Along with the quality of clothing production, the basic expectation of the customers is that the product in every size has the dimensions of the relevant body. Moreover, symmetry in clothing products can be achieved in shape and aesthetics. The measurement and symmetry problems encountered can be caused by processes such as the fabric used, the cutting process, the inexperience of the operator, and the machine used in sewing. The aim of this research is to develop a new measurement system in order to provide the desired dimensions and symmetrical appearance in the products in line with customer expectations. However, at every step, the philosophy of quality control is imposed on the sample department under the title of total quality management. As a result of the follow-up and analysis, 392 products were examined in the initial state of the department. While 210 (53.5%) of them were intact, the remaining 66 (16.8%) were faulty basic t-shirts, 60 (15.3%) were faulty polo t-shirts, and 56 (14.2%) were also faulty sweatshirt products. With the application of the developed system in the sample department, a total of 360 products were examined and 237 (65.8%) of them were intact, while 110 (30.5%) of the remaining products were found to be faulty and recovered thanks to the system developed during the sewing process. Purpose: The fundamental goal of this research is to develop a conceptual framework for performance, continuous process improvement, and total quality management. Design/Methodology/Approach: Exploring the literature on total quality management and other variables in connection to various relationships has been the subject of recent investigations. Findings: This paper provides an introduction of total quality management, explains how it transforms into a sophisticated strategy employed in modern businesses, and discusses the literature-based research that has been done in this field. This study suggests that total quality management, a concept popularized by Deming, be investigated in a range of industries in order to enhance product quality, reduce waste, and increase productivity. Research Restrictions/Implications: This study is an integrative evaluation of the prior research on the idea of overall quality management and its connection. Future researchers are urged to make use of descriptive survey and empirical technique to generalize its findings. Objective To evaluate the establishment of a two-part three-level model of quality control management in improving writing quality of nursing documents. Methods A two-part three-level model of quality control management has been carried out to improve the writing quality of nursing documents since 2016. The quality assessment outcomes of writing nursing documents in 2015-2017 were analyzed respectively. Results The score of quality assessment had increased from 97. 70 in 2015 to 98. 53 in 2016, and had continued to climb in 2017 (98. 88). Conclusion The establishment of a two-part three-level model of quality control management is effective to improve the writing quality of nursing documents. This study was designed to develop and validate a simple and efficient high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) method to determine flunixin concentrations in Asian elephant's (Elephas maximus) plasma. Flunixin was administered orally at a dose of 0.8 mg/kg, and blood samples were collected. Flunixin extraction was performed by adding an equal amount of acetonitrile to plasma and centrifuging at 4500 rpm for 25 minutes. The supernatant was removed, and flunixin was analyzed using HPLC-UV detection. Two methods were developed and tested utilizing two different mobile phases either with or without adding methanol (ACN: H2O vs. ACN: H2O: MeOH). Both methods showed excellent linearity and reproducibility. The limit of detection was 0.05 ug/ml and limit of quantification was 0.1 ug/ml. the efficiency of flunixin recovery was maximized by the addition of methanol to mobile phase (ACN: H2O: MeOH as 50:30:20) at 95% in comparison to 23% without methanol. In conclusion, adding methanol to HPLC methods for extraction of flunixin from elephants' plasma yielded higher recovery rate than without methanol. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Process variables in manufacturing process are critical to the final quality of product, especially in continuous process. Their abnormal fluctuations may cause many quality problems and lead to poor product quality. Against this background, this paper proposes a dynamic quality control approach by improving dominant factors (DFs) based on improved principal component analysis (iPCA). Firstly, the generation of iPCA is illustrated to identify the DFs which lead to quality problems. Then, a quality prediction model for improving DFs is proposed based on modified support vector machine (SVM). An incremental weight is introduced in SVM to improve its sparsity and increase the accuracy of quality prediction. Thus, the product quality can be guaranteed by controlling the DFs dynamically. That a manufacturer should align its implementation of Total Quality Management (TQM) to the external environment it faces has been indirectly argued for long. Theoretical and empirical evidence for this argument has, unfortunately, been lacking. Our research remedies this knowledge gap. Borrowing structural contingency theory and the concept of fit, we hypothesised and report three findings. First, we found contrasting normative TQM profiles between a high vs. a low level of environmental uncertainty. Second, we identified significant detrimental impact on firm performance when a firm deviates its TQM implementation from the normative TQM profile prescribed for a specific level of environmental uncertainty. Third, we also discovered discernible differences in the deterioration in firm performance between a positive vs. a negative deviation from the normative TQM profile. These robust findings were derived from analysing secondary survey data from 330 Chinese manufacturing firms via profile deviation analysis, MANOVA, MANCOVA and OLS regression. Contrary to the literature, manufacturers operating in a volatile external environment should pursue and benefit from TQM implementation. Manufacturers should, however, not seek to implement TQM to the fullest extent nor implement TQM half-heartedly. Instead, manufacturers should benchmark best performers as to what the normative TQM profile is and pursue their own TQM implementation to minimise deviations from the normative TQM profile. The purpose of the study is firstly, to empirically validate the conceptual structure of the effectiveness of the ISO 9001 quality management system (QMS) in manufacturing companies and secondly, to determine the critical factors that have a significant impact on the QMS’s effectiveness. A research study was carried out through a structured questionnaire in a sample of 163 ISO 9001 certified Greek companies. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses are applied to extract and validate latent constructs, while their relationships are determined through structural equation modelling. The analyses confirm the conceptual factorial structure of the ISO 9001 QMS’s effectiveness which consists of three dimensions – the ISO 9001 objectives (prevention of non-conformities, continuous improvement and customer satisfaction focus). The analysis also confirms the five dimensions of the critical factors for ISO 9001 QMS effectiveness identified in the literature (internal motivation, external environment pressure, company attributes, employee attributes and quality system attributes). Quality management practices such as total quality management (TQM) are continuously applied to improve firm performance. However, recent quality researchers have found contradictory performance evidence highlighting that the success of TQM might depend on various contextual factors. Specifically, researchers and practitioners have recognised similarities and considerable overlap between TQM and innovative practices, which suggests that innovativeness plays a contextual role. However, this putative relationship remains unexplored. The purpose of this study is to assess the importance of innovativeness to the success of TQM practices through applying contingency theory. Using data collected through a large-scale survey, we carry out an empirical study and produce robust results that strongly confirm such a contextual role of innovativeness. Specifically, we identify that the seven practices closely related to TQM, namely visionary leadership, internal and external cooperation, learning, process management, continuous improvement, employee fulfilment, and customer satisfaction, have a significantly stronger impact on operational performance in companies characterised by a high level of innovativeness. This paper economically analyses the actual quality of antimalarials in Dar es Salaam using drug quality analysis involving identification, uniformity of weight, and an assay of active ingredients. It seeks to determine the actual quality of antimalarials in Dar es Salaam and to determine the impact of this quality on health consumer utility, using the drug quality results to infer on the impact of quality on health consumer utility. Findings reveal all sampled drugs met the necessary condition of good quality drugs by containing amounts of active ingredients that complied with the British Pharmacopoeial (BP) specifications. However, analysis beyond the assay of active ingredients tests revealed some batches of antimalarials manufactured in Tanzania possessed less quality relative to other sampled drugs. Thich increased the probability of the production of drugs that may be outside the pharmacopoeial specified active ingredients quantities. Some locally manufactured antimalarials are thus less adequate in reducing sick time, and therefore provide less utility to healthcare consumers. Regulation can thus be enhanced increasing focus on drug quality monitoring activities beyond assessing whether drugs comply with pharmacopoeial standards or not, as well as well as increasing emphasis on monitoring drug manufacturers. The aim was to test the link between the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award (MBNQA) criteria and organizational quality performance. Specifically, this paper focuses on the role of quality information and analysis in quality performance among Korean manufacturing firms. This study also reviews prior research on MBNQA and examines the impact of customer and market management on quality. A survey instrument was developed based on specific criteria of MBNQA. Results suggest that quality information and analysis has a strong, positive impact on strategic quality planning and process management, and quality results are affected by human resource management and process management. Environmental Management Systems (EMSs) are relatively new and rather innovative management practices that provide firms with additional sources of information and leverage over their environmental and business processes and performance. This article reports the results of a survey of manufacturing plants that have adopted EMSs. It finds that EMSs are associated with factories that are larger, more committed to total quality management, and more innovative in general. EMSs are also a useful tool for managing community relationships and dealing with key stakeholder groups on potentially controversial environmental issues. Furthermore, EMS plants appear to pose less environmental risk for communities and report that their adoption and use of an EMS is an important factor in achieving this result. In the end, EMSs are an effective tool for managing environmental costs and risks inside and outside the factory in ways that add to, rather than detract from, the bottom-line. We introduce this theory-development forum by comparing total quality and management theory at both global and topic-specific levels. Our analysis suggests that management research could be enhanced by incorporating some insights of total quality into management theory. We also conclude, however, that management practice could be improved by incorporating insights from management theory into total quality efforts, and that, in fact, total quality has already incorporated many such insights. Japanese manufacturing practices are being implemented widely in the United States. However, firms are experiencing a variety of problems, indicating that these methods may have only limited success in the U.S. manufacturing environment. I suggest that modifications to both Japanese manufacturing practices and features of the U.S. manufacturing environment should be made before Japanese practices can be successfully adopted and performed. Contemporary changes in the organization and technology of manufacturing operations have caused the traditional, direct-labor focused, cost accounting system to be a less useful summary of a company's manufacturing operations. A select set of manufacturing firms, leaders in both high-technology growth industries and highly efficient innovative producers in mature industries, were visited in order to learn what changes were being made in their accounting, measurement, and control systems to support the current emphasis on new product and manufacturing technologies. While each firm was making significant changes in its manufacturing processes, comparable changes were not occurring in its accounting and control systems–except, perhaps, on a preliminary and experimental basis. This article concludes with some conjectures as to why the pace of innovation in management accounting systems is lagging behind the rate of change in the organization and technology of manufacturing operations. Total Quality Management (TQM) has become, according to one source, 'as pervasive a part of business thinking as quarterly financial results,' and yet TQM's role as a strategic resource remains virtually unexamined in strategic management research. Drawing on the resource approach and other theoretical perspectives, this article examines TQM as a potential source of sustainable competitive advantage, reviews existing empirical evidence, and reports findings from a new empirical study of TQM's performance consequences. The findings suggest that most features generally associated with TQM--such as quality training, process improvement, and benchmarking--do not generally produce advantage, but that certain tacit, behavioral, imperfectly imitable features--such as open culture, employee empowerment, and executive commitment--can produce advantage. The author concludes that these tacit resources, and not TQM tools and techniques, drive TQM success, and that organizations that acquire them can outperform competitors with or without the accompanying TQM ideology. Empirical studies conducted at the Institut de Recherche de l'Entreprise (Lyon, France) show that, in 'stalemate industries' (cf. the BCG's typology. 1981), differentiation strategies are effective and profitable alternatives to the usual strategic recommendations. The knowledge of customers' behavior shows up several opportunities for differentiation, hidden by some kind of 'strategic presbyopia'. Total quality or 'zero default' strategy (product quality regularity, punctuality of deliveries, quick response to unexpected orders, quick and correct answers to requests, short delivery times) is the major opportunity for differentiation. Such strategies are compatible with a low-cost position: excellent companies which succeeded in building this 'total advantage' (diferentiation + low cost) over their competitors enjoy the highest market share growth and profitability. The American corporate sector saw major rearm movements during the 1980s. Despite frequent admixture in practice, two key movements can be singled out as analytically distinct: financial restructuring (generally debt-financed, often involving mergers), and total quality management (a particular approach to productive restructuring). Unfortunately the precepts and practices of these movements often clashed. This paper examines these tensions and explores them by reference to economic theories of the firm associated with each movement. While financial restructuring has been interpreted through the lens of neoclassical agency theory, total quality management has strong links with alternative approaches that can be grouped under the heading 'capabilities theory'. Artikel ini membahas pengaruh lingkungan terhadap praktik akuntansi manajemen pada industri maju. Persaingan yang semakin ketat mendorong manajemen untuk melakukan berbagai inovasi untuk menyesuaikan strategi-strategi lama dengan strategi baru yang lebih relevan. Demikian pula asumsi-asumsi yang sudah tidak relevan lagi perlu direvisi. Konsep acceptable quality level (AQL) yang lebih toleran terhadap adanya produk rusak atau produk cacat, cenderung menghambat kemampuan perusahaan dalam memuaskan konsumen, sehingga perlu diperbaharui dengan konsep Total Quality Control (TQC), yang lebih menjamin kualitas produk dan kepuasan konsumen. Demikian pula dalam perhitungan biaya produk, dengan pendekatan tradisional yang mengasumsikan elemen yang paling dominan dalam biaya produksi adalah biaya bahan baku. Purpose The purpose of this paper is to integrate process complexity as an object of analysis within effective quality management (QM).Design/methodology/approach This paper systematically analyzes different conceptions of complexity theory and characterizes process complexity from a QM perspective producing new insights how to address process complexity for continuous improvement.Findings The authors identified and specified four complexity characteristics, which we integrated in a holistic process complexity model (PCM). The author further developed the idea of internal and external process complexity and demonstrated that internal complexity needs to balance external complexity. Based on the PCM, internal process complexity can be analyzed and suitable management approaches can be selected, while conventional QM practices showed to be inefficient or even contra-productive when applied in the context of process complexity.Research limitations/implications This research is adapted to fit the needs of production processes. The PCM is designed from a QM perspective.Practical implications The developed model allows companies to specify and characterize process complexity in order to reflect on the appropriateness of their process management approaches. This study aims to know the Kaizen and Kanban Implementation in Management of Education to support of Total Quality Management Improvement conclude as planning, organizing, implementation, control and evaluation of education in the education board in Al Washliyah, North Sumatra, Indonesia. Qualitative research is used in research based on the individual's background in a holistic way. Data collection techniques used three ways: interview, observation and documentation. method of data analysis done four steps that is data reduction, provision of data. Total of school and madrasah Al Washliyah is 620 unit, which consist of 147 regular schools and 436 madrasahs (Ibtidaiyah, Tsanawiyah, Aliyah). With the total number of public school students 30,694 people and religious schools 72,697, so the total number of students as a whole based on existing education level of 103,391 students. The objective conditions of Al Washliyah schools/madrasah at all levels of education have not met the demands of educational goals, Al Washliyah Council of North Sumatra programmed educational planning with the methods of External Knowledge and Acquired Knowledge oriented to Science and Technology, referring to the educational curriculum system Al Washliyah and Without a good marketing management then a company will experience difficult constraints or conditions in terms of income or income earned. The main objective of this research is to measure the level of knowledge, understanding, and implementation of quality management tools in a sample of the industrial sector in Saudi Arabia, and to monitor the different policies to implement the quality strategies and the extent of their integration into the industrial management systems in general. A questionnaire to cover key elements, including knowledge and understanding of the various quality management (QM) approaches and the accompanying tools, is implemented. The impact of using each QM approach on the level of actual growth of the industrial organisations is verified, along with the impact of the executive method of management and its compatibility with the proper implementation of quality tools. The results of the study indicate that different visions of QM strategies and policies are still adopted by industrial companies participating in the survey. Instead of using the same ensemble for all data instances, recent studies have focused on dynamic ensembles in which a new ensemble is chosen from a pool of classifiers for each new data instance. Classifiers agreement in the region where a new data instance resides in has been considered as a major factor in dynamic ensembles. We postulate that the classifiers chosen for a dynamic ensemble should behave similarly in the region in which the new instance resides, but differently outside of this area. In other words, we hypothesize that high local accuracy, combined with high diversity in other regions, is desirable. To verify the validity of this hypothesis we propose two approaches. The first approach focuses on finding the k-nearest data instances to the new instance, which then defines a neighborhood, and maximizes simultaneously local accuracy and distant diversity, based on data instances outside of the neighborhood. The second method makes use of an alternative definition of the neighborhood: all data instances are in the neighborhood. However, the importance of data instances for accuracy and diversity depends on the distance to the new instance. Buyers can manage product quality sourced from suppliers in three ways: they can improve the quality incoming from suppliers directly by investing in suppliers to improve a process/product, they can improve the incoming quality indirectly by incentivizing supplier quality‐improvement efforts, and/or they can control the quality outgoing to subsequent processes by inspecting incoming units. In this study, we study a buyer's use of these three instruments—investment, incentives, and inspection—to manage the sourced quality. To do so, we consider a general relationship between the buyer's direct investment effort and supplier's quality‐improvement effort, allowing them to be complementary, substitutable, or additive in their quality‐improvement effects. For situations in which the buyer and the supplier decide their efforts simultaneously with contractible internal‐failure events, we identify three types of strategies: the investment‐based strategy (focusing on the buyer's investment effort) for strongly substitutable efforts, the inspection‐based strategy (focusing on inspection) for strongly complementary efforts, and the integrative strategy (emphasizing all three instruments) for additive efforts. If buyer‐investment commitment is possible, then the inspection‐based strategy in which both parties defect in their efforts will be replaced by a collaboration‐based strategy in which both parties exert high efforts to improve quality. Contracting upon external failures (in addition to internal failures) does not change this strategy pattern; however, when combined with buyer‐effort commitment, such a contract achieves the first‐best result. This study aimed to analyze the effect of total quality management variable on company performance, to analyze total quality management on company performance through balanced scorecard, to analyze the effect of total quality management variable on company performance using BSC approach on indicators of customer perspective, internal business, growth and learning perspective. The population was eight companies of manufacturing which were in Pati Regency. The sample which was appropriate with the criteria as many as thirty five respondents was three units of analysis research: the manager, the employees and the customers. The data analysis method used inferential statistical analysis that was classical assumption test analysis, and regression analysis using SPSS Statistics 21. The results of this study showed that total quality management variable did not affect on company performance. Judging from the effect of mediation, balanced scorecard mediation the relationship between of TQM on company performance. The TQM variable indirectly affected on company performance which mediated by balanced scorecard variable and total quality management variable affected the company performance using balanced scorecard. Purpose The purpose of this paper is to clarify how enablers of quality management can secure the satisfaction and loyalty of patients through increasing service quality in hospitals.Design/methodology/approach The current study conducted a review of the existing literature to identify operational dimensions of the research variables. As a result of the review, 17 dimensions were identified; five European foundation for quality management enablers, five SERVQUAL service quality dimensions, four patients’ satisfaction elements and three patients’ loyalty components. To evaluate interrelationships among these 17 research dimensions, decision-making trial and evaluation laboratory technique was applied using experts’ opinions.Findings Several key relations were found among research dimensions. Research findings could provide a scientific insight for hospital managers to understand how they could increase the level of patients’ satisfaction and loyalty through high-quality services provided by quality management enablers.Research limitations/implications This study has been conducted based on the expert’s opinions from private hospitals located in Tehran and Alborz provinces, Iran. Although the results could be useful for hospital managers in different places and could provide them a valuable insight and knowledge, findings are limited to Iranian private hospitals.Originality/value It is taken for granted that patients’ satisfaction and loyalty could increase as a result of high-quality medical and treatment services in hospitals. On the other hand, offering excellent services meeting all the needs and expectations of customers could be consequence product of quality management enablers. Even though satisfaction and loyalty of customers, i.e. patients, is the primary target of quality management, there is little research in the literature as to how enablers of quality management can secure the satisfaction and loyalty through increasing service quality in hospitals. The gap is more critical because the specialized dimensions of four research variables have not been previously integrated into a coherent framework and interrelationships among them have not been studied and clarified in detail. Purpose The purpose of this paper is to present a systematic literature review to identify new avenues of research in line with the ongoing changes in quality and management required to firms, especially regarding customers.Design/methodology/approach This study uses a systematic review of the literature contained in the three databases Ebsco, JSTOR, and Springerlink and on the search engine Google Scholar.Findings An analysis of the literature identifies three different clusters of papers: “identification” papers, which show that customer focus has gained importance in recent times; “implementation” papers, which highlight that a general or shared model or scale to successfully implement total quality management (TQM) does not yet exist; and “impact-on-performance” papers, which show that few studies have considered the relationship between TQM and the issues of both marketing and performance, underlining the most significant gap in the TQM literature.Research limitations/implications This study is limited by the small number of databases and search engines used and by the restricted number of keywords used in searching these sources.Practical implications This work highlights a gap in the existing research and thus an incomplete consideration of the interplay between management, marketing, and quality issues, all centered on customers and other stakeholders. Researchers and firms are thus advised to adopt a wider view that considers the role of the quality process to support the firm’s engagement of customers in activities that enhance both the customer role and customer satisfaction.Originality/value This study uses a systematic literature review to review all critical factors of TQM and identifies new research avenues and different approaches to implementing TQM, focusing on the central role that customers play in achieving firm success. The article presents a response to a 1995 special issue of "Academy of Management Review" focusing on total quality management (TQM). In reviewing the contributions to that earlier issue, the author's suggest some further areas of TQM research based on their European experience. The authors claim that the exploration within that issue falls short of discussing how TQM promotes a higher quality of life. Instead, the scholarship focuses on the implementation of TQM within the organization. The authors stress that TQM's benefits to employees and their own sense of empowerment is worthy of exploration.
