In this work, we report the independent discovery and analysis of nine new compact triply eclipsing triple star systems found with the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) mission: TICs 47151245, 81525800, 99013269, 229785001, 276162169, 280883908, 294803663, 332521671, and 356324779. Each of these nine systems exhibits distinct third-body eclipses where the third (‘tertiary’) star occults the inner eclipsing binary (EB), or vice versa. We utilize a photodynamical analysis of the TESS photometry, archival photometric data, TESS eclipse timing variations of the EBs, available archival spectral energy distribution (SED) curves, and, in some cases, newly acquired radial velocity observations, to solve for the parameters of all three stars, as well as most of the orbital elements. From these analyses we find that the outer orbits of all nine systems are viewed nearly edge on (i.e. within ≲4°), and six of the systems are coplanar to within 5°; the others have mutual inclination angles of 20°, 41°, and possibly 179° (i.e. a retrograde outer orbit). The outer orbital periods range from 47.8 to 604 d, with eccentricities spanning 0.004–0.61. The masses of all 18 EB stars are in the range of 0.9–2.6 M⊙ and are mostly situated near the main sequence. By contrast, the masses and radii of the tertiary stars range from 1.4 to 2.8 M⊙ and 1.5 to 13 R⊙, respectively. We make use of the system parameters from these nine systems, plus those from a comparable number of compact triply eclipsing triples published previously, to gain some statistical insight into their properties.

In this work we report the discovery and analysis of six new compact triply eclipsing triple star systems found with the TESS mission: TICs 37743815, 42565581, 54060695, 178010808, 242132789, and 456194776. All of these exhibit distinct third body eclipses where the inner eclipsing binary (EB) occults the third (`tertiary') star, or vice versa. We utilized the TESS photometry, archival photometric data, and available archival spectral energy distribution curves (SED) to solve for the properties of all three stars, as well as many of the orbital elements. We describe in detail our SED fits, search of the archival data for the outer orbital period, and the final global photodynamical analyses. From these analyses we find that all six systems are coplanar to within $0^\circ$ - $5^\circ$, and are viewed nearly edge on (i.e., within a couple of degrees). The outer orbital periods and eccentricities of the six systems are {$P_{\rm out}$ (days), $e$}: {68.7, 0.36}, {123, 0.16}, {60.7, 0.01}, {69.0, 0.29}, {41.5, 0.01}, {93.9, 0.29}, respectively, in the order the sources are listed above. The masses of all 12 EB stars were in the range of 0.7-1.8 M$_\odot$ and were situated near the main sequence. By contrast, the masses and radii of the tertiary stars ranged from 1.5-2.3 M$_\odot$ and 2.9-12 R$_\odot$, respectively. Low Plasticity Burnishing (LPB) has been applied to produce a layer of deep high magnitude compressive residual stress in the leading edge of Ti -6Al-4V first stage fan blades. The goal was to improve damage tolerance from 0.13 to 0.5 mm (0.005 to 0.02 in.). LPB processing of the airfoil surface was performed on a conventional four-axis CNC mill. The LPB control system, tooling, and process are described. A zone of through-thickness compression on the order of -690 MPa (-100 ksi) was achieved extending 2.5 mm (0.10 in.) cord-wise from the leading edge and along the lower half of the blade from the platform to mid-span damper. Cantilever fatigue testing was performed at R=0.1 using FOD simulated by a 60 degree "V" notch. The processing provided complete tolerance of FOD up to nominally 1.3 mm (0.05 in.) in depth, an order of magnitude improvement in damage tolerance. The benefits of the deep layer of surface compression were confirmed through fatigue performance modeling.

Neuromuscular activation is a primary determinant of metabolic demand and oxygen transport. The m. retractor and m. epitrochlearis are model systems for studying metabolic control and oxygen transport; however, the organization of muscle fibers and motor nerves in these muscles is unknown. We tested whether the topology of motor innervation was related to the morphology of muscle fibers in m. retractor and m. epitrochlearis of male hamsters ( approximately 100 g). Respective muscles averaged 47 and 12 mm in length 100 and 35 mg in mass. Staining for acetylcholinesterase revealed neuromuscular junctions arranged in clusters throughout m. retractor and as a central band across m. epitrochlearis, suggesting differences in fiber morphology. For both muscles, complete cross-sections contained approximately 1,700 fibers. Fiber cross-sectional areas were distributed nearly normal in m. epitrochlearis (mean = 1,559 +/- 17 microm(2)) and skewed left (P0.05) in m. retractor (mean = 973 +/- 15 microm(2)). Single fiber length (Lf) spanned muscle length (Lm) in m. epitrochlearis, while fibers tapered to terminate within m. retractor (Lf/Lm = 0.43 +/- 0. 02). With myelin staining, a single branch of ulnar nerve projected axons across the midregion of m. epitrochlearis. For m. retractor, the spinal accessory nerve branched to give rise to proximal and distal regions of innervation, with intermingling of axons between nerve branches. Nerve bundle cross-sections stained for acetylcholinesterase indicate that each motor axon projects to an average of 65 muscle fibers in m. epitrochlearis and 100 in m. retractor. Differences in fiber morphology, innervation topology, and neuromuscular organization may contribute to the heterogeneity of metabolic demand and oxygen supply in skeletal muscle.

With the use of increasingly high power CO2 lasers for material processing applications, parabolic copper mirrors are replacing transmitting optics because of their ability to withstand higher power without sustaining damage. Since copper optics are quite expensive, a protective coating of Molybdenum is presently used to increase the life of these delicate copper optics. SI Diamond Technology has found that copper optics coated with Amorphous Diamond Coating (ADC) have a longer lifetime, and perform better than the same optics coated with sputtered Molybdenum.
