Numerous studies have addressed the influence of the surrounding frame members on the in‐plane properties of steel shear walls with stiffeners. However, the effect of the out‐of‐plane stiffness on the buckling strength of stiffening plates has not been elucidated. Herein, the influence of surrounding frame members on the buckling behavior of steel shear walls reinforced by cross stiffeners was investigated. A calculation formula for the elastic buckling strength of the stiffened plate was proposed by eigenvalue analysis. In addition, the relationship between the buckling strength and out‐of‐plane stiffness of the surrounding frame members was revealed and a calculation formula for the buckling strength considering the out‐of‐plane stiffness was put forward. Finally, through experimental tests and large deformation analysis, the effect of vertical frame members on the elasto‐plastic property of the stiffened plate was shown. The results obtained are as follows. This study proposes an elastic buckling strength calculation formula for a stiffened plate by correcting the elastic buckling strength calculation formula of an orthotropic plate using the ratio between the torsional rigidity of an actual stiffened plate and that of the plate regarded as anisotropic. The rate of decrease in elastic buckling strength of the stiffened plate due to the out‐of‐plane stiffness of the surrounding frame member can be evaluated by the flexural rigidity ratio between the surrounding member and the stiffened plate. The rate of decrease in elastic buckling strength of stiffened plates due to the out‐of‐plane stiffness of the left and right surrounding vertical frame members with different bending stiffnesses and intermediate vertical frame members can be evaluated by the buckling stress ratio determined from the out‐of‐plane stiffness of the surrounding vertical frame members. It is possible to obtain a stable behavior even if the out‐of‐plane stiffness of the surrounding member is relatively small, if the elastic buckling strength is higher than the shear yield strength of the stiffened plate. It was confirmed that the effect of the end constraint condition on the elasto‐plastic behavior of a stiffened plate was negligible. The results obtained in this study can facilitate the construction of novel earthquake‐resistant steel shear walls.

This report shows the advantage of using high-strength steels and hysteretic dampers for low- and medium-rise buildings. In this paper, the structural members are decided by the long term stress. Seismic loads are burdened with hysteretic dampers. There are two methods to increase the yield stress of columns; one is using high-strength steels, and the other is adopting larger members. Through the investigation of time history response analysis, a method using high-strength steels has high performance not only decreasing damage of frame but also increasing the equivalent damping factor than another method.

So far, we have presented amethod for text-promptedmultistep speaker verification using GEBI (Gibbs-distribution based extended Bayesian inference) for reducing single-step verification error, where we use thresholds for acceptance and rejection but the tuning is not so easy and affects the performance of verification. To solve the problem of thresholds, this paper presents a method of probabilistic prediction in multiclass classification for solving verification problem.We also present loss functions for evaluating the performance of probabilistic prediction. By simulation of the circular dichroic spectra (Greenfield and Fasman (1969] and using reference spectra of Chen et al. (1974), native ovalbumin was estimated to contain 33% alpha-helix, 5% beta-structure, and 62% random coil. Ovalbumin resisted conformational changes in solutions of urea and of SDS. However, guanidine induced transition, starting at about 2 M and completing at about 4.5 M. At concentrations exceeding 4.5 M guanidine, ovalbumin existed as 6-7% alpha-helical, 12-13% beta-structure, and 80-81% random coil. Ovalbumin after denaturation in 6 M guanidine or in 8 M urea (incubated at 4 degrees C for 24 hr) did not recover the native conformation but acquired a new conformation in each case, with a somewhat destabilized helical structure.

Three fragments of bovine serum albumin (BSA) by limited peptic hydrolysis were isolated and their positions in the parent molecule were identified on the basis of the analyses of plural amino acid residues at N- and C-terminals of each fragment. The sequences of the three fragments correspond to residue Nos. 1–306, 193–368, and 383–511. The molecular weights of the three fragments were determined to be 34,900, 20,100, and 14,700 from their sequences. As is well known, BSA consists of three domains, each comprising three subdomains (disulfide double loops) and containing about 190 amino acid residues with a molecular weight of approximately 22,000. The present three fragments approximately corresponded to regions representing 1.5, 1, and 0.5 domains of BSA based on their positions in the parent molecule and their molecular weights. The relative proportions of a-helix, β-structure, and disordered structure in conformations of the fragments were determined by the curve-fitting method of circular dichroism (CD) spectra. The a-helical portions occupied 50–60% in these fragments. Most of the helices in the intact BSA molecule appeared to remain after digestion into the fragments. The helical proportions of the fragments decreased stepwise in SDS solutions in the same way as intact BSA. This suggests that the decrease in helical content of BSA might represent the sum of the reductions in helical content of the three domains by SDS binding. The helices in the fragments resisted structural changes by dilute urea and guanidine in a manner similar to that of BSA.
