Objective Background Methods Results Conclusion To examine longitudinal associations among stressful life events and identity processess in emerging adults while accounting for within‐person and between‐person effects.Theoretical perspectives suggest that stressful life events may impact one's identity (i.e., coherent sense of self), but few studies have considered how changes in stressful life events are associated with changes within an individual's identity development over time (within‐person effects). Recent stressful life events (i.e., academic problems, friendship problems, romantic problems, and time pressure) and the processes through which identity develops (e.g., exploring in breadth and depth) were examined longitudinally (T1–T3) in a sample of emerging adults (N = 1125, Mage = 17.96 years).Random‐intercept cross‐lagged modeling demonstrated that at the between‐person level, emerging adults with greater academic and friendship problems, as well as more time pressures (relative to their counterparts), tended to engage in greater ruminative exploration. Further, those with more academic problems tended to demonstrate weaker commitment‐making and exploration in breadth and depth (relative to their counterparts). Within‐person increases in romantic problems predicted lower commitment‐making and higher ruminative exploration over time.Findings suggest that romantic problems may predict within‐person changes in identity processes, whereas academic problems, friendship problems, and time pressure may be more concurrently related to identity development. Variety‐seeking behavior has received substantial attention in marketing literature. Although various explanations of the causes of variety‐seeking explore the influence of consumers' internal psychological characteristics on behavioral decisions, few studies have been conducted on external factors. With the fast pace of modern life and the increasing trend of online shopping, consumers often face time constraints when making purchasing decisions. This study examines the impact of time pressure as a significant external environmental factor on consumers' variety‐seeking behavior. A conceptual framework is developed based on construal level theory to uncover the influencing mechanism of time pressure on variety‐seeking behavior while also considering the effects of the consumer's personality and emotional state. We conducted two experiments to investigate the moderating effect of regulatory focus from the personality perspective and excitement level from the emotional state perspective. Study 1 found that time pressure significantly affects variety‐seeking behavior. Additionally, consumers with prevention regulatory focus tend to exhibit more variety‐seeking behavior when not under time pressure. Study 2 supports the main effect and shows that the level of excitement affects the impact of time pressure on variety‐seeking behavior. Therefore, this study contributes to the literature on consumer behavior and purchasing decisions by presenting a robust theoretical framework that provides practical insights and implications for enterprise managers. Sleep timing is an important output of the circadian system. The COVID-19-mandated social restrictions significantly altered commuting time and sleep duration regionally in Japan. This study aimed to elucidate sleep patterns, especially chronotype and social jetlag (SJL), due to changes in social time pressure through the social restrictions between the Metropolitan and Regional areas in Japan. As part of the Global Chrono Corona Survey 2020 (GCCS), the data were collected during social restrictions (SR), but pre-COVID-19 behaviours were also queried retrospectively. We analyzed a cohort of 729 respondents representing both the Metropolitan and the Regional areas separately for workdays and work-free days. While the areas showed no difference in SJL before SR, the differential decrease was larger in the Metropolitan area during SR, resulting in a significant difference in SJL between the areas. The outdoor light exposure before SR was 30 min longer in the Metropolitan areas than in the Regional; during SR both areas showed similarly low (below 1 h) outdoor light exposures. The variables associated with decreased SJL were the Metropolitan areas, work-from-home, a no-usage alarm clock on workdays, and chronotypes (mid-sleep time on free days corrected for sleep deficit accumulated over the workweek, MSFsc) during SR. The results suggest that relaxed social schedules, as reflected in the increased frequency of work-from-home and reduced alarm clock use, and moving towards earlier MSFsc during SR were linked to decreased SJL and were more prominent in the Metropolitan areas. Having a multitude of choices can be advantageous, yet an abundance of options can be detrimental to the decision‐making process. Based on existing research, the present study combined electroencephalogram and self‐reported methodologies to investigate the neural mechanisms underlying the phenomenon of choice overload. Behavioural data suggested that an increase in the number of options led to negative evaluations and avoidance of choice tendencies, even in the absence of time pressure. Event‐related potential results indicated that the large choice set interfered with the early visual process, as evidenced by the small P1 amplitude, and failed to attract more attentional resources in the early stage, as evidenced by the small amplitude of P2 and N2. However, the LPC amplitude was increased in the late stage, suggesting greater investment of attentional resources and higher emotional arousal. Multivariate pattern analysis revealed that the difference between small and large choice set began at around 120 ms, and the early and late stages were characterised by opposite activation patterns. This suggested that too many options interfered with early processing and necessitate continued processing at a later stage. In summary, both behavioural and event‐related potential (ERP) results confirm the choice overload effect, and it was observed that individuals tend to subjectively exaggerate the choice overload effect. PhD students come to work in academic environments that are characterized by long working hours and work done on non-standard hours due to increasing job demands and metric evaluation systems. Yet their long working hours and work at non-standard hours are often seen as a logical consequence of their intellectual quest and academic calling and may even serve as a proxy for their research engagement. Against that background, quantitative data from 514 PhD students were used to unravel the complex relationships between different aspects of time use and PhD students' work engagement. While the results support the academia as a calling thesis to some extent, they also show that the relationships between long and non-standard working hours and research engagement are partly negated by the fact that the same working time characteristics lead to perceived time pressure and lack of time sovereignty, which in turn negatively affects their engagement. Moreover, the mechanism behind this negation varies across scientific disciplines. These subjective working time characteristics are the same alarm signals that are flagged as risk factors in academic staff for occupational stress, burnout, and work-life imbalance and thus cannot be ignored. It is important to monitor cerebral perfusion in infants because hypo- and hyperperfusion can contribute to neurological injury. This study aimed to clarify the relationship between trans-systolic time (TST) and critical closing pressure (CrCP) or estimated cerebral perfusion pressure (CPPe) in neonates. Moreover, we aimed to determine the TST values in preterm and term infants with stable cerebral perfusion to clarify normative reference data. This multicentre prospective study included infants with arterial lines admitted to the neonatal intensive care units between December 2021 and August 2023. TST, CrCP, and CPPe were calculated using middle cerebral artery waveforms recorded using transcranial Doppler ultrasonography when clinicians collected arterial blood samples. Three hundred and sixty samples were obtained from 112 infants with a gestational age of 32 (interquartile range, 27–37) weeks and a birth weight of 1481 (956–2355) g. TST was positively correlated with CPPe (r = 0.60, p < 0.001), but not with CrCP (r = 0.08, p = 0.10). The normative reference values of TST in preterm and term infants without samples of hyper- or hypocapnia and/or hyper- or hypotension, which may affect cerebral perfusion, were as follows: ≤ 29 weeks, 0.12 (0.11–0.14) s; 30–36 weeks, 0.14 (0.12–0.15) s; and ≥ 37 weeks, 0.16 (0.14–0.17) s, respectively. Conclusion: TST in neonates significantly correlated with CPPe, but not with CrCP. TST may be a good predictor of cerebral perfusion and potentially have wider clinical applications. This study experimentally investigates the use of Meliaceae Family Extract (MFE), Annonaceae Family Extract (AFE) and the Extracts Hybrid (EH) of both plants as inhibitors of gas hydrate were compared with conventional Monoethylene glycol (MEG). 1 to 3 wt% of the inhibitors were screened on a hydrate mini flow-loop. Different plots of pressure and temperature against time, final and initial pressure against time indicate that MFE, AFE and EH outperformed MEG at different weight concentrations. At 1 wt%, MFE exhibited an outstanding inhibition efficiency of 64.65%, whereas AFE, EH and MEG record 57.58%, 58.59% and 54.55%. MFE gave an improved performance at 1 wt% compared to the other three inhibitors. At 2 wt%, the optimum efficiency was recorded by AFE with an inhibition efficiency of 72.73% while EH, MFE and MEG were 69.70%, 50.51% and 59.60%. MEG performed slightly better at 3 wt% with inhibition efficiency of 71.72% than MFE and EH with inhibition efficiency of 70.71% while AFE performed the least at 68.69%. EH generally performed better, it is locally sourced and gotten from plant families which makes it less expensive and environmentally friendly unlike MEG, which is expensive and toxic to the environment. Despite the acknowledged complexity and time pressures of early childhood educators' work, very few studies have examined the nature of this work, minute-by-minute, over the working day. This paper reports on data gathered through 10,155 time-use diary (TUD) records provided by 321 educators participating in the Exemplary Early Childhood Educators at Work Australian Research Council Linkage Project. Participants were recruited from preschool/kindergarten and long day care centres that had achieved a rating of Exceeding the Australian National Quality Standard on all seven Quality Areas. Analyses of this extensive dataset illustrate the rhythm and diversity of educators' work across a typical day and identify the similarities and differences in worktime distributions for educators working in preschool vs. long day care settings, and for educators with different qualifications and positional responsibilities. Current studies lack adequate analysis of the antecedents of the two forms of work-related rumination. However, understanding the relationship between different types of stress and the two forms of rumination is of profound significance for eliminating the influence of negative rumination. In this project, three studies were conducted to investigate the cumulative and immediate effects of challenge and hindrance stress on affective rumination and problem-solving rumination based on one-time, two-time points and daily measurements. Participants were 1109, 605 and 111 employees from a variety of jobs in Chinese mainland. The results showed the relationship between hindrance stress and affective rumination varies over different time course. There was no significant correlation between hindrance stress and problem-solving rumination over any time course. The relationship between challenge stress and two forms of work-related rumination varies over different time course. The results of this study suggest that the antecedent analysis of work-related rumination should not only give attention to the type of work stress, but also consider the time of work stress when analyzing its aftereffects. In this work, we analyze a discontinuous Galerkin finite element method for the equations of motion that arise in the 2D Oldroyd model of order one. We investigate the existence and uniqueness of semidiscrete discontinuous solutions, as well as the consistency of the scheme. We derive new a priori and regularity results for the discrete solution and establish optimal error estimates in L∞$$ {L}&amp;#x0005E;{\infty } $$‐norm in time and energy norm in space for the velocity and L2$$ {L}&amp;#x0005E;2 $$‐norm in both time and space for the pressure. Uniform estimates are derived for sufficiently small data. We next apply the backward Euler method to the semidiscrete formulation and establish optimal fully discrete error estimates. Parenting stress has long been proposed as a major risk factor for child maltreatment. However, there is a lack of evidence from existing studies on the temporal sequence to establish a causal relationship. This study aims to examine bidirectional temporal relationships between parenting stress and child maltreatment. Longitudinal data from two different sources were analysed: a pre-post study of an online parenting programme conducted across six countries - the ePLH Evaluation Study, and a prospective cohort study in the United States - LONGSCAN. Cross-lagged panel model on parenting stress and child maltreatment was used in each dataset. Based on repeatedly measured data of 484 caregivers in the ePLH study across five time points (every two weeks), we found that parenting stress at an earlier time point predicted later child maltreatment (IRR = 1.14, 95 % CI: 1.10,1.18). In addition, the occurrence of child maltreatment was associated with higher subsequent short-term parenting stress (IRR = 1.04, 95 % CI: 1.01,1.08) and thus could form a vicious circle. In the LONGSCAN analysis with 772 caregivers who were followed up from child age of 6 to child age of 16, we also found parenting stress at an earlier time point predicted later child maltreatment (β = 0.11, 95 % CI: 0.01,0.20), but did not observe an association between child maltreatment and subsequent long-term parenting stress. Potential information bias on the measurements. Introduction: External bleeding is the leading cause of preventable trauma-related death. In certain circumstances, tourniquet application over clothing may be necessary. Therefore, the aim of this study was to assess the effectiveness of tourniquets over different clothing setups. Methods: Three windlass tourniquets (CAT, SAMXT, SOFTT-W) were applied over nine different clothing setups and without clothing on the Hapmed™ Tourniquet Trainer. We compared each tourniquet in each clothing setup to the tourniquet trainer that was not dressed, and we compared the three tourniquets within each clothing setup concerning blood loss, applied pressure and application time. Regression analysis of the effect of thickness, mean weight, mean deformation, application time, and applied pressure on blood loss was performed. Results: Although blood loss was significantly greater in the CAT and SAMXT tourniquets when they were applied over leather motorcycle trousers, the overall findings showed that the clothing setups significantly reduced or did not affect blood loss. The mean blood loss was the lowest with CAT and the highest with SOFTT-W. The measured mean pressures were lower than 180 mmHg in four out of nine clothing setups with SOFTT-W, but CAT and SAMXT always exceeded this threshold. CAT had the fastest application time. Blood loss was significantly influenced by applied pressure and application time but was influenced to a far lesser degree by clothing parameters. Conclusion: The effects of the clothing setups were of little clinical relevance, except for leather motorcycle trousers. The effects of rugged protective equipment, e.g., hazard suits, are conceivable and need to be tested for specific garments with the tourniquet intended for use. Background: Palliative care remains key in assisting patients who have life-threatening conditions. In most low- and middle-income countries, it is often offered through a centralized system with limitations, including Malawi. In 2014, the World Health Organization called for improving palliative care access through primary health care and community models. Malawi and Neno District subsequently decentralized palliative care delivery to local health centers. This qualitative study explored the decentralization of palliative care services in Neno District, Malawi. Methods: The descriptive qualitative study was conducted between 2021 and 2022 in two conveniently selected health centers providing palliative care in the Neno District. Fourteen healthcare workers were purposefully selected to participate in two focus groups. Fifteen patients were conveniently selected and participated in three focus groups. Data was analyzed using deductive and inductive approaches. Focused group discussions were conducted in Chichewa (Malawi's official local language), audio recorded, transcribed, translated into English, and analyzed thematically. Results: Four main themes emerged from the focus groups. Patients described positive relationships with healthcare workers built on trust and holistic care over time. Accessing care included transport, social support, time constraints, and distance issues. Facilities effectively responded to needs through coordinated care and follow-up. Decentralization was perceived to benefit patients by reducing travel challenges and improving local access to efficient and inclusive palliative care services. However, challenges with resources, distance, and social support remained. Limitations in sampling and missing participant details necessitate further research with broader sampling. Conclusion: Overall, the study provides empirical evidence that can optimize palliative care delivery in similar low-resource contexts by informing policies to address barriers through decentralized approaches. The peak explosion pressure and maximum rate of pressure rise of explosions in confined spaces are key safety parameters to evaluate the hazard of processes running in closed vessels and to design enclosures able to withstand explosions or of their vents used as relief devices. These properties are examined in the present paper, for hydrogen-hydrocarbon-air mixtures at sub-atmospheric pressures, using propane and n -butane as test fuels and variable hydrogen ratios between 0 and 0.3. The experimental study was carried out in a sphere and a cylindrical chamber at room temperature and sub-atmospheric pressures (between 0.3 and 1.0 bar). On the basis of pressure recordings, the characteristic explosion indices, i.e., the maximum explosion pressure (p max), maximum rate of pressure rise ((dp/dt) max), deflagration index (K G), and time to peak pressure (θ max) were derived. Numerical simulations were used to determine the adiabatic explosion pressures and adiabatic flame temperatures of isochoric combustion. The effects of initial pressure (p 0), hydrogen concentration, and shape and size of the explosion vessel on explosion indices are discussed. For each hydrogen concentration of the blended fuels, linear correlations p max = f(p 0) and (dp/dt) max = f(p 0) were found. In addition, the heat loss to the walls during explosion propagation was estimated on the basis of the difference between the adiabatic and experimental explosion pressures. The amount of heat lost increases with the increase of hydrogen blending ratio and vessel asymmetry. • Hydrogen-blended propane-air and butane-air explosions were studied in two closed vessels. • The experiments were performed at various initial pressures between 0.3 and 1.0 bar. • As Hydrogen blending ratio increases, the explosion pressure, the maximum rate of pressure rise, and the severity factor increase. • The increase of hydrogen blending ratio results in the decrease of the explosion times. • The observed variations depend largely on the volume and shape of the explosion vessel. This paper presents the results of the study of stress relaxation fields, deformation, and temperature of the system of nanostructured multilayer coatings. In the work, a nonlinear relationship between strain and stress was used to take into account nonlinear effects in the mechanism of nanostructure formation. The paper assumes that a friction surface is provided by the self-organization of shear components: both stress and strain on the one hand, and temperature on the other. The studied objects are described in the adiabatic approximation, taking into account the fact of the evolution of stresses and strains. With the help of phase portraits of the system, the dependence of the deformation processes on the stresses arising in the system without coating and with coating is shown. It is shown that the rate of change of deformation depends on the characteristics of the mechanical impact on the coating and on the amount of stress and deformation. A conclusion is drawn regarding the transition process in the presence of two regions (Hooke and plastic deformation) in the corresponding phase portrait of the strain–stress field of the system. The results of the work can be used to determine the effective parameters of a coating in the analysis of experimental time dependences of stresses. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background and objective: This study examined the potential influence of pre-pandemic psychological resilience on use of approach or avoidant coping styles and strategies to manage stress during the COVID-19 pandemic. We hypothesized that higher resilience would be associated with more approach coping and less avoidant coping. Design and methods: Longitudinal cohort data were from the Nurses' Health Study II, including 13,143 female current and former healthcare professionals with pre-pandemic lifetime trauma. Pre-pandemic resilience was assessed between 2018–2019 and current coping during the outbreak of the pandemic in the United States (May-August 2020). Multiple linear regression model results identified associations between continuous pre-pandemic resilience scores and use of approach and avoidant coping styles, as well as individual coping strategies, adjusting for relevant covariates. Results: Greater resilience was associated with higher use of approach coping (ß = 0.06, 95% CI 0.05, 0.08) and lower use of avoidant coping styles (ß = -0.39, 95% CI -0.41, -0.38). Higher pre-pandemic resilience was also associated with use of eight (distraction [ß = -0.18, 95% CI -0.20, -0.16], substance use [ß = -0.15, 95% CI -0.17, -0.13], behavioral disengagement [ß = -0.29, 95% CI -0.30, -0.27], self-blame [ß = -0.44, 95% CI -0.45, -0.42], emotional support (ß = 0.03, 95% CI 0.01, 0.05), positive reframing [ß = 0.13, 95% CI 0.12, 0.15], humor [ß = 0.03, 95% CI 0.01, 0.05] and religion [ß = 0.06, 95% CI 0.04, 0.08]) of the nine coping strategies in expected directions. Conclusion: Findings have important implications for intervention or even prevention efforts to support vulnerable groups, such as women with prior trauma histories, during this and other immensely stressful times. Objective: This study develops a computational model to predict drivers' response time and understand the underlying cognitive mechanism for freeway exiting takeovers in conditionally automated vehicles (AVs). Background: Previous research has modeled drivers' takeover response time in emergency scenarios that demand a quick response. However, existing models may not be applicable for scheduled, non-time-critical takeovers as drivers take longer to resume control when there is no time pressure. A model of driver response time in non-time-critical takeovers is lacking. Method: A computational cognitive model of driver takeover response time is developed based on Queuing Network-Model Human Processor (QN-MHP) architecture. The model quantifies gaze redirection in response to takeover request (ToR), task prioritization, driver situation awareness, and driver trust to address the complexities of drivers' takeover strategies when sufficient time budget exists. Results: Experimental data of a preliminary driving simulator study were used to validate the model. The model accounted for 97% of the experimental takeover response time for freeway exiting. Conclusion: The current model can successfully predict drivers' response time for scheduled, non-time-critical freeway exiting takeovers in conditionally AVs. Application: This model can be applied to the human-machine interface design with respect to ToR lead time for enhancing safe freeway exiting takeovers in conditionally AVs. Trenches, as important practical military facilities, have important theoretical and military value in evaluating the damage power of ammunition, operational application, and effective safety protection of personnel on the battlefield through the spatiotemporal evolution of explosive shock waves within them. At present, there is a lack of in-depth research on the distribution and impact of overpressure inside the trench. The paper constructed a typical finite element simulation model of a trench, numerically calculated the shock wave overpressure inside the trench and on the wall, analyzed the spatiotemporal distribution of shock wave pressure in various parts of the trench, conducted on-site explosion tests, and installed shock wave pressure sensor measurement points in the trench. The pressure time history curve was obtained, and verified and compared with the simulation calculation results. Research data shows that the peak overpressure of the shock wave in the trench increases sequentially from the front wall to the back wall. The peak overpressure of the shock wave at the front wall attenuates by 10 % to 20 % compared to the inside of the trench, and increases by 40 % to 60 % at the back wall; The peak overpressure in the trench exhibits a "V-shaped" distribution at different depths, decreasing first and then increasing as the depth increases. The maximum overpressure peak increases by 40 % to 50 % compared to the minimum; Based on simulation and measured data in the trench, as well as the distribution law of shock wave pressure, safety protection suggestions for on-site combat personnel in the trench are provided. Earthquake forecasting poses significant challenges, especially due to the elusive nature of stress states in fault systems. To tackle this problem, we use features derived from seismic catalogues obtained from acoustic emission (AE) signals recorded during triaxial stick-slip experiments on natural fractures in three Westerly granite samples. We extracted 47 physically explainable features from AE data that described spatio-temporal evolution of stress and damage in the vicinity of the fault surface. These features are then subjected to unsupervised clustering using the K-means method, revealing three distinct stages with a proper agreement with the temporal evolution of stress. The recovered stages correspond to the mechanical behaviour of the rock, characterized as initial stable (elastic) deformation, followed by a transitional stage leading to an unstable deformation prior to failure. Notably, AE rate, clustering-localization features, fractal dimension, b -value, interevent time distribution, and correlation integral are identified as significant features for the unsupervised clustering. The systematically evolving stages can provide valuable insights for characterizing preparatory processes preceding earthquake events associated with geothermal activities and waste-water injections. In order to address the upscaling issue, we propose to use the most important features and, in case of normalization challenge, removing non-universal features, such as AE rate. The 2014 phreatic eruption of Mt. Ontake was preceded by increased volcano-tectonic (VT) seismicity, but all other types of precursors were obscure. A subsurface process leading to eruption with few precursors has yet to be identified. This study performed numerical simulations to reproduce the precursory time sequence of the eruption. High-temperature water from a cooling magma reservoir was injected into a modeled porous medium filled with cold water. This resulted in an immediate pressure increase and a delayed temperature increase in the shallow parts. The pressure increased immediately because the injected fluid pushed the existing fluid away from the porous medium. A sharp boundary between low (initial)- and high (injected)-temperature regions, known as a thermal front, developed and migrated upward slowly, leading to a delayed temperature increase. The lag time between the pressure and temperature changes is likely responsible for the precursory VT seismicity. If the injected water temperature was less than the critical point, the water was liquid throughout the model region until the thermal front reached a shallow part, where the pressure was low enough for the heated water to vaporize. This vaporization was sudden and large, likely leading to a large eruption with few precursors, similar to the time sequence in 2014. If the injected water temperature was higher, the water volume increased gradually from liquid to supercritical and then to the gas state. Policy compression is a computational framework that describes how capacity-limited agents trade reward for simpler action policies to reduce cognitive cost. In this study, we present behavioral evidence that humans prefer simpler policies, as predicted by a capacity-limited reinforcement learning model. Across a set of tasks, we find that people exploit structure in the relationships between states, actions, and rewards to "compress" their policies. In particular, compressed policies are systematically biased towards actions with high marginal probability, thereby discarding some state information. This bias is greater when there is redundancy in the reward-maximizing action policy across states, and increases with memory load. These results could not be explained qualitatively or quantitatively by models that did not make use of policy compression under a capacity limit. We also confirmed the prediction that time pressure should further reduce policy complexity and increase action bias, based on the hypothesis that actions are selected via time-dependent decoding of a compressed code. These findings contribute to a deeper understanding of how humans adapt their decision-making strategies under cognitive resource constraints. But time constraints or mental fatigue can often steer us towards familiar choices, such as sticking to the same brand. To understand how cognitive resource limitations affect human decision making, we conducted a study in which we manipulated the number of optimal choices and the time limit within which choices were made. Across three tasks, we found that people utilize task structure to compress the amount of information factored into their decision making. Information compression biases people towards their past choices. This bias persists even when multiple optimal choices are available, and intensifies under cognitive load and time pressure. A computational model of decision making under cognitive constraints accurately describes the experimental data. In this Letter, we investigate the threshold voltage (VTH) instability of Schottky p-GaN gate high electron mobility transistors (SP-HEMTs) under high-frequency operation by a resistive-load hard switching method. The abnormal VTH instability is observed, which is different between fully and partially depleted SP-HEMTs (FD- and PD-HEMTs). Notably, for FD-HEMT, VTH shifts positively with effective stress time. However, the VTH instability in PD-HEMT is more complex. At low VGS (e.g., 3 V) and high VGS (e.g., 6 V), VTH shifts positively with stress time consistently. Nevertheless, at intermediate VGS levels (e.g., 4 and 5 V), VTH initially shifts positively and then negatively, displaying a non-monotonous variation. Furthermore, the frequency dependence of VTH is contingent upon VGS. At low VGS, VTH exhibits a negative shift with the increase in frequency. This trend inverses when VGS exceeds 4 V. And it should be noted that the extracted VTH under high-frequency operation is lower than their quasi-static values for both transistor types. This work depicts the physical process and mechanism of the abnormal VTH instability; different from the quasi-static case, hole accumulation effects will be enhanced due to the high dV/dt, which results in a lower VTH. The distinct VTH behaviors of FD- and PD-HEMTs are closely related to the trapping effects, as well as hole accumulation and insufficiency, within the two different p-GaN gate layers. With the rapid accumulation of online information, efficient web navigation has grown vital yet challenging. To create an easily navigable cyberspace catering to diverse demographics, understanding how people navigate differently is paramount. While previous research has unveiled individual differences in spatial navigation, such differences in knowledge space navigation remain sparse. To bridge this gap, we conducted an online experiment where participants played a navigation game on Wikipedia and completed personal information questionnaires. Our analysis shows that age negatively affects knowledge space navigation performance, while multilingualism enhances it. Under time pressure, participants' performance improves across trials and males outperform females, an effect not observed in games without time pressure. In our experiment, successful route-finding is usually not related to abilities of innovative exploration of routes. While causal reasoning is a core facet of our cognitive abilities, its time-course has not received proper attention. As the duration of reasoning might prove crucial in understanding the underlying cognitive processes, we asked participants in two experiments to make probabilistic causal inferences while manipulating time pressure. We found that participants are less accurate under time pressure, a speed-accuracy-tradeoff, and that they respond more conservatively. Surprisingly, two other persistent reasoning errors—Markov violations and failures to explain away—appeared insensitive to time pressure. These observations seem related to confidence: Conservative inferences were associated with low confidence, whereas Markov violations and failures to explain were not. These findings challenge existing theories that predict an association between time pressure and all causal reasoning errors including conservatism. Internet interventions for common mental disorders are widely available, effective, and economical, yet community uptake remains low. One consistently cited reason for not engaging in mental health interventions is lack of time. This research examined whether lack of time as a rationale for not using online interventions reflects real time scarcity, and whether time availability impacts intention to use interventions. A nationally representative sample (N = 1094, 51% women) reported their time use in activity categories for a typical week. Participants rated their acceptance and likelihood of use of mental health internet interventions, and completed mental health symptom, help-seeking and stigma measures. Amount of leisure time reported by participants was not associated with acceptance or likelihood of use of internet interventions for mental health. However, respondents who worked longer hours ranked time and effort factors as more influential in their intention to use internet-based mental health programs. Younger respondents and those with greater help-seeking attitudes reported higher acceptance of use. These findings suggest lack of time is not a direct barrier to use of internet interventions, and that perceived time scarcity may be masking real barriers to uptake. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: There is a growing momentum around the world to foster greater opportunities for the involvement of mental health service users in their care and treatment planning. In‐principle support for this aim is widespread across mental healthcare professionals. Yet, progress in mental health services towards this objective has lagged in practice. Objectives: We conducted a systematic review of quantitative, qualitative and mixed‐method research on interventions to improve opportunities for the involvement of mental healthcare service users in treatment planning, to understand the current research evidence and the barriers to implementation. Methods: Seven databases were searched and 5137 articles were screened. Articles were included if they reported on an intervention for adult service users, were published between 2008 and October 2023 and were in English. Evidence in the 140 included articles was synthesised according to the JBI guidance on Mixed Methods Systematic Reviews. Results: Research in this field remains exploratory in nature, with a wide range of interventions investigated to date but little experimental replication. Overarching barriers to shared and supported decision‐making in mental health treatment planning were (1) Organisational (resource limitations, culture barriers, risk management priorities and structure); (2) Process (lack of knowledge, time constraints, health‐related concerns, problems completing and using plans); and (3) Relationship barriers (fear and distrust for both service users and clinicians). Conclusions: On the basis of the barriers identified, recommendations are made to enable the implementation of new policies and programs, the designing of new tools and for clinicians seeking to practice shared and supported decision‐making in the healthcare they offer. An orchard sprayer prototype running a variable-rate algorithm to adapt the spray volume to the canopy characteristics (dimensions, shape and leaf density) in real-time was designed and implemented. The developed machine was able to modify the application rate by using an algorithm based on the tree row volume, in combination with a newly coefficient defined as Density Factor (Df). Variations in the canopy characteristics along the row crop were electronically measured using six ultrasonic sensors (three per sprayer side). These differences in foliage structure were used to adjust the flow rate of the nozzles by merging the ultrasonic sensors data and the forward speed information received from the on-board GNSS. A set of motor-valves was used to regulate the final amount of sprayed liquid. Laboratory and field tests using artificial canopy were arranged to calibrate and select the optimal ultrasonic sensor configuration (width beam and signal pre-processing method) that best described the physical canopy properties. Results indicated that the sensor setup with a medium beam width offered the most appropriate characterization of trees in terms of width and Df. The experimental sprayer was also able to calculate the application rate automatically depending on changes on target trees. In general, the motor valves demonstrated adequate capability to supply and control the required liquid pressure at all times, mainly when spraying in a range between 4.0 and 14.0 MPa. Homecare workers face significant occupational risks, necessitating effective safety training programs. This paper presents a comprehensive Train-the-Trainer (TTT) program developed to enhance occupational safety in homecare organizations. Through an analysis of 229 reported safety events, the frequency and type of incidents, such as injuries during handling, road crashes, slips, trips, and falls, were identified and primarily attributed to human errors and violations. Based on the results, a TTT program was designed and implemented. The TTT successfully engaged Health, Safety, and Environment managers, fostering collaborative activities, knowledge sharing, and resource discussions. The program modules address critical areas, including distractions and inattentions, fatigue, time pressure, frustration and aggressiveness, and safety behaviors. This innovative approach provides valuable insights for organizations seeking to improve homecare workers' safety. The cognitive reflection test (CRT) is an experiment task commonly used in Western countries to test intuitive and analytical thinking styles. However, the validity of this task for Chinese participants has not been explored. Therefore, this study recruited Chinese college students to finish CRT tasks with various experimental designs. To gauge the accuracy of the CRT tasks, 438 Chinese college students first completed online questionnaires. Participants were then invited to participate in an offline laboratory with the same experimental settings. Finally, time pressure was used to strictly control intuition and analytical thinking to explore the performance of Chinese college students on CRT tasks. The results show that of the three experiments, Chinese college students had the highest accuracy in the offline test, and the CRT's intuitive conflict problem still applies to Chinese students under the time-limited condition. Over the last few years, livestreaming e-commerce has shown rapid growth and has become an important form of e-commerce. However, the potential mechanisms of interpersonal interaction's influence on purchase intention in livestreaming e-commerce have yet to be fully investigated. Based on the SOR (Stimulus-Organism-Response) framework, this study reveals the association between interpersonal interaction (consumer–anchor interaction and consumer–consumer interaction), psychological distance, consumer purchase intention, and the positive role of brand identification and time pressure in this context of influential relationships. The results of analyzing 603 questionnaires show that psychological distance between consumers and products plays a mediating role in the effect of interpersonal interaction on purchase intention. Meanwhile, this study found that consumers' brand identification with the products in the live room was effective in enhancing the direct effect of interpersonal interaction in the model. Additionally, the time pressure associated with limited-time sales was also found to be effective in enhancing the effects of interpersonal interaction and psychological distance on purchase intention. The results of this study reveal the potential influence mechanisms of interpersonal interactions with various identities in livestreaming e-commerce, providing theoretical guidance and practical insights for practitioners in the field. The subframe is a crucial load-bearing part of the chassis, playing a significant role in ensuring the safety and reliability of the vehicle. In this study, we aim to investigate the squeeze casting process of an integrated aluminum alloy subframe. Using relevant design criteria and casting theory, we have determined the optimal squeeze casting process for the whole subframe. The experimental factors for the subframe squeeze casting include pouring temperature, die temperature, filling velocity, and pressure holding time, while the response indexes are porosity, secondary dendrite arm spacing, and solidification time. These criteria were chosen based on their importance in determining the quality and mechanical properties of the casting. By studying the squeeze casting process of the integrated aluminum alloy subframe, we hope to improve the safety and reliability of chassis components. In this manuscript, the Box–Behnken design methodology was used to design the experiment scheme, and virtual casting simulation method is used to simulate the casting, and the input–output relationship model was developed. On this basis, the optimal process parameter combination was obtained by using the mayfly algorithm based on orthogonal and chaotic strategy (MAOLC). Simultaneously, the trial production test was carried out on the squeeze casting machine to verify the optimal parameters. X-ray inspection, metallographic structure testing, and mechanics performance testing show that the casting has no casting defects and has good mechanical properties. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Adverse prenatal diagnoses, regardless of the women's choice of continuing the pregnancy or terminating it, can impact a women's psychological and psychosocial wellbeing. Supportive interventions during this time are important. However, understanding what is deemed useful and best practice is complex and multifaceted. To understand the need for support during this time, the authors undertook a research study where 12 women were interviewed. The women spoke about feeling pressured by time in making a decision regarding their pregnancy option and having limited psychoeducation and support provided. They also spoke about post-traumatic growth in their grief experience. To assist health professionals, the authors have addressed the following areas in the study's findings and discussion sections: the lack of appropriate information delivery skills of the professionals, the need for an assessment of each woman's unique needs, the need for appropriate referrals to be given, and the need for appropriate follow-ups of the women. The SARF (Skills, Assessment, Referral, and Follow-up) model, presented in this article as a synthesis of this research, has the potential to inform the development of clinical services and social work practice to support women's care following adverse prenatal diagnosis. IMPLICATIONS Psychosocial assessments are vital in providing good quality care to women after a poor prenatal diagnosis. The model can provide guidance to ensure that psychosocial assessments and explorations of values are undertaken before referring women to follow-up services. The EFSA Panel on Food Contact Materials, Enzymes and Processing Aids assessed the safety of the recycling process Martogg Group (EU register number RECYC321), which uses the EREMA Advanced technology. The input material is ■■■■■ washed and dried poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) flakes originating from collected post‐consumer PET containers, including no more than 5% PET from non‐food consumer applications. The flakes are heated in continuous reactors ■■■■■ before being extruded. Having examined the challenge test provided, the Panel concluded that the continuous decontamination steps (Steps 2 and 3), for which a challenge test was provided, are critical in determining the decontamination efficiency of the process. The operating parameters to control the performance of this step are temperature, pressure and residence time. It was demonstrated that this recycling process is able to ensure a level of migration of potential unknown contaminants into food below the conservatively modelled migration of 0.1 μg/kg food derived from the exposure scenario for infants when such recycled PET is used at up to 100%. Therefore, the Panel concluded that the recycled PET obtained from this process is not of safety concern when used at up to 100% for the manufacture of materials and articles for contact with all types of foodstuffs, including drinking water, for long‐term storage at room temperature or below, with or without hotfill. A cylinder-type driver tube staging valve is developed for the test time extension of a reflected-shock tube by delaying the expansion waves' arrival at the test flow. By applying the staging valve, a low-acoustic-speed gas can be filled near the driver tube end wall without significant mixing with the driver gas. As a result, the expansion waves decelerate while passing through the low-acoustic-speed gas, and the test time could be further extended by delaying the expansion waves' arrival at the test flow. The test time extension results are evaluated based on the history of pressure measurements at the driven tube end wall under two test flow conditions. The experimental details regarding the test time and the pressure over the test time are described. The localization of sources of pressure transients is essential for proactively managing and reducing the adverse effects of these transients in water supply networks (WSNs). This paper addresses the issue of localizing transient sources in a WSN where there is uncertainty about the network connectivity. If closed valves or blockages in the pipes are not accounted for, it can result in inaccurate knowledge of the network connectivity, leading to incorrect estimations about the sources of pressure transients. The problem is challenging due to the added uncertainties in estimating the velocity of pressure waves and determining their arrival times at pressure monitoring sites. In order to systematically investigate this problem, the paper presents a novel theoretical framework for localizing the source of pressure transients in WSNs with uncertain connectivity. The problem is formulated as a mixed-integer quadratic program, which consists of minimizing the difference between analytical and measured pressure wave arrival times for multiple pairs of time-synchronized sensors. Unlike previous approaches, the k-shortest path (with respect to time) routing problem is incorporated into the problem formulation to account for multiple potential wave propagation paths. The optimization problem is then solved using an off-the-shelf solver, and a methodology is developed to ensure the reliability of the optimization approach. We apply the proposed methodology to numerically simulated pressure transient data for a benchmark WSN and compare it against a previously published method. The results show a notable improvement in accurately localizing the source of a transient in the presence of unknown closed valves or pipe blockages. Provided pressure wave speeds are predetermined, the proposed methodology is able to simultaneously localize the source of a pressure transient and validate the assumed hydraulic connectivity of a WSN. Four decades of research into the influences of time pressure on risky decisions have produced widely contrasting findings: 38.5% of the effects indicate that time pressure increases risk preferences, whereas 61.5% show the opposite. A theoretical framework with four conceptual categories of moderators is proposed to explain these heterogeneous findings: nature of the time constraint, negative outcome salience, negative outcome severity, and vulnerability to the outcomes. This framework is tested through a meta-analysis of 213 effect sizes reported in 83 papers, representing 65,574 unique respondents. The four categories of moderators effectively resolve notable conflicts. For example, regarding the nature of the time constraint, an absolute versus relative constraint increases risk preferences, but an ambiguous versus objective constraint decreases risk preferences. In terms of negative outcome salience, risk preferences decrease if the risk is learned about from a description (vs. experience) or the outcome is framed as a loss (vs. gain). Negative outcome severity also exerts an effect, as discrete choices lower risk preferences compared with attitudinal risk. In addition to managerial and public policy implications based on simulations, a comprehensive research agenda that builds on the robust insights of this meta-analysis is offered. TeachersPayTeachers.com (TpT) is an influential online education resource marketplace where users download, buy, and sell education content. How and why educators use platforms like TpT has received only limited scholarly attention. This research therefore addresses a gap in the literature by exploring educators' (N = 1359) self-reported uses and perceptions of TpT. Participants reported intensive and multifaceted TpT use, in particular to address curriculum gaps and time pressures. Most respondents perceived TpT content to be of high quality, but many also noted challenges with TpT. This study compared the overall postoperative recovery of patients who underwent total intravenous anesthesia with remimazolam or propofol, using the Quality of Recovery-15 questionnaire (QoR-15). Seventy-two patients who underwent spine surgery with intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring (IONM) were randomly categorized into the remimazolam group (group R) or propofol group (group P). On the first postoperative day, the QoR-15 scores for groups P and R were 114 and 112, respectively, indicating no significant difference (p = 0.691). Similarly, group–time interaction effects on QoR-15 scores were not significantly different. In the post-anesthesia care unit, the pain intensity at rest was notably higher in group P than in group R (3.0 [0.0] vs. 2.8 [0.5], respectively, p = 0.009). Although the intraoperative consumption of remifentanil was higher in group R (1452.4 µg vs. 2066.8 µg, respectively, p < 0.001), the intraoperative use of vasopressors was lower in group R (1705.6 µg vs. 286.1 µg, respectively, p < 0.001) compared to group P. Group R exhibited significantly lower variability in mean blood pressure over time compared to group P. Remimazolam was viewed as a promising intravenous agent for general anesthesia, showing potential to replace propofol in spine surgery with IONM, considering both recovery quality and intraoperative hemodynamic stability. Emergency situations are generally described as combining both threat and time pressure. Creative solutions to deal with such situations are important. The present studies (Ntotal = 1190) investigated how people are able to produce creative solutions in an emergency. Our first study was correlational, and assessed individual creativity and reactions to emergency situations using self-report questionnaires. It was complemented by three experimental studies. In those, critical features of emergency situations were manipulated (i.e., time pressure and/or threat level) to examine their putative impact on individual performance on creative tasks (Alternate Uses Task and Real Life Problem). Three dependent variables systematically qualified individuals’ creative performance: fluency (i.e., the number of ideas proposed), originality (i.e., the average rarity of the ideas proposed), and originality adjusted for fluency (i.e., the rarity of the most original idea proposed). Taken together, the results observed tend to indicate that increasing emergency (i.e., increasing time constraint or threat importance) produced an average reduction in the originality of the ideas proposed. These results complement previously obtained results about the effect of stressful situations on creativity through the distinction made in this paper between two key components of emergency situations, namely time pressure and threat level. Plasma corticosterone concentration (CORT), heterophil:lymphocyte ratio (H:L), catalase activity (CAT), total glutathione concentration (GSH), and thiobarbituric acid reactive substance levels (TBARS) were evaluated in 48 Hy-Line Brown laying hens, at 79 weeks of age, after being fasted for 10 consecutive days. Blood was collected on days zero, two, four, six, eight, and 10 of fasting, and a completely randomized design was adopted, with eight replicates on each day of collection, with each bird being an experimental unit. The time of maximum stress was determined for each method, using the polynomial regression analysis. The Pearson correlation analysis was also performed to determine whether the methods were interchangeable. CORT and GSH concentrations indicated that the time of maximum stress occurred at 4.3 days of fasting, whereas, the H:L and CAT activity indicated that the time of maximum stress occurred at 10 days of fasting. The malondialdehyde concentration detected by the TBARS method was highest at day zero and lowest at day 5.5 of fasting, but this method was not a reliable measure of stress. The low Pearson correlation coefficients observed among the methods made it impossible to designate only one of the tested methods as a replacement for the others, to measure the stress in laying hens during fasting. This article assesses the role and understanding of war's most inflexible factor—time—and its associated pressures and advantages in the Russo-Ukrainian War. While there seems to be no consensus on who might prevail (and of course the elements of what constitutes victory itself can vary), the passage of time—frequently understood in military terms as endurance and exhaustion—is a useful framework to assess the direction of the war, relative advantage at various stages, who may ultimately prevail, and under what conditions that may be possible. Although timetables and schedules have played an enormous role in military history, there appears to be no systematic assessment of the role of time in relation to strategy and victory in the Russo-Ukrainian war. To determine the timing of inflammation in gas and gasoline combustion engines, the point of 10% mass fraction conversion of fuel (MFB10) is commonly used. The MFB10 can be determined from the heating curve, which in turn is calculated from the in-cylinder pressure curve. However, the cylinder pressure is an indirect parameter with regard to inflammation, as it is the result of the combustion that follows the inflammation. An attempt is made to derive a new, direct parameter of inflammation based on optical measurements in order to detect inflammation more rapidly and accurately. The background-oriented Schlieren technique (BOS) in combination with high-magnification optics and a high-speed camera is used to detect local density changes coming from the particle wave around the ignition kernel of a hydrogen combustion inside a combustion chamber. Via BOS and regular high-magnification high-speed imaging, the influence of ignition coil dwell time and in-cylinder pressure on the spark phases and the inflammation itself are evaluated. As a potential direct parameter for inflammation, the size of the particle wave resulting from the expanding ignition kernel is evaluated. It was found that a higher coil energy supports a faster propagation of the particle wave at ambient pressure. At higher pressures, general combustion effects override the effect of the influence of the coil energy on the propagation speed of the particle wave. In addition, the presence of successful inflammation was found to influence the spark phases.
