Machine learning (ML) newly enables tests for higher inter-species diversity in visible phenotype (disparity) among males versus females, predictions made from Darwinian sexual selection versus Wallacean natural selection, respectively. Here, we use ML to quantify variation across a sample of > 16,000 dorsal and ventral photographs of the sexually dimorphic birdwing butterflies (Lepidoptera: Papilionidae). Validation of image embedding distances, learnt by a triplet-trained, deep convolutional neural network, shows ML can be used for automated reconstruction of phenotypic evolution achieving measures of phylogenetic congruence to genetic species trees within a range sampled among genetic trees themselves. Quantification of sexual disparity difference (male versus female embedding distance), shows sexually and phylogenetically variable inter-species disparity. Ornithoptera exemplify high embedded male image disparity, diversification of selective optima in fitted multi-peak OU models and accelerated divergence, with cases of extreme divergence in allopatry and sympatry. However, genus Troides shows inverted patterns, including comparatively static male embedded phenotype, and higher female than male disparity – though within an inferred selective regime common to these females. Birdwing shapes and colour patterns that are most phenotypically distinctive in ML similarity are generally those of males. However, either sex can contribute majoritively to observed phenotypic diversity among species. Machine learning on over 16 thousand photos of birdwing butterflies detected both examples of higher male than female variation, and vice versa, testing predictions of natural versus sexual selection debated by Darwin and Wallace. Purpose: The association between birth order and adverse perinatal outcomes has been well studied in twin pregnancies. However, little is known about the differences in immediate perinatal outcomes as well as long‐term hospitalization of the offspring in triplet pregnancies according to their birth order. As such, we aimed to assess the differences in immediate perinatal outcomes and long‐term hospitalizations among triplets by their birth order. Methods: In a retrospective hospital‐based cohort study, immediate perinatal outcomes and long‐term hospitalizations were compared among triplet siblings according to their birth order. Deliveries occurred between the years 1991 and 2021 in a tertiary medical center. The study groups were followed until 18 years of age for cardiovascular, respiratory, neurological, and infection‐related hospitalizations. Generalized estimation equation (GEE) models were used to control for confounders. Kaplan–Meier survival curves were used to compare cumulative long‐term hospitalization incidences and Cox proportional hazards models were performed to control for confounders. Results: The study included 117 triplet deliveries. Rates of small for gestational age (SGA) infants increased linearly by birth order (6.0%, 7.7%, and 15.4% for the first, second, and third siblings, respectively; p‐value for trends = 0.035). Using a GEE model controlling for maternal age, being born third in a triplet pregnancy was independently associated with SGA (third vs. first sibling, adjusted OR 3.0, 95% CI 1.38–6.59, p = 0.005). No significant differences in cardiovascular, respiratory, neurological, and infection‐related hospitalizations were noted among the first, second, and third siblings. Likewise, using Kaplan–Meier survival analyses, no significant differences in the cumulative incidence of long‐term pediatric hospitalizations were noted between the siblings. In Cox proportional hazards models, controlling for weight and gender, birth order in a triplet pregnancy did not exhibit an association with long‐term hospitalizations of the offspring. Background: The worldwide occurrence of triplet pregnancy is estimated to be 0.093%, with a natural incidence of approximately 1 in 8000. This study aims to analyze the neonatal health status and birth weight discordance (BWD) of triplets based on chorionicity from birth until discharge. Methods: This was a retrospective study. We reviewed a total of 136 triplet pregnancies at our tertiary hospital between January 1, 2001, and December 31, 2021. Maternal and neonatal outcomes, inter-triplet BWD, neonatal morbidity, and mortality were analyzed. Results: Among all cases, the rates of intrauterine death, neonatal death, and perinatal death were 10.29, 13.07, and 24.26%, respectively. Thirty-seven of the cases resulted in fetal loss, including 13 with fetal anomalies. The maternal complications and neonatal outcomes of the 99 triplet pregnancies without fetal loss were compared across different chorionicities, including a dichorionic (DC) group (41 cases), trichorionic (TC) group (37 cases), and monochorionic (MC) group (21 cases). Neonatal hypoproteinemia (P < 0.001), hyperbilirubinemia (P < 0.019), and anemia (P < 0.003) exhibited significant differences according to chorionicity, as did the distribution of BWD (P < 0.001). More than half of the cases in the DC and TC groups had a BWD < 15%, while those in the MC group had a BWD < 50% (47.6%). TC pregnancy decreased the risk of neonatal anemia (adjusted odds ratio [AOR] = 0.084) and need for blood transfusion therapy after birth (AOR = 0.119). In contrast, a BWD > 25% increased the risk of neonatal anemia (AOR = 10.135) and need for blood transfusion after birth (AOR = 7.127). TC pregnancy, MCDA or MCTA, and BWD > 25% increased neonatal hypoproteinemia, with AORs of 4.629, 5.123, and 5.343, respectively. Conclusions: The BWD differed significantly according to chorionicity. Additionally, TC pregnancies reduced the risk of neonatal anemia and need for blood transfusion, but increased the risk of neonatal hypoproteinemia. In contrast, the BWD between the largest and smallest triplets increased the risk of neonatal anemia and the need for blood transfusion. TC pregnancy, MCDA or MCTA, and BWD > 25% increased the risks of neonatal hypoproteinemia. Triplet pregnancies involve several complications, the most important being prematurity as virtually all triplets are born preterm. We conducted this study to compare the outcomes of reduced vs. non-reduced triplet pregnancies managed in the largest tertiary hospital in Finland. This was a retrospective cohort study in the Helsinki University Hospital during 2006–2020. Data on the pregnancies, parturients and newborns were collected from patient records. The fetal number, chorionicity and amnionicity were defined in first-trimester ultrasound screening. The main outcome measures were perinatal and neonatal mortality of non-reduced triplets, compared to twins and singletons selectively reduced of triplet pregnancies. There were 57 initially triplet pregnancies and 35 of these continued as non-reduced triplets and resulted in the delivery of 104 liveborn children. The remaining 22 cases were spontaneously or medically reduced to twins (9) or singletons (13). Most (54.4 %) triplet pregnancies were spontaneous. There were no significant differences in gestational age at delivery between triplets (mean 33+0, median 34+0) and those reduced to twins (mean 32+5, median 36+0). The survival at one week of age was higher for triplets compared to twins (p<0.00001). Most pregnancies continued as non-reduced triplets, which were born at a similar gestational age but with a significantly higher liveborn rate compared to those reduced to twins. There were no early neonatal deaths among cases reduced to singletons. Prematurity was the greatest concern for multiples in this cohort, whereas the small numbers may explain the lack of difference in gestational age between these groups. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Premature births are a health problem arising in triplet pregnancies, resulting in high levels of morbidity and mortality. The objective of this study is to evaluate the utility of cervical pessaries in reducing prematurity (<34 weeks) in triplet pregnancies. This is a single-center, retrospective case-control study regarding triplet pregnancies with follow-up at the La Paz University Hospital between 2000 and 2023. Maternal characteristics, obstetric and perinatal outcomes, and the use of cervical pessaries were examined. 165 triplet pregnancies were analyzed: 87 (52.7 %) in the case group (premature triplet pregnancies) and 78 in the control group (non-premature triplet pregnancies). A cervical pessary was inserted in 15 (17.2 %) triplet pregnancies in the case group and in 12 (16.7 %) triplet pregnancies in the control group (p = 0.92; OR = 1.04 (0.46–2.35)). A pessary was later inserted in the non-premature group (p = 0.01). The risk of preterm labor and the use of tocolytics ± glucocorticoids were found to be significantly more frequent in the premature group, with p = 0.01; OR = 2.30 (1.21–4.36) and p < 0.01; OR = 2.36 (1.23–4.44), respectively. Protocol-based cesarean sections were more frequent in the non-premature group (p < 0.01), while cesarean sections due to maternal complications (p < 0.01) and premature membrane rupture (p < 0.01) were more frequent in the premature group. Abstract Singlet‐to‐triplet intersystem crossing (ISC) in organic molecules is intimately connected with their geometries: by modifying the molecular shape, symmetry selection rules pertaining to spin‐orbit coupling can be partially relieved, leading to extra matrix elements for increased ISC. As an analog to this molecular design concept, the study finds that the lattice symmetry of supramolecular polymers also defines their triplet formation efficiencies. A supramolecular polymer self‐assembled from weakly interacting molecules is considered. Its 2D oblique unit cell effectively renders it as a coplanar array of 1D molecular columns weakly bound to each other. Using momentum‐resolved photoluminescence imaging in combination with Monte Carlo simulations, the study found that photogenerated charge carriers in the supramolecular polymer predominantly recombine as spin‐uncorrelated carrier pairs through inter‐column charge transfer states. This lattice‐defined recombination pathway leads to a substantial triplet formation efficiency (≈60%) in the supramolecular polymer. These findings suggest that lattice symmetry of micro‐/macroscopic structures relying on intermolecular interactions can be strategized for controlled triplet formation.

This article discusses a rare case of identical triplet brothers who were diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD). The triplets exhibited consistent lower extremity muscle weakness and eventually lost independent ambulation. However, their shoulder abduction function showed inconsistency, with different lesions observed in the deltoid muscles. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed fatty infiltration in the majority of muscles in the shoulders and lower extremities. The study highlights the value of muscle MRI in monitoring disease progression and suggests further investigation into potential factors contributing to the inconsistency in muscle weakness and MRI changes. Background: It is generally beneficial and recommended that dichorionic triamniotic (DCTA) triplet pregnancies be reduced to monochorionic (MC) twin or singleton pregnancies after assisted reproductive technology (ART). However, some infertile couples still have a firm desire to retain twins. For this reason, the best foetal reduction strategies need to be available for infertile couples and clinicians. Given that data on the elective reduction of DCTA triplet pregnancies to twin pregnancies are scarce, we investigated the outcomes of elective reduction of DCTA triplet pregnancies through the retrospective analysis of previous data. Method: Patients with DCTA triplet pregnancies who underwent elective foetal reduction between January 2012 and June 2020 were recruited. A total of 67 eligible patients with DCTA triplet pregnancies were divided into two groups: a DCTA-to-dichorionic diamniotic (DCDA) twin group (n = 38) and a DCTA-to-monochorionic diamniotic (MCDA) twin group (n = 29); the basic clinical data of the two groups were collected for comparison. Results: Compared with the DCDA-to-MCDA twin group, the DCTA-to-DCDA twin group had lower rates of complete miscarriage (7.89% versus 31.03%, p = 0.014), early complete miscarriage (5.26% versus 24.14%, p = 0.034), late preterm birth (25.71% versus 65.00%, p = 0.009) and very low birth weight (0 versus 11.11%, p = 0.025). In addition, the DCTA-to-DCDA twin group had higher rates of full-term delivery (65.71% versus 25.00%, p = 0.005), survival (92.11% versus 68.97%, p = 0.023), and taking the babies home (92.11% versus 68.97%, p = 0.023) than did the DCTA-to-MCDA twin group. In terms of neonatal outcomes, a significantly greater gestational age (38.06 ± 2.39 versus 36.28 ± 2.30, p = 0.009), average birth weight (3020.77 ± 497.33 versus 2401.39 ± 570.48, p < 0.001), weight of twins (2746.47 ± 339.64 versus 2251.56 ± 391.26, p < 0.001), weight of the larger neonate (2832.94 ± 320.58 versus 2376.25 ± 349.95, p < 0.001) and weight of the smaller neonate (2660.00 ± 345.34 versus 2126.88 ± 400.93, p < 0.001) was observed in the DCTA-to-DCDA twin group compared to the DCTA-to-MCDA twin group. Conclusion: The DCTA-to-DCDA twin group had better pregnancy and neonatal outcomes than the DCTA-to-MCDA twin group. Multiple pregnancies involve several complications, most often prematurity, but also higher anomaly rates. Reducing fetuses generally improves pregnancy outcomes. We conducted this study to evaluate the obstetrical and neonatal results after multifetal pregnancy reduction (MFPR) in the largest tertiary hospital in Finland. This retrospective cohort study included all MFPR managed in Helsinki University Hospital during a 13 year period (2007–2019). Data on pregnancies, parturients and newborns were collected from patient files. The number of fetuses, chorionicities and amnionicities were defined in first-trimester ultrasound screening. There were 54 MFPR cases included in the final analyses. Most often the reduction was from twins to singletons (n=34, 63 %). Majority of these (25/34, 73.5 %) were due to co-twin anomaly. Triplets (n=16, 29.6 %) were reduced to twins (n=7, 13 %) or singletons (n=9, 16.7 %), quadruplets (n=2, 3.7 %) and quintuplets (n=2, 3.7 %) to twins. Most (33/54, 61.1 %) MFPR procedures were done by 15+0 weeks of gestation. There were six miscarriages after MFPR and one early co-twin miscarriage. In the remaining 47 pregnancies that continued as twins (n=7, 14.9 %) or singletons (n=40, 85.1 %) the liveborn rate was 90 % for one fetus and 71.4 % for two fetuses. Most MFPR cases were pregnancies with an anomalous co-twin. The whole pregnancy loss risk was 11.1 % after MFPR. The majority (70.6 %) of twins were spontaneous, whereas all quadruplets, quintuplets, and 56.3 % of triplets were assisted reproductive technologies (ART) pregnancies. STUDY QUESTION What factors influence the decision-making process of fathers regarding multifetal pregnancy reduction or maintaining a triplet pregnancy, and how do these decisions impact their psychological well-being? SUMMARY ANSWER For fathers, the emotional impact of multifetal pregnancy reduction or caring for triplets is extensive and requires careful consideration. WHAT IS KNOWN ALREADY Multifetal pregnancy reduction is a medical procedure with the purpose to reduce the number of fetuses to improve chances of a healthy outcome for both the remaining fetus(es) and the mother, either for medical reasons or social considerations. Aspects of the decision whether to perform multifetal pregnancy reduction have been rarely investigated, and the impact on fathers is unknown. STUDY DESIGN, SIZE, DURATION Qualitative study with semi-structured interviews between October 2021 and February 2023. PARTICIPANTS/MATERIALS, SETTING, METHODS Fathers either after multifetal pregnancy reduction from triplet to twin or singleton pregnancy or ongoing triplet pregnancies 1–6 years after the decision were included. The interview schedule was designed to explore key aspects related to (i) the decision-making process whether to perform multifetal pregnancy reduction and (ii) the emotional aspects and psychological impact of the decision. Thematic analysis was used to identify patterns and trends in the father's data. The process involved familiarization with the data, defining and naming themes, and producing a final report. This study was a collaboration between a regional secondary hospital (OLVG) and a tertiary care hospital (Amsterdam University Medical Center, Amsterdam UMC), both situated in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. MAIN RESULTS AND THE ROLE OF CHANCE Data saturation was achieved after 12 interviews. Five main themes were identified: (i) initial responses and emotional complexity, (ii) experiencing disparities in counselling quality and post-decision care, (iii) personal influences on the decision journey, (iv) navigating parenthood: choices, challenges, and emotional adaptation, and (v) shared wisdom and lessons. For fathers, the decision whether to maintain or reduce a triplet pregnancy is complex, in which medical, psychological but mainly social factors play an important role. In terms of psychological consequences after the decision, this study found that fathers after multifetal pregnancy reduction often struggled with difficult emotions towards the decision; some expressed feelings of doubt or regret and were still processing these emotions. Several fathers after an ongoing triplet had experienced a period of severe stress in the first years after the pregnancy, with major consequences for their mental health. Help in emotional processing was not offered to any of the fathers after the decision or birth. LIMITATION, REASONS FOR CAUTION While our study focuses on the multifetal pregnancy reduction process in the Amsterdam region, we recognize the importance of further investigation into how this process may vary across different regions in The Netherlands and internationally. We acknowledge the potential of selection bias, as fathers with more positive experiences might have been more willing to participate. Caution is needed in interpreting the role of the mother in the recruitment process. Additionally, the time span of 1–6 years between the decision and the interviews may have influenced emotional processing and introduced potential reporting bias. WIDER IMPLICATIONS OF THE FINDINGS The emotional impact of multifetal pregnancy reduction or caring for triplets is significant, emphasizing the need for awareness among caregivers regarding the emotional challenges faced by fathers. A guided trajectory might optimize the decision-making and primarily facilitate the provision of appropriate care thereafter to optimize outcomes around decisions with potential traumatic implications. Multiple pregnancies are associated with significant maternal, fetal, and neonatal risks, including prematurity, low birth weight, pre-eclampsia, anemia, postpartum hemorrhage, intrauterine growth restriction, neonatal morbidity, and increased neonatal and infant mortality rates. Assisted reproductive technology (ART) treatments should prioritize efforts to reduce such events, resisting patient demand for the transfer of multiple embryos at each transfer to increase success rates. Extended culture, embryo selection, and single blastocyst transfer can mitigate the risk of high-order multiple pregnancies. Intriguingly, elective single-embryo transfer (eSET) greatly reduces, but does not completely eliminate, the likelihood of multiple gestations. The occurrence of monozygotic twinning (MZT) gives rise to identical twins. It is more prevalent in women undergoing in vitro fertilization (IVF) compared with natural conception. In fact, the reported risks of monozygotic twinning in IVF and natural conception are 1.7 and 0.4%, respectively. The factors suspected to increase the risk of MZT in IVF are multiple embryo transfer, micromanipulation, and extended in vitro culture. Determining chorionicity and amnionicity is crucial in the assessment of multiple pregnancies during the first-trimester ultrasound examination. Dichorionic twins result from embryo splitting within 3 days after fertilization, while monochorionic twins occur when the splitting takes place between 4 and 8 days after fertilization. These timings are suggested by observations carried out in natural pregnancies. In ART, there is evidence of dichorionic twins derived from single embryo transfer (SET). Here, we report a case of dichorionic diamniotic triplets after a single blastocyst transfer occurred in our center. To our knowledge, this is the first case documented so far. We investigated whether a homozygous recessive genetic variant of NSF attachment protein beta (NAPB) gene inherited by monozygotic triplets contributed to their phenotype of early-onset epilepsy and autism. Induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) lines were generated from all three probands and both parents. The NAPB genetic variation was corrected in iPSC lines from two probands by CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing. Cortical neurons were produced by directed, in vitro differentiation from all iPSC lines. These cell line-derived neurons enabled us to determine that the genetic variation in the probands causes exon skipping and complete absence of NAPB protein. Electrophysiological and transcriptomic comparisons of cortical neurons derived from parents and probands cell lines indicate that loss of NAPB function contributes to alterations in neuronal functions and likely contributed to the impaired neurodevelopment of the triplets. Domain adaptation solves the challenge of inadequate labeled samples in the target domain by leveraging the knowledge learned from the labeled source domain. Most existing approaches aim to reduce the domain shift by performing some coarse alignments such as domain-wise alignment and class-wise alignment. To circumvent the limitation, we propose a coarse-to-fine unsupervised domain adaptation method based on metric learning, which can fully utilize more geometric structure and sample-wise information to obtain a finer alignment. The main advantages of our approach lie in four aspects: (1) it employs a structure-preserving algorithm to automatically select the optimal subspace dimension on the Grassmannian manifold; (2) based on coarse distribution alignment using maximum mean discrepancy, it utilizes the smooth triplet loss to leverage the supervision information of samples to improve the discrimination of data; (3) it introduces structure regularization to preserve the geometry of samples; (4) it designs a graph-based sample reweighting method to adjust the weight of each source domain sample in the cross-domain task. Extensive experiments on several public datasets demonstrate that our method achieves remarkable superiority over several competitive methods (more than 1.5% improvement of the average classification accuracy over the best baseline). Simple Summary: Patients who are diagnosed with multiple myeloma are given an initial sequence of treatments that usually, for those who are young and fit enough, includes high-dose melphalan followed by autologous stem cell transplantation. This has contributed to the improvement in survival seen over the past 30 years. However, high-dose melphalan has significant limitations, including short-term side effects and longer-term issues such as an increased risk of developing secondary hematologic malignancies including leukemia. There are now numerous highly efficacious combination regimens for initial treatment that result in increasingly large proportions of patients achieving deep responses with no evidence of minimal residual disease. Moreover, large, randomized studies using these regimens have shown no benefit in overall survival after receiving high-dose melphalan with stem cell transplantation. There is thus a growing rationale for selected eligible patients to defer receiving high-dose melphalan and stem cell transplantation until potentially needed in a subsequent line of treatment. The standards of care for the initial treatment of patients with newly diagnosed multiple myeloma (NDMM) who are eligible for high-dose melphalan and autologous stem cell transplantation (HDM-ASCT) include highly active triplet and quadruplet regimens based on proteasome inhibitors, immunomodulatory drugs, and monoclonal antibodies. These regimens are resulting in improved outcomes and increasingly high rates of minimal residual disease (MRD)-negative responses without HDM-ASCT as part of the upfront therapy. Furthermore, recent randomized studies have shown that, while transplant-based approaches as a frontline therapy result in significantly longer progression-free survival compared to non-transplant approaches, this has not translated into an overall survival benefit. Given these developments, and in the context of the treatment burden of undergoing HDM-ASCT, in addition to the acute toxicities and long-term sequelae of HDM, which are associated with the genotoxicity of melphalan, there is an increasing rationale for considering deferring upfront HDM-ASCT in select transplant-eligible patients and saving it as a treatment option for later salvage therapy. Here, we review the latest clinical trial data on upfront or deferred HDM-ASCT and on the activity of quadruplet induction regimens, including rates of MRD-negative responses, and summarize emerging treatment approaches in the upfront setting such as the use of MRD-directed therapy and alternatives to HDM-ASCT. Centriole duplication is a high-fidelity process driven by Polo-like kinase 4 (Plk4) and a few conserved initiators. Dissecting how Plk4 and its receptors organize within centrosomes is critical to understand the centriole duplication process and biochemical and architectural differences between centrosomes of different species. Here, at nanoscale resolution, we dissect centrosomal localization of Plk4 in G1 and S phase in its catalytically active and inhibited state during centriole duplication and amplification. We build a precise distribution map of Plk4 and its receptor Cep152, as well as Cep44, Cep192, and Cep152-anchoring factors Cep57 and Cep63. We find that Cep57, Cep63, Cep44, and Cep192 localize in ninefold symmetry. However, during centriole maturation, Cep152, which we suggest is the major Plk4 receptor, develops a more complex pattern. We propose that the molecular arrangement of Cep152 creates flexibility for Plk4 and procentriole placement during centriole initiation. Multiple gestations experience a slowing of fetal growth in the third trimester and have been described as having a higher risk of growth restriction. Whether this increased diagnosis of fetal growth restriction is physiological or pathologic is controversial. In an attempt to better identify those fetuses most at risk, twin-specific growth charts have been developed and tested. In addition, there are data to suggest that multiple gestations experience an increased risk of unexpected third-trimester stillbirth in apparently uncomplicated pregnancies. Pretrained language models (PLMs) with impressive performances in graph-to-text generation have recently been employed. However, linearized graph data will lead to the loss of triplet structure information and the problem of insufficient syntactic information when graph data are converted into sequence data by PLMs. These defects prevent PLMs from absorbing all the information that knowledge graphs hold and exerting their full potential in graph-to-text generation. To address these issues, we propose two targeted solutions. First, a relational orientation attention (ROA) module is proposed to incorporate triplet structure information into knowledge graph representations. During graph encoding, ROA establishes structural associations between entities and relations by fusing relevant relation information into entity representations. Second, the (knowledge subgraph, text) pairs are used to pretrain PLMs in text and triplet reconstruction tasks. Pretraining tasks with linearized graph data will enable PLMs to transfer learning more seamlessly between graphs and texts. The experiments with the WebNLG, WebQuestions, and PathQuestions datasets demonstrate that relational orientation attention and pretraining tasks (text and triplet reconstruction) can be implemented to capture triplet structure information and boost the learning ability of PLMs on structured data. Extracting Aspect Sentiment Triplets is a relatively new method for conducting sentiment analysis. The triplet extraction is carried out in an end-to-end way by more recent models; however, they focus a significant amount of emphasis on the interactions between each target word and opinion word. Thus, they are not capable of achieving their goals or expressing thoughts that are comprised of more than one word. More recently, In addition, there are attempts to develop a span-based method that can deal with thoughts comprised of more than one word. However, the spans are built based on the sequential information between words ignoring the syntactic structures and semantic correlations between words. We propose a Span-to-Span Multi-channel Graph Neural Network (SMGCN) to address the above issues to extract aspect and opinion words in pairs. This will allow us to address the concerns that have been raised. When attempting to anticipate the emotional connection that exists between targets and opinions, the method that we have proposed takes into account the interaction that exists between the entire span of targets and opinions. The model leverages both syntactic structures and semantic correlations to build span representations simultaneously. The model is able to make predictions based on the semantics of full spans with more consistency regarding the sentiment. Our model outperforms the baselines to extract the sentiment triplets, as shown by experimental findings obtained from three different publicly available datasets. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The issue of the relationship between pirate parties and populism has not yet been adequately resolved. This article aims to answer this question: Regarding its communication, is it possible to classify the Czech Pirate Party as a populist party? For that purpose, the Pirates' communication has been contextualized in a comparative perspective with the Czech parties ANO and SPD, which are commonly considered populist. The study uses qualitative and quantitative content analysis and the principle of triplets to measure populism. Among other things, the analysis indicates that the level of populism in the communication of the Pirates is negligible and the party cannot be identified as populist. Moreover, the anti-establishment appeal does not prevail in the communication either. Objectives: To compare the clinical outcomes of different multifetal pregnancy reduction (MFPR) programs in dichorionic (DC) triplets, and explore the association between early ultrasound characteristics and co-twin death after potassium chloride (KCl) injection into one monochorionic (MC) twin. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the data of DC triplets who underwent MFPR at our center during 2012–2021. Patients were grouped as follows: intracardiac KCl injection into one MC twin (group A), intracardiac KCl injection into both MC twins simultaneously (group B), and reduction of the singleton fetus (group C) and pregnancy outcomes were compared. Logistic regression was used to determine whether ultrasound measurements at 11–13+6 weeks predicted co-twin death and the receiver operator characteristic (ROC) analysis was conducted to assess the predictive performance. Results: Finally, we enrolled 184 patients. 153 cases were in group A, and 18, 13 cases were in group B and C respectively. Gestational age at the time of MFPR did not differ among the 3 groups (median: 12 6 7 weeks). The survival rate was 89.6%, 88.9%, and 92.3% in group A, B, and C respectively, which was comparable among groups. Preterm birth was more common in group C (10/12, 83.3%). After KCl injection into one MC twin, co-twin death occurred in 86.3% cases (132/153) within 1 day; however, 3 patients had 2 live births each, with normal postnatal development. Intertwin nuchal translucency (NT) difference/discordance significantly predicted co-twin death within 1 day after MFPR, and the areas under the ROC curve were 0.694 and 0.689, respectively. Conclusions: For MFPR in DC triplet pregnancies, reduction of the MC twins results in less preterm birth, and women with KCl injection into either one or both MC twins had similar outcomes. Forest stand and environmental factors influence soil organic carbon (SOC) storage, but little is known about their relative impacts in different soil layers. Moreover, how environmental factors modulate the impact of stand factors, particularly species mixing, on SOC storage, is largely unexplored. In this study, conducted in 21 forest triplets (two monocultures of different species and their mixture on the same site) distributed in Europe, we tested the hypothesis that stand factors (functional identity and diversity) have stronger effects on topsoil (FF + 0–10 cm) C storage than environmental factors (climatic water availability, clay + silt content, oxalate-extractable Al–Alox) but that the opposite occurs in the subsoil (10–40 cm). We also tested the hypothesis that functional diversity improves SOC storage under high climatic water availability, clay + silt contents, and Alox. We characterized functional identity as the basal area proportion of broadleaved species (beech and/or oak), and functional diversity as the product of broadleaved and conifer (pine) proportions. The results show that functional identity was the main driver of topsoil C storage, while climatic water availability had the largest control on subsoil C storage. Functional diversity decreased topsoil C storage under increasing climatic water availability, but the opposite was observed in the subsoil. Functional diversity effects on topsoil C increased with increasing clay + silt content, while its effects on subsoil C were negative at increasing Alox content. This suggests that functional diversity effect on SOC storage changes along gradients in environmental factors and the direction of effects depends on soil depth. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective To report the experiences of triplet pregnancies complicated by twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS) treated with fetoscopic laser coagulation at a single center. Methods Herein, we conducted a retrospective analysis to investigate the management and perinatal outcomes of triplet pregnancies with TTTS treated at a single institution between 2017 and 2022. Results Seven of the 98 triplet pregnancies (7.1%) encountered were complicated by TTTS, and all were dichorionic triamniotic triplets. Of the seven triplet pregnancies complicated by TTTS, four were treated with fetoscopic laser coagulation at our center, at a median gestational age of 20 weeks. No procedure-related complications or maternal complications were observed. The survival rate was higher and perinatal outcomes were better in fetoscopic laser coagulation cases than in other management cases. Four donor and four recipient triplets survived, with a median gestational age of 33 weeks at delivery. Although there were no cases of poor neonatal outcomes, one case was diagnosed with white matter injury, suspected to be hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy on postnatal investigation. Conclusion Fetoscopic laser coagulation is a feasible treatment option for triplet TTTS, provided the attending specialists have extensive experience with this technique.

High quantum yield triplets, populated by initially prepared excited singlets, are desired for various energy conversion schemes in solid working compositions like porous MOFs. However, a large disparity in the distribution of the excitonic center of mass, singlet‐triplet intersystem crossing (ISC) in such assemblies is inhibited, so much so that a carboxy‐coordinated zirconium heavy metal ion cannot effectively facilitate the ISC through spin‐orbit coupling. Circumventing this sluggish ISC, singlet fission (SF) is explored as a viable route to generating triplets in solution‐stable MOFs. Efficient SF is achieved through a high degree of interchromophoric coupling that facilitates electron super‐exchange to generate triplet pairs. Here we show that a predesigned chromophoric linker with extremely poor ISC efficiency (kISC) but ES1≥2ET1 ${{E}_{{S}_{1}}\ge {2E}_{{T}_{1}}}$ form triplets in MOF in contrast to the frameworks that are built from linkers with sizable kISC but ES1≤2ET1 ${{E}_{{S}_{1}}\le {2E}_{{T}_{1}}}$. The paper discusses the results of an experimental program devoted to the characterization of AAC masonry in shear, by studying the effect of different key parameters: test setup, block density, and mortar type. As for ordinary masonry assemblages, shear parameters of AAC masonry can be determined from either shear tests on triplets or diagonal compression tests. However, the extension of these methodologies to AAC blocks with low densities is not so straightforward and highlights some critical issues. To evaluate the influence of block density (and block strength) on the shear parameters and on the observed modes of failure, masonry triplet and diagonal compression tests were performed for AAC blocks characterized by two different densities (300 and 480 kg/m3). Moreover, for the higher density class, tests were repeated by also varying the mortar type. Although most of Standard codes mainly relates the shear resistance of thin‐layer masonry to the block material, the obtained results highlight that also the mortar type and the surface treatment before mortar application may have a not negligible influence on the final behavior. Underscoring how crop mulching changes the dissolved organic carbon (DOC) in runoff is essential to understanding the sustainable application of cornstalk mulching. This study examined the runoff DOC quantity and quality in plots with and without cornstalk mulching under various rainfall intensities in a representative steep fallow land of southwestern China. Field rainfall simulations within a 60 min duration were conducted on the triplet plots (1.5 m × 1 m for a single plot) with bare soils under 30‐ and 90‐mm h−1 intensities and with cornstalk mulching (air‐dried whole plants with 60% coverage and weight 1.65 kg per plot) under 90 mm h−1 intensity, respectively. The concentration and loss of runoff DOC and its quality variables, including SUVA254 (aromaticity of DOC), C:C (proportion of colored humic substances in DOC), and E4:E6 (fulvic acid to humic acid in DOC), are determined. Results showed that runoff DOC concentration and loss were both significantly higher at 90 mm h−1 intensity than at 30 mm h−1 intensity (p < 0.05), simultaneously, they were 52.6% and 53.2% higher in mulched plots than in bare plots (p < 0.05), respectively. Runoff SUVA254 and C:C in bare plots were 90% and 88.9% higher in 30 mm h−1 intensity than in 90 mm h−1 intensity (p < 0.05), respectively. Whereas, E4:E6 of runoff was 12.3% higher in mulched plots than that in bare plots (p < 0.05). Our findings imply that cornstalk mulching enhances the export of runoff DOC with a decline in aromaticity and the molecular weight of humic substances. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: In neonatology, multiple pregnancies are common. Unfortunately, it is not rare for one baby to die. Communication with parents in these circumstances has been demonstrated to be sub-optimal. Methods: Two educational programs were evaluated with pre- and post-course surveys, questionnaires administered to participants, and audits. Results: In the online Butterfly project (UK; n = 734 participants), all participants reported that the training exceeded or met their expectations, 97% reported they learned new skills, and 48% had already applied them. Participants expressed gratitude in their open-ended answers: "I feel a lot more confident in supporting parents in this situation". In the Ribbon project (workshop for neonatal clinicians, Quebec; n = 242), 97% were satisfied with the training and reported feeling more comfortable caring for bereaved parents. Knowledge improved pre–post training. Audits revealed that 100% of cases were identified on the incubator and the baby's/babies' admission card, all changed rooms after the death of their co-twin/triplet, and all had the name of their co-twin/triplet on the discharge summary. All clinicians (55) knew what the ribbon symbol meant when asked during surprise audits at the bedside. A kinetically‐stabilized nitrogen‐doped triangulene cation derivative has been synthesized and isolated as the stable diradical with a triplet ground state that exhibits near‐infrared emission. As was the case for a triangulene derivative we previously synthesized, the triplet ground state with a large singlet‐triplet energy gap was experimentally confirmed by magnetic measurements. In contrast to the triangulene derivative, the nitrogen‐doped triangulene cation derivative is highly stable even in solution under air and exhibits near‐infrared absorption and emission because the alternancy symmetry of triangulene is broken by the nitrogen cation. Breaking the alternancy symmetry of triplet alternant hydrocarbon diradicals by a nitrogen cation would therefore be an effective strategy to create stable diradicals possessing magnetic properties similar to the parent hydrocarbons but with different electrochemical and photophysical properties. Inspired by the notion of quasi-infinite divisibility (QID), we introduce and study the class of freely quasi-infinitely divisible (FQID) distributions on R, i.e. distributions which admit the free Lévy-Khintchine-type representation with signed Lévy measure. We prove several properties of the FQID class, some of them in contrast to those of the QID class. For example, a FQID distribution may have negative Gaussian component, and the total mass of its signed Lévy measure may be negative. Finally, we extend the Bercovici-Pata bijection, providing a characteristic triplet, with the Lévy measure having nonzero negative part, which is at the same time classical and free characteristic triplet. Assisted reproductive technology is a crucial factor that increases the incidence of monozygotic twinning in humans. This article discusses the impact of various indicators in assisted reproductive technology studies on pregnancy outcomes, especially studies with a large number of clinical cases. Furthermore, three rare cases in multiples pregnancy are discussed: fetus papyraceous of a pair of male monozygotic twins in a set of triplets, two pairs of sesquizygotic twins with sex-discordance, and rare conjoined triplets. Carbenes are a remarkable type of molecules because of the two electrons that might be paired or unpaired, providing a singlet or a triplet state, respectively. The preference for one of these states can be measured by the singlet-triplet energy gap; however, theoretical prediction is challenging when static correlation arises, and an adequate balance with dynamic correlation is required to achieve correct predictions. Piris Natural Orbital Functionals (PNOFs) have been used before to deal with other static correlation problems, but they have suffered from lack of dynamic correlation, which has been solved by coupling PNOF7 with many-body perturbation theory. Recently, the development of a Global Natural Orbital Functional (GNOF) has been proposed with the aim of including dynamic correlation without the need to couple with perturbation theory, thus becoming a promising alternative to study challenging chemical problems. In this work, we applied the PNOF family of functionals to compute the adiabatic singlet-triplet energy gaps of a set of simple carbenes and compared them with those computed with coupled-cluster methods and experimental values when available. We have found that the GNOF achieves promising results due to an intrinsic balance of static and dynamic correlation. In this regard, the GNOF presents errors that are lower than those of PNOF7, comparable to those of NOF-c-MP2, and is capable of predicting the tendency of substituent effects, proving to be suitable for further application to predict general singlet-triplet energy gaps. We describe the application of time‐resolved chemically induced dynamic nuclear polarization (TR CIDNP) in the determination of the bimolecular rate constants of triplet quenching. This method is based on the use of a CIDNP‐active reference triplet quencher with a known quenching rate constant. The quenching reaction of the triplet excited photosensitizer, 3,3′,4,4′‐tetracarboxy benzophenone (TCBP), was considered as the reaction under study. In each experiment, geminate CIDNP spectra were obtained during irradiation of the solution containing: (i) TCBP and a reference quencher; (ii) TCBP, a reference quencher, and a quencher whose triplet quenching rate constant was to be determined. The degree of decrease in the signal intensity of the reference quencher for the case (ii) compared to the case (i) depended on the desired quenching rate constant which made it possible to calculate the latter. Background: Dichorionic triamniotic (DCTA) triplet pregnancies are rare in spontaneous pregnancy. The aim was to characterize the incidence and risk factors of DCTA triplet pregnancies after assisted reproductive technology (ART). Methods: A retrospective analysis of 10,289 patients, including 3,429 fresh embryo transfer (ET) cycle and 6,860 frozen ET cycle, was performed from January 2015 to June 2020. The effect of different ART parameters on the incidence of DCTA triplet pregnancies was evaluated by multivariate logistic regression analyses. Results: Among all clinical pregnancies after ART, the incidence of DCTA was 1.24%. 1.22% occurred in the fresh ET cycle, while 1.25% occurred in the frozen ET cycle. The number of ET and cycle type has no effect on the occurrence of DCTA triplet pregnancies (p = 0.987; p = 0.056, respectively). There were significant differences in DCTA triplet pregnancies rate among receiving intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) and receiving in vitro fertilization (IVF) [1.92% vs. 1.02%, p < 0.001, OR = 0.461, 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.315-0.673], blastocyst transfer (BT) versus cleavage-ET (1.66% vs. 0.57%, P < 0.001, OR = 0.329, 95% CI 0.315-0.673), and maternal age = 35 years versus maternal age < 35 years (1.00% vs. 1.30%, P=0.040, OR = 1.773, 95% CI 1.025-3.066). Based on the regression analysis of cycle type, DCTA triplet pregnancies rate was higher in maternal age < 35 years than in maternal age = 35 years (1.35% vs. 0.97%, P < 0.001, OR = 5.266, 95% CI 2.184-12.701), BT versus cleavage-ET (1.47% vs. 0.94%; P = 0.006, OR = 0.346, 95% CI 0.163-0.735), and receiving ICSI was higher than receiving IVF (3.82% vs. 0.78%, p < 0.001, OR=0.085, 95% CI 0.039-0.189) in fresh ET cycle. However, DCTA triplet pregnancies rate did not show difference in maternal age, insemination methods, and number of ET, and only BT was found to be associated with a higher DCTA triplet pregnancies rate in the frozen ET cycle (1.73% vs. 0.30%, p < 0.001, OR = 0.179, 95% CI 0.083-0.389). Conclusion: The prevalence of DCTA triplet pregnancies has increased after ART. Maternal age < 35 years, BT, and receiving ICSI are risk factors for DCTA triplet pregnancies, also in fresh ET cycle. This study investigates the utilization of Balinese cultural terms in the writing of English as a foreign language (EFL) students. It is intended to identify how the lexicons containing local values are used considering the translation procedures in the student’s mind. This qualitative research was conducted with ATLAS.ti software to visually present the connectedness of each lexicon with one another and to report the procedures of translation the students chose. When inserting the Balinese lexicons into their writing, the students involved in this study were still influenced by the concept of translation. With the translation procedures in mind, they applied transference, literal translation, functional equivalent, descriptive equivalent, and the combination of two and three procedures, namely, couplet and triplet, to be able to communicate their ideas involving the Balinese lexicons in their English writing. This study sheds some light on the application of translation procedures when students use local language terms in their foreign language writing. The students borrowed the local lexicons and gave an additional explanation to clarify their values. This finding indicates that having the concept of translation, and particularly the procedures of translation, can assist EFL students in broadening their knowledge of the existence of Balinese cultural terms as well as utilizing them by applying translation procedures to clarify the meaning of the terms in their writing to create communicative writing. To systematically review the literature on hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP) after multifetal pregnancy reduction (MFPR). A comprehensive search in PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and Scopus was performed. Prospective or retrospective studies reporting on MFPR from triplet or higher-order to twin compared to ongoing (i.e., non-reduced) triplets and/or twins were included. A meta-analysis of the primary outcome HDP was carried out using a random-effects model. Subgroup analyses of gestational hypertension (GH) and preeclampsia (PE) were performed. Risk of bias was assessed using the Newcastle-Ottawa Quality Assessment Scale. Thirty studies with a total of 9,811 women were included. MFPR from triplet to twin was associated with a lower risk for HDP compared to ongoing triplets (OR 0.55, 95% CI, 0.37–0.83; p = 0.004). In a subgroup analysis, the decreased risk of HDP was driven by GH, and PE was no longer significant (OR 0.34, 95% CI, 0.17–0.70; p = 0.004 and OR 0.64, 95% CI, 0.38–1.09; p = 0.10, respectively). HDP was also significantly lower after MFPR from all higher-order (including triplets) to twin compared to ongoing triplets (OR 0.55, 95% CI, 0.38–0.79; p = 0.001). In a subgroup analysis, the decreased risk of HDP was driven by PE, and GH was no longer significant (OR 0.55, 95% CI 0.32–0.92; p = 0.02 and OR 0.55, 95% CI 0.28–1.06; p = 0.08, respectively). No significant differences in HDP were found in MFPR from triplet or higher-order to twin versus ongoing twins. MFPR in women with triplet and higher-order multifetal pregnancies decreases the risk of HDP. Twelve women should undergo MFPR to prevent one event of HDP. This study evaluated prognostic performance of International Staging System (ISS), revised ISS, and chromosomal abnormalities (CA) in newly diagnosed multiple myeloma patients to describe treatment patterns (cohort 1; n = 1979) and survival outcomes (cohort 2; n = 1382). In both cohorts, ∼18%, 41%, and 37% of patients were high-risk according to the R-ISS, ISS, and high-risk CA criteria, respectively. Across all risk stratification criteria, 60% of patients received triplets. In cohort 2, the median modified progression-free survival decreased with each increasing risk stage (23.5, 12.1, and 8.8 months in R-ISS I, II, and III, respectively, and 16.0, 12.7, and 10.4 months in ISS I, II, and III). Similar trends were observed in the proportions of two-year overall survival. In conclusion, R-ISS has greater discriminatory power than ISS or high-risk CA alone and can be implemented in a real-world setting. A general theory is presented describing the photo-excitation dynamics of transient, paramagnetic triplet states of aromatic molecules including their absorption properties in a molecular host crystal when irradiated by a pulsed laser beam. It is applied to the system of a pentacene doped naphthalene single crystal, where the photo-excitation of pentacene results in a highly non-equilibrium population of intermediate electronic triplet states. These paramagnetic states can be addressed to align the proton spins of the naphthalene host at moderate experimental conditions using dynamic nuclear polarisation (DNP). The photo-excitation profile and the resulting triplet state distribution, which is determined by the material and the laser parameters, leads to a corresponding proton polarisation profile. Measurements of the resulting polarisation inhomogeneity by spatially resolved neutron transmission confirm the theory. The theoretical model then allows the extraction of crucial parameters that enable quantitative investigations of the dynamics of spin systems. For applications of triplet DNP with pentacene-doped naphthalene crystals, polarisation maximum, homogeneity and buildup rate are key factors, and the theory allows the identification of optimal experimental parameters depending on the priorities placed on these factors. Dimension reduction (DR) plays an important role in single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq), such as data interpretation, visualization and other downstream analysis. A desired DR method should be applicable to various application scenarios, including identifying cell types, preserving the inherent structure of data and handling with batch effects. However, most of the existing DR methods fail to accommodate these requirements simultaneously, especially removing batch effects. In this paper, we develop a novel structure-preserved dimension reduction (SPDR) method using intra- and inter-batch triplets sampling. The constructed triplets jointly consider each anchor's mutual nearest neighbors from inter-batch, k-nearest neighbors from intra-batch and randomly selected cells from the whole data, which capture higher order structure information and meanwhile account for batch information of the data. Then we minimize a robust loss function for the chosen triplets to obtain a structure-preserved and batch-corrected low-dimensional representation. Comprehensive evaluations show that SPDR outperforms other competing DR methods, such as INSCT, IVIS, Trimap, Scanorama, scVI and UMAP, in removing batch effects, preserving biological variation, facilitating visualization and improving clustering accuracy. Besides, the two-dimensional (2D) embedding of SPDR presents a clear and authentic expression pattern, and can guide researchers to determine how many cell types should be identified. Furthermore, SPDR is robust to complex data characteristics (such as down-sampling, duplicates and outliers) and varying hyperparameter settings. The etiology of Kawasaki disease (KD) and its precise genetic basics remain unknown. Genetic variants affecting immunity have been found in some patients. The occurrence of KD in siblings is rare, but KD pedigrees with multiple affected members have been described in Japan and North America. Cases in twins have been documented. We report 2 pairs of trizygotic triplets who developed KD associated with SARS-CoV2 infection from 2 different families. Our cases show that KD is multifactorial in origin, and both infectious etiology (particularly SARS-CoV2 as in our cases) and genetic factors are relevant in the disease. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

To compare the outcomes of dichorionic triamniotic (DCTA) triplets with that of monochorionic diamniotic (MCDA) twin gestations undergoing fetoscopic laser surgery (FLS) for treatment of twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS). Retrospective cohort study of prospectively collected data of consecutive DCTA triplet and MCDA twin pregnancies with TTTS that underwent FLS at two fetal treatment centers between 2012 and 2020. Preoperative, operative and, postoperative variables were collected. Perinatal outcomes were investigated. Primary outcome was survival to birth and to neonatal period. Secondary outcomes were gestational age (GA) at birth and procedure-to-delivery interval. Literature review was conducted in which PubMed, Web of Science, and Scopus were searched from inception to September, 2020. Twenty four sets of DCTA triplets were compared to MCDA twins during the study period. There were no significant differences in survival (no survivor, single, or double survivors) to birth and to the neonatal period of the MC twin pairs of the DCTA triplets vs MCDA twins. Median GA at delivery was approximately three weeks earlier in DCTA triplets compared to MCDA twins (28.4 weeks vs 31.4 weeks, p =.035, respectively). Rates of preterm birth (PTB) less than 32 and less than 28 weeks were significantly higher in DCTA triplets compared to twins (<32 weeks: 70.8% vs 51.1%, p =.037, respectively, and <28 weeks: 37.5% vs 20.8%, p =.033, respectively). Perinatal survival including fetal and neonatal are comparable between DCTA triplets and MCDA twins. However, this might have resulted from the small sample size of the DCTA triplets. Background: The number of triplet pregnancies in the United States has increased significantly. Perinatal morbidity and mortality are higher in these pregnancies mainly due to higher preterm birth rates. Interventions to decrease the risk of preterm delivery in this population are needed. Evidence regarding cerclage placement in triplets is limited. We performed a population-based, retrospective cohort study to study the risk of preterm birth and neonatal outcomes after cerclage placement in triplet pregnancies. Methods: All U.S. triplet deliveries from 2006 to 2013 with risk factors for cervical insufficiency were selected, excluding cases with indicated preterm delivery. Cases were categorized according to cerclage placement status. The risk of preterm birth and adverse neonatal outcomes were calculated using propensity score analysis, generalized linear, and logistic regression models. Results: From ∼33 million deliveries, 43,000 were triplets, and 7308 fulfilled eligibility criteria. There was no difference in the gestational age at delivery between the cerclage and noncerclage groups, aOR (95% CI) = 1.0(0.9–1.0). The difference between the risk of preterm delivery at <34 weeks and <32 weeks was not statistically significant. The risk of the composite outcome of neonatal complications was higher in the cerclage compared to the noncerclage group, aOR (95% CI) = 1.5 (1.1–2.2). Objective: Multiple gestation increases the risk of unscheduled preterm birth (PTB), both spontaneous and indicated, leading to increased neonatal morbidity and additional healthcare costs. The purpose of this study was to determine whether cervical length (CL) assessment by 28 weeks could predict unscheduled PTB <34 weeks in triplet pregnancies. Secondary outcomes included prediction of PTB <30 weeks, prediction of PTB based on degree of cervical change and effect of ART-use on PTB. Methods: This was a retrospective cohort of women with triplet pregnancies. The exposure variable of interest was short cervix < 25 and <20 millimeters (mm) by 28 weeks. Maternal characteristics were described. The distribution of CLs was analyzed by the primary outcome of unscheduled PTB < 34 weeks, and by PTB <30 weeks (secondary outcome). Gestational age at delivery was compared between women with and without a short cervix. Changes in CL were compared between the groups with unscheduled PTB and those delivering ≥34 and ≥30 weeks. Statistical analyses were performed using appropriate tests. Results: Of 92 triplet pregnancies, 51 met the criteria, with 1233 total (411 shortest) CL measurements from 16 to 34 weeks' gestation. The overall rate of PTB <34 weeks was 31.4% and <30 weeks was 9.8%. The median gestational age at delivery was 32.7 (IQR 2.3) weeks. There were no statistically significant differences in rates of unscheduled PTB in women who had a short cervix and those that did not: PTB <34 weeks with CL <25mm (p=.53) and CL <20mm (p=.70); PTB <30 weeks with CL <25mm (p=.38) and CL <20mm (p=.26). The degree of cervical change from 18 to 28 weeks was not statistically significant for predicting unscheduled PTB <34 and <30 weeks. Of 70.6% of triplet pregnancies conceived by ARTs, 13.9% had unscheduled PTB <30 weeks, whereas no spontaneously-conceived pregnancies delivered <30 weeks (p=.14). Conclusion: Short cervix did not predict unscheduled spontaneous PTB <34 weeks nor <30 weeks in our triplet cohort, nor did the degree of cervical change by 28 weeks predict PTB. The biopsychosocial etiology of gender dysphoria is poorly understood, but current thought suggests a complex interaction of genetic, hormonal, environmental, and differences in brain development and physiology. Twin studies have implicated a genetic role in the formation of gender identity. Congruence for gender dysphoria is more common among monozygotic twins compared to dizygotic twins. We present a case of monozygotic (identical) triplets who have each transitioned from female to male under the care of a university transgender health service. Each triplet experienced gender dysphoria from childhood and has undergone transitional endocrine care and various aspects of gender-affirming surgery. Although a pure genetic or biological component cannot be attributed as a cause of their gender dysphoria with absolute certainty since the triplets were raised together, this unusual case of gender dysphoria among a set of monozygotic triplets adds support for a heritable role in gender identity formation. Synaptic plasticity is characterized by remodeling of existing synapses caused by strengthening and/or weakening of connections. This is represented by long-term potentiation (LTP) and long-term depression (LTD). The occurrence of a presynaptic spike (or action potential) followed by a temporally nearby postsynaptic spike induces LTP; conversely, if the postsynaptic spike precedes the presynaptic spike, it induces LTD. This form of synaptic plasticity induction depends on the order and timing of the pre- and postsynaptic action potential, and has been termed spike time-dependent plasticity (STDP). After an epileptic seizure, LTD plays an important role as a depressor of synapses, which may lead to their complete disappearance together with that of their neighboring connections until days after the event. Added to the fact that after an epileptic seizure the network seeks to regulate the excess activity through two key mechanisms: depressed connections and neuronal death (eliminating excitatory neurons from the network), LTD becomes of great interest in our study. To investigate this phenomenon, we develop a biologically plausible model that privileges LTD at the triplet level while maintaining the pairwise structure in the STPD and study how network dynamics are affected as neuronal damage increases. We find that the statistical complexity is significantly higher for the network where LTD presented both types of interactions. Purpose The aim of this study was to evaluate the course and outcome of retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) in babies of multiple pregnancies (twin and triplet neonates). Patients and methods This is a retrospective study in which we reviewed the records of 128 babies (all twin and triplet neonates), who were admitted to the biggest neonatal ICU in El Mahalla El-Kubra City, Gharbeya province, Egypt over the period between January 1, 2019 and July 1, 2021. The clinical information about perinatal neonates was collected. The main outcome measures were incidence, course, and final outcome of ROP in terms of regression (spontaneous or after treatment) or progression. The relationship of the clinical risk factors and the development of ROP were also analyzed.
