Takemi Kimura, Junichi TakamatsuDivision of Clinical Research, National Hospital Organization Kikuchi Hospital, Koshi, Kumamoto, JapanAbstract: Rivastigmine, galantamine, and memantine, in addition to donepezil, which has been on the market over 10 years, have been available for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease (AD) since 2011 in Japan, leading a new stage in the medical treatment of AD. We studied two AD patients showing sudden deterioration of behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD) associated with switching from rivastigmine to donepezil after the clinical trial of rivastigmine. In the patients, rivastigmine seemed to be more beneficial than donepezil for the control of BPSD. Although It was not obvious whether their different responses to the two cholinesterase inhibitors were due to the different pharmacological profiles, ie, the presence of inhibition of butyrylcholinesterase in rivastigmine, a particular cholinesterase inhibitor might be more effective in particular AD cases. Abstract

Robots usage in the fields of human support and healthcare is wide-spreading. Robotic devices to assist humans in the self-feeding task have been developed to help patients with limited mobility in the upper limbs but the acceptance of these robots has been limited. In this work, we investigate how to quantitatively evaluate the comfort of an eating assistive device by estimating the interaction forces between the human and the robot when eating. We experimentally verify our concept with a commercially-available eating assistive device and a human subject. The evaluation results demonstrate the feasibility of our approach.

Abstract

Recent demographic trends in super aging societies, such as Japan, is leading to severe worker shortage. Service robots can play a promising role to augment human workers for performing various household and assistive tasks. Toilet cleanup is one such challenging task that involves performing complaint motion planning in a constrained toilet setting. In this study, we propose an end-to-end robotic framework to perform various tasks related to toilet cleanup. Our key contributions include the design of a complaint and multipurpose end-effector, an adaptive motion generation algorithm, and an autonomous mobile manipulator capable of garbage detection, garbage disposal and liquid removal. We evaluate the performance of our framework with the competition setting used for toilet cleanup in the Future Convenience Store Challenge at the World Robot Summit 2018. We demonstrate that our proposed framework is capable of successfully completing all the tasks of the competition within the time limit. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

As the retail industry keeps expanding and shortage of workers increasing, there is a need for autonomous manipulation of products to support retail operations. The increasing amount of products and customers in establishments such as convenience stores requires the automation of restocking, disposing and straightening of products. The manipulation of products needs to be time-efficient, avoid damaging products and beautify the display of products. In this paper, we propose a robotic system to restock shelves, dispose expired products, and straighten products in retail environments. The proposed mobile manipulator features a custom-made end effector with compact and compliant design to safely and effectively manipulate products in retail stores. Through experiments in a convenience store scenario, we verify the effectiveness of our system to restock, dispose and rearrange items. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

A high-resolution (α,α’) experiment has been performed in order to confirm the existence of the low-energy octupole resonance (LEOR) in ^Pb. Until now there was a puzzling discrepancy; an (α,α’) experiment denied the existence, while a (p,p’) measurement affirmed it. The present (α,α’) reaction with an improved resolution of 27 keV has identified clustering L=3 levels in the ‘‘LEOR region’’ in agreement with the former (p,p’) measurement. The observed strength, however, is weaker than the (p,p’) results, suggesting the coexistence of the isovector strength.

Abstract

Analisa os Sistemas Agroflorestais (SAFs) dentro de um contexto evolutivo quanto à mudança de combinação de plantas; relações de complementaridade, suplementaridade ou competitividade do ponto de vista biológico e econômico; e dos níveis tecnológico e de eficiência. Os dados utilizados foram baseados em entrevistas realizadas com 96 agricultores nipo-brasileiros do universo de 122 associados da Cooperativa Agrícola Mista de Tomé-Açu (CAMTA), do município de Tomé-Açu, estado do Pará. Os SAFs desenvolvidos por esses agricultores se sobressaem aos praticados por produtores locais. Constatou-se que, com as mudanças de preços, de mercados e o aparecimento de pragas e doenças, os SAFs podem ser alterados ou modificados no contexto do espaço e ao longo do tempo. Alguns sistemas são mantidos, mesmo que estejam dando pouca ou nenhuma renda, como plantios de cacau (Theobroma cacao L.) sombreados com andirobeiras (Carapa guianensis Aubl.), que datam da década de 1970. Muitos dos SAFs identificados são compostos por produtos sem mercado para o momento. Outros apresentam alta sustentabilidade ambiental, mas baixa sustentabilidade econômica e vice-versa.
