Abstract

The operando hydrogen microscope is an original apparatus that has been developed to visualize the time-dependent permeation of hydrogen through a sample. This apparatus is developed based on an ultrahigh vacuum scanning electron microscope (UHV SEM). The system consists of a lens system to focus ions produced by electron-stimulated desorption (ESD), an ion detector optimized for ESD-signal detection, and a two-dimensional measurement program synchronized with the position information of the electron beam. The developed detectors and electrostatic lenses enable highly sensitive detection of the ions. In this paper, we show the details of the instrumentation of the operando hydrogen microscope. We have succeeded in recording hydrogen and deuterium flowing from the rear of metals to the surface as a series of time-lapse images, showing the time-dependent changes in the surface distribution of hydrogen and deuterium. Deuterium permeation through the metal sample was dynamically visualized at the surface by the two-dimensional mapping of the desorbed ions induced by scanning electron beam irradiation. Abstract

SCARA robots generally have two revolute joints and one prismatic joint. One of the fundamental motions of the robots is horizontal transportation of a load by actuating the two revolute joints. Residual vibration of the prismatic joint generally occurs in the transportation, and it should be suppressed. In this paper, we propose an adaptive controller design for the transportation. The controlled object is modeled as a nonlinear double-input quadruple-output system with unknown mass of load. The controlled object is separated into two single-input double-output systems, which allows us to design an integral controller providing performance robustness with respect to estimation error of the mass. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method. Index Terms--Decoupling of systems, robots, robustness.

Abstract

A lead frame which meets the requirement of high speed driving large scale integration (LSI) package with superior output has been developed. Such a design tackles the problem of how to spread heat effectively while also resolving the issues of speed and exact waveform transmission to LSI. The lead frame has been manufactured using TAB tape carriers by chemical etching. Furthermore, its back side plain metal laminated with high modulus adhesive enables high speed wire bonding.

Abstract

Excitation of energetic-ion-driven Alfv6n eigenmodes (AEs) and their impact on energetic ion confinement are widely and intensively studied in helical devices such as CHS and LHD as well as major tokamaks. The excitation of AEs sensitively depends on the parameter space defined by the averaged beam beta and the velocity ratio V6nlV6 (V611 : injected beam ion velocity, Va: Alfv6n velocity). In LHD, these two relevant parameters are widely scanned without suffering from current disruptions. So far, toroidicity induced AE (TAE), global AE (GAE) and energetic particle mode (EPM) or resonant TAE (R-TAE) were identified during tangential neutral beam injection (NBI) in CHS and LHD. Moreover, a new coherent mode with the frequency by about 8 times higher than the TAE frequency was observed in NBI heated plasmas of LHD at low magnetic field (

Abstract

Abscess formation of the round ligament of the liver is very rare. We report a case of a 70-year-old female with abscess of the round ligament after an endoscopic papillotomy for choledocholithiasis. On the 21st day following papillotomy, abscess formation of the round ligament was found by ultrasonographic examination. Surgical treatment was performed because conservative therapy was not effective. The purulent fluid and necrotic tissue at the round ligament were completely removed. Cultures obtained from the abscess grew Staphylococcus epidermidis, but the mechanism of abscess formation in this case remains unclear.

Abstract

Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) have been reported to occasionally occur in patients with neurofi bromatosis type 1 (NF-1), and many cases have had multiple lesions predominantly involving the small intestine. We report herein a case of multiple GISTs associated with NF-1 from whom laparoscopic surgery was benefi cial. In a 79-year-old female admitted with anemia and melena, the abdominal computed tomography revealed a tumor arising from the small intestine. Laparoscopic surgery was performed, and another small tumor was revealed during laparoscopic observation. Extracorporeal partial and wedge resection of the small intestine were undertaken. Both lesions were diagnosed as typical GISTs of low risk. Laparoscopic surgery would be useful for examination and a minimally invasive approach to tumors of the small intestine, especially on cases with the possibility of multiple tumors.
