Background and Aims: Bacteria and their products have a major role in pulp and periapical diseases. The purpose of this study was to compare the antimicrobial activity of sodium hypochlorite, iodide potassium iodide and chlorhexidine on the enterococcus faecalis after root canal filling. Materials and Methods: In this experimental study, 95 single canal human teeth were collected. Then after washing and cleaning and filing, the sterilization done using an autoclave. The teeth were smeared with enterococcus faecalis except five which selected as controls and then divided them into 3 groups which A randomly represented the irrigation by sodium hypochlorite, iodide potassium iodide (IKI) and chlorhexidine solution were done. The teeth were filled with gutta-percha and then incubated in a incubator for 90 days at a temperature of 37° C. The specimens were analyzed for Colony Count. Data were analyzed using Kruskal-Wallis test and Chi-Square. Results: According to the results of this study, the correlation between the 3 groups of cultured teeth were not significant (P=0.812).The specimens which were washed by IKI had the most positive amount of cultures (23.3%) and the specimens which washed by chlorhexidine had the lowest (16.7%). Conclusion: The results of this study showed that after the use of different wash solutions, no statistically significant difference exist in their antimicrobial activity after root canal therapy.

Heavy neutral leptons (HNLs) are often among the hypothetical ingredients behind nonzero neutrino masses. If sufficiently light, they can be produced and detected in fixed-target-like experiments. We show that if the HNLs belong to a richer-but rather generic-dark sector, their production mechanism can deviate dramatically from expectations associated with the standard-model weak interactions. In more detail, we postulate that the dark sector contains an axionlike particle (ALP) that naturally decays into HNLs. Since ALPs mix with the pseudoscalar hadrons, the HNL flux might be predominantly associated with the production of neutral mesons (e.g., π^{0}, η) as opposed to charge hadrons (e.g., π^{±}, K^{±}). In this case, the physics responsible for HNL production and decay are not directly related and experiments like DUNE might be sensitive to HNLs that are too weakly coupled to the standard model to be produced via weak interactions, as is generically the case of HNLs that play a direct role in the type-I seesaw mechanism.

The Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak has created many concerns in most countries. Nurses are among healthcare workers who are largely engaged in providing care to COVID-19 patients, which makes nurses prone to disease-related worries and stresses. Thus, it is essential to identify the factors which may alleviate their stress and anxiety. This study aimed to determine the relationship between COVID-19 anxiety and spiritual health among Iranian nurses. This cross-sectional online survey was conducted between March 2020 and January 2021 on 919 Iranian nurses who worked in healthcare centers in Iran during the COVID-19 outbreak. The participants were recruited by convenience sampling Method. The data were collected using a demographic questionnaire, Ellison's standard Spiritual Well-Being (SWB) Scale, and the standard scale of Corona Disease Anxiety. Data were analyzed using SPSS software and p-value less than 0.05 was considered significant. Of the participants, 47.0% (95% confidence interval (CI) 43.7-50.2%) had moderate to severe anxiety. The mean score of spiritual health was 73.3 ± 12.5. The multiple linear model indicated a significant negative correlation with a medium effect size between SWB and COVID-19 anxiety levels in a way that for 10 units increase in the SWB was associated with 2.72 units decrease in anxiety score (Adjusted partial r = - 0.320, p < 0.001). The findings revealed a reverse significant relationship between spiritual health and COVID-19 anxiety. On the other hand, nurses with better spiritual health experienced a lower level of COVID-19 anxiety. Background: Acute ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) is a leading cause of mortality and morbidity worldwide, and primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) is the preferred treatment option., Hypothesis: Machine learning (ML) models have the potential to predict adverse clinical outcomes in STEMI patients treated with primary PCI. However, the comparative performance of different ML models for this purpose is unclear., Methods: This study used a retrospective registry-based design to recruit consecutive hospitalized patients diagnosed with acute STEMI and treated with primary PCI from 2011 to 2019, at Tehran Heart Center, Tehran, Iran. Four ML models, namely Gradient Boosting Machine (GBM), Distributed Random Forest (DRF), Logistic Regression (LR), and Deep Learning (DL), were used to predict major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) during 1-year follow-up., Results: A total of 4514 patients (3498 men and 1016 women) were enrolled, with MACE occurring in 610 (13.5%) subjects during follow-up. The mean age of the population was 62.1 years, and the MACE group was significantly older than the non-MACE group (66.2 vs. 61.5 years, p < .001). The learning process utilized 70% (n = 3160) of the total population, and the remaining 30% (n = 1354) served as the testing data set. DRF and GBM models demonstrated the best performance in predicting MACE, with an area under the curve of 0.92 and 0.91, respectively., Conclusion: ML-based models, such as DRF and GBM, can effectively identify high-risk STEMI patients for adverse events during follow-up. These models can be useful for personalized treatment strategies, ultimately improving clinical outcomes and reducing the burden of disease., (© 2023 The Authors. Toxoplasma gondii is the protozoan causative agent of toxoplasmosis in humans and warm-blooded animals. Recent studies have illustrated that the immune system plays a pivotal role in the pathogenesis of toxoplasmosis by triggering immune cytokines like IL-12, TNF-α, and IFN-γ and immune cells like DCs, Th1, and Th17. On the other hand, some immune components can serve as prognosis markers of toxoplasmosis. In healthy people, the disease is often asymptomatic, but immunocompromised people and newborns may suffer severe symptoms and complications. Therefore, the immune prognostic markers may provide tools to measure the disease progress and help patients to avoid further complications. Immunotherapies using monoclonal antibody, cytokines, immune cells, exosomes, novel vaccines, and anti-inflammatory molecules open new horizon for toxoplasmosis treatment. Lymphangiomas are benign lesions of vascular origin with lymphatic differentiation, most commonly found in the head and neck. Generalized lymphangiomatosis is a very rare condition in adults, which is characterized by a diffuse proliferation of lymphatic vessels. The lymphangioma is composed of lymphatic endothelium-lined cystic spaces. This condition can be histologically differentiated from other vascular disorders such as cavernous or capillary hemangioma. However, many cases of lymphangioma can be confused with other vascular disorders, because of overlapping histologic findings. radiologic examinations, such as CT scan and MR imaging, are useful for assessing the morphologic feature and also the extent of disease, it is important to know the radiologic findings of generalized lymphangiomatosis. In this paper, we report a case of generalized lymphangiomatosis in a 42-year-old male who presented with left flank pain and hematuria. The first differential diagnosis was renal colic; hence he underwent an abdominopelvic computed tomography scan (CT scan). In the performed CT scan multiple cystic lesions were seen in the liver and spleen. Also, lytic lesions were seen in bones. CT-guided biopsy was performed and the result was compatible with generalized lymphangiomatosis, confirmed by cytology. Generalized lymphangiomatosis is a rarely reported disease in children and young adults. Delayed diagnosis in older patients or misdiagnosis is common due to its rarity and nonspecific clinical presentation. Different imaging modalities can incidentally diagnose the disease in asymptomatic patients. So radiologists should be aware of the disease manifestations in imaging modalities to diagnose the disease sooner and help the clinician start the therapy if needed., (© 2023 The Authors. Neutrophils are the most abundant leukocyte in circulation and are the first line of defense after an infection or injury. Neutrophils have a broad spectrum of functions, including phagocytosis of microorganisms, the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines and chemokines, oxidative burst, and the formation of neutrophil extracellular traps. Traditionally, neutrophils were thought to be most important for acute inflammatory responses, with a short half-life and a more static response to infections and injury. However, this view has changed in recent years showing neutrophil heterogeneity and dynamics, indicating a much more regulated and flexible response. Here we will discuss the role of neutrophils in aging and neurological disorders; specifically, we focus on recent data indicating the impact of neutrophils in chronic inflammatory processes and their contribution to neurological diseases. Lastly, we aim to conclude that reactive neutrophils directly contribute to increased vascular inflammation and age-related diseases.

Chest radiographs (CXR) are the most performed imaging tests and rank high among the radiographic exams with suboptimal quality and high rejection rates. Suboptimal CXRs can cause delays in patient care and pitfalls in radiographic interpretation, given their ubiquitous use in the diagnosis and management of acute and chronic ailments. Suboptimal CXRs can also compound and lead to high inter-radiologist variations in CXR interpretation. While advances in radiography with transitions to computerized and digital radiography have reduced the prevalence of suboptimal exams, the problem persists. Advances in machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI), particularly in the radiographic acquisition, triage, and interpretation of CXRs, could offer a plausible solution for suboptimal CXRs. We review the literature on suboptimal CXRs and the potential use of AI to help reduce the prevalence of suboptimal CXRs.

Background and Aims: Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by language impairment, and challenges with social interaction, communication, and repetitive behaviors. Although genetics are a primary cause of ASD, the exact genes and molecular mechanisms involved in its pathogenesis are not completely clear. The FOXP2 gene encodes a transcription factor that is known for its major role in language development and severe speech problems. The present study aimed to evaluate the role of FOXP2 in ASD etiology, executive functions, and brain activities., Methods: In the present study, we recruited 450 children with ASD and 490 neurotypical control children. Three domains of executive functions (working memory, response inhibition, and vigilance) were assessed. In addition, five-minute eyes closed electroencephalography was obtained from some of the children with ASD and neurotypical children. DNA sequence and expression level of FOXP2 in blood samples of children with ASD and the control group were evaluated by using sequencing and Real-time PCR, respectively., Results: The results showed no mutations but a significant down expression of FOXP2 genes in children with ASD vs. neurotypical children. Several cognitive and executive function deficiencies were detected in children with ASD. Low alpha and gamma bands in the frontal lobe and high theta bands in the occipital lobe were revealed in children with ASD. We also found several correlations between FOXP2 expression levels and clinical assessments., Conclusions: Our finding revealed the down expression of FOXP2, which could be considered as a biomarker for ASD as well as cognitive and executive dysfunction. Based on brain mapping data, FOXP2 may be related to the theta wave abnormality of children with ASD. Synovial sarcoma (SS) occurs in various parts of the body, predominantly in the extremities. It also occurs in organs without synovial structures. The intracranial disease has been reported as metastasis, but primary intracranial SS has been reported rarely. We report a patient with hemiplegia and a mass on the brain CT. Background. Aesthetic restorations of severely decayed anterior primary teeth are challenging due to the small size of the teeth and the large pulp chambers. Therefore, this study evaluated and compared the tensile and shear bond strengths of conventional versus modified methods (slot technique) of Cl IV restorations in primary incisors. Methods. A total of 120 extracted intact maxillary primary central and lateral incisors were divided into two groups. In group A, conventional Cl IV cavities were prepared. In group B, after conventional cavity preparation, four and three incisal slots were prepared on the incisal edges of the central and lateral incisors, respectively. All the teeth were restored using composite resin, and then the tensile and shear bond strengths were evaluated. Results. A statistically significant increase in the tensile bond strength of restorations was recorded in the modified technique compared to the conventional method ( P =0.001). Although an increase in the shear bond strengths was found in the modified method, the value did not reach a statistically significant level ( P =0.158). The most frequent fracture type was adhesive in the conventional group and cohesive in the modified group, considering the tensile and shear bond strength tests. In both groups, the highest average tensile bond strength was recorded in teeth with the cohesive fracture in dentin, and the lowest average was seen in the adhesive type. Conclusions. Background: The Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has exposed nurses, who are a very important group involved in the care of these patients, to many stresses that may affect their quality of life. This study aimed to determine the relationship between COVID-19 anxiety and the quality of life among Iranian nurses., Method: This online cross-sectional study enrolled 1,131 of Iranian nurses working at the time of the COVID-19 outbreak in treatment centers in different parts of Iran from April to May 2020. The convenience sampling strategy was used. Data were collected using a demographic questionnaire, the 36-Item Short-Form Health Survey (SF-36), and Corona Disease Anxiety Scale (CDAS). The stepwise multiple linear regression models were used to examine the relationships among self-reported anxiety concerning COVID-19 and SF-36 quality of life, its components, and subscales. Partial r was used as an estimate of effect size., Result: The mean SF-36 score was 65.2 (SD=17.6). The mean score of the mental component summary (MCS) (M=56.8, SD=22.3) was lower than the mean score of the physical component summary (PCS) (M=71.6, SD=17.5). The mean score of COVID-19 anxiety was 17.8 (SD=10.5). Of the participants, 378 (33.4%; 95% CI [30.7%, 36.3%]), and 152 (13.4%; 95% CI [11.5%, 15.6%]) reported moderate and severe anxiety, respectively. According to the results of stepwise multiple linear regression model, after adjusting for possible confounding variables, the SF-36 quality of life was still significantly negatively associated with COVID-19 anxiety, with a large effect size (The partial r = -0.515, p < 0.001). The relationship between the SF-36 components and COVID-19 anxiety were also significant, and moderate to large effect sizes were observed (The partial r for (PCS; COVID-19 anxiety) = -0.404; p < 0.001, and for (MCS; COVID-19 anxiety) = -0.521; p < 0.001). In addition, significant correlation coefficients for every subscale of the SF-36 were found for COVID-19 anxiety and its two components, with small to large effect sizes (The partial correlations= -0.211 to -0.524, all ps< 0.001)., Conclusions: The results showed that higher COVID-19 anxiety in nurses decreases their quality of life. COVID-19 infection may have extrapulmunary manifestations such as blood hypercoagulability that may cause thrombosis in both arterial and venous system. Deep dorsal penile vein thrombosis is very rare, and the most common reason is coagulation disorders. The common observed symptom is penile pain especially during erection and it is diagnosed by ultrasound evaluation of the vein. It is necessary to distinguish deep dorsal penile vein thrombosis from superficial dorsal penile vein thrombosis as it needs anti-coagulant treatment. Because of health-promoting effects, the adaptation of skeletal muscles to exercise is considered a therapeutic strategy for metabolic complications and musculoskeletal disabilities. Myokines display many beneficial effects of different exercise modalities. Among them, irisin is known as a systemic effector that positively influences several organs. There are a few studies about the effects of irisin on skeletal muscles, and irisin prosperities need to be well-defined for being an exercise mimetic. To aim this purpose, we assessed the proteome profile of mouse skeletal muscle after eight weeks of irisin injection comparing to resistance and endurance exercise treated groups. In the current study, two-dimensional gel electrophoresis was used to evaluate the protein content of the quadriceps muscle. The results were analyzed with Image Master 2D Platinum V6 software. Differentially expressed proteins were characterized by mass spectrometry (MALDI TOF/TOF) and interpreted using protein data banks and co-expression network. Irisin increases cellular ATP content by driving its overproduction through glycolysis and oxidative phosphorylation similar to two exercise protocols and as a specific property, decreases ATP consumption through creatine kinase downregulation. It also improves the microstructural properties of quadriceps muscle by increasing fiber proteins and might induce cellular proliferation and differentiation. Network analysis of differentially expressed proteins also revealed the co-expression of Irisin precursor with structural and metabolic-related proteins. Axionlike particles (ALPs) provide a promising direction in the search for new physics, while a wide range of models incorporate ALPs. We point out that future neutrino experiments, such as DUNE, possess competitive sensitivity to ALP signals. The high-intensity proton beam impinging on a target can not only produce copious amounts of neutrinos, but also cascade photons that are created from charged particle showers stopping in the target. Therefore, ALPs interacting with photons can be produced (often energetically) with high intensity via the Primakoff effect and then leave their signatures at the near detector through the inverse Primakoff scattering or decays to a photon pair. Moreover, the high-capability near detectors allow for discrimination between ALP signals and potential backgrounds, improving the signal sensitivity further. We demonstrate that a DUNE-like detector can explore a wide range of parameter space in ALP-photon coupling g&#95;{aγ} vs ALP mass m&#95;{a}, including some regions unconstrained by existing bounds; the "cosmological triangle" will be fully explored and the sensitivity limits would reach up to m&#95;{a}∼3-4  GeV and down to g&#95;{aγ}∼10^{-8}  GeV^{-1}.

Aim To describe experiences of patients with COVID-19 infection. Methods This qualitative research was conducted using a phenomenological approach, and participants were selected via purposive sampling. In total, 14 patients with COVID-19 were selected (nine women and five men) aged 20-60 years. Data were collected via in-depth interviews with open questions and through observation. Data analysis was performed using Colizzi's phenomenological approach. Results Three themes and nine categories were extracted; the main themes were mental strains, physical manifestations, and coping mechanisms. Mental strains entailed concerns, fears and isolation, on the other hand, physical manifestations comprised nervous, respiratory and gastrointestinal system, and systemic disorders. Coping mechanisms included religiosity and home remedies categories. Conclusion Mental strains were the most important issues in the patients with COVID-19, which were interwoven with concerning physical manifestations. Most of the participants used self-medication and spiritual resources to cope with the disease. Therefore, it is recommended to carry out proper planning by healthcare personnel to psychologically and spiritually support these patients, while alleviating physical manifestations of the disease., (Copyright© by the Medical Assotiation of Zenica-Doboj Canton.)

The planned DUNE experiment will have excellent sensitivity to the vector and axial couplings of the electron to the Z boson via precision measurements of neutrino-electron scattering. We investigate the sensitivity of DUNE-PRISM, a movable near detector in the direction perpendicular to the beam line, and find that it will qualitatively impact our ability to constrain the weak couplings of the electron. We translate these neutrino-electron scattering measurements into a determination of the weak mixing angle at low scales and estimate that, with seven years of data taking, the DUNE near detector can be used to measure sin^{2}θ&#95;{W} with about 2% precision. We also discuss the impact of combining neutrino-electron scattering data with neutrino trident production at DUNE-PRISM.

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a gynecological endocrine disorder in women of reproductive age. There is adequate evidence that suggests several microRNAs (miRNAs) are of great importance for PCOS. It seems that dysregulated expression of miR-27a, miR-130b, and miR-301a are associated with PCOS. The aim of this study was to investigate whether plasma levels of these miRNAs are different between patients with PCOS and healthy controls. Fifty-three women with a definite diagnosis of PCOS, and 53 healthy controls were enrolled. MiRNAs expression levels in plasma were evaluated by real-time PCR. The diagnostic values of each miRNA were calculated by the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve and areas under the curves (AUC). The main clinical characteristics were not significantly different between the two groups. The circulating plasma expression levels of miR-27a and miR-301a had a significant increase (P = 0.0008 and P <0.0001, respectively) but miR-130b expression level decreased in the patient group (P <0.0001). The AUC for miR-27a, miR-130b, and miR-301a were 0.71, 0.77, and 0.66, respectively. A positive exponential was observed for miR-27a and miR-301a in multiple logistic regression. Changes in the plasma expressions of the studied miRNAs are likely to be associated with PCOS phenotypes. MiR-27a has a potential to serve as a diagnostic biomarker of PCOS.

Background and objectives: With regard to their ease of harvest and common developmental origin, dental pulp stem cells (DPSCs) may act as a favorable source of stem cells in generation of nerves. Moreover; cellular migration and differentiation as well as survival, self-renewal, and proliferation of neuroprogenitor species require the presence of the central nervous system (CNS) mitogens including EGF and bFGF. Accordingly, the possibility of the induction of neuronal differentiation of DPSCs by EGF and bFGF was evaluated in the present study. Materials and methods: DPSCs were treated with 20 ng/ml EGF, 20 ng/ml bFGF, and 10 µg/ml heparin. In order to further induce the neuroprogenitor differentiation, DPSC-derived spheres were also incubated in serum-free media for three days. The resulting spheres were then cultured in high-glucose Dulbecco's Modified Eagle Medium (DMEM) with 10% FBS. The morphology of the cells and the expression of the differentiation markers were correspondingly analyzed by quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR), western blotting, and immunofluorescence (IF). Results: The EGF/bFGF-treated DPSCs showed significant increase in the expression of the neuroprogenitor markers of Nestin and SRY (sex determining region Y)-box 2 (SOX2), 72 h after treatment. The up-regulation of Nestin and SOX2 induced by growth factors was confirmed using western blotting and IF. The cultures also yielded some neuron-like cells with a significant rise in Nestin, microtubule-associated protein 2 (MAP2), and Neurogenin 1 (Ngn1) transcript levels; compared with cells maintained in the control media ( p  < 0.05). Conclusion: DPSCs seemed to potentially differentiate into neuron-like cells under the herein-mentioned treatment conditions.

Charcot-Marie-Tooth (CMT) diseases are a heterogeneous group of genetic peripheral neuropathies caused by mutations in a variety of genes, which are involved in the development and maintenance of peripheral nerves. Myelin protein zero (MPZ) is expressed by Schwann cells, and MPZ mutations can lead to primarily demyelinating polyneuropathies including CMT type 1B. Different mutations demonstrate various forms of disease pathomechanisms, which may be beneficial in understanding the disease cellular pathology. Our molecular dynamics simulation study on the possible impacts of I30T mutation on the MPZ protein structure suggested a higher hydrophobicity and thus lower stability in the membranous structures. A study was also conducted to predict native/mutant MPZ interactions. To validate the results of the simulation study, the native and mutant forms of the MPZ protein were separately expressed in a cellular model, and the protein trafficking was chased down in a time course pattern. In vitro studies provided more evidence on the instability of the MPZ protein due to the mutation. Auditory neuropathy is the particular form of deafness in humans which cannot be treated by replacement therapy. Human dental pulp stem cells (hDPSCs) are derived from an ectomesenchymal neural crest cell population. Therefore, they possess a promising capacity for neuronal differentiation and repair. miR-124, a key regulator of neuronal development in the inner ear, is expressed at high levels in auditory and vestibular neurons. Here, we evaluated the possible effect of miR-124 in alteration of neural protein markers expression. Using quantitative reverse transcription-PCR (qRT-PCR) analyses and immunofluorescence staining, we studied the expression patterns of neural progenitor markers (Nestin, NOTCH1, and SOX2) and neural markers (β-tubulin III, GATA-3, and peripherin) upon transfection of hDPSCs with miR-124. The qRT-PCR results showed that Nestin was upregulated 6 h post-transfection. In contrast, Nestin expression exhibited a decreasing trend 24 h and 48 h post-transfection. Higher levels of β-tubulin III, 6 h and 16 h post transfection in RNA level as compared with control cells, were determined in transfected DPSCs. However, β-tubulin-III expression decreased 48 h post-transfection. We reported a 65-year-old male with a benign mammary myofibroblastoma. This report shows that not all masses of male breast are malignant. To differentiate benign masses from malignant neoplasms, careful preoperative diagnosis should be performed. Objective: Osteoporosis is the most common metabolic bone disease that is not recognized in many elderly people. To determine the cause of low back pain, lumbosacral MRI is done for a large population who may not have gone under dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA). The aim of this study was to predict bone density using lumbar spine signals in lumbosacral MRI in high risk patients for osteoporosis including post-menopausal females and calculate a threshold for a new quantitative MRI-based score to be used in estimation of lumbar spine bone mass density., Methods: 82 menopaused females, who had undergone DXA before, were selected and MRI was done within 6 months after DXA. 69 healthy females aged 20-29 years who had undergone lumbar MRI were selected as reference group. Results were analyzed and threshold and diagnostic performance of MRI-based score (M-score) on the method of T-score was calculated., Results: Negative correlation between M-score and T-score was detected. Cut off point of 2.05 was found for M-score with near sensitivity of 90% and specificity of 87% for detecting osteoporotic patients from non-osteoporotic individuals., Conclusion: M-score is a MRI-based method which can identify patients at risk of osteoporosis. Early diagnosis of osteoporosis can reduce morbidity and mortality caused by it., Advances in Knowledge: The research introduced cut of points for M-score as a new MRI quantitative method to be used as an opportunistic technique for detecting osteoporotic patients.

Background: Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a pediatric heterogeneous psychiatric and neurodevelopmental disorder with social and communication deficits, language impairment and ritualistic or repetitive behaviors. ASD has significant genetic bases but candidate genes and molecular mechanisms of disorder are not clarified. Neuregulin1 (NRG1) gene, located in 8p12 is involved in development of central nervous system and was indicated as candidate gene in schizophrenia., Methods: mRNA level of types I, II and III of NRG1 gene were studied in peripheral blood of 1540 ASD patients (IQ > 70) and 1490 control children by quantitative Real Time PCR. Also three domains of executive functions (working memory, response inhibition and vigilance) were examined in all subjects., Findings: All three types were significantly down regulated in ASD patients. Significant deficiencies in executive functions (EF) were found in ASD patients. EF deficiencies mostly were associated with down expression of mRNA level of types I and III. Also correlations were found between NRG1 expression with gender and severity of ASD symptoms., Interpretations: Findings primarily have been suggested involvement of NRG1 in etiology of ASD. Also correlation of NRG1 mRNA level with EF deficiencies could shed lights on EF mechanisms and may suggest targeted treatments to improve particular executive functions. Introduction: Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the main cause of death in children with end-stage renal disease (ESRD). Matrix metalloproteinases (MMP-2 and MMP-9) are members of endopeptidases which contribute to CVD. The aim of this study was to evaluate the association of MMP-2 and MMP-9 with markers of endothelial dysfunction, soluble E-selectin and brachial flow-mediated dilatation; several biochemical risk factors of CVD; and thrombotic incidents in children with ESRD., Materials and Methods: Thirty-one children with ESRD and 18 healthy age- and sex-adjusted controls underwent measurement of serum levels of MMP-2, MMP-9, soluble E-selectin, phosphorus, calcium, parathyroid hormone, lipid profile, thrombotic factors, and albumin. Flow-mediated dilatation was measured in both groups by Doppler ultrasonography. Thrombotic events were assessed in patients with ESRD., Results: Matrix metalloproteinase-2 positively correlated with systolic and diastolic blood pressure, soluble E-selectin, creatinine, cholesterol, triglyceride, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, phosphorus, and parathyroid hormone and negatively correlated with body mass index, hemoglobin, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and flow-mediated dilatation, while MMP-9 correlated with soluble E-selectin, phosphorus, parathyroid hormone, and albumin and negatively correlated with body mass index and hemoglobin. Six patients (19.3%) had thrombotic incidents. There was no significant difference between the levels of MMP-2 and MMP-9 in the children with and without thrombotic events., Conclusions: This study determined the associations of MMP-2 and MMP-9 with markers of endothelial dysfunction and several traditional and uremia related CVD risk factors in children with ESRD. No associations were found between these two MMPs and thrombotic events.

Objectives: The aetiology and molecular mechanisms of schizophrenia (SCZ) and paranoid personality disorder (PPD) are not yet clarified. The present study aimed to assess the role of mitochondrial complex I and cell bioenergetic pathways in the aetiology and characteristics of SCZ and PPD., Methods: mRNA levels of all genomic and mitochondrial genes which encode mitochondrial complex I subunits (44 genes) were assessed in blood in 634 SCZ, 340 PPD patients and 528 non-psychiatric subjects using quantitative real-time PCR, and associated comprehensive psychiatric, neurological and biochemical assessments., Results: Significant expression changes of 18 genes in SCZ patients and 11 genes in PPD patients were detected in mitochondrial complex I. Most of these genes were novel candidate genes for SCZ and PPD. Several correlations between mRNA levels and severity of symptoms, drug response, deficits in attention, working memory, executive functions and brain activities were found., Conclusions: Deregulations of both core and supernumerary subunits of complex I are involved in the aetiology of SCZ and PPD. These deregulations have effects on brain activity as well as disorder characteristics.

In this study, we provide a comparative genomic analysis of Pantoea agglomerans strain P5 and 10 closely related strains based on phylogenetic analyses. A next-generation shotgun strategy was implemented using the Illumina HiSeq 2500 technology followed by core- and pan-genome analysis. The genome of P. agglomerans strain P5 contains an assembly size of 5082485 bp with 55.4% G + C content. P. agglomerans consists of 2981 core and 3159 accessory genes for Coding DNA Sequences (CDSs) based on the pan-genome analysis. Strain P5 can be grouped closely with strains PG734 and 299 R using pan and core genes, respectively. All the predicted and annotated gene sequences were allocated to KEGG pathways. Accordingly,  genes involved in plant growth-promoting (PGP) ability, including phosphate solubilization, IAA and siderophore production, acetoin and 2,3-butanediol synthesis and bacterial secretion, were assigned. This study provides an in-depth view of the PGP characteristics of strain P5, highlighting its potential use in agriculture as a biofertilizer.

Objective/aim: Two major enzymes in the microRNA maturation process, Dicer and Drosha, as well as DGCR8, the assistant of Drosha, function in the microprocessor complex. In this survey, the mRNA expression profiles of Drosha, Dicer, and DGCR8 in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) from ankylosing spondylitis (AS) patients and healthy controls were measured., Methods: Forty patients with AS and 40 age and gender matched healthy individuals were included in the study. PBMCs were separated, total RNA content of the cells was isolated, and first strand cDNA was synthesized. Quantitative analysis was performed through real-time PCR using the SYBR Green gene expression master mix., Results: AS cases expressed the Drosha mRNA almost equal to that of healthy controls (Fold Change= -0.94; P= 0.200). However, both Dicer and DGCR8 mRNA expressions were downregulated in patients relative to healthy subjects (Fold Change= -0.54 and -0.60; P= 0.002 and 0.004, respectively)., Conclusion: Our results suggest that downregulation of miRNA maturation components, namely Dicer and DGCR8 may be contributing in the pathogenesis procedure of AS., (© 2017 The Mediterranean Journal of Rheumatology (MJR).)
