The precision of the luting protocol plays a crucial role in the success and survival rate of porcelain laminate veneers (PLVs). This in vitro study aimed to evaluate the influence of different luting techniques on the positioning of PLVs through a novel, noninvasive, scanning-based technique. A total of 45 ceramic PLVs were milled and cemented on human tooth replicas. Specimens were divided into three groups of 15, each subjected to a different luting protocol: flowable composite (Group A), dual-cure resin cement (Group B), and preheated composite resin (Group C). After luting procedures, specimens were scanned, and every STL file was superimposed with the original tooth design in Geomagic Control X version 2022.1 software to assess linear (incisal, mid, cervical) and angular discrepancies. Statistical analysis was performed using one-way ANOVA, Tukey’s HSD tests, and regression analysis. ANOVA results showed no statistically significant differences for incisal (F = 0.327, p = 0.723), mid (F = 0.287, p = 0.752), cervical (F = 0.191, p = 0.827), and angular (F = 0.026, p = 0.975) measurements. Tukey’s HSD post hoc tests confirmed the lack of significant pairwise differences between groups. The study demonstrated that the type of luting agent used does not significantly impact the final position of PLVs. This suggests flexibility in the choice of luting agents without compromising the accuracy of PLV placement.

Purpose This research aims to evaluate adaptive physical education learning in deaf students at special elementary schools. Methods This study employs an evaluation model approach to assess the efficacy of adaptive physical education instruction. Specifically, this research utilizes the CIPP (Context, Input, Process, and Product) model for evaluation. The participants in this study were teachers who taught physical education in West Sumatra, with a sample size of 60 teachers in West Sumatra, Indonesia. Data collection was carried out using a research instrument in the form of a questionnaire administered via Google Forms. The results showed that all statement items of the questionnaire were valid for reliability testing. Results The results of this research showed that the evaluation using the context and input components of the CIPP scored 74.32% and 70.71%, respectively, indicating both as good. However, the process and product aspects attained a score of 50.83% and 48.10% indicating them as enough. Conclusions This research concluded that the implementation of adaptive physical education learning for deaf students was good. Based on the results, this research recommends that evaluations be conducted at the school level for students with special needs. Additionally, evaluation is also needed using participants involved in education.

Abstract Background Positional plagiocephaly is an asymmetrical flattened skull deformity whose incidence increased significantly in the last decades. Osteopathic treatment has been suggested to tackle early deformational sequences, in order to ensure the correct development of the child. The aim of the study was to assess the effectiveness of osteopathic treatment of positional cranial deformities in infants. Methods Retrospective observational study carried out at the Section of Neonatology and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of the Department of Interdisciplinary Medicine of University of Bari, Italy in collaboration with a specialized pediatric osteopath. Results 424 infants were enrolled. Isolated positional plagiocephaly affected the vast majority of infants (n. 390, 91.98%); 34 patients (8.02%) were diagnosed with positional brachycephaly. Both infant groups (positional plagiocephaly and positional brachycephaly) had a median severity score of 3 (IQR: 3 – 3 and 2 – 3, respectively) and benefited from a median of 3 osteopathic sessions (IQR 3–4 and 2–4, respectively). Higher severity scores of positional asymmetries were significantly more common in preterm neonates (Pearson chi2: 11.58; p-value: 0.021) and in males (Pearson chi2: 10.06; p-value: 0.039). Conclusions Significant improvements in positional cranial deformations of children were obtained after only five osteopathic treatments provided in the first months of life. The osteopathic treatment could positively impact the clinical history of patients with positional plagiocephaly and positional brachycephaly. Implication for practice • Positional plagiocephaly is increasingly common among infants and may cause moderate to severe neurodevelopmental adverse effects. • Osteopathic treatment may tackle early deformational sequences, in order to ensure the correct development of the child. • Our study reveals that cranial asymmetry of infants with positional plagiocephaly is significantly reduced after only five osteopathic treatments provided in the first months of life. • Osteopathic treatment should be offered as a first line approach to young infants diagnosed with positional plagiocephaly.

Physical activity during the developmental age is an indispensable tool for the physical and mental growth of children. Thanks to physical activity, individuals have the opportunity to improve their physical efficiency and promote better health, establish relationships with the environment and with others, and develop cognitive processes. Therefore, the aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between physical activity and the development of scholastic prerequisites among kindergarten children. 52 children (aged 4–5) participated in either a classroom-based physical activity program (60′/3 days per week) or regular lessons. At the beginning and end of the intervention programs, a set of standardized motor evaluation tests and the Observational Questionnaire for the Early Identification of Learning Disabilities (IPDA) were administered. As a result, a meaningful Time x Group interaction for the IPDA Variable was observed. The aforementioned development denotes a noteworthy advancement within the treatment group (p < 0.001). Conversely, no substantial modification was noted in the control group. The findings derived from this study provide a foundational support to the concept that physical activity integrated into classroom settings is an effective strategy to improve both scholastic prerequisites and academic performance.

Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL) is an indolent malignancy characterized by the accumulation of quiescent mature B cells. However, these cells are transcriptionally and translationally active, implicating an active metabolism. The recent literature suggests that CLL cells have an oxidative-type phenotype. Given the role of cell metabolism, which is able to influence the outcome of treatments, in other neoplasms, we aimed to assess its prognostic role in CLL patients by determining the ex vivo bioenergetic metabolic profile of CLL cells, evaluating the correlation with the patient clinical/biological characteristics and the in vivo response to BTK inhibitor treatment. Clustering analysis of primary samples identified two groups, characterized by low (CLL low) or high (CLL high) bioenergetic metabolic rates. Compared to the CLL high, CLL with lower bioenergetic metabolic rates belonged to patients characterized by a statistically significant higher white blood cell count and by unfavorable molecular genetics. More importantly, patients in the CLL low cluster displayed a better and more durable response to the BTK inhibitor ibrutinib, thus defining a bioenergetic metabolic subgroup that can benefit the most from this therapy.

Respiratory diseases, including respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infections, are common reasons for seeking healthcare among refugees and asylum seekers. A systematic review with meta-analysis was designed to appraise all the available evidence on RSV infections among individuals in refugee camps. Three medical databases (PubMed, Embase, and Scopus) as well as the preprint repository medRxiv.org were searched for eligible observational studies, and the collected cases were pooled in a random-effects meta-analysis model. Heterogeneity was assessed using the I2 statistics. Funnel plots and a regression analysis were calculated for analyzing reporting bias. Eventually, six studies were retrieved from three areas (Bangladesh, Thailand, and Kenya), with pooled estimates of 129.704 cases per 1000 samples (95% CI 66.393 to 237.986) for RSV compared to 110.287 per 1000 people for influenza A (95% CI 73.186 to 162.889), 136.398 cases per 1000 people (95% CI 84.510 to 212.741) for human adenovirus (HAdV), 69.553 per 1000 people (95% CI 49.802 to 96.343) for parainfluenzavirus (PIFV), and 60.338 per 1000 people (95% CI 31.933 to 111.109) for human metapneumovirus (hMPV). Using influenza A as a reference group, the risk for a positive specimen was greater for RSV (relative risk [RR] 1.514, 95% CI 1.396 to 1.641) and HAdV (RR 1.984, 95% CI 1.834 to 2.146) and lower for influenza B (RR 0.276, 95% CI: 0.239 to 0.319), PIFV (RR: 0.889, 95% CI 0.806 to 0.981), and hMPV (RR 0.594, 95% CI 0.534 to 0.662). In summary, high rates of RSV infections were documented among individuals sheltered in refugee camps, stressing the importance of specifically designed preventive strategies.

Multiple Myeloma is a hematological neoplasm that, over the recent few years, has benefited from numerous therapeutic options. Among the latter, CAR-T stands out as the most recent and one of the most promising treatments currently available. Despite its recent introduction, multiple CAR-T products have already been approved, and research regarding cellular therapy is rapidly increasing. We conducted a comprehensive search and review of the available literature, including published studies and abstracts from recent meetings (ASH, ASCO, ASTCT, IMS), regarding Multiple Myeloma and CAR-T therapy. We describe the discovery and research regarding promising targets like the B-Cell Maturation Antigen (BCMA) and others, the origin and nature of CAR-T cells, and the recent introduction of anti-BCMA CAR-Ts Idecabtagene-vicleucel and Ciltacabtagene-autoleucel, which are currently the only approved CAR-T products for MM. Additionally, we discuss non-BCMA-targeting CAR-Ts and their clinical implications. Given the significant impact of cellular therapy, we provide an overview of its limitations and possible adverse implications, as well as related resistance mechanisms. Finally, we describe the current research aimed at improving CAR-T therapy in MM, including structural innovations and new therapeutic approaches, such as in the earlier lines of treatment and maintenance therapy.

Urology is one of the most competitive specialties in medicine, creating a challenge for prospective students looking to secure a residency position. Our study aims to assess online interest in urology residency by querying online interaction with search terms and criteria for urology residency programs. Utilizing Google Trends analysis from 2011 to 2024, this study examined urology-related search volume indexes, as well as temporal and geographical patterns. Furthermore, the number of residency positions from the American Urological Association database for the 2022 match process was evaluated. Our analysis of temporal trends revealed increased interest in urologist salaries from 2011 to 2019, followed by a decline from 2019 to 2023. Interest in urology-related interviews, applications, research, and letters increased in 2019, marked by the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. California, New York, and Texas had the lowest interest-to-position (IP) ratio, while Maryland, New Jersey, and Virginia had the highest IP ratio. Our analysis reveals an evolving interest in salaries, residency programs, and USMLE Step 1 changes in areas connected with urology. We report key geographical areas with high urology residency interest and low numbers of programs, implying a need for expanded residencies in underserved yet high-interest areas. Awareness and continued interest monitoring after the COVID-19 pandemic is critical for understanding interest in urology applicants.

Background: Muscle-invasive bladder cancer (MIBC) is a potentially fatal disease, especially in the setting of locally advanced or node-positive disease. Adverse outcomes have also primarily been associated with low-income status, as has been reported in other cancers. While the adoption of neoadjuvant cisplatin-based chemotherapy (NAC) followed by radical cystectomy (RC) and pelvic lymph node dissection (PLND) has improved outcomes, these standard-of-care treatments may be underutilized in lower-income patients. We sought to investigate the economic disparities in NAC and PLND receipt and survival outcomes in MIBC. Methods: Utilizing the National Cancer Database, a retrospective cohort analysis of cT2-4N0-3M0 BCa patients with urothelial histology who underwent RC was conducted. The impact of income level on overall survival (OS) and the likelihood of receiving NAC and PLND was evaluated. Results: A total of 25,823 patients were included. This study found that lower-income patients were less likely to receive NAC and adequate PLND (≥15 LNs). Moreover, lower-income patients exhibited worse OS (Median OS 55.9 months vs. 68.2 months, p < 0.001). Our findings also demonstrated that higher income, treatment at academic facilities, and recent years of diagnosis were associated with an increased likelihood of receiving standard-of-care modalities and improved survival. Conclusions: Even after controlling for clinicodemographic variables, income independently influenced the receipt of standard MIBC treatments and survival. Our findings identify an opportunity to improve the quality of care for lower-income MIBC patients through concerted efforts to regionalize multi-modal urologic oncology care.

Abstract Magnetic Josephson junctions (MJJs) have emerged as a prominent playground to explore the interplay between superconductivity and ferromagnetism. A series of fascinating experiments have revealed striking phenomena at the superconductor/ferromagnet (S/F) interface, pointing to tunable phase transitions and to the generation of unconventional spin-triplet correlations. Here, we show that the Josephson effect, being sensitive to phase space variation on the nanoscale, allows a direct observation of the spin polarization of the S/F interface. By measuring the temperature dependence of the Josephson magnetic field patterns of tunnel MJJs with strong and thin F-layer, we demonstrate an induced nanoscale spin order in S along the superconducting coherence length at S/F interface, i.e., the inverse proximity effect, with the first evidence of full spin screening at very low temperatures, as expected by the theory. A comprehensive phase diagram for spin nanoscale ordering regimes at S/F interfaces in MJJs has been derived in terms of the magnetic moment induced in the S-layer. Our findings contribute to drive the design and the tailoring of S/F interfaces also in view of potential applications in quantum computing.

Schools represent the ideal setting for educating children about the acquisition of active lifestyles seen not only from a health point of view but also from psycho-pedagogical and social perspectives. Based on evidence from scientific literature, there is a need to include physical activity in school routines, especially in primary schools, where the habits learned by children stay with them in their later years and adulthood. With the support of the school medicine service, schools become a favorable context for planning health education sessions aimed at students, with particular reference to prevention. Within teaching, it is necessary to consider the motor area as a fundamental tool for acquiring correct lifestyles, facilitating cognitive development, inclusiveness, and psycho-emotional and socio-relational factors. Schools can play a fundamental role, becoming the key to promoting physical activity at different times of the day, such as during class hours (with active breaks), during breaks, before and after lessons, and by integrating movement into teaching. This review is the result of an in-depth overview of the available literature on the relationship of schools with health and health promotion from a preventive perspective, with awareness of how the issue is being approached and the need for further future reflections that will go hand in hand with the coming changes.

This retrospective cohort study evaluated the effectiveness of maternal vaccination against COVID-19 in reducing the risk of SARS-CoV-2 infection in infants younger than 12 months. The study, conducted at the “Policlinico” University Hospital of Bari, included 3346 newborns and their mothers. The study explored the degree of protection offered by maternal vaccination depending on the timing, type, and trimester of vaccination, also taking into account the mother’s history of infection. We compared the incidence rate of infection between children of vaccinated and unvaccinated mothers; the values were 10.2% and 18.1%, respectively, and the difference was statistically significant. The overall effectiveness of the vaccine against the infection was 45%. Further analysis revealed increasing efficacy as the doses of vaccine administered to the mother increased and in case of a previous history of maternal infection. Dual immune stimulation (vaccination and natural infection) was 83% effective in preventing infection among newborns. The multivariable models confirmed the protective effect of vaccination with all types of vaccines used. The analysis of infection’s incidence in newborns revealed an interesting temporal trend, with increasing incidence with time, suggesting a possible correlation with the persistence of maternal antibodies or with the gradual weaning. The results on the protective capacity of vaccines are in line with the global literature. Strengths of study include sample size, robust methodology, and multivariate analyses. Institutions could intensify awareness campaigns to encourage both pregnant women and all those who would like to become pregnant to receive SARS-CoV-2 vaccination.

Two vaccines are available to prevent serogroup B meningococcal disease, i.e. the four-component meningococcal serogroup B vaccine (4CMenB) and the bivalent-factor-H-binding-protein meningococcal serogroup B vaccine (MenB-fHbp). Currently, 4CMenB is offered as part of routine infant immunization schedules. Available immunogenicity data showed a progressive decline in protective serum bactericidal antibodies (SBA) titers, with a re-enhancement following a booster dose during infancy. Responses did not seem to be long-lasting and vaccinated individuals might be at risk of meningococcal diseases duriṇg adolescence. Only one study evaluated the possibility to administer a single booster dose to immunocompetent adolescents who received a primary series during infancy. Despite a high proportion of enrollees achieving protective SBA levels 28 days post-booster, titers tended to decrease 1 year after. Immunocompetent adolescents who received a primary series and a booster during the first two years of life might rather benefit from re-vaccination against MenB; current evidence does not support the possibility of a booster.

ABSTRACTVaccination is the principal strategy for primary prevention of infection by Human Papilloma Virus (HPV), which causes different pathological conditions, up to cancer, in both males and females. However, to date, knowledge among adolescents and their parents about the HPV vaccine is still low. The aim of this quasi-experimental, multicenter study is to assess the effectiveness of a digital educational intervention, conducted by a multidisciplinary health-care team including a Community Nurse, to increase adolescents’ HPV vaccination uptake, their knowledge, self-efficacy, feelings and involvement in HPV vaccine decision-making, and parents’ vaccination hesitancy. The study will be carried out among a population of students (and their parents), aged between 11 and 13, at secondary schools in Italy. Validated questionnaires will be administered to both students and parents at baseline (T0) and 3 months after a digital educational intervention (T1). The findings may be useful in evaluating and deepening a methodology for designing and implementing educational interventions, embedded in the school setting, that could promote the achievement of outcomes within the broader process of youth’s health promotion.

The article examines a pedagogical intervention that was put into practice with students who faced exclusion from Physical Education classes because of their inadequate conduct in school. We conducted an experiment utilizing the Sport Education model as a means to combat indiscipline in a public educational institution. The primary goal of the research was to identify and comprehend potential modifications in the attitudes of students who were considered undisciplined. The study was grounded in action research principles and employed the focus group and questionnaire as data collection instruments. Sport Education holds the potential to facilitate a critical understanding and adoption of physical activity. The use of collective work as a pedagogical strategy may serve as an alternative approach to improve student behaviour, as long as mediation is implemented alongside the restoration of emotional connections between teachers and students. The issue of indiscipline remains complex and poses a challenge for educators. However, it is imperative to address the problem of excluding students from Physical Education classes due to disciplinary reasons.

The analysis of gait kinematics requires to encode and collapse multidimensional information from multiple anatomical elements. In this study, we address this issue by analyzing the joints' coordination during gait, borrowing from the framework of network theory. We recruited twenty-three patients with Parkinson's disease and twenty-three matched controls that were recorded during linear gait using a stereophotogrammetric motion analysis system. The three-dimensional angular velocity of the joints was used to build a kinematic network for each participant, and both global (average whole-body synchronization) and nodal (individual joint synchronization, i.e., nodal strength) were extracted. By comparing the two groups, the results showed lower coordination in patients, both at global and nodal levels (neck, shoulders, elbows, and hips). Furthermore, the nodal strength of the left elbow and right hip in the patients, as well as the average joints' nodal strength were significantly correlated with the clinical motor condition and were predictive of it. Our study highlights the importance of integrating whole-body information in kinematic analyses and the advantages of using network theory. Finally, the identification of altered network properties of specific joints, and their relationship with the motor impairment in the patients, suggests a potential clinical relevance for our approach.

Pertussis is a vaccine-preventable respiratory disease. Pertussis vaccination is currently mandatory for all children in Italy, and is administered in three doses at the beginning of the third, fifth, and twelfth month of life, respectively. Booster doses are also recommended at five-six years, at eleven-twelve years, and then once every ten years. Healthcare workers (HCWs) are a high-risk population for pertussis. Strategies to increase HCWs’ compliance to this vaccination have not been investigated in depth. Our study investigates the determinants of acceptance of a “soft nudge” vaccination campaign in a large hospital in Apulia (Southern Italy).HCWs from the Gynaecology and Neonatology Units of Bari’s Policlinico General Hospital were screened in June 2023 for pertussis vaccination. Non-vaccinated subjects were offered a vaccination appointment. Vaccination determinants were studied, and a logistic regression model was built to identify determinants that significantly influence vaccination acceptance.At the time of screening, only 31.34% of target HCWs (68/217) had already been vaccinated. After the active call intervention, vaccine coverage rose to 70.00% (152/217). Significantly higher coverage was found in the Neonatology Unit (30/43, 69.77%) than in the Gynaecology unit (54/106, 50.94%) (Chi2: 4.41; p-value: 0.036). A logistic regression model confirmed a higher compliance to vaccination in HCWs staffed in the Neonatology Unit (Chi2: 2.08; 95%CI: 1.04 – 4.73; p-value: 0.038).Our intervention increased vaccination coverage in a high-risk cohort. The solicitation was effective, as communication with a trained specialist might have improved the subjects’ perception of vaccination and individual risk of contagion and transmission to others. A synergistic approach, mixing active call with a vaccination mandate, might have greater effectiveness.

Objective: To investigate the therapeutic and prophylactic use of antibiotics in dentistry in two countries. Methods: This study used questionnaires to examine the prescribing habits of dentists in Italy (9th country in Europe for systemic antibiotic administration) and Albania an Extra European Union Country. A total of 1300 questionnaires were sent to Italian and Albanian dentists. Results: In total, 180 Italian and 180 Albanian dentists completed the questionnaire. Penicillin use was higher in Italy (96.6 %) than Albania (82.8 %). Only 26.1 % of Italian dentists and 32 % of Albanian dentists followed the national guidelines for antibiotic administration. Conclusions: Dentists tend to overprescribe antibiotics for treating existing conditions or as prophylaxis. They also highlighted a lack of adherence to established guidelines for antibiotic use. In addition, factors such as age, nationality, and sex appeared to influence the choice of antibiotics. Clinical significance: Recently, the growth of antibiotic-resistant bacteria has become a global concern. The authors of this article highlight how dentists often prescribe antibiotics without a real need. Limiting the use of antibiotics in this category may help mitigate antibiotic resistance.

Foreign language acquisition within a highly interconnected context such as Europe is a complex challenge that can be influenced by many variables. This article presents TRIP a-Bike, an innovative didactic device designed to facilitate foreign language teaching for professionals and university students that combines artificial intelligence (AI) and gamification with an embodied based approach. TRIP a-Bike consists of an App for smartphones that integrates didactics with a video game, which in addition to offering the possibility of remote use, can be connected to a bicycle fixed to the ground and an LCD screen via a smartphone holder placed on the vehicle’s handlebar and a switch. Through physical interaction with the bicycle and the virtual environment, students can learn a new language in a dynamic and experiential way, while the AI generates customized content and activities based on their progress. The paper discusses the potential benefits of integrating AI and embodied theories and highlights how this system could represent an innovative and multidisciplinary educational research space. TRIP a-Bike: un nuovo sistema per insegnare le lingue tra corpo ed intelligenza artificiale. L’acquisizione di una lingua straniera all’interno di un contesto altamente interconnesso quale quello europeo, rappresenta una sfida complessa che può essere influenzata da tante variabili. Questo articolo presenta TRIP a-Bike, un dispositivo didattico innovativo pensato per facilitare l’insegnamento delle lingue straniere ai professionisti e agli studenti universitari che combina l’intelligenza artificiale (IA) e la gamification con un approccio embodied based. TRIP a-Bike consiste in un App per smartphone che integra la didattica ad un videogame, che oltre ad offrire la possibilità di utilizzo da remoto, può essere collegata a una bicicletta fissata al suolo e a uno schermo LCD mediante un supporto per smartphone posto sul manubrio del veicolo ed uno switch. Attraverso l’interazione fisica con la bicicletta e l’ambiente virtuale, gli studenti possono apprendere una nuova lingua in modo dinamico ed esperienziale, mentre l’IA genera contenuti e attività personalizzate in base ai loro progressi. L’articolo discute i potenziali benefici dell’integrazione tra IA ed embodied theories e sottolinea come questo sistema possa rappresentare uno spazio di ricerca didattico innovativo e multidisciplinare.

IntroductionPathogenesis of cutaneous leishmaniases involves parasite growth, persistent inflammation, and likely participation of lipoproteins (LP). The cholesteryl ester transfer protein (CETP), involved in LP remodeling, has been shown to participate in the inflammatory response and the evolution of infectious conditions. MethodsWe evaluated the impact of the presence of CETP on infection by Leishmania (L.) amazonensis in an experimental model of cutaneous leishmaniasis using C57BL6/J mice transgenic for human CETP (CETP), having as control their littermates that do not express the protein, wild-type (WT) mice. The progression of the lesion after infection in the footpad was monitored for 12 weeks. Two groups of animals were formed to collect the plantar pad in the 4th and 12th week post-infection. ResultsThe lesion increased from the 3rd week onwards, in both groups, with a gradual decrease from the 10th week onwards in the CETP group compared to the WT group, showing a reduction in parasitism and an improvement in the healing process, a reduction in CD68+ cells, and an increase in CD163+ and CD206, characterizing a population of M2 macrophages. A reduction in ARG1+ cells and an increase in INOS+ cells were observed. During infection, the LP profile showed an increase in triglycerides in the VLDL fraction in the CETP group at 12 weeks. Gene expression revealed a decrease in the CD36 receptor in the CETP group at 12 weeks, correlating with healing and parasite reduction. In vitro, macrophages derived from bone marrow cells from CETP mice showed lower parasite load at 48 h and, a reduction in arginase activity at 4 h accompanied by increased NO production at 4 and 24 h compared to WT macrophages, corroborating the in vivo findings.DiscussionThe data indicate that the presence of CETP plays an important role in resolving Leishmania (L.) amazonensis infection, reducing parasitism, and modulating the inflammatory response in controlling infection and tissue repair.

Abstract Three-dimensional motion analysis represents a quantitative approach to assess spatio-temporal and kinematic changes in health and disease. However, these parameters provide only segmental information, discarding minor changes of complex whole body kinematics characterizing physiological and/or pathological conditions. We aimed to assess how levodopa intake affects the whole body, analyzing the kinematic interactions during gait in Parkinson’s disease (PD) through network theory which assess the relationships between elements of a system. To this end, we analysed gait data of 23 people with PD applying network theory to the acceleration kinematic data of 21 markers placed on participants’ body landmarks. We obtained a matrix of kinematic interactions (i.e., the kinectome) for each participant, before and after the levodopa intake, we performed a topological analysis to evaluate the large-scale interactions among body elements, and a multilinear regression analysis to verify whether the kinectome’s topology could predict the clinical variations induced by levodopa. We found that, following levodopa intake, patients with PD showed less trunk and head synchronization (p-head = 0.048; p-7th cervical vertebrae = 0.032; p-10th thoracic vertebrae = 0.006) and an improved upper-lower limbs synchronization (elbows right, p = 0.002; left, p = 0.005), (wrists right, p = 0.003; left, p = 0.002; knees right, p = 0.003; left, p = 0.039) proportional to the UPDRS-III scores. These results may be attributable to the reduction of rigidity, following pharmacological treatment.
