Abstract In this paper, we explicitly calculate the lower CPT-even one-loop quantum corrections in nonminimal Lorentz-violating spinor QED with all possible CPT-even dimension-5 operators. Within our calculations, we restrict ourselves to the cases when these parameters are completely expressed in terms of one constant vector.

Abstract In this paper, we explicitly calculate the aether-like corrections for the electromagnetic field in the case when the space-time involves an extra compact spatial dimension besides of usual four dimensions. Our methodology is based on an explicit summation over the Kaluza–Klein tower of fields which turns out to be no more difficult than the finite-temperature calculations. We found some new terms which can be treated as certain five-dimensional generalizations of the aether-like terms $$\kappa ^{mnpq}F_{mn}F_{pq}$$ κ mnpq F mn F pq and $$\bar{\psi }c^{mn}\gamma _m\partial _n \psi $$ ψ ¯ c mn γ m ∂ n ψ which in four dimensions are treated as important ingredients of the Lorentz-breaking extension of the standard model. We have shown that these new terms become to dominate in the limit where the extra dimension is very small, allowing us to suggest that there will be essential modifications of quantum corrections if our space indeed has a small extra spatial dimension. Moreover, we have shown that in the CPT-even case we have extra new particles as a consequence of the extra dimension.

In this paper, we demonstrate the possibility of generating a non-Abelian Carroll–Field–Jackiw (CFJ) term in the theory of a non-Abelian gauge field coupled to a spin-3/2 field in the presence of the constant axial vector field. Applying two regularization schemes, we prove that this term is finite and ambiguous, particularly vanishing within the 't Hooft-Veltman scheme.

Abstract We consider the Lorentz-violating extended QED involving all nonminimal dimension-5 additive CPT-odd terms. For this theory, we investigate the generation of the Carroll–Field–Jackiw (CFJ) term and its higher-derivative counterparts of the first order in any of these nonminimal couplings. The CFJ term is demonstrated to vanish in the dimensional regularization scheme. We also study the question of higher-derivative divergent contributions and demonstrate that they can be eliminated by considering a given proportionality between the coefficients.

Abstract We study a class of four-fermion Gross–Neveu like models in four dimensions with critical exponents $$z=2$$ z=2 and $$z=3$$ z=3 . The models with $$z=2$$ z=2 are in general perturbatively nonrenormalizable but we show that there are in special cases renormalizable in the context of the 1/N expansion. We calculate explicitly the effective potential for these models.

Abstract We consider the four-fermion Lifshitz model, introduce in this model an auxiliary vector field, and generate an effective dynamics for this field. We explicitly demonstrate that within this dynamics, the effective bumblebee potential for the vector field naturally arises as a one-loop correction and allows for the dynamical breaking of the rotational symmetry.

In this work we study the dynamical generation of mass in the Lorentz-violating low-dimensional super-Yang–Mills theory in the aether superspace coupled to a scalar matter. We also suggest that our studies can be applied for condensed matter systems, especially lower-dimensional superconductors and topological insulators. In low dimensional materials, the parameter Δ generated by presence of the aether term can be interpreted as a quantity that renormalizes the propagation velocity of the bosonic mode with respect to the Fermi velocity.

- Abstract
In this paper, we discuss various possible schemes for the perturbative generation of the axion-photon interaction term in different Lorentz-breaking extensions of QED, involving operators with mass dimensions up to five. We demonstrate explicitly that there are only a few schemes allowing one to generate a finite axion-photon interaction term from one-loop radiative corrections, and within all these schemes, the generated term turns out to be ambiguous. Also, through the current experimental limits on the axion-photon coupling, we extract some present constraints on the Lorentz violation parameters.

In this work, we study the behavior of the nonabelian five-dimensional Chern-Simons term at finite temperature regime in order to verify the possible nonanalyticity. We employ two methods, a perturbative and a non-perturbative one. No scheme of regularization is needed, and we verify the nonanalyticity of the self-energy of the photon in the origin of momentum space by two conditions that do not commute, namely, the static limit $(k_0=0,\vec k\rightarrow 0)$ and the long wavelength limit $(k_0\rightarrow 0,\vec k= 0)$, while its tensorial structure holds in both limits., Comment: 12 pages, 2 figures, version to appear in EPL

In this paper, we develop studies of the dynamical symmetry breaking in the Horava-Lifshitz four-fermion model for the specific case $z=3$ and explicitly demonstrate that for various space-time dimensions, one could arrive at the theory displaying both dynamical generation of the Lorentz symmetry for the kinetic term and arising the positively defined potential at the same time. In this paper, we formulate a theory of the second-rank antisymmetric (pseudo)tensor field minimally coupled to a spinor, calculate the one-loop effective potential of the (pseudo)tensor field, and, explicitly, demonstrate that it is positively defined and possesses a continuous set of minima, both for tensor and pseudotensor cases. Therefore, our model turns out to display the dynamical Lorentz symmetry breaking. We also argue that, contrarily to the derivative coupling we use here, derivative-free couplings of the antisymmetric tensor field to a spinor do not generate the positively defined potential and thus do not allow for the dynamical Lorentz symmetry breaking., Comment: 16 pages, version accepted to PRD

We consider the higher-derivative Lorentz-breaking extension of QED, where the new terms are the Myers-Pospelov-like ones in gauge and spinor sectors, and the higher--derivative CFJ term. For this theory, we study its tree-level dynamics, discuss the dispersion relation, and present one more scheme for its perturbative generation, including the finite temperature case. Also, we develop a method to study perturbative unitarity based on consistent rotation of the theory to Euclidean space. We use this method to verify explicitly that for special choices of the Lorentz-breaking vector, the unitarity is preserved at the one-loop level, even in the presence of higher time derivatives., 29 pages, matches published version

We describe a Horava-Lifshitz-like reformulated four-fermion Gross-Neveu model describing the dynamics of two-component spinors in (2+1)-dimensional space-time. Within our study, we introduce the Lagrange multiplier, study the gap equation (including the finite temperature case) which turns out to display essentially distinct behaviors for even and odd values of the critical exponent z, and show that the dynamical parity breaking occurs only for the odd z. We demonstrate that for any odd z, there exists a critical temperature at which the dynamical parity breaking disappears. Besides of this, we obtain the effective propagator and show that the resulting effective theory is renormalizable within the framework of the 1/N expansion for all values of z. As one more application of the dynamical parity breaking, we consider coupling of the vector field to the fermions in the case of a simplified spinor-vector coupling and discuss the generation the Chern-Simons term.

We focus our attention on the fermion sector, represented by the CPT-even symmetric Lorentz-breaking tensor [Formula: see text]. We adopt a generic form that parametrizes the components of [Formula: see text] in terms of one four-vector, namely, [Formula: see text]. We then generate perturbatively, up to the third order in this tensor, the aether-like term for the gauge field. In this paper, we discuss the chiral anomaly in a Lorentz-breaking extension of QED which, besides the common terms that are present in the Standard Model Extension, includes some dimension-five nonminimal couplings. We find, using the Fujikawa formalism, that these nonminimal couplings induce new terms in the anomaly which depend on the Lorentz-violating parameters. Perturbative calculations are also carried out in order to investigate whether or not new ambiguous Carroll-Field-Jackiw terms are induced in the effective action., Comment: 17 pages, final version including corrections made in Errata

In this work, we study the radiative generation of the CPT-odd Lorentz-violating Chern-Simons term, arising from massless fermions. For this, we calculate the vacuum polarization tensor using the 't Hooft-Veltman regularization scheme, in which the result obtained for the coefficient of the Chern-Simons term is $(k_{AF})_\mu=-\frac{e^2}{4\pi^2}\,b_\mu$. This result leads us precisely to the same conductivity found in Weyl semimetals, i.e., the 't Hooft-Veltman regularization scheme is the correct one to be used in this context. We also discuss the temperature dependence of $(k_{AF})_\mu$, in which at high temperature, $(k_{AF})_0\to0$ and $(k_{AF})_i\to-\frac{e^2}{4\pi^2}b_i$. In the context of Weyl semimetals, these results are in accordance with the fact that the chiral magnetic current $j^\alpha=(k_{AF})_0\epsilon^{0\alpha\lambda\rho}\partial_\lambda A_\rho$ vanishes at high temperature, whereas the anomalous Hall current $j^\alpha=(k_{AF})_i\epsilon^{i\alpha\lambda\rho}\partial_\lambda A_\rho$ remains unaffected by the finite temperature., Comment: 13 pages, accepted for publication in Europhys. In this paper, we describe the generation of the CPT-even, aether-like terms via the new CPT-even magnetic-like coupling. We carry out a study the loop corrections generated by this coupling. Previous investigations has been initiated on this issue and we have extended them to studying of higher-point functions, of quantum corrections to vertices of the interaction and to two-point function of the spinor field., 22 pages, version accepted to J. In this work, we study the radiative generation of the Lorentz-violating Euler-Heisenberg action, in the weak field approximation. For this, we first consider a nonperturbative calculation in the coefficient $c_{\mu\nu}$, however, by assuming rotational invariance. Within this approach, we also obtain the results of the amplitude for the photon triple splitting. In the following, we take into account the perturbative approach, where $c_{\mu\nu}$ is treated as a insertion in the propagator and a new vertex. The partial results are in fact an expansion up to first order in $c_{\mu\nu}$ of the nonperturbative ones, with $c_{00}=\kappa$ and $c_{0i}=c_{ij}=0$. This suggest that the complete results obtained in the nonperturbative approach can be used in both treatments., Comment: 15 pages, 5 figures, accepted for publication in Phys. Rev. D

In this paper, we describe the perturbative generation of the higher-derivative Lorentz-breaking terms for the gauge field, that is, the Myers-Pospelov term and the higher-derivative Carroll-Field-Jackiw term. These terms are explicitly calculated in the one-loop approximation and shown to be finite and ambiguous., 12 pages, version accepted to PRD

We study the radiatively induced Lorentz-violating terms at finite temperature, namely, the higher-derivative term and the Chern-Simons term. These terms are induced by integrating out the fermions coupled to the coefficient $g^{\kappa\mu\nu}$. The calculation of the resulting expressions is performed by using the derivative expansion and the Matsubara formalism. The Chern-Simons terms is nonzero only at finite temperature, whereas the higher-derivative term is finite at zero temperature, however, it goes to zero as the temperature grows to infinity. We also obtain a higher-derivative Chern-Simons term, nevertheless, it vanishes asymptotically., Comment: 12 pages, 4 figures, revtex4; v2: EPL version

The first higher derivative term of the photon sector of Lorentz-violating QED, with operator of mass dimension $d=5$, is radiatively induced from the fermion sector, in which contains a derivative term with the dimensionless coefficient $g^{\lambda\mu\nu}$. The calculation is performed perturbatively in the coefficient for Lorentz violation, and due to the fact that the contributions are quadratically divergent, we adopt dimensional regularization., Comment: 7 pages, revtex4; v2: references and a new section added, version to appear in Phys. In a 4D chiral Thirring model we analyse the possibility that radiative corrections may produce spontaneous breaking of Lorentz and CPT symmetry. By studying the effective potential, we verified that the chiral current $\bar\psi\gamma^{\mu} \gamma_5 \psi$ may assume a nonzero vacuum expectation value which triggers the Lorentz and CPT violations. Furthermore, by making fluctuations on the minimum of the potential we dynamically induce a bumblebee like model containing a Chern-Simons term., Comment: Small modifications in the text and new references added, 12 pages, 4 figures, revtex4.
