McKesson is America’s oldest and largest healthcare services company. IBM Research developed an innovative scenario modeling and analysis tool, supply chain scenario modeler (SCSM), for McKesson to optimize its end-to-end pharmaceutical supply chain policies. Through integrated operations research (OR) models, SCSM optimizes the distribution network, supply flow, inventory, and transportation policies, and quantifies the impacts of changes on financial, operational, and environmental metrics. The modeling work spawned a roadmap of projects with quantified opportunities, including a new air freight supply chain path, and provided new insights that have been critical to improving McKesson’s performance as a pharmaceutical industry leader. A structured data model supporting the OR models has provided a basis for additional improvement projects. The model directly links OR modeling results to a detailed profit-and-loss statement by product category for the different supply chain paths that McKesson uses. Since this effort began in 2009, McKesson Pharmaceutical division has reduced its committed capital by more than $1 billion.

ネット採集システムの運動を，船の存在が考慮された形で表現することを試みた。このモデルでは従来，操作量として扱われることの多かった船速を状態量として扱うため，実システムにおける入出力関係をほぼ正確に表現できる。質点系モデルをラグランジュ方程式により記述し，システム要素のパラメータを仕様から求め当てはめた。北海道大学研究調査船うしお丸における FMT の実操業データを用いて検証をおこなったところ，モデルは曳網水深や船速の挙動を非常によく再現できることがわかった。

水平曳きで用いられるネット採集具の動特性を，線形モデルを用いて分析した。まず FMT の操業データを用いて線形モデルを検証した。そして減衰係数や非減衰固有角周波数をネット採集具の仕様や操業条件の関数として表現し，ネット採集具の動特性を一般化した。その結果，通常想定される操業条件では過減衰となり，1 次系で近似できること，採集具の見かけ質量の値は動特性に対してはほとんど影響を与えないこと，採集具の水深変動の抑制にワープ倍率を小さく用いることが有用であることを示した。

Controlled switching system (CSS) with a 204kV gas circuit breaker (GCB) demonstrates to reduce an inrush current and to eliminate re-ignitions in shunt reactor switching. Target closing and opening instants for controlled switching are determined by the electrical and mechanical characteristics of GCB. Idle time dependence of the operating time, which gives a sufficient impact on controlling accuracy, is evaluated and successfully compensated by synchronous switching controller (SSC). Field operation of CSS for a year shows an effective suppression of inrush current on closing and prevention of re-ignitions on opening of shunt reactor. The operations also proved that the CSS has a satisfactory performance for electro-magnetic disturbance imposed in practical field.

SUMMARY: A sampling trawl with a rigid mouth; that is, the frame trawl, was designed so as to catch the large larval and juvenile fish more efficiently. The net consisted of four 13 m panels (nylon multifilament and twine diameter φ 0.75 mm, mesh size 8 mm). The frame of the net's mouth was composed of four stainless steel pipes (length 4 m, diameter φ 76 mm, thickness 5 mm). Several operations were conducted to investigate the capability of catching juveniles. A lot of Sardinops melanostictus juveniles, which are generally difficult to catch, were caught during every operation. Underwater observations proved that juveniles could not elude the capture. The frame trawl requires no special handling and is possible to operate in a rough sea.

The purpose of this work is to develop a midwater trawl net to survey fish stock. A constant net mouth opening is necessary in order to measure fish stock densities accurately. For this purpose, canvas kites were attached to the midwater trawl net, instead of floats and weights.The area of canvas kites attached to the headrope and groundrope was derived from the equilibrium between the sum of vertical components of the towing force and the drag of the net. The model test were made with a scale of one-twentieth in a flume tank, in which the static characteristics of the kite-type net were compared with those of the float-type net. Further, a full-scale kite-type net was examined aboard the RV “Ushio-maru”.The kite-type model maintained a more constant form and net-mouth area than the float type net over a range of current speeds. The full-scale kite-type net maintained a constant net mouth height of 7meters, according to the plan. From these results, we conclude that the kite-type net is to be recommended for a better sampling device for fish stock assessments.

This paper describes the influence of surface roughness of steel plate on self-assembly behavior of silica particles based on SEM observations and the wettability of the suspension. The 304 stainless steel plate having two different surface roughness and spherical silica powder were used for the investigation. The silica layer was obtained by dipping the steel plate into the suspension and drawing it under various drawing speed. As a result, silica particle layers were formed on the plate surface when the stainless steel had a rough surface. In contrast, it was difficult to obtain the silica layers for the smooth surface.

Thallium in waste water can be removed effectively by DOWA Iron Powder Method which uses Fe metal powder and H2O2. The concentration of Tl in waste water was decreased by a factor of about 100 from the initial concentration with each treatment.
