Background: Radioresistance remains a significant obstacle in the treatment of prostate cancer (PCa). The mechanisms underlying the radioresistance in PCa remained to be further investigated. Methods: GSE53902 dataset was used in this study to identify radioresistance-related mRNAs. Protein-protein interaction (PPI) network was constructed based on STRING analysis. DAVID system was used to predict the potential roles of radioresistance-related mRNAs. Results: We screened and re-annotated the GSE53902 dataset to identify radioresistance-related mRNAs. A total of 445 up-regulated and 1036 down-regulated mRNAs were identified in radioresistance PCa cells. Three key PPI networks consisting of 81 proteins were further constructed in PCa. Bioinformatics analysis revealed that these genes were involved in regulating MAP kinase activity, response to hypoxia, regulation of the apoptotic process, mitotic nuclear division, and regulation of mRNA stability. Moreover, we observed that radioresistance-related mRNAs, such as PRC1, RAD54L, PIK3R3, ASB2, FBXO32, LPAR1, RNF14, and UBA7, were dysregulated and correlated to the survival time in PCa. Conclusion: We thought this study would be useful to understand the mechanisms underlying radioresistance of PCa and identify novel prognostic markers for PCa.

Background Role of leptin is well documented in cardiometabolic diseases. The objective of this study was to investigate if the serum levels of leptin associates with the serum levels of markers related to cardiac and metabolic disorders in adults. Materials and methods One hundred eighty subjects [120 cardiovascular disease (CVD) and 60 healthy controls] were enrolled in the study, to determine the association of the serum leptin (in quartiles) and cardiometabolic diseases [metabolic syndrome (MetS) and CVD] adjusted for other biological and physical examination. MetS was according to the WHO Clinical Criteria for MetS definition and CVD by angiography outcomes. The serum levels of leptin and OX-LDL were measured by ELISA. Results Leptin levels were significantly higher in patients with MetS and those with positive angiography compared with controls. After controlling for potential confounders, a significant association of the leptin levels with cardiometabolic diseases was proven, albeit there was a higher rate of significance between CVD and leptin in comparison with MetS. Additionally, receiver operating characteristic analysis revealed that the serum levels of leptin were a valuable biomarker of the cardiometabolic diseases. Conclusion Our findings demonstrate that serum leptin levels are associated with components of the MetS and with CVD. Serum leptin may be a useful biomarker for CVD.

Background and Aims: The cellular mechanisms responsible for initiating or limiting the tumors including skin types are of great importance. The p53 is a tumor-inhibiting gene which is believed to be defective in many malignant situations. Ki67 is a non-histonic protein which is mainly interfere with the proliferation and has many controlling effects during the cell cycle. Because of their importance in skin tumor cell growth, this study aimed at evaluating the p53 and Ki67 expression in skin epithelial tumors by immunohistochemical method. Materials and Methods: In a descriptive setting, 50 biopsy samples (30 basal cell carcinomas (BCCs), 10 squamous cell carcinomas (SCCs), 8 keratoacanthomas (KAs), and 2 trichoepitheliomas (TEs)) were immunohistochemically evaluated for p53 and Ki67 expression during a 14-month period. The incidence and expression rate of these two variables were separately reported in each group of samples. Results: The expression rate of p53 was 67.77% for the BCCs, 50.20% for the SCCs, and null for the KAs. For both TEs, it was 50%. The expression rate of Ki67 was 57.33% for the BCCs, 47.70% for the SCCs, 37.5% for the KAs, and 0.0% for TEs. The incidence of P53+ cells was 100% and 90% in the BCC and SCC samples, respectively. The both TEs were positive in this regard. The incidence of Ki67+ cells was 100% for the BCC, SCC, and KA samples. The both TEs were negative in this regard. Conclusion: This study showed that the incidence rate of p53- and Ki67-positive cells is very high in skin malignant epithelial tumors. The expression rate of these two variables is comparable with reports in the literature. Further studies with large sample size are recommended to be carried out for KA and TE samples.

The formation constants of species formed in the systems H+ + Mo(VI) + aspartic acid and H+ + aspartic acid have been determined in aqueous solution for 4 ≤ pH ≤ 9 at 25 °C and different ionic strengths ranging from (0.1 to 0.8) mol dm-3 (NaClO4), using polarimetric, spectrophotometric, and potentiometric techniques. The composition of the complex was determined by the continuous variations method. It was shown that molybdenum(VI) forms a mononuclear 1:1 complex with aspartic acid of the type MoO3L-2 at pH = 5.8. The dependence of the protonation of aspartic acid and the stability constant of the complex on ionic strength is described by a Debye−Huckel-type equation, and finally the results have been compared with data previously reported.
