As lack of interaction has been cited as a central reason for reduced academic motivation during online learning and given gratitude's crucial role in forming and maintaining interpersonal relationships, this study examined the association between gratitude and academic motivation. Recent systematic reviews and meta-analyses have found psychological needs satisfaction to be related to autonomous motivation and indicators of well-being. As such, this study also examined the mediating role of psychological needs satisfaction on the relationship between gratitude and academic motivation during online learning among undergraduates in Malaysia. Two hundred and fifty students who are pursuing their tertiary education in private universities across the country filled in an online survey. Results revealed that there is a significant positive relationship between gratitude and autonomous academic motivation and a significant negative relationship between gratitude and academic amotivation. Gratitude, however, is not significantly associated with controlled academic motivation. Further, it was found that psychological needs satisfaction significantly mediates the relationships between gratitude and autonomous academic motivation as well as gratitude and academic amotivation. Psychological needs satisfaction, however, does not significantly mediate the relationship between gratitude and controlled academic motivation. These findings provide insights into addressing the problem of declining academic motivation during online learning.

Background: Acute pulmonary embolism (APE) is the third most common cause of vascular death. Data on APE from India and other low-and middle-income countries is sparse. Objectives: Study the clinical characteristics, prognostic factors, in-hospital mortality (IMH) and 12 months mortality of patients with APE in India. Methods: We prospectively enrolled 186 consecutive patients diagnosed with APE between November 2016 and November 2021 in Madras Medical College Pulmonary Embolism Registry (M-PER). All patients had electrocardiography and echocardiography. High risk patients and selected intermediate risk patients underwent fibrinolysis. Results: 75 % of our patients were below 50 years of age. 35 % were women. The mean time to presentation from symptom onset was 6.04 ± 10.01 days. 92 % had CT pulmonary angiography. Intermediate risk category (61.3 %) was the more common presentation followed by high risk (26.9 %). Electrocardiography showed S1Q3T3 pattern in 56 %. 76 % had right ventricular dysfunction and 12.4 % had right heart thrombi(RHT) by echocardiography. 50.5 % received fibrinolysis. Patients with RHT received fibrinolysis more frequently (78.3 % vs 46.6 %; p = 0.007). In-hospital mortality (IHM) was 15.6 %. Systemic arterial desaturation and need for mechanical ventilation independently predicted IHM. Ten patients (5.3 %) were lost to follow up. One year mortality was 26.7 % (47/176). One year mortality of patients discharged alive was similar among high, intermediate and low risk groups(14.8 % vs 1.9 % vs 10.5 %; p = 0.891). Conclusions: Patients with PE are often young and present late in India. The in-hospital and 12 months mortality were high. Low and intermediate risk groups had a high post discharge mortality similar to high risk patients.

IntroductionDespite broad consensus about multicultural experience's benefits, there is a lack of research on the antecedents to multicultural experiences. Research has indicated that awe shifts attention away from the self toward larger entities, which could include elements of other cultures.MethodsFour studies (N = 2915) tested whether trait, daily, and induced awe promoted multicultural experience.ResultsStudies 1-2 (adolescents, young, middle, and older adults) showed that trait awe predicted greater multicultural identity and experience independent of other positive emotions and openness. Study 3 (students & adults in U.S. & Malaysia) demonstrated that daily awe predicted more daily multicultural experience independent of yesterday's multicultural experience. These results were explained by trait and daily curiosity. Study 4 (adults) found that induction of awe increased state multicultural identity and experience via state curious emotions and then state curious personality.ConclusionWe found that experiencing more awe can be a tool for enhancing the multicultural experience. The discussion focuses on the implications for future research on awe and multicultural experiences.

Crossed renal ectopia is a rare congenital malformation. Only 36 cases of crossed renal ectopia with calculus have been recorded in literature, even a few cases of urolithiasis in them have been surgically managed. The majority of cases in literature have been published as single case reports. We conducted a retrospective study of all the crossed renal ectopia cases admitted and managed in our department in the past 2 years. Among them, only one was without fusion. Youngest patient was 32-year-old male with crossed left kidney with calculus in the left kidney. Both the patients underwent retrograde intrarenal surgery (RIRS). Oldest patient was 80-year-old female with a right crossed kidney with pelvic calculus, who underwent open pyelolithotomy. Post-operative period was uneventful in all cases with complete stone clearance. Patients undergoing RIRS had less post-operative pain and were discharged early compared to open pyelolithotomy. RIRS is a safe and effective modality of treatment and can be considered as the first choice for the management of calculus in crossed renal ectopia in properly selected cases. However, in cases of huge stone burden and difficult anatomy, laparoscopic/open pyelolithotomy is still an attractive option for clearing the stone in a single setting, even though it has comparatively more morbidity and longer hospital stay.

N-[2-(7-methoxynaphthalen-1-yl) ethyl] acetamide (AGL), a potentially antidepressant chemical molecule, was examined through quantum computational investigations and assessed using theoretical DFT analysis. The different functional groups are identified using FT-IR analysis and these results are contrasted against the simulated spectra. The modes of oscillations were analysed theoretically. The HOMO-LUMO band gap energy was determined for both gaseous and solvent phases (water, methanol, ethanol, and DMSO). Molecular Electrostatic Potential predictions are done to analyse the electrophilic and nucleophilic centres. UV–Vis spectra is performed for the title compound in various solvent. Fukui function, Mulliken charges, ELF, LOL, and RDG were also analysed theoretically. Additionally, molecular docking studies also explored, hydrogen bond length and binding energy were determined. The bioactivity of the compound is recognised by these present studies.
