Polypore fungi are an important part of forest ecosystems. In the last decade, the taxonomic status and species number of polypore fungi have changed greatly, and many new taxa have been discovered. China is one of the countries with the most abundant and diverse polypore fungi in the world, and a total of 1,214 polypore fungal species were reported here. This study lists the polypore fungi with their diversity, taxonomic status, habitats, geographical distributions, and molecular data. All the polypore fungi in China belong to the phylum Basidiomycota, subphylum Agaricomycotina, and class Agaricomycetes, including 11 orders, 55 families, and 266 genera. The orders Polyporales and Hymenochaetales are dominant, and the families Polyporaceae and Hymenochaetaceae are dominant. The overall distribution trend of polypore fungi in China shows that more species are distributed in the south and fewer are distributed in the north. In addition, different nutritional modes of polypore fungi have different preferences for host species, with white-rot fungi preferring angiosperm trees and brown-rot fungi preferring gymnosperm trees.

Abstract Low-dimensional multiferroics, which simultaneously possess at least two primary ferroic order parameters, hold great promise for post-Moore electronic devices. However, intrinsic one-dimensional (1D) multiferroics with the coexistence of ferroelectricity and ferromagnetism are still yet to be realized, which will be not only crucial for exploring the interplay between low-dimensionality and ferroelectric/ferromagnetic ordering but also significant in rendering application approaches for high density information technologies. Here, we present a theoretical prediction of intrinsic multiferroicity in 1D molybdenum oxytrihalides nanowires, especially focusing on MoOBr3 nanowires which could be readily extracted from experimentally synthesized van der Waals MoOBr3 bulk materials. Due to the spatial inversion symmetry spontaneously broken by Mo atoms’ displacements, MoOBr3 nanowires exhibit 1D ferroelectricity with small coercive electric field and exceptional Curie temperature (~570 K). Additionally, MoOBr3 nanowires also possess 1D antiferroelectric metastable states. On the other hand, both ferroelectric and antiferroelectric MoOBr3 nanowires exhibit ferromagnetic ordering on account of the half-filled Mo-d yz orbitals, a moderate tensile strain (~5%) can greatly boost the spontaneous polarization (~40%) and a mild compress strain (~−2%) may readily switch the magnetic easy axis of ferroelectric MoOBr3 nanowires. Our work holds potential candidates for developing innovative devices that exploit intrinsic multiferroic properties, enabling advancements in novel electronic and spintronic applications.

In this paper, we investigate the resistive switching (RS) behavior of Cu/ZnO/ITO devices subjected to various rapid thermal annealing (RTA) temperatures under vacuum. Current–voltage characteristics reveal that following the application of a positive electroforming voltage, both unannealed ZnO films and those annealed at 200 °C exhibit bipolar RS, consistent with the electrochemical metallization mechanism (ECM). However, films annealed at higher temperatures exhibit RS with both positive and negative electroforming threshold voltages and coexistence of switching in both polarities. Ultimately, these films display RS behavior aligned with the valence change mechanism (VCM), dominated by a negative electroforming voltage and RS on the negative bias side, while positive electroforming voltage and RS vanish for films annealed at 600 °C. Curve fitting analysis was conducted for Schottky emission (SE), space-charge limited current, and Poole–Frenkel (PF) emission mechanisms, with SE and PF emission providing better fits. These results demonstrate the tunability of ECM and VCM RS modes and the polarity of the forming bias, underscoring the potential of vacuum RTA in advancing ZnO-based memory device development.

This study examines resistive switching in a Cu/ZnO/ITO structure, uncovering an anomalous phenomenon that provides insights into the mechanisms of parallel conducting filaments in ZnO thin films. The current–voltage (I–V) characteristics exhibit a sharp switch at a positive threshold voltage around 2 V, transitioning from a high resistance pristine state to a low resistance state, interpreted as the formation of a Cu filament via electrochemical metallization. However, after this forming process, the device remains in the low resistance state and cannot reset to a high resistance state in either polarity of the applied voltage, suggesting the presence of a strong, unbreakable Cu filament after the forming process. What makes this phenomenon anomalous is the observed weak bipolar resistive switching in the cycles following the forming cycle, despite the presence of the Cu filament. The I–V characteristics of forward- and reverse-bias sweeps suggest that the weak bipolar resistive switching results from an additional filament formed in parallel with the existing unbreakable Cu filament. Using a parallel conducting filaments model, the resistivity of this additional filament is calculated to be ∼10−7–10−5 Ω m, indicating that this filament is likely generated by oxygen vacancies rather than metal atoms in the ZnO films.

Abstract Realization of higher-order multistates with mutual interstate switching in ferroelectric materials is a perpetual drive for high-density storage devices and beyond-Moore technologies. Here we demonstrate experimentally that antiferroelectric van der Waals CuInP2S6 films can be controllably stabilized into double, quadruple, and sextuple polarization states, and a system harboring polarization order of six is also reversibly tunable into order of four or two. Furthermore, for a given polarization order, mutual interstate switching can be achieved via moderate electric field modulation. First-principles studies of CuInP2S6 multilayers help to reveal that the double, quadruple, and sextuple states are attributable to the existence of respective single, double, and triple ferroelectric domains with antiferroelectric interdomain coupling and Cu ion migration. These findings offer appealing platforms for developing multistate ferroelectric devices, while the underlining mechanism is transformative to other non-volatile material systems.

The 2H‐MoTe2 is a well‐known layered 2D semiconductor that is considered as a promising material for next‐generation microelectronic and optoelectronic devices. Te‐deficiency‐induced defective structures, like Te vacancy and mirror twin boundary (MTB), would be generated at elevated temperatures. However, the temperature‐dependent evolution of such defects and their influence on the macroscopic electrical transport property of 2H‐MoTe2 is unclear. Herein, the semiconductor–metal transition phenomenon in 2H‐MoTe2−x mediated by the evolving disordered MTB network with increasing Te deficiency is reported on. The samples are grown by molecular beam epitaxy, while the Te deficiency is tuned by post‐growth flash annealing in ultra‐high vacuum. Low‐temperature scanning tunneling microscope investigation discloses the medium‐range disorder evolution of the MTB network incorporated in the 2H‐MoTe2, which eventually transforms to an ordered metallic Mo5Te8 metastable phase. The scanning tunneling spectroscopy shows rich in‐gap states localized at the MTBs, which provide a conducting channel in the semiconductor. The ultra‐high vacuum in situ transport measurement shows a gradual decrease of resistance of the sample upon flash annealing from 50 to 480 °C, confirming the influence of Te deficiency on the transport property, which would play an essential role in the device performance and durability.

Abstract 2D materials with long‐range ferromagnetic order hold promises for the development of compact spintronic devices with unprecedented multifunctionality and tunability. Among various 2D magnets, self‐intercalated transition metal chalcogenides Cr1+δTe2 exhibit unique features, especially excellent ambient stability and intrinsic ferromagnetic ordering above room temperature, which are critical requirements for real‐life device applications. Despite the many investigations of the magnetic properties of the Cr1+δTe2 family on the averaging macroscopic level, the domain evolution on the microscale, which is vital to nanoscale spintronics, is yet to be fully understood. Here, the evolution of magnetic behaviors of Cr0.92Te crystals is presented on both macro‐ and micro‐scales under magnetic field and thermal excitation. The crystal exhibits a high Curie temperature (Tc ≈ 343 K) among the Cr1+δTe2 family with weak magnetic anisotropy and in‐plane magnetic easy axis. Utilizing magnetic force microscopy, a pristine multidomain state and typical domain‐switching behavior are observed. Moreover, the evolution of domain texture under thermal excitation shows statistical power‐law scaling as approaching Tc. The results provide microscopic insight into the ferromagnetic behavior of a room‐temperature quasi‐2D crystal, which can be useful for further engineering of domain texture in low‐dimensional magnetic materials.

Brown-rot fungi are an important group of wood-decaying fungi, but there has been limited research on the species diversity of brown-rot fungi in Xinjiang, China. During an investigation of brown-rot fungi in Xinjiang, from July 2018 to July 2023, five new species belonging to the family Postiaceae were discovered based on morphological and molecular evidence. Amaropostia altaiensis is characterized by a conchate pileus, circular pores (5–8 per mm), and growing on Populus. Amaropostia tianshanensis is characterized by a flabelliform-to-conchate pileus, angular pores (5–6 per mm), and growing on Picfea. Cyanosporus latisporus is characterized by a hirsute and dark greyish blue pileal surface with fresh, larger pores (3–6 per mm) and broad basidiospores (4.3–5.9 × 1.4–2 µm). Cyanosporus tianshanensis is characterized by a smooth and white-to-cream pileal surface with fresh, smaller pores (6–9 per mm). Osteina altaiensis is characterized by a light mouse-grey-to-honey-yellow pileal surface, smaller pores (4–6 per mm), and slightly wide basidiospores (5–6 × 1.7–2.2 µm). Each of these five new species form independent lineages in phylogenetic analyses based on the seven gene loci (ITS + nLSU + nSSU + mtSSU + TEF1 + RPB1 + RPB2). This research enriches the diversity of brown-rot fungi species, while also demonstrating the substantial discovery potential and research value of brown-rot fungi in Xinjiang.

Wood-inhabiting fungi are abundant in China, but their distribution is uneven, with more fungi in southwest China and fewer fungi in northwest China. During the investigation of wood-inhabiting fungi in Xinjiang, we collected a large number of specimens. Eight specimens growing on Picea schrenkiana were collected from Tianshan Mountains, and they were described as two new species in Ceriporiopsis and Sidera based on morphological characters and molecular evidence. Ceriporiopsis tianshanensis is characterized by a cream to salmon-buff pore surface, larger pores measuring 1–3 per mm, and broadly ellipsoid basidiospores 5–6.5 × 3–4 μm. Sidera tianshanensis is characterized by annual to perennial basidiocarps, measuring 15 mm thick, pores 5–7 per mm, cream to rosy buff pore surface, and allantoid basidiospores 3–3.5 × 1–1.4 µm. Detailed illustrations and descriptions of the novel species are provided.

In this work, we demonstrate a hydrogen-terminated diamond (H-diamond) field-effect transistor (FET) with Al2O3/CeB6 gate materials. The CeB6 and Al2O3 films have been deposited by electron beam evaporation technique, sequentially. For the 4/8/12/15 μm gate length (LG) devices, the whole devices demonstrate distinct p-type normally off characteristics, and all the threshold voltage are negative; all the absolute values of leakage current density are 10−4 A/cm2 at a VGS of −11 V, exhibiting a relatively low leakage current density compared with CeB6 FETs, and this further demonstrates the feasibility of the introduction of Al2O3 to reduce the leakage current density; the maximum drain–source current density is −114.6, −96.0, −80.9, and −73.7 mA/mm, which may be benefited from the well-protected channel. For the 12 μm LG devices, the saturation carrier mobility is 593.6 cm2/V s, demonstrating a good channel transport characteristic. Trametopsis is a worldwide genus belonging to Irpicaceae in the phlebioid clade, which can cause a white decay of wood. Previously, only three species were ascribed to the genus. In this study, we performed a morphological and phylogenetic study of Trametopsis. Molecular phylogenetic analyses of multiple loci included the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) regions, the large subunit nuclear ribosomal RNA gene (nLSU), the largest subunit of RNA polymerase II (RPB1), the second largest subunit of RNA polymerase II (RPB2) and the translation elongation factor 1-α gene (TEF1). Phylogenetic trees were inferred from the combined datasets of ITS+nLSU sequences and ITS+nLSU+RPB1+RPB2+TEF1 sequences by using maximum parsimony, maximum likelihood and Bayesian inference analyses. Combined with molecular data, morphological characters and ecological traits, two new species of Trametopsis are discovered. Trametopsis abieticola is characterised by its pileate, solitary or imbricate basidiomata, buff to buff-yellow pileal surface when fresh, becoming pinkish buff to clay-buff when dry, cream to buff pore surface when fresh, becoming pinkish buff to greyish brown upon drying, round to angular and large pores (0.5–1 per mm), cylindrical basidiospores (5.8–7.2 × 1.9–2.6 μm), distributed in the high altitude of mountains and grows on Abies sp. Trametopsis tasmanica is characterised by its resupinate basidiomata, cream to pinkish-buff pore surface when fresh, becoming honey-yellow to snuff brown upon drying, cylindrical basidiospores (5.2–6.3 × 1.8–2.2 μm), and by growing on Eucalyptus sp. Detailed descriptions and illustrations of the two novel species are provided.

Controlling the spin Hall angle is significant to tunable and energy-efficient spintronic devices. Here, the authors demonstrate that the spin Hall angle in Bi2Se3 can be tuned and even enhanced about 600% reversibly by the electric field.

Abstract The sub‐nanometer‐diameter transitional‐metal chalcogenides (M6X6) molecular wires are ideal 1D quantum systems. The electronic properties of such system are very sensitive to the interface interaction and local imperfection. Here, the atomic structure and local electronic structure of van der Waals (vdW) stacking Mo6Te6 nanowires fabricated by using molecular beam epitaxy are reported. Atomic‐resolution scanning tunneling microscopy measurement shows that the vdW interface distance varies from 0.71 to 1.05 nm when Mo6Te6 wires stacked on graphite, MoTe2, and Mo6Te6 surfaces. Scanning tunneling spectroscopy confirmed the 1D quantum effect of van Hove singularity and Tomonaga–Luttinger liquid behavior at 77.8 K. Single Te vacancies and their effect to the local structure distortion are observed as well. These observations shed light on the local structure and quantum effects of the M6X6 nanowire materials, which may find applications in future electronic devices.

Abstract Background The establishment and maintenance of functional neural connections relies on appropriate distribution and localization of mitochondria in neurites, as these organelles provide essential energy and metabolites. In particular, mitochondria are transported to axons and support local energy production to maintain energy-demanding neuronal processes including axon branching, growth, and regeneration. Additionally, local protein synthesis is required for structural and functional changes in axons, with nuclear-encoded mitochondrial mRNAs having been found localized in axons. However, it remains unclear whether these mRNAs are locally translated and whether the potential translated mitochondrial proteins are involved in the regulation of mitochondrial functions in axons. Here, we aim to further understand the purpose of such compartmentalization by focusing on the role of mitochondrial initiation factor 3 (mtIF3), whose nuclear-encoded transcripts have been shown to be present in axonal growth cones. Results We demonstrate that brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) induces local translation of mtIF3 mRNA in axonal growth cones. Subsequently, mtIF3 protein is translocated into axonal mitochondria and promotes mitochondrial translation as assessed by our newly developed bimolecular fluorescence complementation sensor for the assembly of mitochondrial ribosomes. We further show that BDNF-induced axonal growth requires mtIF3-dependent mitochondrial translation in distal axons. Conclusion We describe a previously unknown function of mitochondrial initiation factor 3 (mtIF3) in axonal protein synthesis and development. These findings provide insight into the way neurons adaptively control mitochondrial physiology and axonal development via local mtIF3 translation.

Cyanosporus is a genus widely distributed in Asia, Europe, North America, South America and Oceania. It grows on different angiosperm and gymnosperm trees and can cause brown rot of wood. Blue-tinted basidiomata of Cyanosporus makes it easy to distinguish from other genera, but the similar morphological characters make it difficult to identify species within the genus. Phylogeny and taxonomy of Cyanosporus were carried out based on worldwide samples with an emphasis on Chinese collections, and the species diversity of the genus is updated. Four new species, C. flavus, C. rigidus, C. subungulatus and C. tenuicontextus, are described based on the evidence of morphological characters, distribution areas, host trees and molecular phylogenetic analyses inferred from the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) regions, the large subunit of nuclear ribosomal RNA gene (nLSU), the small subunit of nuclear ribosomal RNA gene (nSSU), the small subunit of mitochondrial rRNA gene (mtSSU), the largest subunit of RNA polymerase II (RPB1), the second largest subunit of RNA polymerase II (RPB2), and the translation elongation factor 1-α gene (TEF). Our study expanded the number of Cyanosporus species to 35 around the world including 23 species from China. Detailed descriptions of the four new species and the geographical locations of the Cyanosporus species in China are provided.

The magnetic, elastic, and dynamical properties of L10-type FePt alloy are investigated under high pressure using first-principles calculations. The critical pressure of ferromagnetism collapse is identified as 96.7 GPa, and the alloy exhibits mechanical stability over the studied pressure range up to 120 GPa. Below the critical pressure, ductility hardly changes with pressure, and the elastic anisotropy is enhanced by pressure. The ductility and elastic anisotropy of the system show a sudden decrease beyond the critical pressure. Dynamical stabilities under ambient and high pressures are verified by phonon spectra. The alloy is dynamically stable before the critical pressure of 96.7 GPa due to spontaneous magnetization. Finally, the anisotropy of phonon density of states under high pressure is evaluated in detail, and the result indicates that the degree of anisotropy is almost independent of pressure. Mask wearing is the easiest and most effective way to avoid COVID-19 infection; however, it affects interpersonal activities, especially face identification. This study examined the effects of three mask coverage levels (full coverage, FC; coverage up to the middle [MB] or bottom of the nose bridge [BB]) on face identification accuracy and time. A total of 115 university students (60 men and 55 women) were recruited to conduct a computer-based simulation test consisting of 30 questions (10 questions [five face images each of men and women] for the three mask coverage levels). One unmasked target face and four face images with a specified mask coverage level were designed for each question, and the participants were requested to select the same face from the four covered face images on the basis of the target face. Leptoporus is a rare and remarkable genus, mainly occurring in coniferous forests in the Northern Hemisphere. Recent phylogenetic studies showed that Leptoporus belongs to Irpicaceae in the phlebioid clade. It is worth noting that most species in the phlebioid clade can cause white-rot decay, except for the Leptoporus species, which can cause a brown-rot decay. In this study, we performed phylogenetic and taxonomic studies of Leptoporus and related genera. Molecular phylogenetic analyses were conducted based on sequences from multiple loci including the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) regions, the large subunit of nuclear ribosomal RNA gene (nLSU), the largest subunit of RNA polymerase II gene (RPB1), the second largest subunit of RNA polymerase II gene (RPB2), and the translation elongation factor 1-α gene (TEF1). Combined with morphological characteristics, a new species, Leptoporus submollis sp. nov., is discovered and illustrated from Southwest China.

Butterfly magnetoresistance (BMR) and antisymmetric magnetoresistance (ASMR) are about a butterfly-cross curve and a curve with one peak and one valley when a magnetic field is swept up and down along a fixed direction. Other than the parallelogram-shaped magnetoresistance-curve (MR-curve) often observed in magnetic memory devices, BMR and ASMR are two ubiquitous types of MR-curves observed in diversified magnetic systems, including van der Waals materials, strongly correlated systems, and traditional magnets. Here, we reveal the general principles and the picture behind the BMR and the ASMR that do not depend on the detailed mechanisms of magnetoresistance: 1) The systems exhibit hysteresis loops, common for most magnetic materials with coercivities. 2) The magnetoresistance of the magnetic structures in a large positive magnetic field and in a large negative magnetic field is approximately the same. With the generalized Ohm’s law in magnetic materials, these principles explain why most BMR appears in the longitudinal resistance measurements and is very rare in the Hall resistance measurements. Simple toy models, in which the Landau-Lifshitz-Gilbert equation governs magnetization, are used to demonstrate the principles and explain the appearance and disappearance of BMR in various experiments. Our finding provides a simple picture to understand magnetoresistance-related experiments.

The genus Hydnellum is a kind of ectomycorrhizal fungi that can play a role in the material cycle by connecting the plant roots to the soil, and some species of Hydnellum are medicinal fungi with vital research value. The species diversity of Hydnellum is unclear in China. In this study, five new species of Hydnellum are described from China based on morphological characters and phylogenetic analyses inferred from two datasets of ITS + LSU and ITS + LSU + SSU + RPB2 sequences. H. chocolatum is characterized by its chocolate basidiomata with the fibrillose, spongy to tomentose pileal surface, and subglobose to globose basidiospores measuring (4.5–)5–6 × 4–5(–5.8) μm. H. concentricum is characterized by its zonate pileal surface, thin context, short stipe, presence of both simple septa and clamp connections in generative hyphae of spines, and subglobose to ellipsoidal basidiospores measuring (3.5–)4–5(–5.2) × (3.2–)3.5–5 μm. H. crassipileatum is characterized by its thick pileus with the reddish brown to grayish brown pileal surface, and subglobose to ellipsoidal basidiospores measuring 4–6(–6.5) × 4–5.5 μm. H. melanocarpum is characterized by its vinaceous brown to black pileus with spongy pileal surface, presence of both simple septa and clamp connections in generative hyphae of spines, and subglobose basidiospores measuring 4.5–5.5(–6) × (3.5–)3.8–5.1 μm. H. radiatum is characterized by its radially aligned stripes on pileal surface, grayish brown context, short stipe, and subglobose to ellipsoidal basidiospores measuring (3.5–)4–5 × 3–4.5(–5) μm. Full descriptions, illustrations, and phylogenetic trees to show the placement of the new species are provided.

Experiencing a serious natural disaster may place survivors at particularly high risk for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD); however, very limited data are available on the prevalence and clinical characteristics of PTSD among survivors of a tornado disaster. The present study examined the prevalence of PTSD and correlates and clinical symptoms of possible PTSD in survivors 1.5 months after a tornado disaster. A total of 237 survivors were recruited and administered the Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-V (SCID) to measure the prevalence of PTSD and the Essen Trauma Inventory (ETI) to measure the incidence of symptoms in each dimension. Survivors'demographic information and characteristics of exposure to the tornado were collected via self-report questionnaires. Thirty-two of the survey respondents were diagnosed with PTSD (13.6%, total =237). Correlates of PTSD in survivors were being female (OR=3.62, P = 0.023), living in an area severely affected by the tornado (OR = 3.94, P = 0.032), and having severe property damage (OR = 3.72, P = 0.010). Less common symptoms mainly focused on the avoidance dimension and included feeling alienated or distant from the people around oneself (21.90%), not being able to recall important parts of the event (28.10%), being emotionally numb (31.20%), and feeling like one's plans for the future and hopes will not come true (37.50%). In the sample of rural residents, nearly two-thirds of people with PTSD were not willing to seek psychological help; increasing the accessibility of mental health services and administering more active mental health services are necessary for this vulnerable population, whether or not they claim to need help.

The current–voltage (I–V) characteristics exhibit a sharp switch at a positive threshold voltage around 2 V, transitioning from a high resistance pristine state to a low resistance state, interpreted as the formation of a Cu filament via electrochemical metallization. However, after this forming process, the device remains in the low resistance state and cannot reset to a high resistance state in either polarity of the applied voltage, suggesting the presence of a strong, unbreakable Cu filament after the forming process. What makes this phenomenon anomalous is the observed weak bipolar resistive switching in the cycles following the forming cycle, despite the presence of the Cu filament. The I–V characteristics of forward- and reverse-bias sweeps suggest that the weak bipolar resistive switching results from an additional filament formed in parallel with the existing unbreakable Cu filament. Using a parallel conducting filaments model, the resistivity of this additional filament is calculated to be ∼10−7–10−5 Ω m, indicating that this filament is likely generated by oxygen vacancies rather than metal atoms in the ZnO films. Brown-rot fungi are an important group of wood-decaying fungi, but there has been limited research on the species diversity of brown-rot fungi in Xinjiang, China. During an investigation of brown-rot fungi in Xinjiang, from July 2018 to July 2023, five new species belonging to the family Postiaceae were discovered based on morphological and molecular evidence. Amaropostia altaiensis is characterized by a conchate pileus, circular pores (5–8 per mm), and growing on Populus. Amaropostia tianshanensis is characterized by a flabelliform-to-conchate pileus, angular pores (5–6 per mm), and growing on Picfea. Cyanosporus latisporus is characterized by a hirsute and dark greyish blue pileal surface with fresh, larger pores (3–6 per mm) and broad basidiospores (4.3–5.9 × 1.4–2 µm). Cyanosporus tianshanensis is characterized by a smooth and white-to-cream pileal surface with fresh, smaller pores (6–9 per mm). Osteina altaiensis is characterized by a light mouse-grey-to-honey-yellow pileal surface, smaller pores (4–6 per mm), and slightly wide basidiospores (5–6 × 1.7–2.2 µm). Each of these five new species form independent lineages in phylogenetic analyses based on the seven gene loci (ITS + nLSU + nSSU + mtSSU + TEF1 + RPB1 + RPB2). This research enriches the diversity of brown-rot fungi species, while also demonstrating the substantial discovery potential and research value of brown-rot fungi in Xinjiang. Background: The skin sympathetic nerve activity (SKNA) is a new method to measure sympathetic nerve activity by using conventional ECG electrodes. We developed a novel approach to analyze the complexity of SKNA time series under different time scales and showed its prognostic significance in patients receiving critical care. Methods: This study measured SKNA in patients admitted to an intensive care unit (ICU). Each recording is 10-minute long with 10000Hz sampling rate. Multi-scale fluctuation analysis (MSFA) was developed to quantify the variation within each time scale after removing the linear trend. The prognostic value of SKNA was combined with traditional prognostics scoring system to improve the predictive values. Results: 155 patients were recruited. After 30 and 90 days, 30 and 48 patients expired. MSFA was significantly higher in survival group than mortality group for 30-day (0.487 ± 0.185 vs 0.401 ± 0.045, p = 0.018) and 90-day (0.499 ± 0.196 vs 0.414 ± 0.061, p = 0.001) follow-up. Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA) score was significantly lower in the survival group compared to the expired group for 30-day and 90-day (4.1 ± 2.9 vs. 5.5 ± 4.1, p = 0.032 and 3.9 ± 3.0 vs. 5.4 ± 3.5, p = 0.012). The Kaplan–Meier survival analysis showed MSFA lower than 0.401 (log-rank test:4.96, p = 0.03) or with SOFA score lower than 5 (log-rank test:5.49, p = 0.019) have a significantly higher mortality rate. A multivariate Cox regression model showed that the MSFA is an independent predictor for 30-day mortality (HR = 2.35, 1.08–5.09, p = 0.031) and 90-day mortality (HR = 1.96, 1.08–3.58, p = 0.027). Conclusion: MSFA was a significant prognostic predictor for critically ill patients. MSFA adding to SOFA score could help improve risk prediction.

Fomitopsis is a worldwide brown-rot fungal genus of Polyporales, which grows on different gymnosperm and angiosperm trees and has important ecological functions and economic values. In this study, species diversity, phylogenetic relationships, and ecological habits of Fomitopsis were investigated. A total of 195 specimens from 24 countries representing 29 species of Fomitopsis were studied. Based on the morphological characters and phylogenetic evidence of DNA sequences including the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) regions, the large subunit of nuclear ribosomal RNA gene (nLSU), the small subunit of nuclear ribosomal RNA gene (nSSU), the small subunit of mitochondrial rRNA gene (mtSSU), the translation elongation factor 1-α gene (TEF), and the second subunit of RNA polymerase II (RPB2), 30 species are accepted in Fomitopsis, including four new species: F. resupinata, F. srilankensis, F. submeliae and F. yimengensis. Illustrated descriptions of the novel species and the geographical locations of the Fomitopsis species are provided.

The layered van der Waals CuInP2S6 (CIPS) features interesting functional behaviors, including reversible ferroelectric polarization, Cu ion migration, negative capacitance effect, etc. Here, the CIPS flakes were exfoliated from the CVT-grown high-quality single crystals, which were fabricated into metal/CIPS/metal heterostructures by conventional photolithography. It was found that the CIPS flakes persisted in the dominant out-of-plane polarization and the minor in-plane polarization. Clear hysteresis current–voltage (I–V) loops, as well as the rectifying character, were revealed in metal/CIPS/metal heterostructures, indicating the potential application as a memory device. Additionally, the different metal electrode could significantly modulate the Schottky-like barrier at metal/CIPS interfaces, resulting in symmetric or asymmetric I–V loops. The complicated I–V curves may have originated from the voltage-induced Cu ion migration, reversible ferroelectric polarization, and carrier (ion) trapping/detrapping. This work may facilitate the metal electrode selection for the ferroelectric CIPS-based device application.
