A new form of the vector meson theory is described, in which six-rowed matrices having properties very similar to those of Dirac's matrices are introduced. Making use of this formalism, we have extended Casimir's method of the spin summation (technique of spur) to calculations for radiative processes of the meson. As an application of this method, a derivation of Laporte's scattering formula is given. The relation to Kemmer's form of the meson theory is also discussed.

A scheme was proposed for the whole evolutionary process of celestial objects and the observational characteristics between two populations, Populations I and II, are discussed in some detail. It is suggested that these characteristics can be accounted for by the present scheme.

It is shown that the famous beta ray spectrum of RaE can be explained in the Fermi theory in terms of the scalar plus tensor interaction for the selection rule, ΔJ=±1, yes. In this attempt, the simultaneous contribution to the electron wave function of the finite de Broglie wave length effect and the finite nuclear radius effect is reasonably taken into account for the first time. As far as the present calculation is concerned, the relative sign of the weight of the scalar and tensor interaction can not be determined.

Adopting the new method of the theory of nuclear forces proposed by one of us (M.T) and others, the deuteron ground state and low energy neutron-proton scattering have been investigated. The symmetrical pseudoscalar π-meson potentials including second- and fourth-order terms are assumed in the outside region, while in the inside region where the static meson potential becomes meaningless, phenomenological potentials represented by square well are adopted. It is shown that we can then account for the experimental data, if we take the value 0.09 ∼ 0.10 as the magnitude of the coupling constant between π-meson and nucleon. Saturation does not result from these potentials in the static approximation.

Cross sections for the production of negative protons in various processes was calculated assuming the pseudoscalar meson theory. Numerical results are summarized in Table II, §5. In the lack of satisfactory theory for the high energy processes considered here, we have employed the Weizsäcker-Williams method. Taking account of the reactions and the non-linearities of the meson field phenomenologically to some extent, we have treated the case of modified meson spectrum as suggested by Heisenberg. Obtained cross sections for the production of negative protons by the nucleon-nucleon collisions are smaller by the factor of about 10-4 in the case of modified meson spectrum than those in the case of neglecting the reactions and non-linearities of meson field completely. Also the cross section for the production of negative protons by proton-proton collisions near threshold is calculated by the method of Feynman's relativistic perturbation.
