This exploratory study asked 86 emerging adults with criminal legal involvement – ages 18–25 – about their social network characteristics, relationship and support perceptions, mental health, and substance use. Social networks were seen as positive sources of support and advice. A higher proportion of alcohol consumers in one’s social network was linked to alcohol and marijuana misuse. Individuals with mental illness had more substance users in their social network. Social network characteristics were not linked to receiving mental health services. Future research should explore strategies to identify risk factors within social networks while acknowledging the supportive role of social networks. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In sub-Saharan Africa, adolescents and young adults make up 30–35% of the population. However, 14% are reported to struggle with some psychological distress. Because mental health is often stigmatized in Africa, many adolescents conceal their psychological distress, further compounding their mental health challenges. This study used the Youth Outcome Questionnaire to assess psychological distress in a group of adolescents (n = 333) in three regions in Ghana – Savannah, Central, and Greater Accra. A one-way ANOVA revealed statistically significant differences in distress based on location. The differences existed only in adolescents from Savannah and Central but not Greater Accra. Additionally, a Hotelling T2 test revealed that social isolation and depression-anxiety were statistically significantly different based on gender; there were no differences in conduct problems. Fatherhood is rooted in various cultural, societal, and even religious belief systems. In the South African context, where fathers are often perceived to be absent or uninvolved, fathers’ parental identity development might be hindered. This study focused on fathers’ commitment, exploration, and reconsideration in the process of forming a parental identity within the South African sociocultural context. Eight emerging and early adult black South African fathers were interviewed. Through reflexive thematic analysis, a nuanced visage of fatherhood that carries both the old ideologies of material provision and the newfound valuing of nurturing care was constructed. The complexities of balancing ideas of fatherhood, manhood, and personhood were evident in how participants struggled to align their aspirations of being physically present and emotionally engaged fathers with the reality of being providers in a financially strenuous context. Participants embraced the idea of a family unit as a foundation and also appreciated the value of communal notions of child-rearing. While the challenging nature of fatherhood was often met with reconsideration, a firm commitment was evident. This qualitative inquiry into the experiences of fatherhood addresses the personal, socio-economic, and cultural aspects embedded in the formation of parental identity among black South African men. Background: Individuals' concealment of negative information and privacy may lead to impaired social interactions and threatened health conditions. This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of the Self-Concealment Scale (SCS) in the middle-aged Chinese population and to examine the equivalence of the SCS among different age groups. Methods: The current research adopted the SCS, Distress Disclosure Index (DDI), Revised Cheek and Buss Shyness Scale (RCBS), Social Interaction Anxiety Scale (SIAS), Social Phobia Scale (SPS), UCLA Loneliness Scale (ULS-8), and Kessler Psychological Distress Scale (K10) to survey 1124 middle-aged people. To explore the factor structure of the SCS, the study employed exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis. The reliability of the SCS was measured based on Cronbach's α coefficients, McDonald's Omega coefficients, and split-half reliability. Correlation analysis was applied to examine the relationship between SCS and RCBS, SIAS, SPS, ULS-8, and K10. Moreover, this study recruited 1458 emerging adults and 1104 older adults to identify the cross-age invariance of the SCS. Results: Exploratory factor analysis of the middle aged adults' data supported a single factor model. The factor loadings of SCS items ranged from 0.62 to 0.73, the commonality ranged from 0.39 to 0.53, and the single-factor model fitted well. The scale showed a Cronbach's α coefficient value of 0.895, McDonald's Omega coefficient of 0.893, and a split-half reliability coefficient value of 0.861. In addition, the SCS demonstrated invariance in emerging adults, middle-aged adults, and older adults. Further analysis showed that the scores of the SCS (F = 3.55, p = 0.029) among emerging adults (M = 26.43, SD = 7.96) were significantly higher than among middle-aged (M = 25.77, SD = 7.79), and older cohort (M = 25.69, SD = 7.91). Conclusion: The SCS revealed favorable psychometric characteristics among the middle-aged Chinese population. ABSTRACT Background Methods Results Discussion Psychiatric disorders often emerge during adolescence or young adulthood, leading to significant disability among youth. The transition from Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) to Adult Mental Health Services (AMHS) is critical for individuals experiencing emerging psychopathology, with delayed access to care negatively impacting long‐term outcomes. Accessing mental health services for adolescents and young adults is often complex and delayed due to challenges in service visibility, accessibility and appropriateness.This study examines the care trajectories of individuals consecutively accessing the early detection and intervention (EDI) centre C'JAAD (Evaluation Centre for Young Adults and Adolescents) in Paris (France) over the year 2021. The main goal was to clarify the role of this EDI centre in the continuity of care and transition to AMHS. Data about their history of care, hospitalisations and referral sources were collected retrospectively.The sample comprised 194 individuals, with 57.2% males and a median age of 20 years. Most patients (67.5%) were ≥18 years old upon arrival, with 31% in a situation of not being in education, employment, or training (NEET). Over one‐third (35.2%) had prior psychiatric hospitalisations. Patients were mainly referred to our EDI centre from other hospital departments (42.3%). Regarding care in CAMHS, 50.3% of the total sample had medical follow‐up during childhood, of whom 41.9% had discontinued care upon arrival at the EDI centre. The median onset age of care in CAMHS was 14, with a median duration of 12 months. Adult patients experienced an approximately 3‐year gap between the end of CAMHS care and assessment at the EDI centre.The sample's characteristics resemble those of other EDI centres, but concerns persist regarding referral timing and the NEET status of many youths. Lack of prior medical follow‐up and challenges in transitioning to AMHS underscore the need to enhance care continuity and address difficulties in accessing care during the transition to adulthood. Growing concerns for loneliness, social isolation, and the health of young adults point to the importance of the dating context. This study aimed to identify and examine quality dating experience (QDE) and poor dating experience (PDE) relative to the well-being of religious college students identified as members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including gender differences. Focus group (n = 58) and online survey (n = 515) participants came from introductory psychology courses at a large religious institution. A mixed-methods design was used to qualitatively identify quality and poor dating themes and then, using these themes, examine the dating experience using quantitative data from an online survey questionnaire. Focus group thematic analyses revealed patterns of gender similarity (e.g., compatibility, safety concerns, hyper-focus on marriage) and disparity (e.g., monetary value, date activity details) for both QDE and poor dating experience (PDE). Quantitative survey results highlighted substantial relationships between QDE, PDE, and wellness variables including mood, life satisfaction, depressive symptoms, anxiety, stress, loneliness, physical health symptoms, and perceived peer support. Interestingly, men had statistically stronger (p < .05) relationships between PDE and 3 health variables: depressive symptoms, peer support, and interpersonal conflict. This suggests that men may have more adverse health profiles than women when undergoing PDEs in a more traditional religious context. Results supported QDE and PDE as influential variables that go beyond the simple metric of dating frequency to capture a more comprehensive perspective of health among religious college students, including gender differences. Introduction: This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of different forms of harm from others' drinking (HFOD), predictors and the relationship with multi‐dimensional quality of life among young adults in an emerging alcohol market in Asia—Taiwan. Methods: Data were extracted from a 2018 household survey with national representativeness on substance use experiences. The analytic sample comprised 4901 participants aged 18–34. Eight items were used to measure HFOD experiences. Five‐dimensional quality of life was assessed by the EQ‐5D‐5L. Multivariable regressions with complex survey analyses were performed to estimate the prevalence and risk association. Results: Almost 4.2% of young adults experienced any form of HFOD; psychological harm occurred more prevalently than physical harm (3.7% and 1.5%, respectively). Those aged 25–29 and 30–34 had a two‐ to three‐fold risk of HFOD compared with those aged 18–24. Both non‐drunk drinking and drunk drinking were associated with an increased risk of psychological HFOD (adjusted odds ratio 2.36 and 5.89, respectively), whereas the risk of physical HFOD was related only to drunk drinking (adjusted odds ratio 7.8). Psychological HFOD victimisation emerged as the strongest predictor for deteriorated quality of life (adjusted b −0.14; 95% confidence interval −0.24, −0.04), especially in the dimensions of pain/discomfort and anxiety/depression. Among HFOD victims, only 33% sought help. Discussion and Conclusions: The HFOD among young adults, commonly exhibited in psychological form, was linked with deteriorated quality of life; nonetheless, young HFOD victims are under‐recognised. The transition from adolescence to young adulthood is a critical period in the development of an individual's long-term health behaviour. Health literacy is a critical factor in promoting and maintaining health-enhancing behaviours and preventing non-communicable diseases. Undergraduate students often have limited health literacy, regardless of their educational experience. This quantitative study compared the health literacy of a sample of undergraduate students enrolled in degree programmes in the Faculty of Health Sciences with a similar sample from the Faculty of Humanities at a South African university. The Health Literacy Questionnaire was used to measure health literacy across nine subscales. The sample included 77 participants (n = 77). An independent samples t -test and Mann–Whitney U test were employed to compare the health literacy of students from the two faculties. The study found that students enrolled in the Faculty of Health Sciences generally demonstrated higher health literacy levels across several subscales compared to those from the Faculty of Humanities. This research contributes to understanding the disparities in health literacy among undergraduate students across distinct academic disciplines, underscoring the importance of implementing interventions to enhance health-related knowledge within specific academic domains. Emerging adulthood is synonymous with high levels of stress and uncertainty, often resulting in anxiety and depression, which negatively impact mental health and well-being. Exploring the experiences of anxiety and depression symptomology in decisional situations enhances our understanding of their role in emerging adult mental health and well-being. This study examined whether decision-making styles predict anxiety and depression symptomology among emerging adults in South Africa. The cross-sectional study collected data using a secure, online platform. All data were analysed using R for descriptive and inferential statistics. Partial least squares structural equation modelling was performed using R seminr package. The sample consisted of 1411 emerging adults with a mean age of 21.81 years, who engaged in both adaptive and maladaptive decision-making. Among the participants, 74.2% were at risk of a clinical diagnosis for an anxiety disorder, and 37.3% for depression/mood disorder. Structural equation modelling indicated that adaptive decision-making led to a reduction in anxiety and depression symptomology, while maladaptive decision-making had the opposite effect. The findings highlight implications for emerging adult mental health, particularly how understanding the connections with decision-making can enhance intervention outcomes and improve mental health and mental health literacy among emerging adults in South Africa. Although family and school experiences play an important role in adolescents' adjustment during the transition to high school, most prior studies investigated the effects of these experiences in isolation; their joint implications for both adolescents' concurrent and long-term adjustment outcomes are less clear, and the potential role of individual characteristics within such associations remains understudied. Based on 525 10th graders (Mage = 15.48, SDage = 0.71, 43.6% boys) who participated in a longitudinal study, the present research aimed to identify distinct family and school experience profiles among first-year high school students and examine their associations with adolescents' internalizing problems and externalizing problems, both concurrently and 18 months later. Latent profile analysis revealed four distinctive profiles: thriving, low resources—moderate family risk, developmental stress—high parental conflicts, and developmental stress—high peer victimization profiles. The other three profiles (vs. the thriving profile) reported significantly higher levels of concurrent internalizing problems; while these differences diminished after 18 months. However, the enduring impacts of these profiles on internalizing problems persisted among adolescents with higher levels of environmental sensitivity. Additionally, adolescents characterized by two developmental stress profiles (vs. the thriving profile) exhibited significantly higher levels of externalizing problems both currently and longitudinally. Findings underscore the importance of identifying at-risk populations among adolescents during the transition to high school by including both family and school experiences when examining environmental influence on their adjustment, as well as the necessity to take individual environmental sensitivity into account when examining these associations. Background: Parents' conceptualizations of adulthood for their emerging adults with Down syndrome have the potential to impact the transition planning process as families prepare for life after graduation. Aims: This study aimed to explore parent perceptions of the meaning of adulthood for their emerging adults with Down syndrome. Methods: In this qualitative study, we interviewed 11 parents of emerging adults with Down syndrome using phenomenological methodology and analysed these data using thematic analysis. Results: Three topics emerged: (1) Parents' constructions of the meaning of adulthood; (2) Parents' perceptions about the transition to adulthood; and (3) Parents' perceptions of current adult life skills. Ten themes arose out of these topics. Conclusions: Parents expressed ambivalence about the meaning of adulthood for their emerging adults with Down syndrome, sharing that in some ways they were adults and in others they were not. Background: India has a significant prevalence of people with intellectual disabilities. Despite their higher prevalence, they receive poor support. Therefore, this review aims to explore the experiences of family carers in providing care for children with intellectual disabilities in India. Methods: A qualitative evidence synthesis was undertaken, searching databases such as MEDLINE, CINAHL, Web of Science, and PsycInfo up to October 2023. Grey literature was also searched for unpublished studies, with two reviewers assessing methodological quality. Eleven eligible studies, mostly qualitative in design, were included in the review. The data synthesis followed a thematic approach. Results: The synthesis found five themes representing family carers' experiences and perspectives. These were 'resilience and acceptance', 'parental response', 'care dynamic', 'preparing for transition to adulthood' and 'parental advocacy'. Previous studies on exposure to violence lack a nuanced understanding of the causal effects of different exposure types on offending behaviors. This study, drawing on Pathways to Desistance Study (PDS) data tracking 1354 adjudicated youths aged 14–18 over 7 years, explores the contemporaneous (cross‐sectional), acute (after 1 year), enduring (after 3 years), and long‐term (after 6 years) causal effects of violence exposure on property and violent offending. The sample, predominantly male (86%), consisted of White (20%), Black (42%), and other (38%) individuals. The generalized propensity score is used to match unbalanced covariates across multiple exposure types, namely noninvolved (n = 392), witnessed (n = 577), experienced (n = 31), and experienced‐witnessed violence (n = 305). Results demonstrate the contemporaneous, acute, enduring, and long‐term effects of violence exposure on both violent and property offending, with varying durations and strengths across exposure types. The most pronounced risk effects are immediate, diminishing over time and potentially reversing in the long term as youth transition into adulthood. Among exposure types, experienced‐witnessed violence exhibits the most potent effects on offending, followed by witnessed violence and then experienced violence—a pattern consistent across the observed time points. Noteworthy is the finding that the impact of violence exposure is more pronounced for violent offending, diminishing more rapidly compared to the effects on property offending. Although there is extensive research on the adulthood criteria endorsed by emerging adults, there is very limited evidence on the comparison between emerging adults and their parents regarding this issue. Moreover, in these comparison studies, only quantitative methodology was used. Therefore, the present study uses a mixed-method design to investigate similarities and differences in the prevalence of the endorsed adulthood criteria between emerging adults and their parents, between male and female emerging adults, and between fathers and mothers. Participants were 251 emerging adult students, aged 18.0 to 25.9 (M = 19.9; 50.2% females), and 341 parents of these emerging adults, aged 33.6 to 61.9 (M = 50.4; 58.4% mothers). They completed the Markers of Adulthood Scale and named the three criteria that they considered most important for a person to be considered an adult. An inductive-deductive coding scheme was used. The analyses exhibited a high consensus between emerging adults and their parents in the endorsement of adulthood criteria. Only criteria related to Independence and to the Self were reported more frequently by emerging adults than their parents. A strong agreement between genders in both age groups was also found. The contribution of this study is twofold. First, it supports the idea that in Greece adulthood is a construct that is largely shared by emerging adults and their parents. Background: Solid organ transplantation (SOT) offers improved long‐term survival for youth with end‐stage organ disease. From a neurodevelopmental, cognitive, and academic perspective, children with solid organ transplant have a number of unique risk factors. While cognitive functioning may improve post‐transplantation, it is important to understand the trajectory of neurocognitive development starting in transplant candidacy to evaluate the implications of early deficits. Aim: The aim of this paper is to describe the neurocognitive risks and long‐term implications for adolescent transplant recipients. Method: This paper provides an overview of neurocognitive functioning in youth with end‐stage organ dysfunction with discussion of implications for adolescent transplant recipients. Results: Post‐transplant, adolescent, and young adult solid organ transplant recipients exhibit significant levels of executive dysfunction, with implications for decision‐making, regimen adherence, and transition to adult transplant care. Conclusion: Transplantation may reduce the risk for poor long‐term neurocognitive effects, yet adolescent transplant recipients remain at increased risk, particularly in executive functioning, which has implications for adherence and transition to adulthood. Baseline and follow‐up assessments for youth with end‐stage organ disease and transplant are important for the monitoring of neurocognitive development and may be used to mitigate risk for low adherence to post‐transplantation treatment regimens and reduce barriers to transitioning to adult transplant care. Influencers are pairing motivational captions with sexualized imagery in a recent Instagram trend. The negative impact of thin-ideal social media images paired with fitspiration captions (i.e. fitness-based captions) or disclaimer captions (i.e. warning labels) on women has been established; however, this study explored a new caption: the motivational caption. Unlike their accompanying images that emphasize a sexualized, thin-ideal body, motivational captions do not mention appearance but instead provide (seemingly) uplifting content. Utilizing an experimental survey, 589 emerging adult women were randomly assigned to view sexualized photos paired with one of three caption types: sexualizing, motivational, or neutral. Participants reported mood pre- and post-exposure, appearance comparison, self-objectification, belief that sex is power, and impressions of models. Findings revealed mood worsened in the sexualizing caption condition pre- to post- exposure compared to neutral captions. Women in the motivational caption condition reported more positive impressions of the models than women in the sexualizing caption condition. The discussion explores the potential implications of an influencer's sexualized image/motivational caption's implied message: in order to achieve mental/emotional success, you must also achieve a sexualized physical self. Asian rice gall midge is one of the important pests of rice, which attacks the crop from nursery to the end of the tillering stage. Managing this pest through plant resistance is the most viable and economical. Two hundred‐two rice genotypes were phenotyped against Asian rice gall midge, Orseolia oryzae (Wood‐Mason) and the mechanism of resistance in terms of antixenosis and antibiosis was studied. Antixenosis mechanism for adult settlement and egg laying indicated that the susceptible genotypes were preferred more than the resistant genotypes in a free choice test. First instar maggots were found and did not continue their growth on resistant genotypes further. However, in susceptible genotypes, they molted successfully and emerged as adults. No choice tests revealed that the emergence of adults in susceptible genotypes took less time than in resistant genotypes. Higher adult sex ratio was found in susceptible genotypes. Estimation of biochemical components in rice shoot apices of selected genotypes revealed that higher levels of total phenols, wax content, total flavonoids and total free amino acids were present in the resistant genotypes. Still, the number of total sugars, reducing sugars and total protein contents were significantly higher in the susceptible genotypes. Hence, the resistance mechanism in rice gall midge was displayed as a combination of antixenosis and antibiosis mechanism. This paper explores how the COVID‐19 pandemic affected care leavers in Quebec, a social group already facing obstacles to social integration. Semi‐structured qualitative interviews were conducted with 48 participants and analysed through Castel's zones of vulnerability model. Results suggest that youth who entered the pandemic with more vulnerabilities were more affected by it in all dimensions of their lives. However, results also suggest that the presence of a strong social support network protects even the most vulnerable ones from being overly afflicted, highlighting the importance of interventions that reinforce care leaver's social support network during times of crisis. This study describes U.S. emerging adults who entered foster care in 2019 using data from the Adoption and Foster Care Analysis and Reporting System (AFCARS). Results showed that 2,763 (1.1%) of individuals who entered care were 18 or older. Eighty-five percent had been discharged from foster care in the past three years, most were either racialized as white (46.4%) or Black/African American (43.3%), 55.7% were female and 44.3% male, and over half had a clinically diagnosed disability. Given prior literature focused on the Developmental Origins of Health and Disease framework, there is strong rationale to hypothesize that reducing depression in the prenatal period will cause improvements in offspring cardiometabolic health. The current review outlines evidence that prenatal depression is associated with offspring cardiometabolic risk and health behaviors. We review evidence of these associations in humans and in nonhuman animals at multiple developmental periods, from the prenatal period (maternal preeclampsia, gestational diabetes), neonatal period (preterm birth, small size at birth), infancy (rapid weight gain), childhood and adolescence (high blood pressure, impaired glucose–insulin homeostasis, unfavorable lipid profiles, abdominal obesity), and into adulthood (diabetes, cardiovascular disease). In addition to these cardiometabolic outcomes, we focus on health behaviors associated with cardiometabolic risk, such as child eating behaviors, diet, physical activity, and sleep health. Our review focuses on child behaviors (e.g., emotional eating, preference for highly palatable foods, short sleep duration) and parenting behaviors (e.g., pressuring child to eat, modeling of health behaviors). These changes in health behaviors may be detected before changes to cardiometabolic outcomes, which may allow for early identification of and prevention for children at risk for poor adult cardiometabolic outcomes. We also discuss the methods of the ongoing Care Project, which is a randomized clinical trial to test whether reducing prenatal maternal depression improves offspring's cardiometabolic health and health behaviors in preschool. The goal of this review and the Care Project are to inform future research, interventions, and policies that support prenatal mental health and offspring cardiometabolic health. Public Significance Statement: Prenatal depression is pervasive and is associated with poorer offspring development and health. The current review synthesizes evidence of biological and behavioral pathways by which prenatal depression may influence offspring cardiometabolic health. Many Black young adults engage in their communities through critical action, or activism, as they transition into adulthood. However, knowledge about predictors of critical action remain sparse. The present longitudinal study addresses this gap by exploring links between critical action, ethnic-racial identity, and racial discrimination among 143 Black youth who were surveyed as adolescents (M age = 15; 66% female) and again as young adults (M age = 20). Using hierarchical logistic regression, we found that young adult experiences of racial discrimination were related to increased odds of critical action, accounting for adolescent racial discrimination, gender, caregiver education, and postsecondary enrollment. We also found that criminalizing discriminatory experiences (e.g., being stopped by the police) during young adulthood were related to increased odds of critical action. Our findings document changes in racial discrimination and ethnic-racial identity during the transition to adulthood and suggest that some marginalized youth may transform adverse experiences into critical action. Parents have long been concerned with the transition to adulthood of their children with intellectual and developmental disability (IDD) particularly with financial issues. The purpose of this study was to explore the financial concerns of mothers of adults with IDD. Five mothers of adults with IDD participated in a focus group to share their experiences, opinions, concerns, and challenges related to finances. Five themes emerged from the qualitative data analysis: (a) job-related difficulties, (b) living expenses, (c) access to essential services, (d), skills deficits and/or challenging behavior, and (e) long-term care. Mothers in general indicated tremendous financial burdens, loss of income, and expressed concerns about long-term care of their children with IDD. Background: Childhood exercise enhances brain structure, while diabetes detrimentally affects it. This study examines early-life exercise's influence on adult diabetic rats' memory and neuroplasticity. Methods: Male Wistar pups were divided into Control, Diabetes, Exercise Training, and Diabetes exercise groups. Diabetes was induced on day 23 with Alloxan (200 mg/kg). A 3-week regimen included aerobic and resistance training thrice weekly. The aerobic intensity was 70%, and resistance varied from 50% to 100% of the maximal carrying capacity (MCC). Following the last training sessions, spatial memory and retrieval tests were performed in infancy, childhood, and emerging adulthood using the Morris Water Maze test (MWM). The hippocampus was excised to measure protein and gene expression of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), calmodulin-dependent protein kinase (CAMKII), N-methyl-D-aspartate receptors (NMDAR), and cAMP-response element-binding protein (CREB) by western blotting and reverse transcription–polymerase-chain reaction (RT-PCR) methods. Blood samples were collected during each developmental stage to measure glucose levels, at the study's conclusion, to assess Interleukin-1β levels using the ELISA method. The Nissel staining assessed dead hippocampal cells in CA1. Results: Post-natal exercise improved spatial memory (p < 0.05) and glucose levels (p < 0.05) in diabetic rats during adolescence and emerging adulthood. Despite reduced mRNA expression (NMDAR 40%, BDNF 62%, CREB 43%, CAMKII 66%), diabetic rats, by study end, showed increased BDNF, NMDARR, CAMKII, CREB protein/gene expression (p < 0.05) in emerging adulthood for both training groups. Conclusion: Early-life exercise influenced hippocampal BDNF/NMDAR-CAMKII/CREB pathways in a diabetic rat model, highlighting post-natal exercise's role in neuroplasticity memory enhancement and improved glucose level. Key Points: Question: What is the association of age at major depressive disorder (MDD) onset with progression to bipolar disorder (BD) in adolescents and adults? Findings: In this cohort study of 228 individuals in the Stockholm MDD Cohort (2010-2013), youths with MDD were found to be more than 50% less likely to transition early to BD compared with adults, with notable reductions in inpatient care and antidepressant use following BD diagnosis for both groups and without an increase in lithium prescriptions. Meaning: These findings suggest that adolescents may experience delayed BD progression and that diagnosis is associated with a substantial reduction in inpatient care in all age groups, coinciding with a decreased use of antidepressants. Importance: Bipolar disorder (BD) often first appears in adolescence after onset of major depressive disorder (MDD), but diagnosis and treatment are commonly delayed. This delay is a concern because untreated BD is associated with adverse long-term outcomes, a more recurrent disease course and difficult-to-treat illness, and suicide attempts and deaths. Objective: To examine the association of age at MDD onset with early transition to BD and the subsequent use of psychiatric inpatient services as a severity indicator. Design, Setting, and Participants: This retrospective cohort study analyzed comprehensive data sourced from the Stockholm MDD Cohort data from 1997 to 2018, which encompass both outpatient and inpatient care. Individuals with an initial MDD episode from January 1, 2010, to December 31, 2013, who transitioned to BD by December 31, 2018, were identified. Data were analyzed between September 5 and December 28, 2023. Exposures: Post MDD assessments included a depression severity index, comorbidities, psychotherapy, psychotropic drugs, and electroconvulsive therapy. Main Outcomes and Measures: The main outcome was the transition from MDD to BD, dichotomized as occurring early (within 3 years of MDD onset) or late (3 years after MDD onset). Secondary outcomes encompassed the use of psychiatric inpatient services post transition and patterns of medication usage. A robust propensity score matching framework was used to estimate outcomes. Results: The final balanced cohort included 228 individuals, with an equal distribution between adults (n = 114; mean [SD] age, 24.5 [6.3] years; 96 female [84.2%]; 20 experiencing an early transition to BD [17.5%]) and youths (n = 114; mean [SD] age, 15.3 [1.6] years; 93 female [81.6%]; 8 experiencing an early transition to BD [7.0%]). Youths were substantially less likely to transition early (odds ratio, 0.42; 95% CI, 0.20-0.88; P =.02), despite having more outpatient visits (mean [SD] visits per month, 1.21 [1.07] vs 0.97 [0.98] for adults; P =.01). Both groups experienced substantially reduced inpatient care following a BD diagnosis, concurring with a marked decline in antidepressant use without increased lithium use. Conclusions and Relevance: These findings suggest that adolescents may experience delayed BD progression and that diagnosis substantially reduced inpatient care in all age groups, which coincided with a reduction in the use of antidepressants. This study uses data from a retrospective survey of the life history of participants from five cohorts born between 1930 and 1979, to analyze the role of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs). We found that ACEs have significant effects on the transition of young Chinese people into adulthood. Young people who have experienced more ACEs were more likely to transition to adulthood earlier, and accelerate their acceptance of adult social roles, and young adults with a high incidence of ACEs also have an increasing probability of falling into the disadvantaged or least successful trajectory to adulthood. More ACEs are associated with a decreased probability of being classified into the delayed and advantaged trajectories into adulthood characterized by high education and stable work, and an increased probability of being classified into the early and disadvantaged trajectories into adulthood characterized by unemployment, early marriage, and more children. Religion is an important cultural institution that shapes family ideologies and behaviors. Although previous research has documented religious differences in parenting behaviors and parent–child relationships in adolescence, how religion influences parental support of young adult children is not clear. Using data from the Transition into Adulthood Supplement (TAS) of the Panel Study of Income Dynamics (PSID, 2005–2017; N = 9,754 person-years), we employed mixed-effect logistic and linear regression models to examine the impacts of young adults' religious affiliation, religious salience, and parent–child religious concordance on parental coresidence and financial support. The results show that mainline Protestant and Catholic young adults are more likely than nonreligious youth to live with their parents. Catholic and Jewish young adults receive more financial support from their parents than nonreligious youth did when they are religiously concordant with their mother. The purpose of this study was to explore career outcomes in young adulthood among adolescents with ADHD and/or high abilities. The sample included respondents who had the ability and ADHD measures from Waves 1 (1995), 3 (2002), and 4 (2009) of the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent and Adult Health in-home questionnaire. Using multiple group path analysis, we examined the pathways for three groups of individuals (i.e., ADHD, high ability, and both/twice-exceptional). We discovered financial and educational family background predicted occupational status and career goal attainment, as well as supports and barriers among various family and adolescent predictors (e.g., school attachment, educational aspiration, depressive symptoms). Religious self-socialization theory posits that chosen exposure to religion can impact future attitudes and behaviors via the internalization of religious messages, but emerging adults in the United States tend to decrease their participation in religious activities during college. Therefore, unique outcomes may arise for the few that maintain or increase religious activity. The present longitudinal study examines whether and how an increase in Bible reading during college impacts various religious and prosocial outcomes for a sample of 295 college students at a Christian university. On average, Bible reading frequency, closeness to God, and social altruism remained constant from first year to senior year, whereas Christian orthodoxy and civic engagement decreased. Multiple regression analyses revealed that an increase in Bible reading was associated with increases in Christian orthodoxy and closeness to God as indicators of religiosity as well as civic engagement and social altruism as indicators of prosociality. The COVID-19 pandemic, a global health crisis, was acutely felt in the labour market for many young workers. Importantly, precarious employment, identified as an emergent social determinant of health, may negatively affect the mental health and well-being of young workers. To this end, we engaged with young workers to understand their workplace needs and challenges in the COVID-19 era and hear their recommendations for action. Semi-structured interviews and a graphic recording focus group were conducted with 33 young workers aged 18–26 years old in Manitoba, Canada, who had worked a minimum of 30 hours per week prior to COVID-19 onset and were living independent of their parents. Analysis involved delineating units of meaning from the data, clustering these to form thematic statements and extracting themes. Second-level analysis involved applying themes and sub-themes to a social determinants of health framework. The multifaceted, compounding realities of young workers' pre-COVID-19 employment situations were amplified by the COVID-19 pandemic, adversely impacting young worker's mental health. Unique findings from this study highlight the generational differences in this cohort, who are opposed to participating in fragmented systemic structures (neoliberalism) and inequitable employment conditions, and who yearn for social inclusion and work-life balance. Their recommendations for government and employers call for permanent and stable employment opportunities, economic and mental health supports, and space to be heard and valued, as they navigate the many life course challenges as emerging adults. Societies are dependent on young workers to develop and support the Canadian economy for future generations. Thus, it is a critical that recommendations proposed by young workers in this study be acted upon and implemented to provide an equitable, stable, and supportive future for young workers in Canada and beyond. Background: Suicide is a leading cause of death among students in higher education, driven in large part by mental illness, but also mental wellness. Relatively few studies have examined the extent to which depression and flourishing/languishing interact in relation to suicidal thoughts and behaviors. Methods: We analyzed data from the Healthy Minds Study (2020–2021; emerging adult students aged 18–29; N = 101,435), and calculated interaction contrast ratios to estimate the interaction between depression and flourishing/languishing on suicidal thoughts and behaviors, using an additive scale, adjusting for age, gender, race/ethnicity, and food insecurity. Results: When compared with students who were flourishing without depression, the students who were languishing without depression, and the students who were depressed but still flourishing had significantly greater odds of suicidal thoughts and behaviors. However, students who were depressed and languishing had the greatest odds, exceeding the sum of the individual effects. Conclusion: The interaction of depression and flourishing/languishing produced a synergy that increased odds of suicidal thoughts and behaviors. This study aimed to cross-validate the Afrocentric Self-Regard Scale (ASRS), which was previously developed and assessed in a sample of Black American adolescents. However, this study was conducted with a representative sample of 619 emerging Black adults aged 18–29 years. Participants completed a survey that included the ASRS and measured African heritage connections, Afro-cultural orientation norms, internalized negative stereotypes, career aspirations, anxiety, and depression. A confirmatory factor analysis confirmed that all the items contributed to the measurement of self-regard as a single construct and showed a good fit. The ASRS showed excellent internal reliability. Construct validity was supported via positive correlations with African heritage connections and Afro-cultural orientation norms. Discriminant validity had a weak, negative correlation with internalized negative stereotypes. Nomological validity was supported via positive correlations with flourishing and career aspirations and negative correlations with depression and anxiety. The transition from pediatric to adult care for patients with chronic disease is a vulnerable period, with risks of disengagement from care and subsequent complications of inadequately managed disease. This period comes at a time when there are many other transitions occurring in the young person's life, including changes to vocation, social supports, and to their physiology. The aim of the TRACER study is to assess the feasibility of conducting a multi-center, randomized-controlled trial of a virtual Transition Coach Intervention in youth transferring from pediatric to adult rheumatology care. Patients are being recruited at their last pediatric rheumatology visit from McMaster Children's Hospital and Children's Hospital, London Health Sciences Centre in Ontario, Canada. Participants are then randomized to standard of care or to eight transition coaching sessions, covering topics around health management, future planning, and self-advocacy. The primary outcomes of the study are to demonstrate protocol feasibility, including optimal recruitment and consent rates, ≥ 90% coaching session completion, and complete data collection with ≤ 5% missing data. Baseline demographics, transition readiness, global functional assessment, disease activity, and self-efficacy will be collected to characterize the study population. Recruitment has begun and is estimated to last 19 months. This study will inform the design of a robust, multi-centered, randomized-controlled study to investigate the impact of a virtual transition coaching program in supporting the physical, mental, and social well-being of youth with rheumatic disease transitioning into adult care. Chronic procrastination, which is increasingly prevalent in adult routines, may have implications for mental and physical health. Family dynamics significantly influence procrastination tendencies. This study investigates the influence of family functioning on chronic procrastination, focusing on the mediating role of self-efficacy. We examined the proposed relations using Partial Least Square Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) with Smart PLS on a sample of 596 emerging adults. The results confirm the goodness of fit for the theoretical model. Notably, a positive and significant association exists between family functioning and self-efficacy. The study's results further strengthen the idea that both self-efficacy and family functioning significantly influence chronic procrastination. Moreover, self-efficacy acts as a mediator in the relations between chronic procrastination and family functioning. Resilience, the ability to adapt well to adversity, is a critical factor in the well-being and success of young individuals. This study explored the multifaceted nature of resilience among South African youth challenged by COVID-related stressors and structural disadvantage. Specifically, this paper reports a follow-up qualitative leg of a sequential mixed-method design. Thirty-eight young adults (average age 24), all of whom reported high risk exposure but low depression symptoms, took part in semi-structured interviews to learn more about their resilience journey. Qualitative content analysis was employed to identify prominent themes. The study's findings emphasize the dynamic nature of youth resilience, with individuals being buoyed by social network support (especially family); personal agency, structural support, and resource combinations. The qualitative findings contribute to the growing attention to the need for comprehensive policies and programs that recognize and enhance multisystemic sources of support, enabling young individuals to navigate challenges and thrive in their transition into adulthood. AbstractAchieving financial independence from parents holds importance in the transition to adulthood, particularly in high-income countries. However, this process becomes complex for young LGBTQ+ people and those from low- and middle-income nations, especially in cases of cross-border migration. This study presents qualitative insights drawn from testimonio interviews with 17 Venezuelan transgender women, aged 19–29, who migrated to Peru. Employing a thematic analysis, we explored four key themes: (1) motivations for leaving Venezuela, (2) financial support to migrate, (3) employment challenges in host countries, and (4) family remittance. Our focus centers on the participants’ challenges in achieving financial independence throughout their migration journey. Commencing migration from vulnerable economic positions, participants often received initial familial economic support. However, once established in Peru, they faced a paradox of sending remittances back to Venezuela to support their family even amidst personal economic difficulties in the host country. These findings reveal the complex financial interdependencies and vulnerabilities that mark the experiences of young Venezuelan transgender women migrants, contrasting sharply with the experiences of young transgender people in high-income nations. The findings challenge typical portrayals of young transgender individuals by illuminating the often overlooked role of Venezuelan transgender women migrants as familial providers, redefining financial independence in the context of global inequities. Background: Numerous studies have examined substance use and smoking behavior among adolescents and university students. However, little is known about these behaviors among students undergoing university entrance tests, a critical transition period from adolescence to adulthood. The entrance test can significantly affect students' mental health, potentially leading to substance use. This study aims to investigate the prevalence of cigarette smoking and substance use among students taking these exams and the associated factors. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was carried out on September 4th and 11th, 2022 to collect data from 1,480 university entrance test-taking students using a convenience sampling technique. Chi-square tests and logistic regression were conducted using SPSS software. Besides, GIS mapping was used to visualize the distribution of substance use and smoking behavior across districts via ArcGIS. Results: The study found a 10% prevalence of current tobacco smoking and 4% substance use. Females (OR = 1.98; 95% CI: 1.38–2.85), urban residence (OR = 2.03; 95% CI: 1.42–2.88), repeater (OR = 1.45; 95% CI: 1.02–2.06), anxiety (OR = 1.55, 95% CI: 1.10–2.19), burnout (OR = 1.51, 95% CI: 1.00–2.12), and suicidal behavior (OR = 1.57; 95% CI: 1.03–2.40) were the significant factors for cigarette use. Whereas the urban residence (OR = 1.91; 95% CI: 1.11–3.31), anxiety (OR = 2.47, 95% CI: 1.45–4.20), and suicidal behavior (OR = 2.76; 95% CI: 1.55–4.92) significantly increased the risk of substance use. GIS analysis revealed males varied in substance use and females in tobacco smoking by district. Repeat test-takers were associated with district variations in both smoking and substance use. Conclusions: Educational institutions, public health authorities, and policymakers must implement mental health support and substance use prevention programs for students. Studies assessing the relationship between religiosity and sexual behaviors in youth are limited by their use of single‐aspect measures of religiosity, assumption of linearity, and focus on coital behaviors. This study assessed how multidimensional latent profiles of religiosity were associated both with sexual risk behaviors and noncoital sex. Data were gathered using a national sample of emerging adults in Croatia (N = 1,210; Mage = 21.74, 48.0 percent female). Latent profile analysis provided a three‐profile model as the most robust solution, differentiating among the low, moderate, and high religiosity groups. The gradient pattern (differences among all profiles) was observed only in the association between religiosity and the frequency of masturbation and experiencing oral sex. The relationship between religiosity and other sexual behaviors either was nonlinear or not found. Overall, religiosity was associated with a more limited sexual repertoire. This study presents findings from qualitative longitudinal research (QLR) conducted among young working-class Palestinian women citizens of Israel who were interviewed as high school students working in precarious employment and again five years later as they entered emerging adulthood. The study examined precarious employment during high school as a central axis that shapes the features of emerging adulthood over time among young working-class Palestinian women, within the dynamic between culture (traditional expectations) and education (self-realization). QLR makes it possible to examine the structures of barriers and resources at the intersection of gender, class, and ethnonationality over time. Employing the theoretical frameworks of vulnerability and precarity reveals that the features of emerging adulthood are anchored in economic, political, and cultural structures. Reliance on precarious employment and exploitative work environments during adolescence has far-reaching consequences throughout emerging adulthood. Monitoring programs are pivotal to establishing sound management. Due to economic, logistic, and time limitations, monitoring programs often overlook differences among life‐history stages. However, species occurrence does not necessarily mean population viability, and it is unclear to what extent monitoring programs that do not consider separately adult presence and reproduction provide effective management indications. Unfortunately, collecting data on certain life stages requires high sampling effort, leading to a trade‐off between model reliability and resources needed for monitoring. We collected data on presence and reproduction of amphibians by monitoring 207 waterbodies in Lombardy (northern Italy) in 2017–2022. We then used multistate occupancy models to test whether certain environmental features, namely, pond area, hydroperiod, forest cover, shade, aquatic vegetation, and predators’ presence, differentially affected adult occurrence and breeding probabilities of multiple amphibian species. To assess optimal sampling efforts, we modeled the detection probabilities of adults and reproduction across multiple species. Finally, we identified the optimal monitoring strategy under different scenarios of resource availability, comparing adult‐only monitoring versus joint assessment of the occurrence of adults and reproduction. In many cases, the main drivers of adult occurrence and reproduction did not coincide because most investigated ecological variables affected one life stage or the other. Forest area, for instance, increased occurrence probabilities of adults of the endemic Rana latastei but showed no effect on their reproduction probabilities. Quantitative estimates of the sampling effort showed that occurrence of adults was easier to spot in 4 out of 7 species. Multicriteria decision analyses showed that when resources were scarce, monitoring adults was the optimal strategy for those 4 species. Conversely, with more resources, monitoring both adults and reproduction emerged as the best strategy for all the considered species. It is widely acknowledged that individuals with out‐of‐home care (OHC) experiences, including foster‐family care and residential care, face an increased risk of poor labour market attachment during emerging adulthood. However, limited understanding exists regarding how this attachment, conceptualized here as ‘not in employment, education, or training’ (NEET), evolves beyond young adulthood and the degree to which this development is marked by persistence or desistance. Using group‐based trajectory modelling and multinomial regression on population‐based register data for over 650,000 Swedish men and women (including approximately 14,000 with OHC experience), followed from birth to age 40, the results indicate that OHC‐experienced individuals, especially those first placed as teenagers, exhibit a substantially higher risk of persistent NEET compared to peers without OHC experience. Various forms of eating disorder focused family therapy (FT‐ED) have been developed and evaluated for adolescents. FT‐ED for adolescent anorexia nervosa (AN) focuses on empowering parents/carers with the knowledge and skills required to facilitate recovery for their child. The recent trend and increased awareness of the period between adolescence and adulthood during ages 18–25, known as ‘emerging adulthood’, has brought into question whether the traditional treatment approach for adults with AN, that is, individual therapies, is the most appropriate approach for this age group. This paper briefly outlines the current forms FT‐ED for emerging adults with AN and examines the evidence for each. We then present considerations for tailoring FT‐ED for emerging adults with AN across three broad domains: structure and set‐up, process, and content. Finally, we present suggestions on how to troubleshoot common pitfalls that may be encountered, such as reluctance to include parents in treatment. Future research should examine which forms of FT‐ED are best for which emerging adults and families and under what contexts. This paper proposes a rethinking of the temporal conditions of childhood by centring the affective experiences of fourteen young activists who continuously inhabit the past by working at a collective memory museum in Colombia. It questions notions of time as linear, progressive, chronological, and universal and instead presents alternative ways of being in time. I discuss young activists’ struggles to imagine mundane futures while constantly comparing themselves with the experiences of the victims of the armed conflict. I then discuss how the museum, as an institutional site of remembrance, sanitises and dictates how the young museum workers ought to remember, making them feel inadequate when their emotions do not align with the museum’s mission. The young activists demonstrate how their transitions into adulthood are determined by simultaneously inhabiting multiple temporalities and defying adult expectations on how to remember. Background/Objectives: Depression and anxiety are prevalent disorders, particularly during emerging adulthood. Uncertainty about the future, exacerbated by unstable times, can lead to heightened future anxiety in this group. This study aimed to examine the complex associations of depression symptoms, future anxiety, and self-efficacy in adults from Poland. Additionally, we investigated age and gender differences in depression symptoms, future anxiety, and self-efficacy. Methods: A cross-sectional online survey study was performed in 2023 in Poland using snowball sampling. A convenience sample of 284 adults participated in this study, ranging in age between 18 and 65 years old (M = 32.18, SD = 11.87), including 95 men (33.45%) and 189 (66.55%) women, and also 157 (55.63%) emerging adults (18–28 years old) and 126 (44.37%) middle-aged adults (29–65 years old). The Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9), Dark Future Scale (DFS-5), and Generalized Self-Efficacy Scale (GSES) were used to measure depression, future anxiety, and self-efficacy, respectively. Results: A 2-way ANOVA showed that both emerging adults and women scored significantly higher in depression symptoms and future anxiety than middle-aged adults and men, respectively. Furthermore, women scored lower in self-efficacy than men. Analyses revealed that there was a positive correlation between depression and future anxiety. Self-efficacy was negatively correlated with depression and future anxiety. Self-efficacy and future anxiety accounted for 48% of depression variance, controlling for age and gender. Future anxiety was found to be a partial mediator of the relationship between self-efficacy and depression. Conclusions: This study significantly advances the understanding of mental health in adults, grounded in social cognitive theories, revealing that low self-efficacy heightens future anxiety, thereby exacerbating depression symptoms in the Polish adult population, independent of age and gender. Emerging adults and women need psychological support to reduce depression and future anxiety. Women, in particular, should be the main focus of interventions to boost self-efficacy. The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has posed unprecedented challenges to universities worldwide, exemplifying a crisis that profoundly affects the learning outcomes and psychological status of college students. Although it is known that campus lockdown has triggered dramatic changes in lifestyles, learning outcomes, and psychological statuses, in-depth knowledge of the causal relationships among these changes remains largely unclear. Methods: Here, we conducted a cross-sectional survey designed to assess the impact of campus closure during COVID-19 on lifestyle, educational performance, and anxiety levels among college students. We surveyed over 3,500 junior college, undergraduate and graduate participants from 94 colleges/universities across 30 provinces, municipalities, and autonomous regions in China.We employed structural equation modeling (SEM) to explore the relationships between changes in lifestyle, educational performance, and levels of anxiety associated with campus open or closure regulations during the COVID-19 pandemic. Results: Our results discovered that sleep duration, physical activity involvement, and social connections were crucial for sustaining students' learning outcomes and mental health. The shift to online learning and campus lockdown exacerbated stressors, contributing to heightened anxiety (β = 0.066), disrupted sleep patterns, and enhanced physical activity (β = 0.070) and reduced learning effect (β = -0.059). Sleep patterns were disrupted by the campus lockdown, an effect mediated by the degradation of relationships among classmates. Nonetheless, the best-fitting SEM uncovered the intricate relationships among lifestyle changes, learning outcomes, and psychological status in response to sudden environmental changes (Fisher's C = 80.949, P = 0.328). These results highlight the critical role of adaptable, supportive campus policies tailored to meet the diverse needs and interests of students during and beyond crises (Fisher's C = 59.568, P = 0.809). Conclusions: Our study advocates for a holistic approach that addresses the multifaceted aspects of student life to cultivate a resilient academic community. This approach contributes to a deeper understanding of the effects of sudden environmental changes on students' psychological well-being and academic performance in the post-pandemic era. Rapid technological advancements have revolutionized the dating experiences of emerging adults. This study explored perceptions of information and communication technology within emerging adult romantic relationships and examined what young adults perceived to be the costs and benefits of using technology to communicate in dating relationships. Emerging adults (N = 118) from diverse backgrounds completed a semi‐structured interview and thematic analysis was conducted on the interview responses. Several themes were identified that highlighted the positive influence of technology on relationship communication (e.g., greater efficiency), relationship development, and relationship maintenance. Despite several benefits, broad negative impacts of technology were also identified, including less privacy in relationships, and oversharing of relationship information online. The findings provide context for how technology has influenced relationship dynamics among emerging adults and can be useful to inform modern theories of romantic relationship development and relationship interventions. This study aimed to examine the predictive effect of suppression of positive and negative emotions on loneliness and whether gender moderated the relationship between them in the Turkish population. The sample consisted of 408 (286 females and 122 males) university-attending emerging adults aged 18–25 (M = 20.98, SD = 1.61). The participants completed the measures of suppression sub-dimension of emotion regulation and loneliness, as well as a demographic survey. The results demonstrated that suppression of positive and negative emotions positively predicted loneliness regardless of gender. The findings also indicated that although males compared to females reported significantly greater suppression of positive and negative emotions, there was no significant difference between females and males on loneliness. In conclusion, in the socio-cultural context, hiding emotions in males reduced the socially punishing aspects of suppression but could not provide social gains. Anisopteromalus calandrae (Howard) shows great promise as an ectoparasitoid for controlling various coleopteran pests in warehouses. However, for a large‐scale release, it is crucial to establish an ample supply of A. calandrae while carefully maintaining their quality and effectiveness. Appropriate cold storage techniques are the key to achieving these goals. Previous studies on cold storage have focused on specific developmental stages and explored cold storage conditions that can be applied only to those stages. Herein, we examined the development, survival and reproductive capacity of A. calandrae at different temperatures (13, 16, and 19 °C) and storage durations (30, 60, and 90 d) and evaluated the fitness of the offspring. A. calandrae completed its egg‐to‐larva development and pupated at 16 °C, but its development was arrested at an early pupal stage. Even after 90 d of cold storage at 16 °C, the survival rate of A. calandrae remained high at 77%, with no significant impact on reproductive capacity. Furthermore, cold storage showed no negative effect on the F1 generation. In contrast, eggs stored at 13 °C failed to hatch, whereas those stored at 19 °C developed. Adults emerged after > 60 d. This indicates that storage at 19 °C is only suitable for short durations. Our findings highlight the developmental pattern of A. calandrae at 16 °C, indicating that the parasitic wasp can be stored for a long time at this temperature across all stages of development before pupation, substantially facilitating its mass reproduction and industrial production. Background Methods Results Conclusions Self‐determination refers to setting goals and making decisions regarding one's own life with support from others as needed. Research on people with intellectual and developmental disabilities has established the importance of self‐determination for quality of life outcomes, such as increased independence and life satisfaction. However, self‐determination has not been characterised specifically in fragile X syndrome (FXS), the leading inherited cause of intellectual disability. Relative to youth with other forms of intellectual and developmental disabilities, youth with FXS may face exceptional barriers to the development of self‐determined behaviour. In addition to intellectual disability, the FXS behavioural profile is characterised by high rates of autism and anxiety that may further limit opportunities for youth with FXS. The heritable nature of the condition can also yield a distinctive family environment, with siblings and parents also living with fragile X or its associated conditions. Considering these unique challenges, the present study examined self‐determination in young adult males and females with FXS and explored whether factors such as language skills, adaptive behaviour and autism traits were associated with self‐determination capacity and opportunities.The present study included 9 females and 36 males with FXS between the ages of 17 and 25 years. Caregivers (mothers or fathers) completed the American Institute for Research Self‐Determination Assessment, which is a questionnaire that yields three scores: self‐determination capacity, opportunities for self‐determination at home and opportunities for self‐determination at school.Caregivers endorsed a wide range of self‐determination capacity and opportunities, with ratings for opportunities at home and school exceeding ratings of capacity. Better adaptive behaviour skills were associated with more self‐determination capacity, and the presence of more autism traits was associated with fewer opportunities at school.Results from this study contribute to our understanding of avenues to best support young adults with FXS as they transition to adulthood. Our findings also have implications for practice, such that interventions targeting adaptive behaviours and self‐determination may be an effective approach for promoting autonomy and independence for young adults with FXS. Trauma exposure and alcohol use often co-occur. Unveiling predictors of drinking behavior, including among those with varying levels of trauma exposure, can inform behavioral health prevention and treatment efforts in at-risk populations. The current study examined associations between depressive symptoms, avoidant coping, gender, and alcohol use among emerging adults with and without trauma exposure and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Participants were 238 emerging adults between the ages of 21 and 30 years (M = 24.75; SD = 2.61) in one of three groups: trauma-exposed with PTSD (n = 70); trauma-exposed with no PTSD (n = 83); or a no trauma (control) group (n = 85). Demographics, parental alcohol problems, depressive symptoms, and avoidant coping were examined as predictors of drinks per drinking day. Chi-square, t-test, bivariate, and group path analysis were conducted. Among participants, men consumed greater amounts of alcohol than women across all three groups. Group assignment based on trauma history and PTSD significantly moderated the association between avoidant coping and alcohol use such that avoidant coping had a significant effect on alcohol use among participants in the trauma-exposed and PTSD groups. There was also a significant group × gender × avoidant coping interaction such that, among participants in the control group, men had attenuated alcohol use at low levels of avoidant coping and increased at high levels of avoidant coping. No effects of race were observed. Results highlight the importance of avoidant coping as a risk factor for problematic drinking, unveiling a specific intervention target for reducing co-occurring PTSD and problematic alcohol use. This study examined the relations from helicopter parenting and autonomy-supportive parenting to Turkish emerging adults' psychological adjustment (depression, anxiety, and stress levels), using parental psychological control as a mediating mechanism. The participants included 457 emerging adults aged between 17 and 27 (M = 20.47, SD = 1.90) who filled out a self-report questionnaire on their parents' helicopter parenting, autonomy-supportive parenting, psychological control, and their depression, anxiety, and stress levels. Path analyses were performed to test the hypotheses. The findings displayed that there were indirect links from helicopter parenting and autonomy-supportive parenting to emerging adults' psychological adjustment through parental psychological control in a relatively collectivistic Turkish cultural context. Results indicated that parents who engage in developmentally inappropriate over-involvement in their children's lives may also use psychological control to maintain or strengthen their control over their children. Furthermore, parents' autonomy support may be related to a decrease in their tendency to use psychological control, which in turn results in better psychological adjustment. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
