Among the properties of materials for direct coronal restorations, water absorption is particularly important, influencing the mechanical properties, color and adhesion of the restorations made. The aim of this study was to compare the water absorption of six dental restorative materials, two composite, two compomers and two glass ionomers. Water absorption was determined on disk samples. 30 discs were prepared, 5 of each studied material, with a diameter of 15 mm and a thickness of 1 mm. The water absorption test was carried out based on the ISO 4049 specification. The composites and compomers showed a water absorption within the standard limits (40 μg/mm3). Glass ionomers show high water absorption, therefore to be used as coronal restorative materials they need to be coated with a protective varnish. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The complexity of the aspects related to vitamin therapy in the treatment of cancerous and precancerous conditions located in the oral cavity, derived from several signs and symptoms associated with the multitude of factors involved in triggering the pathology of the oral cavity, creates premises for complementary studies aimed at understanding the mechanisms through which antioxidant vitamins intervene, leading to measures meant at optimizing the therapeutic algorithm. Combinations of various antioxidant nutrients have shown anticancer activity enhanced by the synergy in their action, which is probably due to the optimization of their anticancer activity at different oxidation-reduction potentials. The morphostructural features of temporary teeth cause certain clinical and therapeutic implications. To avoid opening of the pulp chamber during tooth preparation, conservative restorations are required, adapted to the size and colour of the temporary teeth. Dental developmental anomalies (DOA) may occur during the stages of tooth development, due to several disturbing factors. They m ay also result from the action of either genetic or environmental factors (e.g. metabolic, chemical, physical factors) or from the combined action of both categories in any of the odontogenesis stages (1-3). Depending on the possible result of the action of the etiological factors during different stages of dental development, DDAs are classified into: anomalies in number, size, shape, structure and colour. Medical history and clinical examination are the first methods of investigation required in the detection of DOA. In the oral cavity, the spectrum of diseases caused by genetic changes varies from developmental disorders of the teeth up to their complete absence. Dental defects can be the physical expression of genetic defects, so that they can often be observed in a variety of syndromes associated with malformations. The purpose of this study was to identify the presence of various dental abnormalities associated with genetic syndromes in temporary teeth. Between 2010 and 2016, 47 patients diagnosed with genetic syndromes, hospitalized at the "Dr Gavril Curteanu" Municipal Clinical Hospital of Oradea, were studied. Patients' age was 0 to 6 years range, both sexes; anamnesis and examinations of the oral cavity were performed. The results showed that, out of the 24 genetic syndromes identified, 18 also showed dental abnormalities: 65.96% singular, 12.77% multiple. These anomalies occur in number and shape (2.13%), volume (10.64%), structure (40.33%), and eruption (10.64%). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In Romania, the term dental malpractice is relatively new compared to medical malpractice. The common premises that underlie these iatrogenics have made doctors more vigilant about treatment and achieving the desired results. At the same time, the conditions of medical liability are consistent with those of civil liability, namely: damage, wrongdoing, guilt, and causation. To counteract these effects, public attention has been focused in recent years on patients' rights (involving, causes, effects, informed consent of the patient regarding the collection of personal data, informing the patient about the work itself, and possible complications which may occur postoperatively). As a result, the number of reported cases of malpractice has increased markedly in recent years.
