Abstract Intangible cultural heritage is an invaluable treasure for all human beings worldwide. In 2009, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) inscribed the Chinese Cantonese Opera, also known as Yueju in Chinese Pinyin, on the Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The awareness of inheriting Yueju is not uncommon, but advancing methods to involve more young generations in this art form is still necessary. In this study, we focused on Yueju videos on Bilibili, a cultural community and video website popular among the younger generation. Through quantitative and qualitative research, we explored the types of Yueju videos that would have a significant spreading effect. The 1916 Bilibili videos related to Yueju were collected using Python crawler technology. We analyzed each video using seventeen variables. The elaboration likelihood model (ELM) forms the theoretical foundation of this research. We constructed the Yueju transmission model with two persuasive routes based on this model. The research methods mainly comprised regression analysis, multi-factor ANOVA, and analytic hierarchy process (AHP). We invited thirty-one experts to assess the importance hierarchy of those video factors and calculate the weight coefficient using AHP. This study demonstrated the central route concerning the causal relationship between video recognition and spreading effect through regression analysis. Additionally, this research identified the optimal combination of 8 video factors using multi-factor ANOVA in the peripheral route. In this study, we focused on the niche of Yueju video transmission on Bilibili. This research utilized the ELM and hybrid methods to obtain the statistical results. Then, we developed appropriate macro-level and micro-level strategies for transmitting Yueju culture, particularly those aimed at the younger generation.

Using an international education database, PISA 2012, this study compares 15-year-old students' mathematics anxiety and its relationships with educational issues among five Asia Pacific economies (Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, Shanghai, & Singapore), using descriptive, figural, partial correlative, multiple regressive, and factor analysis methods. The main variable, math anxiety, is made up primarily from six of ten items around student worry, tense, nervousness, or helplessness for mathematics difficulties, homework, tough problems, or poor grades. New findings present a perspective of student math anxiety and its impacts across economies with three different models: math anxiety has strong negative correlations with student standardized test scores, interests, and knowledge of mathematics in all economies; it has reverse relations with student abilities, importance, self-attribution in the high and low achievement economies; and it has weak correlations with teaching methods, parents' influences, or friends' performances. This study also discusses a series of questions for further study in mathematics learning.

This study aimed to clarify the core elements affecting the turnover intention of grassroots employees in the digital film industry and to construct a model of the factors affecting the turnover rate in this industry. Adopting the grounded theory approach, which encompasses coding techniques such as open, axial, and selective coding, this research involved the participation of 21 grassroots practitioners to explore the causal and influencing factors of the turnover intention of grassroots practitioners in the digital film industry. The results show that determined by the unstable nature of the job and fierce market competition, interpersonal interaction is a core element that influences whether practitioners continue with or leave their jobs. The over-reliance on interpersonal skills leads to negative psychological outcomes and difficulties in career advancement for practitioners. The interpersonal interaction-focused influences model reflects the correlation between the willingness of individuals to leave and the market environment and organizational culture.

IntroductionClean drinking water is a necessity for maintaining public health and livelihoods. Hard water containing excessive calcium and magnesium threatens urinary health with elevated risks of kidney stones at rural villages with tap water shortages. After entitled poverty alleviation in 2019, residents of Yangxin county of Hubei Province in central China unexpected suffered shortage of tap water and additional cost of water softening. However, the impact of lack of tap water on risks of kidney stones was not yet quantified for residents at rural villages in Yangxin.MethodsWe conducted a cross-sectional analysis by testing 216 water samples from 114 families at four villages and surveying urinary health and living conditions of each householder.ResultsLab tests showed that mean total hardness of well and tap water at each village was above 355 mg/L CaCO3, except tap water from the village with government support for industrial development. Mean softening depth was 309.3 mg/L at the families paying for filters or bottle water, and mean annual cost of water was 1,915 CNY (1 CNY = 0.14 USD) equivalent to 5.8% of mean annual household income. Mean tap water availability was only 34%, and the prevalence of kidney stones among the four villages was 33.9%, 25.0% higher than the rate of kidney stones in Hubei Province. About 60% of the families showed strong willingness to accept annual government compensation of 3,324 CNY for clean water supply, whereas only 2.6% of the families wanted to pay government for water treatment. Using logistic and random forest regression models, we identify factors associated with the prevalence of kidney stones as gender (males have 3.78 times the risks of females), age (2.42 times greater risks if 10 years older), body mass index (higher risks if overweight or obese), total hardness of drinking water (2.59 times for a 100 mg/L increase in total hardness), and tap water availability (2.42 times higher among those without tap water supply compared to those with constant supply).DiscussionOld and obese males are more likely to be diagnosed with kidney stones, but tap water shortages and high total hardness of drinking water increase the risks for all residents. To improve urinary health and meet support needs of residents, tap water supply of soft water is urgently needed at the rural villages in Yangxin.

A functionalized cross-linked polyphosphazenes microsphere (Salen-PZN-Ni@Co-MOF) was fabricated by enveloping Salen-Ni-based polyphosphazenes (Salen-PZN-Ni) with a type of hybrid flame retardant (Co-MOF) to enhance the flame retardant, smoke suppression properties and mechanical properties of epoxy (EP) composites. Thermogravimetric analysis indicated that the incorporation of Salen-PZN-Ni@Co-MOF significantly enhanced the thermal stability of the EP composites. The existence of Salen-PZN-Ni@Co-MOF enhanced both the vertical burning rating and resulted in a higher limiting oxygen index. The addition of 5 wt% Salen-PZN-Ni@Co-MOF conspicuously improved the fire safety of EP, as evidenced by the results of the cone calorimeter. For instance, the peak heat release rate and total heat release rate of the EP composites were decreased by 25.3% and 44.97%, respectively. In addition, the incorporation of Salen-PZN-Ni@Co-MOF significantly inhibited the generation of toxic carbon monoxide and other volatile compounds. Furthermore, a synergistic effect between Salen-PZN-Ni and Co-MOF was observed. The proposed flame retardant mechanism of Salen-PZN-Ni@Co-MOF is attributed to the synergistic catalytic carbonization effect and the formation of thermally stable components. Consequently, enhanced fire safety in EP composites is achieved through the synergistic interaction among various components (nickel and Co-MOF) with polyphosphazene microspheres. Meanwhile, the excellent compatibility between Salen-PZN-Ni@Co-MOF and EP enhances the mechanical properties of EP composites. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Zygotic genome activation (ZGA) is crucial for maternal to zygotic transition at the 2-8-cell stage in order to overcome silencing of genes and enable transcription from the zygotic genome. In humans, ZGA is induced by DUX4, a pioneer factor that drives expression of downstream germline-specific genes and retroelements. Here we show that herpesviruses from all subfamilies, papillomaviruses and Merkel cell polyomavirus actively induce DUX4 expression to promote viral transcription and replication. Analysis of single-cell sequencing data sets from patients shows that viral DUX4 activation is of relevance in vivo. Herpes-simplex virus 1 (HSV-1) immediate early proteins directly induce expression of DUX4 and its target genes, which mimics zygotic genome activation. Upon HSV-1 infection, DUX4 directly binds to the viral genome and promotes viral transcription. DUX4 is functionally required for infection, since genetic depletion by CRISPR/Cas9 as well as degradation of DUX4 by nanobody constructs abrogates HSV-1 replication. Our results show that DNA viruses including herpesviruses mimic an embryonic-like transcriptional program that prevents epigenetic silencing of the viral genome and facilitates herpesviral gene expression.Neugebauer et al. show activation of the usually silenced embryonic factor DUX4 by herpesviruses in vitro and in patients, and demonstrate that depletion of DUX4 by nanobody degraders abrogates viral replication. Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), one subtype of pulmonary hypertension (PH), is a life-threatening condition characterized by pulmonary arterial remodeling, elevated pulmonary vascular resistance, and blood pressure in the pulmonary arteries, leading to right heart failure and increased mortality. The disease is marked by endothelial dysfunction, vasoconstriction, and vascular remodeling. The role of Sodium-Glucose Co-Transporter-2 (SGLT2) inhibitors, a class of medications originally developed for diabetes management, is increasingly being explored in the context of cardiovascular diseases, including PAH, due to their potential to modulate these pathophysiological processes. In this review, we systematically examine the burgeoning evidence from both basic and clinical studies that describe the effects of SGLT2 inhibitors on cardiovascular health, with a special emphasis on PAH. By delving into the complex interactions between these drugs and the potential pathobiology that underpins PH, this study seeks to uncover the mechanistic underpinnings that could justify the use of SGLT2 inhibitors as a novel therapeutic approach for PAH. We collate findings that illustrate how SGLT2 inhibitors may influence the normal function of pulmonary arteries, possibly alleviating the pathological hallmarks of PAH such as inflammation, oxidative stress, aberrant cellular proliferation, and so on. Our review thereby outlines a potential paradigm shift in PAH management, suggesting that these inhibitors could play a crucial role in modulating the disease's progression by targeting the potential dysfunctions that drive it. This comprehensive synthesis of existing research underscores the imperative need for further clinical trials to validate the efficacy of SGLT2 inhibitors in PAH and to integrate them into the therapeutic agents used against this challenging disease. Direct analysis in real time mass spectrometry (DART-MS) has recently emerged as a promising approach for measuring semi-volatile organic compounds (SVOCs) on indoor surface films. However, its broader application in indoor environments is limited by low measurement repeatability and no separation of isomers. Herein we developed a sampling suite of indoor surface films for DART-MS analysis, optimized settings of DART to obtain higher analytical performance, and demonstrated the possibility of separating isomeric compounds using tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS). Two pairs of isomeric phthalate esters, including di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) and di-n-octyl phthalate (DnOP) and diisobutyl phthalate (DiBP) and di-n-butyl phthalate (DnBP), were used as examples for method optimization and validation. Under optimized conditions, the instrument responses for all four compounds exhibited good linearity (r>0.992) and acceptable repeatability (intraday relative standard deviation (RSD) < 11.0 %). The limits of quantification for the four phthalate esters ranged from 0.042 to 0.24 ng cm−2. The uncertainty in the separation of isomeric components using MS/MS was < 11.4 %, which is acceptable for real sample analysis. To further assess the developed method, we analyzed 10 film samples collected side by side in an occupied office. DnOP was not detected. The RSD among samples was 6.1 % for DEHP, 4.6 % for DnBP, and 10.4 % for DiBP, indicating the overall good repeatability of the collection and measurement method developed. With improved performance, the developed method increases the feasibility of the DART-MS technique for monitoring the dynamics of chemical composition of indoor surface films. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The article discusses the urgent need for soft tap water in rural villages in Yangxin, a poverty-alleviated county in central China, to reduce the risks of kidney stones. The study conducted by researchers from Hubei Normal University and the Department of Human Resources and Social Security of Hubei Province examines the prevalence of kidney stones and its relationship with factors such as age, body mass index, total hardness of drinking water, and tap water availability. The research includes logistic regression models and random forest regression models to analyze the data. The findings highlight the importance of providing soft tap water to these rural communities to mitigate the risk of kidney stones. [Extracted from the article]

Practical skill-based education requires exemplary face-to-face operational teaching, and VR can enhance online distance learning, facilitating an alternative form of “face-to-face” teaching, which results in better teacher–student communication and learner self-efficacy. It also constitutes as a useful substitute for in-person teaching, and it also has a positive impact on learning effectiveness. In this study, a mixed-method approach was used, which utilized the following methodologies: a combination of quantitative and qualitative measures, document collection, case and comparative analysis, and VR teaching that utilizes “You, Calligrapher” as a survey tool. Teachers and students of art were selected, who then used an educational VR-based calligraphy game application for teaching activities. We investigated the impact of virtual time, space, and technical availability on learners’ understanding, imagination, and interactivity in VR education, and then we evaluated the positive impact via learner feedback. Research tools that we utilized consist of comprehension, imagination, and how feedback motivation scales with effective learning; we have also used Chinese calligraphy performance tests. The SPSS statistical analysis software was used for related statistical processing, and α was set to 0.05. The results of this study indicated that Chinese calligraphy studies in VR time and space affect students’ understanding and imagination but not their operational abilities. According to our research, a fundamental difference between traditional and modern teaching methods is a shift toward the use of VR (and the internet) in education. Therefore, the focus of this study is on understanding the impact on practical skills during distance learning and investing the impacts in order to form an effective approach to the use of VR in education.

This research analysed the integration of innovation and entrepreneurship education for students, majoring in digital media art design. Using a grounded theory approach, we investigated the experiences of two research groups: five leaders of digital media art design courses in colleges and universities, and five successful entrepreneurs who had majored in digital media art design and had achieved significantly in the industry after graduation. From the two dimensions of ‘innovation’ and ‘entrepreneurship’, as well as the two perspectives of ‘implementer’ and ‘party’, semi-structured interviews were conducted on the core competencies that innovation and entrepreneurship talents should have the methods and experience of innovation and entrepreneurship education, the difficulties and problems in the implementation of innovation and entrepreneurship education, the need for talent among enterprises and the factors affecting entrepreneurship success. By analysing and clustering the data, we were able to comprehensively identify the main problems and aspects that require more attention in terms of cultivating innovative and entrepreneurial talents in the digital media art design major. Based on the grounded theory research method, this paper established a theoretical model, outlining the innovation of the digital media art design major and the entrepreneurship education reform path. The key internal elements of the model include mechanisms for professional talent training, curriculum integration, teacher team construction and resource support. The school-enterprise cooperation mechanism is recognised as the key external element for innovation and entrepreneurship education reform. The results provide direction for future education and teaching reform, as well as professional input for the digital media art design major. The findings encourage those involved in the digital media art design major to cultivate more high-level, pioneering professionals, so as to adapt to the transformation and upgrading of economic and social development in the context of a growing digital economy.
