Abstract

This paper presents the results of modeling the features of the formation of fractal structures in thin films of tin dioxide SnO2 obtained by the sol-gel method. The process of hydrolysis of tin tetrachloride SnCl4 leads to the formation of tin acid Sn(OH)4 , which has a gel-like structure. Unstable tin acid decomposes to form water and tin dioxide. The formation of cluster structures is considered depending on the "competition" of these two processes. The nonlinear evolution of sol-gel stochastic processes leads to a fractal structure of the film clusters. The peculiarities of the formation of fractal clusters and the morphology of a thin film are estimated depending on the control (technological) parameters.

Abstract

A study of characteristics of the events of complete destruction of the projectile nucleus in the interactions between asymmetric nuclei for different initial states of the collision, is performed. In the interactions of the sulfur nuclei with heavy emulsion nuclei at energy 200 AGeV, anomalous high number of events the complete destruction of the projectile nuclei, is observed. The high probability of such events depends on the energy of interaction (it is not detected in the interactions of the sulfur nuclei with emulsion nuclei at energy of 3.7 AGeV), on the degree of asymmetry of the interacting nuclei (it is not detected in interactions of the sulfur nuclei with light emulsion nuclei) and on initial state of interaction (it is not detected in peripheral collisions). These events are characterized by high multiplicity of secondary particles and narrow angular distribution at large angles (they form narrow peak in the region of small values of average pseudorapidity).

Abstract

The neutral current ${e}^{\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}}p$ cross section has been measured up to values of Bjorken $x\ensuremath{\cong}1$ with the ZEUS detector at HERA using an integrated luminosity of $187\text{ }\text{ }{\mathrm{pb}}^{\ensuremath{-}1}$ of ${e}^{\ensuremath{-}}p$ and $142\text{ }\text{ }{\mathrm{pb}}^{\ensuremath{-}1}$ of ${e}^{+}p$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=318\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{GeV}$. Differential cross sections in $x$ and ${Q}^{2}$, the exchanged boson virtuality, are presented for ${Q}^{2}\ensuremath{\ge}725\text{ }\text{ }{\mathrm{GeV}}^{2}$. An improved reconstruction method and greatly increased amount of data allows a finer binning in the high-$x$ region of the neutral current cross section and leads to a measurement with much improved precision compared to a similar earlier analysis. The measurements are compared to Standard Model expectations based on a variety of recent parton distribution functions.

Abstract

The photoproduction of isolated photons, both inclusive and together with a jet, has been measured with the ZEUS detector at HERA using an integrated luminosity of $374\, \mathrm{pb}^{-1}$. Differential cross sections are presented in the isolated-photon transverse-energy and pseudorapidity ranges $6 < E_T^��< 15$ GeV and $-0.7 < ��^��< 0.9,$ and for jet transverse-energy and pseudorapidity ranges $4 < E_T^{jet} < 35$ GeV and $-1.5 < ��^{jet} < 1.8,$ for exchanged-photon virtualities $Q^2 < 1$ GeV$^2$. Differential cross sections are also presented for inclusive isolated-photon production as functions of the transverse energy and pseudorapidity of the photon. Abstract

In this extended analysis using the ZEUS detector at HERA, the photoproduction of isolated photons together with a jet is measured for different ranges of the fractional photon energy, $x_��^{\mathrm{meas}}$, contributing to the photon-jet final state. Cross sections are evaluated in the photon transverse-energy and pseudorapidity ranges $6 < E_T^�� < 15$ GeV and $-0.7 < ��^�� < 0.9$, and for jet transverse-energy and pseudorapidity ranges $4 < E_T^{\rm jet} < 35$ GeV and $-1.5 < ��^{\rm jet} < 1.8$, for an integrated luminosity of 374 $\mathrm{pb}^{-1}$. The kinematic observables studied comprise the transverse energy and pseudorapidity of the photon and the jet, the azimuthal difference between them, the fraction of proton energy taking part in the interaction, and the difference between the pseudorapidities of the photon and the jet. Abstract

The data obtained by the bubble chambers and nuclear photoemulsion in the interval of energies from 4 up to 400 GeV have been analysed in the quasirapidity scale with the purpose of secondary hadrons' clasterisation study. The new method of the multiparticle correlations, independing on the energy, quasirapidity interval chosen and models, has been proposed in this work. It is shown that the density correlations of different signs in the analysed events are observed. Among their the events with maximal densities, in which the correlations factor does not differ from background beyond a double statistical error, are not observed. However are bumps at 400 GeV the values of which require an affimation.

Abstract

The ${\ensuremath{\rho}}^{0}$-meson spin alignment is studied in $\overline{p}p$ interactions at 22.4 and 12 GeV/c and in the reaction $\overline{p}p\ensuremath{\rightarrow}2{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{+}+2{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{\ensuremath{-}}+\mathrm{neutrals}$ at 5.7 GeV/c. An essential ${\ensuremath{\rho}}^{0}$-meson spin alignment is observed. The values of the ${\ensuremath{\rho}}_{00}^{T}$ element of the ${\ensuremath{\rho}}^{0}$-meson spin-density matrix in the transversity frame are 0.56 \ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{} 0.07, 0.53 \ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{} 0.05, and 0.54 \ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{} 0.04 for the above-mentioned interactions, respectively. An increase of ${\ensuremath{\rho}}_{00}^{T}$ with ${\ensuremath{\rho}}^{0}$ transverse momentum is obtained.

Abstract

The results of the cross-section determination of some two-prong final states with one neutral particle (1 C-fits) in ¯pp-interactions at 22.4 GeV/c are presented. These results have been obtained from pictures of the HBC “Ludmila”. The methodical problems of the reaction selection are presented, the fulfilling of CP-invariance channels is demonstrated and the energetic behaviour of their cross-sections is analysed.

Abstract

Invariant inclusive cross-sections for π+-mesons and protons from $$\bar pp$$ reactions at 22.4 GeV/c are presented. The average multiplicity for the production of π+-mesons is 1.92±0.02 and for protons 0.41±0.02. Annihilation spectra have been approximated by using the difference between $$\bar pp$$ and pp data. The resulting distributions have similar gross features as the total $$\bar pp$$ data.

Abstract

The Bose-Einstein interference effect is studied using 7333 events of ¯pp-interactions withnch≧6 at 22·4 GeV/c. An essential dependence of the strength of this effect on the pion pair velocity is observed. An indication is obtained that processes with essentially different time characteristics (τ 2 fm) contribute to ¯pp-interactions at 22·4 GeV/c. The interpretation based on abundant resonance production in high energy collisions is discussed.

Abstract

The inclusive spectra for ¯pp collisions at 22·4 GeV/c are investigated. The transversal momentum distribution resembles the corresponding one in high energy pp interactions. The cross section in the central region is 28±mb. They *-distribution of secondary particles in the central region indicates a charge asymmetry with the asymmetry parameter having the value 0.15±0·01. The upper limit of the diffraction dissociation of the beam particle is estimated to be $$\left( {3 \cdot 68 \pm \begin{array}{*{20}c} {0 \cdot 45} \\ {0 \cdot 15} \\ \end{array} } \right)$$ mb.

The 22.4 GeV/c $$\bar p$$ p interactions with the leading particle and the slow proton subtracted are used as data on soft processes. Considerable similarity between them and hard processes, such ase + e − annihilation into hadrons, is found by means of studying charged multiplicities, KNO scaling and longitudinal as well as transverse spectra.

Abstract

The inclusive azimuthal distributions of pion pairs are studies in $$\bar pp$$ interactions at 22.4 GeV/c. The dependence of the asymmetry parameterB onn c, Δψ *, Δp ∥ * and Δp ⊥ is studied. The influence of the ρ0 and Δ++ resonance production is estimated. The results show that neither the resonance production nor the Bose-Einstein symmetry effect suffice to explain the data.

Abstract

Studying the ϱ0-meson production in ¯pp interactions at 22.4 GeV/c and in 4-prong annihilation channels of ¯pp interactions at 5.7 GeV/c, we have observed an essential ϱ0-meson spin alignment. The values of the ϱ00 element of the ϱ0-meson spin density matrix (thez-axis is directed along the normal to the production plane) are equal to 0.08 ± 0.07 and 0.55 ± 0.03, respectively, i.e. the ϱ0-meson spin lies preferably in the production plane. The absence of such an effect in pp interactions at 12 and 24 GeV/c and also the essentially larger ϱ0 production cross section in ¯pp interactions at these energies make it possible to connect the observed ϱ0-meson spin alignment with the annihilation processes. The character of the observed spin alignment is unexpected from the point of view of usual models, e.g. multiperipheral models. This effect could be described by the spontaneous polarization of quarks and antiquarks during the state preceding their recombination into mesons.

The charge asymmetries in the forward and backward directions are increasing with increasing transverse momentum. The increase seems to be present both in annihilation and non-annihilation processes.

Abstract

The inclusive and semi-inclusive production of Δ ++ (1236) is investigated in p p interactions at 22.4 GeV/ c . The Δ ++ cross section is 1.78 ± 0.18 mb in the region of | t p Δ | ⩽ 0.74 (GeV/ c ) 2 . The differential cross section has been studied as a function of transverse and longitudinal variables. Evidence for the one-pion exchange contribution to the Δ ++ inclusive process has been obtained from the decay angular distributions of the Δ ++ .

Inclusive ϱ 0 production has been investigated in p p reactions at 22.4 GeV/ c . The total cross section for ϱ 0 production is 8.1 ± 2.0 mb. The average ϱ 0 's per event is 0.17 ± 0.03. The average transverse momentum, as obtained by extrapolation of a fitted simple exponential to the p T 2 distribution, is 0.52 ± 0.12 GeV/ c . The Feynman x and c.m. rapidity distributions show ϱ 0 to be “centrally” produced.

The event shape in momentum space of pp interactions at 22.4 GeV/c has been investigated by means of the variables thrust, triplicity and dithrust. Events with clear multijet shape corresponding to the dual topological unitarization scheme predictions are not observed. The events have mainly collinear shape. A fast algorithm for the calculation of the event shape variables is proposed.

We compare the inclusive characteristics of $$\bar pp$$ interactions at 22.4 GeV/c with quark-parton model predictions in terms of collective variables. The model qualitatively agrees with the data in contradiction to the simple cylindrical phase space and randomized charge model. The ways are proposed of a further development of the quark-parton model.

Abstract

The inclusive spectra for pp collisions at 22.4 GeV/c are investigated. The invariant inclusive cross section for pions in the central region is found to be 28 ± 1 mb. A charge asymmetry is indicated by the y∗ spectrum in the central region, the asymmetry parameter having the value 0.15 ± 0.01. Finally, we estimate the upper limit of the diffraction dissociation of the beam particle to be 3.68−0.15+0.45 mb.

Abstract

InclusiveKs0, Λ and\(\bar \Lambda\)-production has been investigated in\(\bar p\)p-interactions at 22.4 GeV/c. Total and topological cross sections and multiplicity characteristics of neutral strange particles have been determined. DifferentialKs0 and Λ-cross sections and also characteristics of annihilation processes with neutral kaon production have been studied. It is shown that the difference of the shapes of the invariantx-distributions forK-mesons in the fragmentation region for annihilation and non-annihilation processes can be described in the framework of the “dual” valon model, but not by considering the current (undressed) quark recombination mechanisms only. The polarization of Λ and\(\bar \Lambda\)-hyperons has been measured.

Abstract

All p events at 22.4 GeV/c were separated into nonannihilation (N-group) and enriched annihilation (A-group) events. The mean sphericity value for the A-sample is in accordance with e+e-, K-p and π-p data. The experimental value of pT for events from the A-sample is larger than the pT value for N-events for all multiplicities. Mean charge transfer is found to be very sensitive to the dynamics of the process. The experimental value of mean charge transfer is ΔQ = -0.25 if possible particle misidentification is taken into account. The experimental data are compared with the quark-parton model predictions.

Abstract

We study forward-backward multiplicity correlations in p̄p-interactions at 22.4 GeV/c and discuss multiplicities in a simple two-component picture. When the charged particle multiplicity distribution is divided into even and odd components the probability to produce an odd state is found to be higher than the probability to produce an even state, which may be interpreted to be due to diffraction dissociation. An application of the two-component picture to the forward-backward and to the overall multiplicities is discussed.

Abstract

Experimental multiplicity distributions of antiproton diffraction dissociation and inelastic antiproton-proton interactions at 22.4 GeV/c with leading particles removed are compared withe + e − annihilation into hadrons. We find agreement with the predictions of the dual parton model.

Abstract

The connection between particle production in antiproton-proton annihilation and non-diffractive proton-proton processes is discussed in the framework of the dual unitarization scheme. We calculate relative multiplicity moments for antiproton-proton annihilation using the moments of non-diffractive proton-proton interactions and find good agreement with experimental annihilation data.
