Abstract

Nitrogen-martensitic phase (Fe0.8Co0.2)8N was successfully synthesized by using an industrially suitable gas-nitriding process of a bulk foil. So far, the nitrogen-martensitic phase of the bulk material has not been synthesized at such a high Co content. We found that this is because the nitride was easily denitrided by elevating temperature. In this work, by exploiting a NH3 gas-nitriding process combined with quenching at a rapid cooling rate (>800 °C/s) in NH3 atmosphere, we found that nitrogen stayed at the surface layer of the foil. By using cross-sectional laser microscopy, the nitride region was observed as a 7-μm-thick layered shape at the surface of the 100-μm-thick foil. An x-ray diffraction technique revealed that the nitride layer was a martensitic phase that was characterized as a body-centered tetragonal structure with c/a = 1.04. These findings can be applied to nitriding and surface treatments for alloy systems in which a nitrogen solid solution is hardly formed. Abstract

The emergence of the COVID-19 (coronavirus disease of 2019) pandemic in 2020 and the ensuing state of emergency issued by the Japanese government, which enforced from April 6 to May 25, 2020, changed our collective lifestyle dramatically. An increase in time spent at home resulted in a change in the structure of energy consumption. This study aimed to estimate the change in energy consumption at home during and after the state of emergency in Kobe, Japan. Six types of household energy consumption models were created based on the age of the head of household, the number of household members, and the usage time, and energy consumption of consumer durables were estimated for each model type. The results of the model analysis revealed that energy consumption during and after the state of emergency increased by 4.2% and 3.7%, respectively, compared to consumption before the state of emergency.

29. ネパール地震における建物の復旧状況の調査

Abstract

本研究では，2015年4月に発生したゴルカ地震（ネパール地震）から3年半後における復旧状況を調査したので報告する。筆者らは，2018年11月に現地に赴き，カトマンズ渓谷のカトマンズ及び周辺都市部の調査を行った。カトマンズ市内は建物被害が少なく復興が早かったものの，カトマンズ市外の都市では今なお多くの場所で住宅再建が続いていた。世界遺産であっても，寺院の再建が進行中であったり，崩壊したまま放置されている建物もみられた。住居建物の建築資材を調査した結果，都市部における殆どの建物は，焼成レンガ・日干しレンガとRC造の柱・梁で構成されていた。ネパールでは，家族が複数世代で居住し，その都度住居の上階を増築する行為を行っていることがわかった。このような建築行為が，地震による被害を増幅させたと予想される。

Abstract

In this study, we analyzed the CO2 emissions of online music and video streaming services, as one of the digital contents, in Japan using life cycle assessment. As a system boundary of online music and video streaming, processes such as data center construction and server manufacturing, usage of communication networks and internet communication technology devices (personal computers (PCs) and smartphones), and disposal of data centers and servers were considered. Data were collected using statistical and online surveys, and CO2 emissions per 1 MB of communication volume were calculated. One of the results revealed that the lifecycle CO2 emissions of listening to online music using PCs and smartphones were 5.88 × 10−4 and 1.43 × 10−4 kg-CO2/MB, respectively. The overall CO2 emissions for domestic music and video streaming services in 2019 was 921 thousand t-CO2. Online video streaming accounted for 87.7% of the total emissions, which corresponded to approximately 0.23% of domestic CO2 emissions derived from electric power generation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
