The bursting of gas bubbles during the melting process in nuclear decommissioning generates radioactive aerosols, causing the internal exposure of workers. In contrast to external exposure, real-time measurements and visual management cannot be applied to internal exposure cases. This study evaluated the degree of internal exposure of workers at the Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant plasma melting facility by analyzing the data on nuclides and concentrations collected from a HEPA filter. The radiation exposure scenario was selected considering the working environment, nuclides, concentrations, working time, activity median aerodynamic diameter, and chemical form. Based on the research results of Russian, Soviet and foreign archaeologists, anthropologists, geneticists and art historians, an attempt has been made to trace the process of formation of the artistic culture and decorative and applied art of descendants, who by the 10th –11th centuries took part in shaping of the Crimean mountain people, the Tats of the Crimea, the ancestors of the ethnographic groups of the modern Crimean Tatar people – the southern coastal and mountain Crimean Tatars, as well as of the Greco-Tatars – the Urums of the Azov region. And also to try to characterize the culture and decorative arts of the aboriginal and immigrant ethnic groups of the Crimean peninsula, who later took part in the process of ancient cultural genesis of the population of the mountainous and southern coastal Crimea. It also shows the initial stage of the process of cultural genesis of the steppe and foothill Crimean Tatars, which was going on parallel to the process of cultural genesis and formation of the artistic culture of the Tats of the mountainous and southern coastal Crimean Tatars.

The article is considered astronomical and calendarian meaning of the petroglyth on the overlapping of the dolmen "Dudugush-1". As shown enclosing in the circle the branches of the saltire note the key points of the year solar cycle (sunrises and sunsets in the winter and summer solstice) and the angles between them on the horizon match extreme points of sunrises (sunsets) at the latitude of the monument. Seven holes arranged in 2 rows in the eastern part of the petroglyph show geliokalny rising of the Pleiades in the vernal equinox and (or) the evening sunrise in the the autumnal equinox. In a similar way the Pleiades were showed in many cultures at different times since the Paleolithic. The hole on the west side notes of particular importance in terms sunset at equinox. In this article there are also the image of the Pleiades in other monuments of dolmen culture and possible value in the culture of the builders of dolmens of the constellations Taurus and Orion. Such an interpretation of signs is reliably confirmed the orientation and location of monuments in space significant numbers of calendar in the ranks of the ornament and designs themselves are dolmens way macrocosm

This article draws on the concept of sensemaking and sensegiving to examine how the failure of a project, TAURUS, influenced the successful development of an innovative security settlement system, CREST, which has shaped the computerisation of the wholesale UK financial industry. We use a historiographic interpretative approach to analyse publicly available documents, via three theoretical constructs that have emerged from combining business history and organisational studies literature. First, we define historical sensegiving as the ability to shape contextually the way others make sense of complex historical situations. Second, we establish the sensemaking of failure, which is the ability to make sense of failure in a historical context. Finally, we find that historical enactment supports the creation of structures and events by bracketing them in a historical context. We coin the term 'creative failure' to characterise how failure can be reimagined as a route to creative success through a sensemaking process. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Irrigable farmland is very limited in the Central Taurus Mountain region of Turkey. Most of the rain-fed land has been used for cultivation of wheat and chickpeas. Despite the increase in input costs in recent years, wheat and chickpea prices have not increased in parallel and therefore, large agricultural areas have been left empty. Almond performs well in such karstic areas of water scarcity. The introduction of new high-yield American, Spanish, and French varieties offers an opportunity to the local farmers. However, the terrain is highly fragmented and most of the plots are used for subsistence farming. Therefore, establishing an orchard is a very expensive prospect for low-income villagers. The stages of establishing an almond orchard in the karstic area in the Taurus Mountain region of southern Turkey are explained in this study and the approximate costs are summarized. Establishing a 1-ha almond orchard was estimated to cost about 45,000 Turkish liras, based on 2017–2018 figures. Even though expenses for establishing an almond orchard may vary among sites depending on the terrain, factors such as seedling variety, fencing, and site preparation (involving soil excavation) make up about 45% of the total cost. Bos indicus typically perform better than Bos taurus when consuming a low-quality diet; however, the response to supplementation is generally greater in B. taurus. The underlying mechanisms supporting these responses have not been fully elucidated. Characterization of differences in rumen prokaryotic populations and their functional role in the two subspecies may provide additional insight. Ten cannulated steers (5 Angus and 5 Brahman) were used in concurrent 5 x 5 Latin squares. Animals were offered ad libitum access to rice straw (4.7% CP). Treatments consisted of an unsupplemented control diet and two levels (50 or 120 mg N/kg BW) of isonitrogenous supplements (30% CP), that were either high (H; 74%) or low (L; 26%) in undegradable intake protein. Rumen samples were collected at 0 and 4 h postfeeding and separated into liquid and solid fractions. Rumen bacterial taxa were sequenced utilizing a Roche 454 platform based on the 16s rRNA gene. At 97% sequence similarity, 97,826 operational taxonomic units were identified, which included 24 phyla, 108 families, and 255 genera. Analysis included SAS PROC mixed model, QIIME, and PICRUSt. Across all samples, Bacteroidetes and Firmicutes accounted for 65% and 28% of total bacterial abundance, respectively. The families Prevotellaceae (P = 0.05) and Ruminococcaceae (P = 0.004) and the genera Prevotellaceae (family; P = 0.003) within the phyla Bacteroidetes differed significantly in relative abundance with added protein when compared to the control. Consistent differences in the relative abundance of family and genus taxa between B. indicus and B. taurus suggest roles the symbiotic rumen microbiome may have in the capacity of B. indicus to utilize low-quality forage over a range of supplement types and levels including (Prevotella, Ruminococcus [family], Sphingobacteriaceae [family], Bacteroidales [order], Pontibacter, Bacteroides, Succiclasticum, Barnesiella, and Xylanibacter). Overall bacterial community diversity differences across parameters were limited. Rice straw is recalcitrant to bacterial digestion because of high levels of silica in the epidermis making this straw more resistant to bacterial attachment. Thus, this analysis represents the bacterial diversity and function of the rumen under conditions depleted CP, recalcitrant fiber matrix and restricted digestibility which appear to limit the microbial population to those capable of attaching and digesting complexed structural carbohydrates, resulting in reduced plasticity, and more evenness in diversity across parameters. A summary of the astronomical beliefs of four tribes Gond, Banjara, Kolam and Korku from Nagpur region of Maharashtra has been presented. Primary conclusions are that the tribals are mainly focused on the winter sky with Big Dipper (Saptarshi), the Orion region including Orion, Taurus, Auriga, Gemini, Canis Major and Pleiades. They are also quite conscious of the Southern Cross (Crux) and the region around it. Many tribes are aware of Scorpius but are often unable to define its location in the sky. Gonds are aware of the Great Square of Pegasus and of Leo. We discuss these beliefs in the background of the region of the sky that occupies them and the similarity and differences in their beliefs of these regions. A rich shallow water conodont fauna with Idiognathodusincurvus DUNN, I . cf. suberectus (DUNN), Idioprioniodus sp., and Neognathodus columbiensis STIBANE was found in the lower part of the Kongul Formation of the Bolkardagù Unit, about 12 km NW of Hadim town, central Taurus, Turkey. The conodonts indicate a middle to late Atokan age (on the American scale) for this part of the formation. On the Russian scale, the fauna corresponds to the middle Moscovian. According to previous correlations between the Russian and NorthAmerican scales, a (middle) late Atokan (middle Moscovian age) isassumed for this fauna.Variscan deep-water sequences are not present in the study area.

Contemporary debate on Plato's cosmogony often assumes that the 'literal' reading of the Timaeus yields an account of creation, while the view that the cosmos always existed is non-literal. In antiquity, Taurus has been seen as a forerunner of the 'nonliteral' interpretation. This paper shows, on the contrary, that Taurus' argument for the sempiternity of the cosmos is a literalist one, relying on a strict linguistic analysis of Timaeus 28b6-8. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aim of this study was to analyze the distribution and characteristics of runs of homozygosity in Bos taurus taurus and Bos taurus indicus breeds, as well as their crosses, farmed all around the world. With this aim in view, we used single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) genotypes for 3,263 cattle belonging to 204 different breeds. After quality control, 23,311 SNPs were retained for the analysis. Animals were divided into seven different groups: 1) continental taurus, 2) temperate taurus, 3) temperate indicus, 4) temperate composite, 5) tropical taurus, 6) tropical indicus, and 7) tropical composite. The climatic zones were created according to the latitude of the breeds' country of origin: i) continental, latitude ≥ 45°; ii) temperate, 45°< Latitude >23.26°; iii) tropics, latitude ≤ 23.26°. Runs of homozygosity were computed as 15 SNPs spanning in at least 2 Mb; number of ROH per animal (nROH), average ROH length (meanMb), and ROH-based inbreeding coefficients (FROH) were also computed. Temperate indicus showed the largest nROH, whereas Temperate taurus the lowest value. Moreover, the largest meanMb was observed for Temperate taurus, whereas the lowest value for Tropics indicus. Temperate indicus breeds showed the largest FROH values. Genes mapped in the identified ROH were reported to be associated with the environmental adaptation, disease resistance, coat color determinism, and production traits. Abstract: Foraminifera have proven to be reliable biostratigraphic indicators. Accordingly, Triassic and Early Jurassic benthic Foraminifera allow us to define a biostratigraphic zonation within the carbonate platform of Kayseri (Yahyalı), Göksun (Kahramanmaraş) and Sivas (Deliktaş) regions in the Eastern Taurus (Ceviz, Aladağ, Kaman and Felfan Mountains). Seven new stratigraphic sections are described in detail and the first precise inventory and illustration of the benthic foraminifer assemblages from the Triassic successions are presented over a large geographic area. The stratigraphic and palaeontological features of the Lower Mesozoic carbonate units of these mountains include several synchronous transgressive–regressive events that suggest continuity of the Lower Mesozoic environments over a large parautochthonous Taurus zone. Palaeogeographic considerations about the Eastern Taurus carbonates are given, evidencing three stages of development underwent by the studied area: 1) a stable continental margin from Lower Triassic to Lower Cretaceous; 2) a dismantling of the continental margin and first emplacement of ophiolites in the Upper Cretaceous; and 3) a deformation of the continental margin and emplacement of the Peridotite Nappe in the uppermost Cretaceous (Maastrichtian). Using breed differences effectively facilitates high productivity and profitability. Thus, the objective of the study was to estimate direct and maternal additive and heterosis effects for growth traits (birth weight, weaning weight, 19-month weight of heifers and cow weight) from five purebred and 24 crossbred breed types. Afrikaner (A), Brahman (B), Charolais (C), Hereford (H) and Simmentaler (S) were evaluated as purebreds and as sire breeds on A and F1 BA, CA, HA and SA females. Breed additive effects were expressed as deviations from A. Effects of intra-breed genetic trend were assumed to be zero throughout. Solutions for the breed additive and heterosis effects were used to predict performance of the crossbred breed types to verify the adequacy of the genetic model. Correlations of observed and predicted means ranged from 0.87 for weaning weight to 0.94 for 19-month weight. Breed direct effects were consistently greatest for C and least for A across all traits, and maternal effects were greatest for S (except for 19-month weight) and least for C. Direct and maternal heterosis, on average, were positive for all weights. The indicus x sanga and indicus x taurus direct heterosis effects on all weight traits were greater than either the taurus x sanga or taurus x taurus effects, whereas the indicus x sanga maternal heterosis effect was consistently less than the estimated taurus x sanga maternal heterosis effect. Background Natural selection has molded evolution across all taxa. At an arguable date of around 330,000 years ago there were already at least two different types of cattle that became ancestors of nearly all modern cattle, the Bos taurus taurus more adapted to temperate climates and the tropically adapted Bos taurus indicus. After domestication, human selection exponentially intensified these differences. To better understand the genetic differences between these subspecies and detect genomic regions potentially under divergent selection, animals from the International Bovine HapMap Experiment were genotyped for over 770,000 SNP across the genome and compared using smoothed FST. The taurine sample was represented by ten breeds and the contrasting zebu cohort by three breeds. Results Each cattle group evidenced similar numbers of polymorphic markers well distributed across the genome. Principal components analyses and unsupervised clustering confirmed the wellcharacterized main division of domestic cattle. The top 1% smoothed FST, potentially associated to positive selection, contained 48 genomic regions across 17 chromosomes. Nearly half of the top FST signals (n = 22) were previously detected using a lower density SNP assay. Amongst the strongest signals were the BTA7:~50 Mb and BTA14:~25 Mb; both regions harboring candidate genes and different patterns of linkage disequilibrium that potentially represent intrinsic differences between cattle types. The bottom 1% of the smoothed FST values, potentially associated to balancing selection, included 24 regions across 13 chromosomes. These regions often overlap with copy number variants, including the highly variable region at BTA23:~24 Mb that harbors a large number of MHC genes. Under these regions, 318 unique Ensembl genes are annotated with a significant overrepresentation of immune related pathways. Conclusions Genomic regions that are potentially linked to purifying or balancing selection processes in domestic cattle were identified. These regions are of particular interest to understand the natural and human selective pressures to which these subspecies were exposed to and how the genetic background of these populations evolved in response to environmental challenges and human manipulation. Many of Sokurov's films, features as well as documentaries, are characterised by scant or subdued dialogue and/or voice-over narration. This aesthetic style of the predominance of visual over verbal expression is understood as a direct expression of Sokurov's concern with mortality and death. The argument proceeds from a semiotic distinction between language as basically discrete and moving pictures as basically indiscrete. By subduing the discrete semantics of language, Sokurov gives precedence to the potential of moving images to pursue the indiscrete flow of human life as it moves inevitably towards the moment of death, to the vanishing point of human existence. Six films are examined: The Lonely Voice of Man (Odinokij golos celoveka); Whispering Pages (Tichie stranicy) and Spiritual Voices (Duchovnye golosa); Moloch, Taurus (Telec) and The Sun. The first three films reveal quietness as a mode of contemplation in the face of death, while the last three feature the three despots, Hitler, Lenin and Hirohito, in political retreat. Abstract: Accident reconstructionists are often faced with damage patterns and locations on vehicles that are not well defined by available barrier impact data. One such example is a frontal underride collision. Underride impacts occur when there is a height mismatch between the primary structural components of the impacting vehicles, and the vehicle with the lower height is forced beneath the structure of the other vehicle. The lack of structural engagement typically allows for significantly different damage patterns due to the inherently lower stiffness of the underriding vehicle''s contacting surfaces coupled with complex interactions between varying surfaces. In this study, a series of two-vehicle impact tests between a small pickup (bullet vehicle) and a large dump truck (target vehicle) were performed and studied. These tests involved a severe underride configuration in which the dump truck bed''s vertical alignment was above the base of the windshield of the pickup. Coupled with these impacting surfaces was a single vertical support, a remnant of a commonly referred to ICC (Interstate Commerce Commission) bumper, which caused a narrow object-type impact, but did not extend down to the pickup''s bumper. Multiple prior authors’ analytical and empirical relationships to predict impact speed based on crush damage were evaluated using the results of these tests as well as other published underride tests. No single model was sufficient at predicting the mixed mode of impact present in these impact scenarios. However, a system of equations was developed to predict the impact parameters utilizing a combination of previously reported methods and a new empirical relationship presented in this study. This new method shows high correlation and supports the authors’ hypothesis that separate crush models can be applied to multiple discrete areas of a vehicle and then combined to form a more complete predictive systematic model. In this study, trace element and organic matter-trace element relation between Jurassic coals exposed in three different fields in the eastern Taurides were examined and their enrichment values with respect to upper crust values were calculated and the coal characteristics were also compared with world arithmetic means and those from the U.S. In comparison to the Feke and Kızılinc coals, Pb, Zn, Ag, and Hg element contents of the Gedikli coals are considerably high; Ni, As, and Ge contents are moderately high; and Cr, Cu, Co, Cd, Sb, Ga, and Sn contents are slightly high. The element concentrations are very similar to those of other fields. In the Gedikli coals, Sr content is extremely low and Ba content is slightly low with respect to other fields. Re, Mo, U, V, and B element concentrations are different for each of three fields. The major element contents of the Feke, Gedikli, and Kızılinc coals were correlated with world arithmetic means and average values of coals from the U.S. and Fe, K, Mg, and Na concentrations were found to be similar. Ti and Al contents of the world and USA coals are higher while Ca and Mn concentrations are lower. Considering trace element contents of the world and U.S. coals, Ba is considerably high, Cu and Zr are moderately high, and Ga, Rb, and Sc elements are slightly high. In comparison to world arithmetic means and U.S. coals, Sr content of the Feke and Kızılinc coals are very high while those of the Gedikli coals are lower. For major and trace elements, factors of enrichment with respect to upper crust values were also calculated. The highest enrichment values were calculated for Ca and S. Lower Miocene conglomerates in the Köprü and Manavgat basins contain pebbles that can be confidently traced back to their source areas, owing to their distinctive lithologies. Among others, are the green Huğlu volcanics (Late Trias), known only in allochthonous units from the Beyşehir region, or the Alanya blueschists, restricted to the Sugözü unit in the Alanya Massif. The problem is to find out how this detrital material could have travelled about eighty kilometres through the Taurus calcareous units during the Miocene. Fortunately, the present drainage system is not yet fully reorganised in the Taurus, and large areas of the chain still retain fossil morphologies. These may be seen in the upper karstic areas of the chain, where a large part of a high surface (1500-2200 m) is preserved. On this surface several dry valleys, some of them 400 m deep, with meanders and tributaries, have been recognised. They are disconnected from the present drainage, and represent fragments of a former network directed NE-SW, at right angles to the structures of the Taurus chain. The age of this network may be attributed indirectly to the Early Miocene. On the other hand, the presence of blueschist fragments in conglomerates of the Aksu Basin cannot be explained through a NE-SW-directed drainage system, and implies instead that the Alanya Massif extends to the west below the Miocene cover of the Antalya Gulf. Later, Late Miocene faulting fragmented the high surface and disrupted the drainage system. Uplift of the Taurus chain followed in the Pliocene and Quaternary, and is responsible for the extensive karstic circulation seen today, which left aside remnants of the ancient morphology of the chain. Two colonial serpulid worm tubes— Filograna taurica n. sp. and Filograna serialis n. sp.—from the Upper Triassic (Norian) reef boulders occurring in Taurus Mts. (south Turkey) are described. As bafflers, both species of Filograna build microbioherms reaching dimensions of up to 15 cm. Both species were not known either in Turkey or in any other Triassic localities of the Tethyan realm. Abstract: A post-extinction calcimicrobial cap rock occurs above the giant Permian skeletal carbonate platform exposed in the western Taurus Mountains (southern Turkey). It was formed during the main step of a very rapid and large-scale platform flooding (Earliest Triassic) and has been found also in other Tethyan localities. This calcimicrobial cap rock, 20 to 40 m thick, consists of thrombolitic and stromatolitic build-ups at the base and most oolitic grainstone in the upper part. It was terminated by a sudden input of fine terrigenous sediments. The domal, columnar and conical stromatolites are ‘anachronistic’ deposits as are the abundant botryoidal and fanning aragonite crystal pseudomorphs. Abstract: Three related basins in southern Turkey, the Ecemiş Basin, the Karsanti Basin and the Aktoprak Basin, document the Neogene-Recent regional exhumation and surface uplift history of the Central Taurus Mountains. The regional tectonic framework was established by a Late Eocene phase of compressional deformation that ended Tethys-related marine deposition. During the Oligocene–Early Miocene non-marine sedimentation was dominantly from braided rivers flowing from the nascent Taurus Mountains and from the Niğde metamorphic massif further north. During this period erosion more or less kept pace with exhumation and the topography remained subdued, allowing a marine incursion (probably eustatically controlled) into the Karsanti Basin in the east during Early Oligocene time. Regional exhumation was possibly controlled by thermal uplift of an actively extending area located behind the subducting S-Neotethys in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea. During exhumation, largely ophiolitic rocks were eroded, revealing the deformed Mesozoic Tauride carbonate platform beneath. The area was affected by a short-lived pulse of compressional deformation/transpression, probably in Mid-Miocene time, but extensional exhumation then resumed, as indicated by the presence of metamorphic-derived clasts from the adjacent Niğde Massif. Late Miocene deposition was dominated by large inward-draining lakes, consistent with regional evidence of a humid climate during this time. Strong surface uplift took place during Plio-Quaternary time. Drainage to the Mediterranean became established, allowing river valleys to incise deeply into the flanks of the Taurus Mountains. Palaeo-valleys were successively infilled with coarse alluvial sediments. This deposition was influenced by NE–SW trending extensional faults. In addition, the sedimentary evolution of the area was strongly influenced by the NNE–SSW trending Ecemiş Fault Zone, which has experienced ca. 60 km of left-lateral strike-slip since the Late Eocene. An important pulse of normal faulting/transtension in latest Miocene–early Pliocene time generated large fault scarps. These acted as sources for large Plio-Quaternary alluvial fans, which prograded across active strike-slip faults. The morphology of these fans was influenced by a combination of Quaternary climatic change, axial-fluvial downcutting and active strike-slip tectonics.
