The reversible capacity is not dependent on the amount of Si included in the silicide; the capacity was found to be independent on the composition of silicide even in the case of a given transition metal making up the silicide.

Background The diagnosis of colitis-associated cancer or dysplasia is important in the treatment of ulcerative colitis. Immunohistochemistry of p53 along with hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) staining is conventionally used to accurately diagnose the pathological conditions. However, evaluation of p53 immunohistochemistry in all biopsied specimens is expensive and time-consuming for pathologists. In this study, we aimed to develop an artificial intelligence program using a deep learning algorithm to investigate and predict p53 immunohistochemical staining from H&E-stained slides. Methods We cropped 25 849 patches from whole-slide images of H&E-stained slides with the corresponding p53-stained slides. These slides were prepared from samples of 12 patients with colitis-associated neoplasia who underwent total colectomy. We annotated all glands in the whole-slide images of the H&E-stained slides and grouped them into 3 classes: p53 positive, p53 negative, and p53 null. We used 80% of the patches for training a convolutional neural network (CNN), 10% for validation, and 10% for final testing. Results The trained CNN glands were classified into 2 or 3 classes according to p53 positivity, with a mean average precision of 0.731 to 0.754. The accuracy, sensitivity (recall), specificity, positive predictive value (precision), and F-measure of the prediction of p53 immunohistochemical staining of the glands detected by the trained CNN were 0.86 to 0.91, 0.73 to 0.83, 0.91 to 0.92, 0.82 to 0.89, and 0.77 to 0.86, respectively. Conclusions Our trained CNN can be used as a reasonable alternative to conventional p53 immunohistochemical staining in the pathological diagnosis of colitis-associated neoplasia, which is accurate, saves time, and is cost-effective.

Fibril-sized structures, which exhibit a density fluctuation of several tens to hundreds of nanometers, are important because they influence many properties of fibers and films, particularly the strength and thermal shrinkage of synthetic fibers. We analyzed the formation of fibril-sized structures after necking using ultra-small-angle X-ray scattering (USAXS), which enables observation of the void and craze formations. Continuous laser-heated drawing and undulator synchrotron radiation were adopted to measure the structural development of poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) and poly(phenylene sulfide) (PPS) fibers. Both fibers showed a clear increase in the meridional streak intensity just after necking and an increase in the equatorial streak after necking. These increases were distinctive for PPS. Moreover, a layer-lined streak appeared after necking only for PET. The intensity of the meridional streak increased with an increase in the draw ratio, whereas the intensity of the layer-lined scattering decreased with an increase in the draw ratio., Article, POLYMER JOURNAL.51(2):211-219(2018)

Developing lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) with a high energy density, long cycle, and high safety is essential for establishing a sustainable society because LIBs are used as electric vehicle batteries and stationary batteries for utilizing renewables. Silicon (Si) has great potential as an anode active material for next-generation LIBs due to its high theoretical capacity (3580 mA h g- 1 for Li15Si4). However, Si electrodes show poor cycle stability, which is mainly caused by a large volume change in Si during the lithiation (charge) and delithiation (discharge) reactions. Additionally, Si has other disadvantages, such as high electrical resistivity and a low Li+ diffusion coefficient. We have previously investigated the lithiation and delithiation properties of pure binary silicide (M ySiz, M : transition metal) electrodes. Some electrodes maintained a high reversible capacity in an ionic-liquid electrolyte, whereas they showed a poor cycling performance in a conventional organic-liquid electrolyte. In contrast, the effect of difference in crystal phase of silicides composed of the same elements on the lithiation and delithiation properties has not yet been clarified. Herein, we synthesized various pure nickel silicide (Ni-Si) powders. and investigated their lithiation and delithiation properties in an ionic-liquid electrolyte. Ni-Si powders (NiSi2, NiSi, Ni2Si, and Ni3Si) were synthesized by a mechanical alloying (MA) method. The obtained powders were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Raman spectroscopy. XRD patterns were identified compared with patterns in the Inorganic Crystal Structure Database (ICSD). Each silicide electrode was prepared by a gas deposition (GD) method, which does not require a binder or conductive agent. We assembled 2032-type coin cells, which consisted of the silicide electrode as the working electrode, Li metal foil as the counter electrode and a glass fiber filter as the separator. 1 mol dm- 3 (M) lithium bis(fluorosulfonyl)amide (LiFSA) in N-methyl-N-propylpyrrolidinium bis(fluorosulfonyl)amide (Py13-FSA) was used as an ionic-liquid electrolyte. A galvanostatic charge-discharge test was carried out in the potential range between 0.005 and 2.000 V vs. Li+/Li at 303 K. The current density was set at 50 mA g- 1. To discuss the charge density of each element in Li x Ni y Si z , a first-principle calculation based on density functional theory (DFT) was performed using the projector augmented wave (PAW) method as implemented in the plane wave code of the Vienna Ab initio Simulation Package (VASP). A generalized gradient approximation (GGA) was used as the term exchange correlation with a kinetic cutoff of 350 eV. Brillouin zone sampling was performed with an 8×8×8 k point mesh within a Gamma point centered mesh scheme. We synthesized various Ni-Si powders by a MA method. Comparing the XRD pattern of the prepared samples and the corresponding ICSD pattern, all peaks were assigned to pure Ni-Si phase. Additionally, there were no peaks arising from the raw materials (Ni and Si). In Raman spectra, peaks assigned to crystalline Si (c-Si) and amorphous Si (a-Si) appear at approximately 520 and 490 cm- 1, respectively. Each silicide also gives no Raman peaks of c-Si and/or a-Si which indicates that neither c-Si nor a-Si is included in the synthesized powders. Therefore, the MA treatment successfully produced a pure Ni-Si phase. Fig.1 shows the dependence of the gravimetric discharge capacity of various nickel silicide electrodes on the cycle number in 1 M LiFSA/Py13-FSA.The NiSi2 electrode exhibited the highest initial capacity of approximately 800 mA h g- 1, and the Ni3Si electrode showed the second highest capacity. The results demonstrated that there was no correlation between initial capacity and silicon content in Ni-Si. To reveal the difference in the initial capacity, we determined the charge density of each element in Li x Ni y Si z based on computational chemistry. Li and Si have positive charges in all silicides, whereas Ni has a negative charge in Li x Ni y Si z . These results indicate that Li has a high affinity with Ni in Li x Ni y Si z . In addition, it is suggested that the higher the affinity of Ni with Li is, the higher the initial capacity is. Furthermore, we investigated the distance between Li and close atoms (Ni or Si) in Li x Ni y Si z . The initial capacity increased with an increase in the distance. Therefore, both the affinity of Ni with Li and the distance between Li and neighboring atom should influence on the initial capacity. Figure 1

The MEA (More Electric Aircraft)/AEA (All Electric Aircraft) and MEE (More Electric Engine) is representative of system evolution, contributing to improved energy management of the entire aircraft system and reducing fuel consumption of aircraft. Looking at future aviation, it is necessary to have further evolution beyond the MEA/AEA and MEE to achieve further improvement of aircraft efficiency and “greener aviation”. The electrified propulsion system, which uses electrical energy as propulsive power, would be a possible option, and various kinds of configurations have been studied and developed. Small one- or two-seater airplanes have already successfully flown with the all-electrified propulsion; however, there are a lot of perspectives for the system configuration for larger-sized commercial aircraft. It is considered that a hybrid propulsion system, in which the E3M (Engine Embedded Electric Machine) provides assisting power to the engine shafts, would be one of the probable configurations. The authors are currently developing the E3M as an LP (Low Pressure) spool-driven generator, and the approach is considered to be practical because E3M technology can be commonly applicable for both large electrical power generation and hybrid propulsion. In this paper, several advanced propulsion system configurations are compared, and perspectives of the hybrid propulsion for future commercial aircraft are described. Also technical challenges for the MEE/E3M, continuing toward future hybrid propulsion, are outlined and further R&D steps are considered.

We have succeeded in the development of a new front surface film, it has the function of improving the viewing-angle properties (especially, improvement of gray scale inversion in downside direction) of TN-mode TFT-LCDs, in addition to the conventional function of the protection of polarizer and the glare prevention under bright room surrounding). The excellent viewing-angle properties have been realized in combing this new front surface film with the optical compensation film for TN-mode (Wide-View Film, for short WV Film). According to the proposal of this method, it has been expected to apply TN-mode to large-Size LCD monitors and LCD TVs hereafter.

Adiabatic quantum-flux-parametron (AQFP) is an ultra-low-power superconductor logic. In this study, we proposed and designed three-dimensional (3D) AQFP to achieve high circuit density and efficient interconnections. In 3D-AQFP, different AQFP logic circuits can be designed both over and under a ground plane (GP). The 3D-AQFP circuits are fabricated using the AIST 10 kA cm?2 Nb double gate process, in which two active layers are separated by a single GP. Followed by basic logic cell tests, we show an experimental demonstration of a 3D-XOR gate, the building block cells of which are vertically stacked to save circuit area and wiring length. The measurement results showed reasonable excitation current margins of more than ?16% for the 3D-XOR gate.

Adiabatic quantum-flux-parametron (AQFP) logic is an energy-efficient superconductor logic with zero static power consumption and very small switching energy. In this paper, we report a new AQFP cell library designed using the AIST 10 kA cm−2 Nb high-speed standard process (HSTP), which is a high-critical-current–density version of the AIST 2.5 kA cm−2 Nb standard process (STP2). Since the intrinsic damping of the Josephson junction (JJ) of HSTP is relatively strong, shunt resistors for JJs were removed and the energy efficiency improved significantly. Also, excitation transformers in the new cells were redesigned so that the cells can operate in a four-phase excitation mode. We described the detail of HSTP and the AQFP cell library designed using HSTP, and showed experimental results of cell test circuits.

導電性高分子膜の赤外分光法による解析は多くの場合透過法により行われているが,偏光反射法では金属基板上の薄膜の高感度検出が可能であることから,本方法をポリピロール電解重合膜に適用し,その電極表面上の構造を検討した.ポリピロールの合成で電極をニトリルブタジエンゴムで被覆することにより垂直に配向した膜が形成され,導電特性が向上すると報告されている.この膜の配向性を,透過法と偏光反射法によるスペクトルの比較,及び電極上で直接重合したアモルファス膜を試料とした偏光反射スペクトルの電解時間依存性とにより検討した.その結果,実験した範囲内では,被覆電極上で重合された膜の配向性についてはランダム構造に近いものと推定された.又,スペクトルの電解時間依存性から,重合の初期段階でポリピロール膜が酸化され,ヒドロキシル基やカルボニル基が生成されていることが示された.

FT-Raman spectra of several platinum complexes were measured.
