This study examines the foremost concerns related to most noted research performance index. The most popular and widely acceptable h-index underestimates the highly visible scientist, the middle order group, due to citation distribution issues. The study addresses this issue and uses 'Corrected Quality Ratio' (CQ) to check the implicit underpinnings as evident in h-index. CQ helps to incorporate the aspects of a good research performance indicator. This simple revision performs more intimately and logically to gauge the broader research impact for all groups and highly visible scientists with less statistical error.

This study aims to understand the citation behavior of LIS research graduates in terms of their citation practices, citation motivation with the perceived quality and trustworthiness of cited sources. The paper endeavors to gain an insight into their citation behavior to gender, age, qualification, and publications. An online questionnaire survey was conducted in July 2020 to collect data from researchers who have been studying or completed their research degrees from the Institute of Information Management, University of the Punjab, Lahore-Pakistan. Data showed that almost half of the researchers published articles in journals. They preferred to cite: the most recent sources, articles written by reputable authors, highly cited sources, and articles which contain high-quality references. Researchers were motivated to cite open access and impact factor journals. There was no significant relationship between gender and any of the variables of citation behavior. However, only qualification affected the citation motivation of novice researchers. The findings may guide the policymakers about fund allocation to research projects. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose - This study reports the trends and practices of seeking online information sources of Science faculties of a university of developing country. The focus was to explore their trends and practices of accessing and using online sources in both modes, i.e. Open Access (OA) and Subscribed Access (SA) to meet their academic and research information. Design/methodology/approach - Quantitative design of research, based on a self-completion structured questionnaire survey was used. Surveyed population consisted of whole full time S&T teachers working in the 25 institutions/colleges/departments of all four S&T faculties viz. Sciences, Life Science, Engineering & Technology and Pharmacy of the University of the Punjab. Total response rate was 71% (156 out of 220 existed members). Frequency measure, descriptive statistics (mean ([mu]) and further, Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) were used to analyze, to interpret the data and to draw conclusions. Findings - The survey results report valuable information regarding the digital access culture of this community. Though these are not considered extremely important and nor, are fully exploiting. Yet both modes are playing important and complementing role in meeting the e-scholarly needs of this community. It also discloses that there is no significant difference exists regarding the importance, use of both modes and adequacy level of subscribed sources among faculties. Originality/value-Comparative analyses show no significant difference between the importance and use of these both modes in meeting the e-information. This study is the first account of the utilization of online modes by Science faculties of university. Various new performance evaluation indices for impact have been proposed and studied in various contexts. This study carried out a quantitative evaluation of the case of Malaysian engineering researchers at the micro level using a scientometric approach. In order to understand the behavior of new developments, a comparative performance evaluation is carried out of h-index, a set of h-type indices along with publication and citation metrics. Findings are compared with earlier major studies. We looked for institutional h-index and researchers’ h-index scores and did not find any relationship. Exploratory Factor Analysis is employed to examine the valid categorization and to study the underlying dimensions of the studied metrics and indices. The inter-correlation among h-index, its variants, and traditional metrics is probed in detail. The h, q and g-indices along with publication and citation hold the position on ‘quantity of the productive core’, while the R index showed equal loading on both cores. For the case of Malaysian engineering researchers, two conspicuous findings are observed about the total citation and g-index. These have association with the first component named as ‘quantity of the productive core.’ Our findings strengthen the point that citation count has a strong association with the ‘quantity of the productive core’ and cannot be used as sole impact evaluation measure. Quantity and quality of research publication productivity are the main areas of concern for the scientific community. The way of accountability of research performance evaluation has been changing with the advent of new metrics. The research performance evaluation clearly emphasizes on peer review approach. This approach possesses a central position in making an economic decision and monitoring of research and development programs of Higher Education Institutions. The combined use of various indicators is consistently recommended for Research Performance Evaluation (RPE). The study empirically examines and evaluates the feasibility of new RPE development by applying the h and h-type indices along with traditional metrics for the case of Malaysian Engineering Research at the meso level. This study helps in understanding the application of h and h-type indices and establishes that these indices are helpful in supporting and monitoring RPE and can be used along with traditional activity and impact metrics. The article examines the challenges and opportunities for library information service professionals in using Pakistan Higher Education Commission's National Digital Library (NDL) programme. It offers information on NDL, which aims to achieve higher education excellence that was started in February 2004. It adds that the databases used in NDL are focused on science and technology. It concludes the NDL offers numerous benefits for researchers, teachers, and the research and development community.
