The article discusses pricing aspects of cloud computing. The author notes similarities between cloud computing and timeshare computing, such as their adoption due to computing costs and labor needs. He notes that the use of open-source software and centralization of computer infrastructures have led to expectations of low pricing for cloud computing and notes cloud computing service models such as Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS) and (Software as a Service (SaaS). He notes how a perfect competition market could form for cloud computing, resulting in variations in performance and the use of outdated hardware. Service-level agreements (SLAs) and technical support problems for cloud computing are noted.
