In this article, I shall discuss participation - the artist's role and responsibility in participation, and the potentials of participatory textile projects in the public space. In doing so, I will focus on The stitch project (2012-). This project involves public interaction through acts of tactile textile making such as stitching on a tablecloth. I have based this study within a context of understanding matter and the embodiment of participation from feminist (Ahmed, 2006; Butler, 1988) and new materialist (Barad, 2003; Coole & Frost, 2010; Garber, 2019) perspectives. I am interested in the interactive aspects of The stitch project and how these aspects relate to the concepts of diapraxis (Nunes, 2019) and al masha (Hilal & Petti, 2018). In regard to these terms, I aim to examine the potentials and challenges of participatory textile art projects, like The stitch project, by examining their social and material aspects as well as the complexities of inclusion and participation. The aim of the research was to modernize the typographic cultural heritage, which was an integral part of our ancestors' living culture, i.e. embroidered wall tablecloths that adorned many households from the late 19th and to the second half of the 20th century. We analysed rare preserved embroidered wall tablecloths from the Podravina area in Croatia. For modern use, we designed a digitized typeface based on hand-embroidered letters on preserved tablecloths. The digitization process consisted of several phases: collecting embroidered tablecloths, photographing and measuring them, structural and typographic analysis, determining parameters for typeface design, the design and digitization, making appropriate metrics for modern use. From 20 samples, three were chosen with the most aesthetic and best quality embroidered letters. Numerous capital letters, digits and non-letter signs that were not found on the analysed wall tablecloths were designed by us. Stylistically, all letter and non-letter characters were unified. The most time-consuming was the coordination of linking strokes between letters, for the empty spaces between the letters in words being optically equal. The digitization of school handwriting was a demanding job. In the newly designed kitchen towels, we wanted to convey some elements from the life, habits and values of our ancestors. The Czech Republic is in the first place in the consumption of beer in the world, in 2022 this consumption was 140 l / person, beer culture and tradition is very deeply rooted here. Since 2010, there has been a significant increase in the number of mini-breweries in the Czech Republic and an expansion of domestic beer brewing. Production of mini-breweries represents for about two and a half percent of the total production of the Czech Republic. As the number of microbreweries grows, so does the competitive pressure in this segment. What marketing communication tools used at the point of sale are most important for owners of mini-breweries in connection with competitiveness is the area covered in this paper. The research took place in 2022, the data were obtained by the method of a questionnaire survey, using electronic questioning within the entire research sample, 504 mini-breweries as of 31 December 2021. The return of the questionnaire was 56%, surveyed sample consists of 282 mini-breweries. According to the research results, the most important tools of marketing communication in connection with the competitiveness of mini-breweries are glasses, labels, a signboard and excursions. On the contrary, sales, tablecloths and paid tastings are the least important for owners of mini-breweries in connection with their competitiveness. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Detection of ignitable liquid residues in a fire scene is essential for determining the origin. Although studies are focused on the detection of residues of accelerants depending on time or matrices, the time-dependent effect of the water extinguishing method in a fire has not yet been investigated. Experimental studies are needed to determine how long ignitable liquid residues can be detected in water-extinguished evidence compared to the smothering method. In this study, the effects of both extinguishing methods on gasoline residues were investigated after burning of carpet, sofa fabric, tablecloth, and towel by Solid Phase Micro Extraction- Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry (SPME-GC/MS) technique. Four mandatory and 14 additional compounds were considered to prove the gasoline residue after the monitoring of possible interferences. Results showed that gasoline residues on the burned carpet and sofa fabric samples were successfully detected in both extinguishing methods up to 60 and 30 days after fire exposure, respectively due to multi-layered structures of related substrates. Additionally, the prolonged detection time of the water-extinguishing method made it particularly beneficial for single-layered products like tablecloths, where gasoline residues were found after an hour in this substrate. This is the first study investigating the effects of the extinguishing methods depending on time for textile products, which are the most used materials in houses. In addition, the fact that acrylamide-containing sofa fabric was investigated for the first time and that gasoline residues in carpet samples can be detected up to 60 days makes this study stand out. Copper was discovered near Mount Hope in 1873 by Robert Fisher a shepherd on Coan Downs station. Further prospecting discovered other nearby copper deposits and later, areas of gold mineralisation. The main Mount Hope copper mine was worked intermittently until 1919. Further south, the Mount Hope South and Great Central copper mines were worked between 1881 and 1898. Minor, sporadic gold production occurred at Mount Allen, Mount Dromedary and Mount Solitary after 1891. Copper mining at Mount Hope was characterised by short periods of success and profit with intervening lulls of inactivity and financial loss. This history reflected the fluctuating copper price and a production cost structure hampered by difficulties inherent in the remote, semi-arid location and the style of operations. The break-even point for profit was frequently too close to the prevailing copper price. The story of Mount Hope also highlights the importance of railways to the success of early mining in remote areas of Australia. If the railway had reached Mount Hope in the 1890s operations would have been more profitable and possibly more persistent. The towns that developed near Mount Hope were almost totally dependent on the mines for their existence. Mining history and community history were thus particularly entwinned with dramatic fluctuations in population following the erratic fortunes of the mines. Despite a precarious existence, or perhaps because of it, the towns of Mount Hope and South Mount Hope had a strong community spirit. Under the leadership of several key personalities, residents made strident efforts to improve facilities and living conditions in a very trying environment. Despite the challenged contention that consumers serve more onto larger dinnerware, it remains unclear what would cause this and who might be most at risk. The results of five studies suggest that the neglected Delboeuf illusion may explain how the size of dinnerware creates two opposing biases that lead people to over-serve on larger plates and bowls and underserve on smaller ones. A countercyclical sinus-shaped relationship is shown to exist between these serving biases and the relative gap between the edge of the food and the edge of the dinnerware. Although these serving biases are difficult to eliminate with attention and education, changing the color of one's dinnerware or tablecloth may help attenuate them. By showing that the Delboeuf illusion offers a mechanistic explanation for how dinnerware size can bias serving and intake, we open new theoretical opportunities for linking illusions to eating behavior and suggest how simple changes in design can improve consumer welfare. This paper discusses the concept of personal property as an ideological construct of Soviet power in its agricultural application. The case in point is the collectivized reindeer husbandry of the Russian Far North. I argue that personal property, as it developed in Soviet agricultural history, was a critical, informally employed tool in the creation of an existentially secure, paternalistic reality, represented by the Soviet farm (sovkhoz). "Sovkhoism" is introduced as a cover term for the practices and general worldview symbolized by the sovkhoz. A methodological claim I make is that reindeer husbandry provides the best possible example of how sovkhoism was engendered and developed. The paper also looks at post-Soviet reinterpretations of sovkhoism and makes predictions for its future. I conclude that the study of personal property and the worldview of sovkhoism calls attention to the role of mixed property categories and, further, the blurring of categorial distinctions in general. The blurring of the line between private and public (collective) property in the case discussed, with its lasting attractiveness for powered and disempowered actors alike, provides a hitherto ignored explanation for the popularity of Soviet and Soviet-like regimes.
