ObjectiveSpinal cord stimulation (SCS) is an invasive treatment option for patients suffering from chronic low-back pain (cLBP). It is an effective treatment that has been shown to reduce pain and increase the quality of life in patients. However, the activation of pain processing regions of cLBP patients receiving SCS has not been assessed using objective, quantitative functional imaging techniques. The purpose of the present study was to compare quantitative resting-state (rs)-fMRI and arterial spin labeling (ASL) measures between SCS patients and healthy controls and to correlate clinical measures with quantitative multimodal imaging indices in pain regions.MethodsMulti-delay 3D GRASE pseudo-continuous ASL and rs-fMRI data were acquired from five patients post-SCS with cLBP and five healthy controls. Three ASL measures and four rs-fMRI measures were derived and normalized into MNI space and smoothed. Averaged values for each measure from a pain atlas were extracted and compared between patients and controls. Clinical pain scores assessing intensity, sensitization, and catastrophizing, as well as others assessing global pain effects (sleep quality, disability, anxiety, and depression), were obtained in patients and correlated with pain regions using linear regression analysis.ResultsArterial transit time derived from ASL and several rs-fMRI measures were significantly different in patients in regions involved with sensation (primary somatosensory cortex and ventral posterolateral thalamus [VPL]), pain input (posterior short gyrus of the insula [PS]), cognition (dorsolateral prefrontal cortex [DLPC] and posterior cingulate cortex [PCC]), and fear/stress response (hippocampus and hypothalamus). Unidimensional pain rating and sensitization scores were linearly associated with PS, VPL, DLPC, PCC, and/or amygdala activity in cLBP patients.ConclusionThe present results provide evidence that ASL and rs-fMRI can contrast functional activation in pain regions of cLBP patients receiving SCS and healthy subjects, and they can be associated with clinical pain evaluations as quantitative assessment tools.

This study demonstrated an on-beach public toilet equipped with a sustainable decentralised treatment system in Goa, India. The number of toilet users, freshwater demand, and wastewater (WW) generated per day were documented. The treatment system consisted of a modified French-type vertical flow constructed wetland (MVFCW) and electrochlorinator. The first and second stage MVFCW were an unsaturated and saturated type, respectively. The onsite beach bore well water with a chloride concentration of 8464 ± 415.18 mg/L was electrolysed for 1 h at 40.49 Am−2. Then MVFCW effluent was disinfected by dosing 2412.50 + 278.61 mg/L of chlorine (Cl2) generated at a disinfectant dilution ratio of 1:300 (Cl2:WW). The average daily toilet users, freshwater usage, and WW generated were 96 ± 17.02, 1381.38 ± 380.35 L, and 1407.98 ± 611.8 L, respectively. The integrated treatment system treated 1,400 L/day. The integrated treatment system achieved an average percentage removal of 93.38 ± 0.38% chemical oxygen demand, 79.18 ± 1.55% NO3−, 98.45 ± 0.22% total ammoniacal nitrogen, 93.13 ± 1.19% PO4−3, 87.28 ± 0.2% total suspended solids, 83.09 ± 1.16% total organic carbon, 80.22 ± 0.87% total carbon, 80.05 ± 0.12% inorganic carbon, and 100% coliform. The power consumption cost was 0.17 INR m−3. Combining ability status of the inbred lines is crucial information for hybrid breeding program. Diallel or line × tester mating designs are frequently used to evaluate the combining ability. In the current study a modified diallel model was used, wherein the Griffing’s combining ability effects were further partitioned to understand the effects due to maternal and reciprocal. To do this, eight parental lines of maize were crossed in full diallel method and the generated hybrids along with parents were phenotyped. The field data on the quantitative traits was analyzed using both Griffing’s and the modified model to determine how well the parents’ and the F1 hybrids combined. For each of the traits, a sizable reciprocal and maternal variance was observed. The number of kernel rows per cob variable had a ratio of additive variance to dominance variance greater than one. All other traits including grain yield had a ratio close to zero, suggesting that non-additive gene action was primarily responsible for the genetic control of most of the traits. The narrow sense heritability was low to moderate for majority of the variables, except for number of kernel rows per cob. With the help of the improved model, it was possible to choose superior parents and cross-parent pairings with accuracy. Based on the modified general combining ability effects and maternal effects, the parental line P5 was recognized as a potential female parent and P7 as a good male parent for grain yield and yield-attributing characteristics. The cross combination of P8×P1 had the highest specific combining ability effect on grain yield. P5×P6 cross had the highest reciprocal effect. The correlation analysis implies that the Griffing’s general combining ability effects and specific combining ability effects were found to be less efficient in predicting F1 performance as compared to the modified model.

Canine orthopaedic surgery is always associated with varied degree of pre-operative and post-operative pain, and the assessment of pain in canine is not easy as in humans. This study was carried out in 36 cases of long bone fracture in dogs and which was further managed with locking compression plate and bone substitute. Thirty-six animals were randomly divided into three groups and in each group carprofen and firocoxib used as analgesic in 6 animals to know the analgesic effect of drugs in orthopaedic surgery. Pain assessment in the dogs was carried out using objective assessments, including the Hansen score card and lameness scoring. Result showed no significant differences in the scores between the groups at all measured intervals in behavior and biological variables of Hansen score card. Values of lameness scoring gradually decreased from day 7 to day 90 in all groups of Carprofen and Firocoxib treated group in present study. Values of lameness scoring were found non-significant between groups but differed significantly within groups at different intervals. Based on these, two scoring system there was no significant difference was found between analgesic effect of Carprofen and Firocoxib for pain management in canine orthopaedic cases. However, further study is required for scoring system alongwith it physiological parameters should be correlated and validate to know the effect of the analgesic and its comparison.

Abstract Global trends show that the rapid increase in maize production is associated more with the expansion of maize growing areas than with rapid increases in yield. This is possible through achieving possible higher productivity through maize production practices intensification to meet the sustainable production. Therefore, a field experiment on “Ecological intensification of climate-resilient maize–chickpea cropping system” was conducted during consecutive three years from 2017–2018 to 2019–2020 at Main Agricultural Research Station, Dharwad, Karnataka, India. Results of three years pooled data revealed that ecological intensification (EI) treatment which comprises of all best management practices resulted in higher grain yield (7560 kg/ha) and stover yield compared to farmers’ practice (FP) and all other treatments which were deficit in one or other crop management practices. Similarly, in the succeeding winter season, significantly higher chickpea yield (797 kg/ha) was recorded in EI. Further EI practice recorded significant amount of soil organic carbon, available nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, zinc, and iron after completion of third cycle of experimentation (0.60%, 235.3 kg/ha,21.0 kg/ha,363.2 kg/ha,0.52 ppm and 5.2 ppm respectively). Soil enzymatic activity was also improved in EI practice over the years and improvement in each year was significant. Lower input energy use was in FP (17,855.2 MJ/ha). Whereas total output energy produced was the highest in EI practice (220,590 MJ ha−1) and lower output energy was recorded in EI–integrated nutrient management (INM) (149,255 MJ/ha). Lower energy productivity was noticed in EI-INM. Lower specific energy was recorded in FP and was followed by EI practice. Whereas higher specific energy was noticed is EI–INM. Each individual year and pooled data showed that EI practice recorded higher net return and benefit–cost ratio. The lower net returns were obtained in EI-integrated weed management (Rs. 51354.7/ha), EI-recommended irrigation management (Rs. 56,015.3/ha), integrated pest management (Rs. 59,569.7/ha) and farmers’ practice (Rs. 67,357.7/ha) which were on par with others.

Okra is the most labour-intensive monsoon vegetable crop, and it faces significant threats from weather patterns. A total of sixteen F1 crossings were employed in this study, following a mating strategy of L × T, where four lines and four testers were used. The objective was to assess the combining ability and heterosis for nine variables related to pod yield quality. Additionally, the study aimed to identify the most promising combinations for future breeding endeavors. The results revealed statistically significant variations across all the variables examined, except for pod diameter in the lines. Significant values were observed for various traits in the case of tests, including plant height, days to first flowering, days to first fruit set, days to first fruit picking, number of pods per plant, pod length, average weight of pods, and pod yield per plant. The parental lines, namely EC 169470, IC 128024, Kashi Pragati, and Arka Anamika, were determined to be effective general combiners in terms of single plant yield. Therefore, it is possible to exploit these parents through the practice of pedigree breeding to achieve improved recombinants through selective breeding in subsequent generations. The hybrids IC 128024 × Kahi Lalima, IC 128024 Kashi Kranti, and IC 128028 × Kashi Pragati were determined to be the most favorable combiners based on the outcomes of standard heterosis, GCA and SCA effects. These hybrids exhibit promising potential for utilization in future breeding endeavors.

Purpose: To determine whether self-reported race/ethnicity is associated with intraocular pressure (IOP) and glaucoma and to explore whether any associations are due to social, behavioral, genetic, or health differences. Design: Cross-sectional analysis of population-based data. Methods: We used the Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging Comprehensive Cohort, which consists of 30,097 adults aged 45–85 years. Race/ethnicity was self-reported. Corneal-compensated intraocular pressure (IOP) was measured in mmHg using the Reichert Ocular Response Analyzer. Participants were asked to report if they have ever had a diagnosis of glaucoma and whether they used eye care in the past year. A glaucoma polygenic risk score (PRS) was calculated. Logistic and linear regression models were used. Results: Black individuals had higher mean IOP levels (beta coefficient (β) = 1.46; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.62, 2.30) while Chinese, Japanese and Korean (β = −1.00; 95% CI, −1.63, −0.38) and Southeast Asian and Filipino individuals (β = −1.56; 95% CI, −2.68, −0.43) had lower mean IOP levels as compared to White individuals after adjustment for sociodemographic, behavioral, genetic, and health-related variables. Black people were more likely to report glaucoma as compared to White people after adjustment (odds ratio [OR] = 2.43; 95% CI, 1.27, 4.64). Conclusion: Racial and ethnic differences in IOP and glaucoma were identified. Adjusting for sociodemographic, behavioral, genetic, and health-related variables did not fully explain these differences. Longitudinal research is needed to further explore the reasons for these differences and to understand their relevance to disease pathogenesis and progression.

Metal carbonyls are of great importance in chemical vapor deposition (CVD), composite materials fabrication, and other near-net shape technologies. Carbonyl CVD is used for deposition of high-purity metallic and alloy coatings for which vapor pressure data is essential. In this study, we report vapor pressures of solid Ir4(CO)12 and Re2(CO)10 carbonyls measured by using the Knudsen Cell methodology using a torsion effusion thermogravimetric system. The vapor pressure of the Ir4(CO)12 exhibited incongruent vaporization, as the molecular weight (MW) of the effusing species was determined as 128 g/mol as compared to the theoretical MW of 1105 g/mol. It is proposed that the Ir4(CO)12 (s) partially decomposed (∼66%) to Ir4(CO)12(g), Ir(s), and CO(g). The Re2(CO)10 on the other hand, showed congruent behavior with Re2(CO)10(s) vaporizing to Re2(CO)10(g) in the measured temperature range. The raw data for vapor pressures was measured using two sets of Knudsen cells with different orifice sizes, and the equilibrium vapor pressures were calculated using Whitman-Motzfeldt methodology. The equilibrium vapor pressures of these carbonyls, partial pressures of gaseous species in case of decomposition, average molecular weights of the effusing gasses were determined. The vapor pressures and Gibbs energies of vaporization reactions of the two above mentioned carbonyls, as well as comparison of vaporization thermodynamics these two carbonyls with other carbonyls from Group VIB to VIIIB are presented in this paper.

In the present research, the open-source WRF-SFIRE model has been used to carry out surface forest fire spread forecasting in the North Sikkim region of the Indian Himalayas. Global forecast system (GFS)-based hourly forecasted weather model data obtained through the National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) at 0.25 degree resolution were used to provide the initial conditions for running WRF-SFIRE. A landuse–landcover map at 1:10,000 scale was used to define fuel parameters for different vegetation types. The fuel parameters, i.e., fuel depth and fuel load, were collected from 23 sample plots (0.1 ha each) laid down in the study area. Samples of different categories of forest fuels were measured for their wet and dry weights to obtain the fuel load. The vegetation specific surface area-to-volume ratio was referenced from the literature. The atmospheric data were downscaled using nested domains in the WRF model to capture fire–atmosphere interactions at a finer resolution (40 m). VIIRS satellite sensor-based fire alert (375 m spatial resolution) was used as ignition initiation point for the fire spread forecasting, whereas the forecasted hourly weather data (time synchronized with the fire alert) were used for dynamic forest-fire spread forecasting. The forecasted burnt area (1.72 km2) was validated against the satellite-based burnt area (1.07 km2) obtained through Sentinel 2 satellite data. The shapes of the original and forecasted burnt areas matched well. Based on the various simulation studies conducted, an operational fire spread forecasting system, i.e., Sikkim Wildfire Forecasting and Monitoring System (SWFMS), has been developed to facilitate firefighting agencies to issue early warnings and carry out strategic firefighting.

In this work, morphology-tuned tungsten oxide (m-tuned WO3) thin films are deposited on a glass substrate by a simple and cost-effective chemical bath deposition (CBD) method. The deposition pH is varied to tune the physicochemical properties of m-tuned WO3 thin films. The m-tuned WO3 thin films show an orthorhombic crystal structure with a preferred orientation along the (020) plane. The morphological study demonstrated the conversion of ‘rice hull’ to ‘interlocked nanosheets’ to ‘reticulated nanosheets composed of nanorods’ upon changing pH, highlighting the significant role of pH in m-tuned WO3 thin film synthesis. The m-tuned WO3 thin films show good absorption in the visible-light region (390–780 nm) of the solar spectrum. The m-tuned WO3 thin films are used for the visible light active photocatalytic degradation of organic molecules such as methylene blue (MB), rhodamine B (Rh B), and tetracycline hydrochloride (TC). The optimized m-tuned WO3 thin film shows maximum photocatalytic performance of 95, 94, and 86 % in 180 min for MB, Rh B, and TC, respectively. The present study demonstrates the usefulness of the CBD method for the deposition of m-tuned WO3 and improved photocatalytic performance.

The success of developing prominent hybrids directly depends on the selection of parents with good combining ability which can transfer desirable genes with additive effects to their progeny. The data of 42 hybrids generated using 7 × 7 full diallel design; their seven parents along with three check hybrids were subjected to combining ability analysis from the experiment that was carried out during rainy season 2019. The analysis of variance showed significant general combining ability, and specific combining ability mean sum of squares for all the thirteen characters studied. It is obvious from the results that three lines (SC Sel 2, SC Sel 1 and SC Sel 3) showed high overall general combining ability status, suggesting these lines as good general combiners across traits. Eighteen hybrids had high overall specific combining ability status, while nearly 52% (22 hybrids), 57% (24 hybrids) and 47% (20 hybrids) of crosses showed high overall mid-parent, better-parent and standard heterosis. The unique superiority of crosses involving high overall general combiner parent in the crosses highlighted the importance of using such parents to realize high heterotic crosses. A non-linear relationship between high overall specific combining ability status and heterotic status of hybrids was noticed. The probability of obtaining a cross with high standard heterosis was more with employing parents with high general combining ability status.

BackgroundBelantamab mafodotin (belamaf) has demonstrated clinically meaningful antimyeloma activity in patients with heavily pretreated multiple myeloma. However, it is highly active against dividing cells, contributing to off-target adverse events, particularly ocular toxicity. Changes in best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) and corneal examination findings are routinely monitored to determine Keratopathy Visual Acuity (KVA) grade to inform belamaf dose modification.ObjectiveWe aimed to develop a semiautomated mobile app to facilitate the grading of ocular events in clinical trials involving belamaf.MethodsThe paper process was semiautomated by creating a library of finite-state automaton (FSA) models to represent all permutations of KVA grade changes from baseline BCVA readings. The transition states in the FSA models operated independently of eye measurement units (e.g., Snellen, logMAR, decimal) and provided a uniform approach to determining KVA grade changes. Together with the FSA, the complex decision tree for determining the grade change based on corneal examination findings was converted into logical statements for accurate and efficient overall KVA grade computation. First, a web-based user interface, conforming to clinical practice settings, was developed to simplify the input of key KVA grading criteria. Subsequently, a mobile app was developed that included additional guided steps to assist in clinical decision-making.ResultsThe app underwent a robust Good Clinical Practice validation process. Outcomes were reviewed by key stakeholders, our belamaf medical lead, and the systems integration team. The time to compute a patient's overall KVA grade using the Belamaf Eye Exam (BEE) app was reduced from a 20- to 30-min process to

BACKGROUND: India is a developing country where malnutrition is the most common problems; we are dealing with emerging problems of consumption of convenience food and street food. These foods are easily available, awesome taste, have some packages and advertisements which attracts the new generations and skipping meals starts. Adolescent girls are getting the problems of overweight, underweight, thyroid disorders, anemia, and other hematological disorders. Ultimate aim of this research is to find out an association about between dietary habits and menstrual disorders in adolescent girls. METHODOLOGY: An observational study was carried out in adolescent girls of MGM School, Navi Mumbai, India, from October 2021 to December 2021, to find out the relation between dietary pattern verses menstrual disorders among adolescent girls. Numerical pain scale, modified women's health questionnaire, and daily diary were used to collect data from 100 adolescent girls. Nonprobability purposive sampling technique was used to select adolescent girls. STATISTICAL ANALYSIS: Statistical analysis was done using SPSS 24.0 software. RESULTS: The average age of menarche was 12.9 ± 2.7 years. The study showed that girls experienced moderate menstrual pain (54%), severe menstrual pain (21%), and premenstrual symptoms in 36% of adolescence girls. More than 42% of participants were eating street food and many of the girls had habits of skipping the meals in the afternoon. It was found that there was a significant association between dietary habits and menstrual problems (P ≤ 0.0001). The correlation coefficient between dietary habits and menstrual disorders was identified as r = 0.7 with P < 0.05. CONCLUSION: The menstrual disorders were arising problems among girls of schools of Navi Mumbai. Daily intake of appropriate amount of protein, CHO, fat, vitamins, and minerals can help reduce menstrual problems facing by adolescent girls.

Abstract Background The enteral route is commonly utilised to support the nutritional requirements of critically ill patients. However, there is paucity of data guiding clinicians regarding the appropriate method of delivering the prescribed dose. Continuous enteral feeding is commonly used; however, a bolus or intermittent method of administration may provide several advantages such as minimising interruptions. The purpose of this meta-analysis is to compare a continuous versus an intermittent or bolus enteral nutrition administration method. Methods A systematic review and meta-analysis were performed with studies identified from the PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane Library and Web of Science databases. Studies were included if they compared a continuous with either an intermittent or bolus administration method of enteral nutrition in adult patients admitted to the intensive care unit. Study quality was assessed using the PEDro and Newcastle–Ottawa scoring systems. Review Manager was used for performing the random-effects meta-analysis on the outcomes of mortality, constipation, diarrhoea, increased gastric residuals, pneumonia, and bacterial colonisation. Results A total of 5546 articles were identified, and 133 were included for full text review. Fourteen were included in the final analysis. There was an increased risk of constipation with patients receiving continuous enteral nutrition (relative risk 2.24, 95% confidence interval 1.01–4.97, p = 0.05). No difference was identified in other outcome measures. No appreciable bias was identified. Conclusion The current meta-analysis has not identified any clinically relevant difference in most outcome measures relevant to the care of critically ill patients. However, there is a paucity of high-quality randomised controlled clinical trials to guide this decision. Therefore, clinicians may consider either dosing regimen in the context of the patient’s care requirements.

Purpose: Identifying relationships between clinical features and quantitative characteristics of the amygdala-hippocampal and thalamic subregions in mesial temporal lobe epilepsy (mTLE) may offer insights into pathophysiology and the basis for imaging prognostic markers of treatment outcome. Our aim was to ascertain different patterns of atrophy or hypertrophy in mesial temporal sclerosis (MTS) patients and their associations with post-surgical seizure outcomes. To assess this aim, this study is designed in 2 folds: (1) hemispheric changes within MTS group and (2) association with postsurgical seizure outcomes. Methods and materials: 27 mTLE subjects with mesial temporal sclerosis (MTS) were scanned for conventional 3D T1w MPRAGE images and T2w scans. With respect to 12 months post-surgical seizure outcomes, 15 subjects reported being seizure free (SF) and 12 reported continued seizures. Quantitative automated segmentation and cortical parcellation were performed using Freesurfer. Automatic labeling and volume estimation of hippocampal subfields, amygdala, and thalamic subnuclei were also performed. The volume ratio (VR) for each label was computed and compared between (1) between contralateral and ipsilateral MTS using Wilcoxon rank-sum test and (2) SF and not seizure free (NSF) groups using linear regression analysis. False Discovery rate (FDR) with significant level of 0.05 were used in both analyses to correct for multiple comparisons. Results: Amygdala: The medial nucleus of the amygdala was the most significantly reduced in patients with continued seizures when compared to patients who remained seizure free. Hippocampus: Comparison of ipsilateral and contralateral volumes with seizure outcomes showed volume loss was most evident in the mesial hippocampal regions such as CA4 and hippocampal fissure. Volume loss was also most explicit in the presubiculum body in patients with continued seizures at the time of their follow-up. Ipsilateral MTS compared to contralateral MTS analysis showed the heads of the ipsilateral subiculum, presubiculum, parasubiculum, dentate gyrus, CA4, and CA3 were more significantly affected than their respective bodies. Volume loss was most noted in mesial hippocampal regions. Thalamus: VPL and PuL were the most significantly reduced thalamic nuclei in NSF patients. In all statistically significant areas, volume reduction was observed in the NSF group. No significant volume reductions were noted in the thalamus and amygdala when comparing ipsilateral to contralateral sides in mTLE subjects. Conclusions: Varying degrees of volume loss were demonstrated in the hippocampus, thalamus, and amygdala subregions of MTS, especially between patients who remained seizure-free and those who did not. The results obtained can be used to further understand mTLE pathophysiology. Clinical relevance/application: In the future, we hope these results can be used to deepen the understanding of mTLE pathophysiology, leading to improved patient outcomes and treatments.

Diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (dwMRI) has increasingly demonstrated greater utility in analyzing neuronal microstructure. In patients with chronic low back pain (cLBP), using dwMRI to observe neuronal microstructure can lead to non-invasive biomarkers which could provide clinicians with an objective quantitative prognostic tool. In this case report, we investigated dwMRI for the development of non-invasive biomarkers by conducting a region-based analysis of a 55-year-old male patient with failed back surgery syndrome (FBSS) treated with spinal cord stimulation (SCS). We hypothesized that dwMRI could safely generate quantitative data reflecting cerebral microstructural alterations driven by neuromodulation. Neuroimaging was performed at 6- and 12- months post-SCS implantation. The quantitative maps generated included diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) parameters; fractional anisotropy (FA), axial diffusivity (AD), radial diffusivity (RD), and mean diffusivity (MD) computed from whole brain tractography. To examine specific areas of the brain, 44 regions of interest (ROIs), collectively representing the pain NeuroMatrix, were extracted and registered to the patient's diffusion space. Average diffusion indices were calculated from the ROIs at both 6- and 12- months. Regions with >10% relative change in at least 3 of the 4 maps were reported. Using this selection criterion, 8 ROIs demonstrated over 10% relative changes. These ROIs were mainly located in the insular gyri. In addition to the quantitative data, a series of questionnaires were administered during the 6- and 12-month visits to assess pain intensity, functional disability, and quality of life. Overall improvements were observed in these components, with the Pain Catastrophizing Scale (PCS) displaying the greatest change. Lastly, we demonstrated the safety of dwMRI for a patient with SCS. In summary, the results from the case report prompt further investigation in applying dwMRI in a larger cohort to better correlate the influence of SCS with brain microstructural alterations, supporting the utility of dwMRI to generate non-invasive biomarkers for prognostication.

IntroductionEpilepsy is defined as non-lesional (NLE) when a lesion cannot be localized via standard neuroimaging. NLE is known to have a poor response to surgery. Stereotactic electroencephalography (sEEG) can detect functional connectivity (FC) between zones of seizure onset (OZ) and early (ESZ) and late (LSZ) spread. We examined whether resting-state fMRI (rsfMRI) can detect FC alterations in NLE to see whether noninvasive imaging techniques can localize areas of seizure propagation to potentially target for intervention.MethodsThis is a retrospective study of 8 patients with refractory NLE who underwent sEEG electrode implantation and 10 controls. The OZ, ESZ, and LSZ were identified by generating regions around sEEG contacts that recorded seizure activity. Amplitude synchronization analysis was used to detect the correlation of the OZ to the ESZ. This was also done using the OZ and ESZ of each NLE patient for each control. Patients with NLE were compared to controls individually using Wilcoxon tests and as a group using Mann-Whitney tests. Amplitude of low-frequency fluctuations (ALFF), fractional ALFF (fALFF), regional homogeneity (ReHo), degree of centrality (DoC), and voxel-mirrored homotopic connectivity (VMHC) were calculated as the difference between NLE and controls and compared between the OZ and ESZ and to zero. A general linear model was used with age as a covariate with Bonferroni correction for multiple comparisons.ResultsFive out of 8 patients with NLE showed decreased correlations from the OZ to the ESZ. Group analysis showed patients with NLE had lower connectivity with the ESZ. Patients with NLE showed higher fALFF and ReHo in the OZ but not the ESZ, and higher DoC in the OZ and ESZ. Our results indicate that patients with NLE show high levels of activity but dysfunctional connections in seizure-related areas.DiscussionrsfMRI analysis showed decreased connectivity directly between seizure-related areas, while FC metric analysis revealed increases in local and global connectivity in seizure-related areas. FC analysis of rsfMRI can detect functional disruption that may expose the pathophysiology underlying NLE.
