This paper departs from previous work on the locational effects of business taxes under uncertainty by considering the attainment of long-run industry equilibrium. A general m input, planar-space production location model is adopted, and each individual firm is assumed to face random industry demand. I provide some interesting results which are contrary to those proposed by previous studies in the single-firm context and the relative impact of various business taxes.

The choice on an optimal business location with uncertainty is influenced by various forms of taxes (lump sum, profit tax, specific tax). This paper employs a unifying approach in the examination of the impacts of those taxes.

This paper reexamines the welfare implications of three pricing regimes (mill, uniform, and discriminatory) for a monopoly. Assuming linear demand and constant marginal costs, I show that with the introduction of endogenous location choice, uniform delivered pricing may provide the highest social welfare when demands in different markets are sufficiently heterogeneous; whereas discriminatory pricing always dominates uniform pricing when demands in different markets are similar.

The authors analyze the theory of production location on a line and examine the impact of technological uncertainty. Topics include the basic model, endpoint optimality, and comparative static analysis.

In this paper we employ a unifying approach to examine the exclusion theorem in a Weberian space under various types of uncertainty: input price or output price uncertainty, transport rate uncertainty, and technology uncertainty. The novelty of our approach is the usage of second-order conditions and comparative static analysis in the derivation of conditions for the validity of the exclusion theorem. Our main results are new and some are generalizations of those obtained in prior studies.

This paper provides a systematic analysis of a risk-averse firm's choice of plant location under transport rate uncertainty in an n-input planar space. The analysis shows that the presence of transport rate uncertainty significantly influences a firm's location choice. I provide comparative static results regarding the spatial consequences of changes in the firm's degree of risk aversion and the level of transport rate uncertainty. In addition I establish some unambiguous locational effects of various forms of business taxes under the usually assumed conditions, namely, that the absolute risk aversion index is decreasing and the relative risk aversion index is increasing.

This paper examines the validity of the location invariance theorem in Weberian space under various types of uncertainty. The main results are: Given that the firm's location is constrained to remain at a specified distance from the output market, the optimal location is invariant to any change in product demand if and only if the production function is homothetic for a firm facing demand price uncertainty, or if the production function is homothetic and both inputs are risk-neutral for a firm facing technological uncertainty. Alternatively, given that the distance from the firm's location to the output market is a variable, location invariance occurs for a firm facing demand price uncertainty if the production function is linear homogeneous. In the presence of input price uncertainty the optimal location always varies with a change in product demand.
