Abstract

The development of artificial photocatalysts to convert CO2 into renewable fuels and H2O into O2 is a complex and crucial task in the field of photosynthesis research. The current challenge is to enhance photogenerated charge separation, as well as to increase the oxidation capability of materials. Herein, a molecular junction‐type porphyrin‐based crystalline photocatalyst (Ni‐TCPP‐TPyP) was successfully self‐assembled by incorporating a nickel porphyrin complex as a reduction site and pyridyl porphyrin as an oxidation site via hydrogen bonding and π–π stacking interactions. The resulting material has a highly crystalline structure, and the formation of inherent molecular junctions can accelerate photogenerated charge separation and transport. Thus, Ni‐TCPP‐TPyP achieved an excellent CO production rate of 309.3 μmol g−1 h−1 (selectivity, ~100 %) without the use of any sacrificial agents, which is more than ten times greater than that of single‐component photocatalyst (Ni‐TCPP) and greater than that of the most organic photocatalysts. The structure‐function relationship was investigated by femtosecond transient absorption spectroscopy and density functional theory calculations. Our work provides new insight for designing efficient artificial photocatalysts, paving the way for the development of clean and renewable fuels through the conversion of CO2 using solar energy. Abstract

Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) are promising photocatalysts for hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) production from water and oxygen. However, the H2O2 generation from a dual-channel pathway, the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR), and especially the water oxidation reaction (WOR), is still challenging for COF photocatalysts. Here, a series of COFs were constructed by introducing different amounts of hydroxy groups into the COF skeleton to adjust the redox potentials, exciton dissociation and active center. Overall, the β-ketoenamine-linked COF, Tz–THBZ, exhibited a more positive oxidation potential and lower exciton binding energy, leading to efficient photo-excited electron and hole separation ability, and shows an overall photocatalytic H2O2 production yielding a rate of 4688 μmol h−1 g−1 in pure water. Density functional theory calculations further demonstrate the keto-formed benzene and triazine rings as the photooxidation and reduction centers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

46. Submarine Cable-Based Distributed Acoustic Sensing for Tide Monitoring

Abstract

Tide monitoring is essential for coastal management and protection. In this study, a commercial submarine cable was used to measure the vibration signals induced by the tide edge on the coast. An intensity-based distributed acoustic sensing (DAS) interrogator was used to acquire the vibration datasets along the submarine cable up to the first repeater. The preliminary results demonstrated that the DAS system and the existing submarine cable can achieve sea level and shoreline wave-induced vibration strength monitoring in the manner of online and distributed measurement. The vibration strength experienced by the submarine cable in the land section and the sea section induced by the tide edge are different, forming a clear boundary that can be analyzed further for coastal structure monitoring. Experimental results indicate the potential of DAS for effective tide-level monitoring, revealing the standard deviations of 0.221 m and a mean difference of 0.004 m in tide-level variation and the standard deviation of 0.120 m/h and a mean speed difference of 0.003 m/h in the rate of tide-level fluctuations. This study foresees the potential for developing a submarine sensor network using DAS technology, coupled with the existing or customized fiber optic submarine cables to monitor coastal structures and enhance coastal protection capabilities in coastal cities.

Abstract

The diagnosis and management of ureteroarterial fistulae (UAF) can be challenging. We report a patient who presented with multiple episodes of macroscopic hematuria but showed negative findings on several multiphasic computed tomography angiography studies. Eventually, during a percutaneous nephrostomy procedure, an antegrade digitally subtracted pyelogram via the right nephrostomy catheter demonstrated a UAF between the right external iliac artery and the right distal ureter. A stent-graft was deployed along the right common and external iliac arteries with embolization of the right internal iliac artery. A temporary ureteric occlusion technique was also used for urinary diversion, to promote UAF healing and to prevent stent-graft infection. The patient was treated with antibiotics for 4 weeks and is being managed with regular retrograde ureteral stent change every 3 months. This case report emphasizes the importance of early recognition and treatment of UAF.
