PLANT extracts ,MIGRAINE ,PLACEBOS ,HERBAL medicine ,NATURAL products ,MIGRAINE aura ,CLUSTER headache - Abstract
Background/Objectives: Migraine is one of the most common diseases in highly developed countries, being even more common than diabetes and asthma. Migraines can affect emotional, social, and physical wellbeing as well as professional life. The most common symptoms are severe headaches associated with nausea, vomiting, photophobia and sonophobia, difficulty concentrating, sensitivity and emotional disorders. Many studies have been published to establish the best migraine-management drugs, but not many of them refer to plant extracts, which have been given more attention by patients lately. Among these generically called herbal medicines, the effect of tussilago hybrida standardized extract has been studied since the early twenties. This stands as the fundamental component of Neurasites
® and the reason for research on materials and methods, results on treatment schemes for diminishing migraine attack features, as well as migraine prevention. Methods: There are two directions of research (herbal and placebo medicine) considered to be of interest due to the actual trend toward natural medicine and against chemicals and associated drugs. For quantitative research, the research tool used was that of the Neurasites® Questionnaire Survey (NQS). Results: The obtained results prove the efficacy of treatment by reducing the duration of headache attacks, diminishing pain intensity and decreasing the frequency of migraine episodes. Conclusions: Further research development should focus on other dosages and treatment schemes and on other similar natural products to be used in migraine attack treatment. NUTRITIONAL status ,STATISTICAL hypothesis testing ,POPULATION differentiation ,OBESITY ,STATURE - Abstract
The paper's purpose is to evaluate the degree of typological differentiation in the Romanian population using Kretschmer's classification of the three main psychosomatic types: leptosomic, pyknic and athletic. The selection formed by 5 samples from the main historical Romanian's provinces include 712 subjects from 18 to 60 years old (402 males, 312 females). The analysis of typological differentiation was only made from the somatic perspective, using stature and 15 constitutional indexes, which illustrate bodily development, trunk's shape, nutritional status, corpulence, adiposity, bodily robustness, etc. Average values, phenotipical frequencies and tests of significance were calculated. The typological analyses confirms a concordance between subject's bodily conformation and somatic description of the kretschmerian psychosomatic types. In our selection the pyknic type slightly prevails, followed by leptosomic and a lower percent of athletic types. Our study reopens the interest for the biotypological research of populations, important for the knowledge of human diversity, for clinical investigations, professional selection, etc. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

WEIGHT loss ,DIFFERENCE equations ,SEDENTARY behavior ,BREAST cancer research ,DAIRY products ,OVERWEIGHT children - Abstract
The poor quality diet, physical inactivity and overweight are frequently found in cancer patients. These aspects, induced by an inadequate lifestyle, are commonly present at the moment of cancer diagnosis. They could aggravate after the beginning of treatment, leading to a bad prognosis and the increase in mortality. After the diagnosis of breast cancer, some patients become motivated to change their lifestyle by losing weight, following a diet or practicing a physical activity. The paper is part of a biomedical anthropological research of a group of 172 females between 24 and 87 years old from urban and rural environment diagnosed with breast cancer. The women between 50 and 69 years old prevail. Changes in the frequency of sweets, meat and meat products, dairy products, vegetables and fruit consumption after receiving the oncological diagnosis are the mainly aspects taken into account. The women from the group have an average tall stature (163.5 cm) and a BMI which illustrates a weight excess leading to preobesity (26.27). They exceed significantly the country's average values for height and abdominal circumference, placing themselves in «> (M+DS)» interval. The differences of women's alimentary behavior after receiving the oncological diagnosis have been evaluated using inquires, phenotypical frequencies' calculus and the assessment of difference certainty by Chi squarred test (X²). After the diagnosis, the women of the group have significantly reduced the frequency of sweets and meat consumption and have instead started to consume daily more often dairy products, vegetables and fruits. The dietary changes are part of a larger picture of biological, psychological and social changes produced by the oncological diagnosis. The article is a contribution to the complex research on patients with breast cancer, a disease with growing incidence around the world. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

ART history ,METRIC system ,STATISTICAL hypothesis testing ,STERNUM ,STATURE - Abstract
The paper analyses the variability through age of some body proportions in metric and modular system, compared with conventional canons or from the art history. The subject's group include 753 males and 669 females between 18 to 65 years old from the main historical and geographical provinces of Romania. The variation of stature average values and of the 5 dimensions-modules (head length, total face length, sternum length, thorax depth, hand length) spread through 5 decades of age was assessed. The average values of the proportions of these modules for stature, among them some dimensions of the torso, have been calculated. The average values of the obtained 24 proportions have been compared by decades of age with the average values from the group and with the above mentioned canons. The harmony of the proportions has been verified by significance test (Student test, Z-score, etc.). The results show a harmonious development of the body proportions, especially in the first decades of age for both sexes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

SEXUAL dimorphism ,METRIC system ,STATURE ,TORSO ,ART history - Abstract
This paper is the third study regarding the harmony of some body proportions appreciated in metric and modular system (Luca et al., 2018: 69--83; Luca et al., 2019: 39--53). The group of subjects comprises 743 males with an average age of 36.88 ± 11.88 years and 709 females with an average age of 32.74 ± 10.62 years, coming from the main historical and geographical provinces of Romania. Five dimension modules (head length, total facial height, sternum height, chest depth, hand length) were put in proportion with stature/height, between them and with three torso diameters (shoulders width, pelvis width, transverse thoracic diameter) resulting 25 proportions on which are added the indexes of shoulders width, pelvis width, and torso shape. The average values of some dimensions and of torso indexes were compared with the average national values (Z). No significant differences were observed, which confers representativeness for the group. The average values of the proportions resulted based on dimensions modules were compared with canons from the art history and with "canons" deduced by us from the anthropometric practice based on new dimension modules (sternum height, chest depth, head length). The results mostly confirm the closeness to the canons and sustain the harmonious development of the torso despite the volume fluctuations, the differences between the samples, and the possible microevolutive differences. The metric and conformative dimorphism highlighted by Student test (t), sexual dimorphism index, and Z-test illustrate a harmonious development for both sexes, a little more emphasized for males. SEXUAL dimorphism ,GAUSSIAN distribution ,STATURE ,HUMAN body ,STATISTICAL hypothesis testing - Abstract
This paper appreciate the harmony of corporal development in metric and/or modular system based on 12 dimensions from the longitudinal ax of the human body, parts of the stature, calculating 38 proportions from which 36 have been compared with various canons from the history of plastic arts and architecture. The research material is a sample of 691 adult women, on average of 32.43 ± 10.37 years old, from all the Romanian historical provinces. The distance from canons and sexual dimorphism have been appreciated by calculating the differences between the values of women's average proportions and the canons for the former and the values of men's average proportions from the same sample (771 men, presented in a previous paper) for the latter, through the sexual dimorphism index and the Student's significance tests, χ², normal distribution test z. The dimensional sexual dimorphism is clearly favoring the men and the closing to the conventional canons illustrates through the proportions' values from the „M ± ζ” interval a more harmonious men's bodily development compared with women's (72.22:55.56%). The results reclaim a future study of the variability on age categories. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

ANTHROPOLOGY ,MODULES (Algebra) ,STERNUM ,STATURE ,ANTHROPOMETRY ,ROMANIAN history - Abstract
The objective of this paper is to analyze and to comparatively appreciate in metric and modular system the harmony of some corporal proportions, less used by the classic anthropometry, which are deducted by interrelation of 13 dimensions situated on the longitudinal axe of the body. The studied group includes 771 males aged between 19 and 61, with an average age of 37.23, coming from all the historical and geographical provinces of post-war Romania. The volume of the group varies depending on the examined type of dimension (module) or proportion. 51 proportions based on 13 dimensions have been calculated, stature being the main dimension, and physiognomic height of the face (tr-gn), sternum length (sst-xy), and hand length (sty-da) being the main modules. Weighted means for the whole group were calculated. The results, compared with canons - beauty models from the history of plastic arts and architecture, confirm a harmoniously proportionate average corporal male habitus for the stature development. CONFORMATIONAL analysis ,PEDIATRIC physiology ,PSYCHOLOGY of age groups ,PSYCHOLOGY of preschool children ,MEDICAL education - Abstract
The purpose of the paper is to evaluate the conformational and dimensional development of the hand and external ear of a group of children 3 to 6 years of age (240 children, 122 boys and 118 girls) from all the country, selected from the study of family and filiations. The data have been compared with Knussmann normality scales. The statistical signification was probed with Student t-test and Z-test. On the average, the auricle has a medium dimensions and conformation, while the hand has smaller dimensions and a medium conformation. The growth between 3 and 6 years is characteristic for this period, with irregular rhythm and low intensity sexual dimorphism, favoring the boys. The research represents a novelty for the Romanian auxological anthropology. The preschool age is a delicate ontogenetic period, contained in the Pende's "little puberty", and the development of the hand and external ear is very important for the future complex activity of the child, claiming the care and attention of the didactic staff. We consider that our study reveals its importance for the medical and educational system. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Diacronic and comparative anthropological study of some Romanian students from Bucharest universities. In the present paper we compare mean dimensional and conformational values which characterize four series of students from Bucharest universities (Medicine, Technology, Ecology) studied by Professor Francisc Rainer (1929), Th. Enăchescu and Suzana Grinţescu-Pop (1972, 1974) and Eleonora Luca (1996-1998). By comparison with national mean values from the Anthropological Atlas of Romania (Radu, Glavce, Ştirbu, 2011:52), analyze of the results shows higher dimensions for cephalic callote, height and sitting height from the series of 1972 and 1974. The students of Ecological University are closer mostly to the national mean values, excepting the height, significantly higher and also the highest in the series succession. Compared with the mean values of the students of 1929, a progressive and significant increase of height throughout eight decades is observed for the next series and a diminution trend of cephalic indices and cormic index for ecologist students.
