Postpartum depression (PPD) affects up to 19% of all mothers, with detrimental effects on both mother and child. The antidepressant and anxiolytic effects of plasma oxytocin are well-documented, but it is still disputable whether synthetic oxytocin (synOT) may protect women against postpartum mood alterations. The current study examined the association between synOT intrapartum and maternal mood postpartum using a prospective design. Two hundred sixty women were screened for depressive symptoms in the last trimester of pregnancy and then again 6 weeks and 9 months postpartum using the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale. They also completed Maternity Blues Questionnaire in the first postpartum week. The data concerning the intrapartum interventions and health status of the newborn were extracted from the medical records. Cox proportional hazards regression adjusted for a history of depression, mode of delivery, and childbirth experience showed that synOT predicted a significantly lower risk of PPD (HR = 0.65, 95% CI 0.45–0.95, p = 0.025). The aim of this study is to explore the psychosocial aspects of care provided in maternity hospitals. The study is divided into three parts: i) the psychosocial aspects of care for parturients, ii) the psychosocial aspects of care for the newborn, and iii) the psychosomatic issues in obstetrics. Each part includes a review of the relevant literature and a presentation of the specific research carried out for the purpose of this thesis. The first part discusses the psychosocial competences of healthcare providers (social support, communication, providing of information, etc.), while subsequent research focuses on the psychosocial factors that influence parturients' satisfaction with perinatal care. The second part is devoted to psychological importance of birth experience for the newborn and early mother-child contact, psychosocial needs of the health-risk newborn and initiation of breastfeeding, with the research section containing the inquiry into the factors that may influence the start of breastfeeding. The aim of this diploma thesis was to find out whether there is a connection between the ways of emotional regulation that mothers use in communication with their children and their attachment. The literature review section defines the basic concepts for this work, which are attachment, emotional regulation and their connectivity and the interaction of the mother with her child. In the research participated 288 respondents. The research is quantitative. The results and methods of data processing are described in the empirical part. The ECR-R16 Close Relationship Experience Questionnaire and the ERQ Emotional Regulation Questionnaire were mainly used for data collection. The question of mapping the frequency of experiencing emotions was inspired by part of the questionnaire by Zaouche-Gaudron et al. The findings show that statistically significant results were found for disorganized attachment. The connection has been shown in disorganized attachment and suppression as a way of regulating emotions. It has also been shown that this attachment style differs in the frequency of pride and sadness compared to other attachment styles. The bachelor thesis addresses the relationship between stress in pregnancy, nonpharmacological interventions, which are possible to use for its reduction, and maternal bonding after birth. In the first chapter, the literature review describes particular types of stress, which can occur during pregnancy, mechanisms via which stress affects foetus, and impacts on both mother and child. The second chapter summarizes principles and effectivity of particular interventions for stress reduction during pregnancy, e.g. various forms of psychotherapy, yoga or mindfulness-based interventions. In the third chapter, the paper describes maternal bonding, its differentiation from the concept of attachment and its correlates. The fourth chapter concerns present scientific findings about the relationship of all these phenomena. In the empirical section, a research project draft is presented, aim of which is to discover the impact of Mindfulness-Based Childbirth and Parenting in pregnancy on the maternal bonding quality with a possible mediation of lowered level of perceived stress or reduce depressive symptomatology.

Parental burnout is a new psychological concept. The theoretical part of the thesis describes an overview of research on parental burnout, including its prevalence, symptoms, mechanisms and factors of development, distinction of related concepts, consequences, and diagnostic options. The aim of the study carried out as a part of this thesis was validation of the Czech version of the Parental Burnout Assessment (PBACZ). The research sample consisted of 285 parents. The confirmatory factor analysis indicated poor fit of the theoretical four factor structure of original questionnaire (exhaustion, contrast, feelings of being fed up, emotional distancing) to the data. The reliability of PBACZ was excellent (α= .97). The PBACZ did not corelated with job burnout however it showed strong correlation with stress, anxiety, depression, and it predicted the level of the parental rejection. We can assume that the overall PBACZ scale gives a valid information about the level of parental burnout. Nevertheless, it cannot be evaluated on the level of the single subscales. The detected prevalence of parental burnout in Czech parents' sample was 12,6 %. This thesis focuses on a pilot testing of the Brief Infant-Toddler Social Emotional Assessment (BITSEA), a questionnaire designed for screening of social-emotional and behavioural difficulties in children from one to three years of age. The aim of the theoretical part is to introduce the reader to the socio-emotional development of the child, as well as to some of the disorders related to this area. The literary section includes a description of screening and diagnostic methods focused on the socio-emotional area and the description of the BITSEA questionnaire. The research part focuses on the translation of the questionnaire and its pilot validation on the Czech population. The main goal of the work is to ascertain what is the internal consistency of the scales and whether the Czech translation of the questionnaire can distinguish between children with suspected difficulties and children with presumed normal development.

The thesis is aimed at perinatal factors affecting the emotional bond between a mother and a child (boding) during the first weeks postpartum. The literature review is divided into three chapters. The first chapter discusses the childbirth, the experience of childbirth and the factors affecting a subjective evaluation of the childbirth by a parturient. The second chapter follows up with an overview of findings concerning the initial afterbirth moments, and the interaction between a mother and a child during early contact. The third chapter introduces the concept of bonding. It describes its manifestations, possible measuring methods, and factors influencing its quality. The research part analyzes perinatal factors affecting bonding on a sample of 1108 mothers with the use of generalized linear regression. The independent variables are: mode of birth, the evaluation of childbirth experience by mother, and the process of early contact between a mother and a child. The results show that bonding during the first weeks postpartum was not affected by the mode of birth or by the parturient's evaluation of the childbirth experience. The work deals with the understanding of own emotions in preschool children and the possibilities of its development. The literature review part presents the most well-known models of emotional intelligence and understanding of own emotions as its basic component. It also describes the developmental specifics of the preschool period with an emphasis on emotional development, and in particular the development of understanding of emotions. Factors that influence emotional development and ways in which emotional intelligence and specifically understanding of emotions can be developed are presented. The aim of the research part is to investigate, through a qualitative study design, how the expression of understanding of one's own emotions in preschool children changes after the intervention, in which the publication Emušáci: Ferda a jeho mouchy by Michaela Dostálová, Sylvia Jančiová and Helena Vlčková is used. The data are collected through individual structured interviews and processed by thematic analysis. The results describe how preschool children express their understanding of their own emotions and what changes occur in this respect after the implementation of the chosen form of intervention. About 4 % women in general population and up to 19 % women in at-risk population suffer from PTSD related to childbirth. The main risk factors for postpartum PTSD are negative birth experience and obstetric emergencies. However, the findings about risk factors and prevalence rates vary across studies, which is mainly due to the inconsistency in the diagnostics of postpartum PTSD. Researchers use various PTSD measures that differ in the number and type of symptoms monitored and many of these measures do not cover all DSM criteria for PTSD. Furthermore, the PTSD diagnostic criteria have been significantly modified in the new DSM-5 and the existing instruments need to be revised. The first part of the thesis presents the concept of PTSD related to childbirth. Special attention is paid to the risk factors identified in previous research and to the analysis of PTSD diagnostic and screening measures used in the postpartum context. Nowadays, women have a wide range of sources of information about childbirth. Women's attitudes toward childbirth are made by sharing experiences between women and in families but also they are based on informations from media and internet. Consequently attitudes toward childbirth influence the choice of kind of delivery and women's childbirth experience. These days we can see some trends in obstetrics - the rising interest in natural births, on the one hand, and the rising number of women delivering their babies by cesarean section on the other hand. The goal of this socio-psychologically oriented thesis is to map women's attitudes to these most striking birth trends, and also to identify the reasons for these women's attitudes. The research part is thus focused qualitatively and uses the data from the analysis of the internet discussion forums for mothers. The bachelor thesis focuses on the problematics of postpartum blues and postpartum depression. The particular emphasis is put on screening more precisely diagnostics and etiology of theese mental diorders. In the literature-overview section the thesis presents selected tools for screening and diagnostics and summarizes the most important risk factors. Particular attention is paid to factors related to the psychological and psychosocial characteristics of women. The conclusion of the literary-overview section concentrate on the relationship between postpartum blues and postpartum depression. In the second part of the thesis is presented a proposal of quantitative research. This research focuses on the prevalence of postpartum blues and postpartum depression and on the ability of postpartum blues to predict the subsequent occurrence of postpartum depression. Potential for Applying Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis to Psychological Research Abstract: This bachelor's thesis deals with Interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA) and the potential for applying it to psychological research. The aim of this work is to describe the theoretical frame and philosophical foundation of this method, which is explicitly related to phenomenology. The thesis is based on the original book of Jonathan Smith, the founder of IPA, and also on writings of Edmund Husserl, the founder of phenomenology. It explicates some usage of phenomenological concepts such as transcendental reduction in the frame of IPA, and it analyses differences in meaning of these concepts in the frame of IPA and the frame of Husserl's system, i.e. transcendental phenomenology (₮F). It helps to clarify the degree to which IPA can be considered "phenomenological" in the real sense of the word. IPA is briefly compared with those methods and a detailed comparison is made with the Descriptive phenomenological-psychological method (DFPM). The work offers a review of psychological IPA research and fields for which the method can adequately be used. The bachelor thesis describes the concept of guilt in the work of german psychologist and philosopher Karl T. Jaspers. The first part is dedicated to introducing Karl Jaspers as author and thinker, the second part will be elaborating on the context of his own thinking in he light of important thinkers who influenced him. The third part analyses in detail Jaspers's fundametal work The Question of German Guilt, while emphasizing moral and metaphysical guilt. The fourth part is dedicated to the issue of collective guilt and Jaspers's view of this matter and tho reactions of other authors. In the fifth part is developed the concept of conscience, which partly answers some of the questions raised in Jaspers's work. This work observes the relation between mother-child early contact immediately after birth and emotional tune of mothers in relation to their child. The theoretical part deals with the situation of labor, further development after birth, with an emphasis on very early contact and ways to establish the relationship between a mother and a child. In the end of the theoretical part, the quality of the relationship between a mother and a child and the interactions between them is described. The empirical part examines if the early contact immediately after birth or a general contact between mothers and babies in the hospital, influence emotional tune of a mother to her child. The research was based on interviews with mothers who were describing their child. It was assumed that the emotional tune of mothers is associated with the choice of adjectives describing their child or the whole situation. However, research does not show a significant relation of early contact and emotional tune of a mother to her child. Based on the research results, the conclusion is that the immediate early contact after birth does not have a significant effect on the quality of the relationship between a mother and her child.

This thesis focuses on mapping and evaluation of psychosocial climate by expectant mothers in the "Česko-německá horská nemocnice s.r.o.". This work is based on the results of the research project "Psychosocial climate in maternity hospitals from the perspective of parturients - theory and diagnostics" (project no. 316111), realized in the Department of Psychology, Faculty of Arts, Charles University in Prague. The thesis is a theoretical and empirical work. The theoretical part provides knowledge about psychological changes, which the woman goes through during her pregnancy, childbirth and the postpartum period. The further space is devoted to the historical look at the development of inclusion of the psychosocial aspects into the health care and the current approach to the patients in general basis and to the women in labour especially. The theoretical part touches also the pathological mental states of women occurring in this time most frequently. However, the psychosocial aspects of the care for the woman in the perinatal period are the core of the theoretical part.
