Objective of this study is to evaluate the performance of eight strawberry cultivars grown in an elevated bench system. Yield and quality parameters were measured. This report also includes a discussion on production challenges and economic considerations of this production system.

This study assesses the effect of the material type (lithium disilicate, zirconia, and polymer-infiltrated ceramic) and dental bonding substrates (dentin, dentin with intra-coronal cavity, and dentin with composite filling) on the fracture resistance and failure mode of molars restored by occlusal veneers. Methods: Ninety occlusal veneers, fabricated from either lithium disilicate, zirconia, or polymer-infiltrated ceramic, were adhesively bonded to teeth prepared with either dentin, dentin with intra-coronal cavity, or dentin with composite filling. All specimens were thermally aged (5000 cycles), then load cycled (120,000 cycles). Each specimen was subjected to a compressive load through fracture, then was examined (×20) to identify the fracture type. Data were statistically analyzed. Results: Material type and dental substrate had no significant effect on the fracture resistance of adhesively retained occlusal veneer restorations. For each material, no significant differences were found between veneers bonded to dentin, dentin with intra-coronal cavity, and dentin with composite filling. Additionally, within each bonding substrate, there were no significant differences between lithium disilicate, zirconia, and polymer-infiltrated ceramic veneers. The adhesive failure was recorded mainly with zirconia occlusal veneer restorations. Conclusions: Considering the fracture results, lithium disilicate, zirconia, and polymer-infiltrated ceramic occlusal veneers perform well whatever the type of dental bonding surface. When the dental bonding surface varies, different occlusal veneer materials should be considered. Occlusal veneers bonded to dentin, dentin with composite filling, or dentin with an intra-coronal cavity exhibited a fracture resistance exceeding the average human masticatory forces in the molar area.

In 2017, the United States fire service documented 87 firefighter deaths and an estimated 58,835 firefighter injuries. To reduce these risks, the fire service invests hours of training in personnel to keep them as safe as possible. Unfortunately, these fatalities and injuries continue to happen despite the number of training hours conducted to master department standard operating procedures (SOPs) and maintain state continuing education requirements. Although training will never prevent 100% of fire-related deaths, it is a critical component in decision-making in a high risk/low frequency occupation. Based on NIOSH findings, it can impact response to improve firefighter safety. This thesis presents various training models currently used in the fire service, how cognitive processes and panic and stress impact firefighter response, other challenges and impacts on training, as well as best practices for training in other organizations. Giannini1 1 CNR-Istituto di Cristallografia, Via Amendola 122/O, 70126 Bari, Italy *e-mail: (davide.altamura@ic.cnr.it) INTRODUCTION: Simultaneous SAXS/WAXS data collection allows to directly relate atomic and nano- scale structures at each point on the sample. Synchrotron beamlines typically exploit an off-axis detector for WAXS, although this prevents the collection of diffraction rings over the full azimuthal range, or scanning is performed twice to collect the full scattering signal at small (SAXS) and wide (WAXS) angles. Despite the excellent data quality, a possible drawback can be some information loss and/or mismatch between SAXS and WAXS maps due to sample structural evolution (spontaneous, due to drying, radiation damage, drifts). A different approach, also available in table-top facilities, exploits an image plate detector with central hole, to collect the average 2D WAXS signal along with a spatially resolved SAXS map, and/or single SAXS/WAXS patterns from selected sample points. EXPERIMENTAL: A Rigaku synchrotron-class micro-source, coupled to a SAXS/WAXS camera, allows for double length scale diffraction microscopy with 70?200 ?m spatial resolution1. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION: Even though a scattering component from sample local structure can be partially smeared out in the integrated average, the spatially resolved SAXS/Absorption map can help in discriminating and localizing micro- and nano-scale components (e.g. CaS and HA, respectively, in the Figure), through the following simultaneous SAXS/WAXS signal collection from selected regions of interest. Once the correspondence of SAXS/WAXS features is assessed, the 2D SAXS/Absorption map can be used for qualitative structural mapping, quantitative estimation of concentration gradients (e.g. HA nanocrystals across the scaffold in the Figure)1, or statistical quantitative information can be extracted by averaging the normalized SAXS intensity in selected q-ranges, for comparative studies on nanoparticle abundance (e.g. oil nanodroplets in films made from emulsions)2, among others. CONCLUSIONS: The simultaneous SAXS/WAXS-integrated full pattern collection allows for double length scale description of the real-time status of the sample, with 2D spatial resolution, without loss of intensity or possibly information in case of preferred orientations, and is feasible with laboratory equipment. A leurs stades les plus précoces, les lésions d’usure n’induisent que de minimes pertes tissulaires : ainsi, comment justifier leur traitement en ayant recourt à des prothèses traditionnelles d’autant plus mutilantes ? C’est par l’émergence de la dentisterie adhésive, que toute cette problématique semble trouver une réponse. L’avènement de nouveaux procédés et matériaux céramiques, ainsi que de colles encore plus performantes, permet de travailler sur des épaisseurs toujours plus fines et respectueuses de l’organe dentaire.La perte de Dimension Verticale d’Occlusion (DVO) induite par ces lésions d’usure, peut désormais être interceptée aux stades initiaux, et minimiser le coût biologique. La clé de ces réhabilitations souvent très étendues et anxiogènes pour le praticien, demeure dans la reproductibilité d’un protocole précis, et d’un dialogue efficace avec le prothésiste.Ce travail résume la prise en charge rigoureuse, pas à pas, des différentes thérapeutiques contemporaines.

Temat för detta examensarbete är brädspel, därför börjar studien med en genomgång av brädspelens historia. Därefter följer en generell genomgång av ett flertal berättartekniker. Detta görs för att ge kontext till resten av arbetet. Forskningsfrågan för arbetet är: Hur påverkas personens agerande i en fiktiv värld utifrån dess känslomässiga koppling till ett narrativ? Denna fråga besvarades med hjälp utav ett brädspel. Detta brädspel hade två versioner, en med ett narrativ och en utan narrativ för att sedan kunna påvisa skillnader mellan dessa. Tjugo personer testade sedan de två artefakterna. Efter testningen hölls kvalitativa intervjuer. Dessa användes för att svara på forskningsfrågan ställd. Att testarnas agerande varierade mellan de två versionerna var det ingen tvekan om. De narrativa testarna kände en starkare känslomässig koppling till karaktärerna i spelet. Om arbete på undersökningen skulle fortsätta hade en större testgrupp med större mångfald varit att föredra. The theme for this paper is table-top games, therefore the study will begin with a history review of table-top games. Following will be a general rundown of multiple narrative techniques. This is for giving a context for the rest of the work. The research question asked for this paper is: How is a person’s behavior affected by their emotional connections to a narrative? This question was answered with the help of a table-top game. The game had two variants, one with a narrative and one without. This was for finding differences between the two. Twenty persons tested the two artefacts. After the testing, qualitative interviews took place. These were used to answer the question. There was no doubt that the behavior of the testers differentiated between the two variants. The narrative testers felt a stronger emotional connection to the characters in the game. If the study would have continued, a larger test group with a greater diversity would have been preferred.

[EN] Thin layer membranes with controllable features and material arrangements are often used as target materials for laser driven particle accelerators. Reduced cost, large scale fabrication of such membranes with high reproducibility, and good stability are central for the efficient production of proton beams. These characteristics are of growing importance in the context of advanced laser light sources where increased repetition rates boost the need for consumable targets with design and properties adjusted to study the different phenomena arising in ultra-intense laser-plasma interaction. Wepresent the fabrication of sub-micrometric thin-layer gold or aluminum membranes in a silicon wafer frame by using nano/micro-electro-mechanical-system (N/MEMS) processing which are suitable for rapid patterning and machining of many samples at the same time and allowing for high-throughput production of targets for laser-driven acceleration. Obtained targets were tested for laserproton acceleration through the Target Normal Sheath Acceleration mechanism (TNSA) in a series of experiments carried out on a purpose-made table-top Ti:Sa running at 3 TW peak power and 10 Hz diode pump rate with a contrast over ASE of 10(8), The authors highly appreciate the collaboration of Radosys (Budapest) which provided CR-39 detector material, etching bath, and readout equipment. Flexible manufacturing technologies are supporting the routine production of components with freeform surfaces in a wide variety of materials and surface finishes. Such surfaces may be exploited for both aesthetic and performance criteria for a wide range of industries, for example automotive, aircraft, small consumer goods and medial components. In order to ensure conformance between manufactured part and digital design it is necessary to understand, validate and promote best practice of the available measurement technologies. Similar, but currently less quantifiable, measurement requirements also exist in heritage, museum and fine art recording where objects can be individually hand crafted to extremely fine levels of detail. Optical 3D measurement systems designed for close range applications are typified by one or more illumination sources projecting a spot, line or structured light pattern onto a surface or surfaces of interest. Reflections from the projected light are detected in one or more imaging devices and measurements made concerning the location, intensity and optionally colour of the image. Coordinates of locations on the surface may be computed either directly from an understanding of the illumination and imaging geometry or indirectly through analysis of the spatial frequencies of the projected pattern. Regardless of sensing configuration some independent means is necessary to ensure that measurement capability will meet the requirements of a given level of object recording and is consistent for variations in surface properties and structure. As technologies mature, guidelines for best practice are emerging, most prominent at the current time being the German VDI/VDE 2634 and ISO/DIS 10360-8 guidelines. Imbibed moisture affects the mechanical properties of polymers and influences the performance of products made out of them during service. Flexural fatigue tests were conducted under deflection control mode using a custom built, table-top flexural fatigue test rig at laboratory condition on PA66/hectorite nanocomposites (PA66CN). Dynamic mechanical analysis studies of PA66CN revealed significant plasticization effect of water on moduli and damping factor with increase in imbibed moisture content. A decrease in induced flexural stress amplitude and rise in temperature of specimen with increase in moisture content result in increased fatigue life at a constant cyclic end deflection. The microstructure of failed flexural fatigue specimens manifested a rubbery behavior. The extent of rubberiness is directly related to the difference between specimen temperature at cyclic steady state and glass transition temperature. � 2010 Elsevier B.V.
