1. Correlation between meteorological variables, air quality, and the Coronavirus-19 pandemic events

Abstract: BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: The study explores the complex relationship between meteorological variables, air quality, and Coronavirus-19 pandemic events in Jakarta, emphasizing the global concern over air pollution's detrimental effects on both health and the economy. It emphasizes the correlation between climate change and exacerbating air pollution by changing weather patterns and meteorological conditions, leading to elevated levels of pollution. Additionally, the study underscores the impact of the Coronavirus-19 pandemic on air quality, with lockdowns temporarily reducing emissions but also revealing the complex interplay between climate change, agricultural practices, and air pollution spikes. The ongoing challenges in improving air quality persist despite the government's efforts, highlighting the need for a thorough understanding of the situation to inform effective policy interventions and strategies for reducing emissions.METHODS: The study analyzed key pollutants from five monitoring stations in Jakarta including particulate matter 2.5 from a Swiss air quality technology company. Meteorological data (temperature, rainfall, wind speed, humidity, and sunshine hours) were sourced from the Indonesian Agency for Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics for the period 2018-2021. The restriction measures and case data pertaining to the Coronavirus disease-19 were acquired from Health Office in Jakarta. Data analysis utilized Microsoft excel and statistical package for the social sciences software, with spearman correlation tests due to non-normal distribution. This empirical approach investigated the associations among air pollutants, meteorological factors, and occurrences of Coronavirus disease-19 in Jakarta, Indonesia.FINDINGS: Positive linear elationships were identified between the concentrations of particulate matter 10, particulate matter 2.5, carbon monoxide, and nitrogen dioxide. Conversely, a negative linear correlation was observed between carbon monoxide and ozone levels. Nonlinear correlations also existed between various pollutants. During the pandemic, carbon monoxide, nitrogen monoxide and sulphur dioxide concentrations increased, whereas particulate matter 2.5 and ozone levels decreased. Air quality parameters were generally higher in the dry season. Throughout the pandemic, the temperature and wind speed exhibited a consistent pattern, remaining stable. However, it is noteworthy that the levels of humidity and intensity of rainfall experienced a noticeable increase during this period. Particulate matter exhibited a negative correlation with both humidity and rainfall, whereas temperature displayed positive correlations. Despite improved air quality during the pandemic, the link between air pollutants, meteorological factors, and Coronavirus disease-19 transmission was unclear, with only weak correlations between air quality parameters and Coronavirus-19 related deaths. Moderate correlations were observed between specific levels of pollutants prior to and amidst the pandemic.CONCLUSION: Based on the findings, there was a weak correlation between confirmed deaths because of Coronavirus-19 and all air quality parameters. Nevertheless, the study showcased a more distinct association between confirmed cases of Coronavirus-19 and particular pollutants. Coronavirus-19 This study identified several key meteorological variables, including wind speed, direction, temperature, humidity, and rainfall, as significant drivers of particulate matter and sulphur dioxide concentrations. It is essential to comprehend the intricate connections among meteorological factors, air quality indicators, and occurrences of Coronavirus disease-19 in order to formulate efficient public health measures and environmental regulations aimed at safeguarding communities from the impacts of air pollution and infectious diseases.

Abstract: BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: The current literature on tofu production has predominantly focused on exploring the value-added potential of the waste generated during tofu production and conducting impact assessments related to this production. However, a noticeable gap remains in the research concerning the comprehensive examination of life cycle costs and eco-efficiency in tofu production and its associated waste. This study aims to assess the environmental and economic impacts of the implementation of recycling alternatives using a life cycle assessment and life cycle cost approach. The impact of waste recycling on the eco-efficiency of small and medium-sized enterprises in Sugihmanik Village, Grobogan Regency, Indonesia is also examined.METHODS: To achieve this goal, this study employed life cycle assessment and life cycle cost methodologies to evaluate eco-efficiency. Data were collected through interviews and direct observations. Cradle-to-grave (tofu production) and cradle-to-cradle (tofu production and waste recycling) approaches were compared. Environmental impact was assessed by determining the 12 impact categories. Environmental cost was determined using the eco-cost 2023 method, and environmental and economic impacts were examined with SimaPro software version 9.4.FINDINGS: Life cycle assessment analysis revealed eutrophication, carbon footprint, and freshwater ecotoxicity to be the categories with the most significant impact for each process. In particular, the eco-cost of the cradle-to-grave approach was 7.03 United States dollars, and that of the cradle-to-cradle approach was 7.90 United States dollars. Life cycle cost analysis yielded a net value of 1.33 United States dollars for the cradle-to-grave process and 38.16 United States dollars for the cradle-to-cradle process. According to the life cycle cost analysis, the recycling scheme increased the overall cost of production. Meanwhile, the eco-efficiency analysis demonstrated an increase in the eco-efficiency of tofu production (cradle-to-grave) and the recycling system (cradle-to-cradle). Waste recycling can increase the eco-efficiency index from 0.18 to 5.CONCLUSION: Life cycle assessment identified eutrophication, carbon footprint, and ecotoxicity (freshwater) as the three major impact categories. Proper waste management in tofu production offers environmental benefits and significant profits, with the net value of the cradle-to-cradle process at 38.99 US dollars. The eco-efficiency values showed a substantial positive increase, and the waste processing scenarios were found to be sustainable and economically beneficial. These findings suggest new business opportunities through straightforward waste processing and affordable production costs. The scheme also reduces the environmental impact and increases the efficiency and profit of the overall tofu production system.

Abstract: Ferro-ferri-holmquistite (IMA2022-020), ideal formula □Li2(Fe32+Fe23+)Si8O22(OH)2, was found in albitized granite from the Iwagi islet, Ehime, Japan. Ferro-ferri-holmquistite is a CFe2+Fe3+ analogue of holmquistite and belongs to the lithium-subgroup amphiboles. It commonly occurs as acicular aggregate and/or isolated crystals in quartz, albite and K-feldspar and is blue with a bluish-grey streak and a vitreous luster. It has a Mohs hardness of 5 1/2. Its cleavage is perfect on {210}. Measured and calculated densities are Dmeas.=3.2 g cm−3 and Dcalc.=3.317 g cm−3, respectively. Ferro-ferri-holmquistite is optically biaxial (-), with α=1.685, β=1.713 and γ=1.727, and is pleochroic, with X= pale blue ∼ pale yellowish blue, Y= deep blue ∼ brownish blue and Z= deep blue ∼ deep bluish violet; X>Z>Y. The magnetic susceptibility is similar to the associated biotite. Ferro-ferri-holmquistite is insoluble in HCl, HNO3 and H2SO4. The empirical formula calculated on the basis of Σ(C+T) = 13 on the results obtained by electron microprobe analyzer (EPMA), and laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS) is A(K0.01Na0.06)Σ0.07B(Li1.95Na0.04Ca0.01)Σ2.00C(Fe2.822+Fe1.393+Al0.51Mg0.22Mn0.052+Ti0.01)Σ5.00T(Si7.98Al0.02)Σ8.00O22(OH)1.94F0.06. Structure refinement converged to R1= 4.22 %. The space group is orthorhombic Pnma, and the unit-cell parameters are a= 18.5437(2) Å, b= 17.9222(1) Å, c= 5.3123(1) Å and V= 1765.51(1) Å3. Based on the refined site occupancies, the structural formula can be written as ANa0.062M4(Li1.952Na0.048)Σ2.000M1(Fe1.7702+Mg0.230)Σ2.000M2(Fe1.4463+Fe0.1022+Al0.452)Σ2.000M3(Fe0.8912+Mg0.109)Σ1.000TSi8O22(OH)2 (Z= 4). Three OH-stretching IR bands, centered at 3614, 3631 and 3644 cm−1, are assigned to the local configuration M1M1M3= FeFeFe, MgFeFe (including FeMgFe and FeFeMg) and MgMgFe (including MgFeMg and FeMgMg), respectively, based on the IR studies of the orthorhombic Pnma amphiboles.

Abstract: TAE Technologies’ fifth-generation fusion device, C-2W (also called ‘Norman’), is the world’s largest compact-toroid device and has made significant progress in field-reversed configuration (FRC) plasma performance. C-2W produces record breaking, macroscopically stable, high-temperature advanced beam-driven FRC plasmas, dominated by injected fast particles and sustained in steady state, which is primarily limited by neutral-beam (NB) pulse duration. The NB power supply system has recently been upgraded to extend the pulse length from 30 ms to 40 ms, which allows for a longer plasma lifetime and thus better characterization and further enhancement of FRC performance. An active plasma control system is routinely used in C-2W to produce consistent FRC performance as well as for reliable machine operations using magnet coils, edge-biasing electrodes, gas injection and tunable-energy NBs. Google’s machine learning framework for experimental optimization has also been routinely used to enhance plasma performance. Dedicated plasma optimization experimental campaigns, particularly focused on the external magnetic field profile and NB injection (NBI) optimizations, have produced a superior FRC plasma performance; for instance, achieving a total plasma energy of ∼13 kJ, a trapped poloidal magnetic flux of ∼16 mWb (based on the rigid-rotor model) and plasma sustainment in steady state up to ∼40 ms. Furthermore, under some operating conditions, the electron temperature of FRC plasmas at a quiescent phase has successfully reached up to ∼1 keV at the peak inside the FRC separatrix for the first time. The overall FRC performance is well correlated with the NB and edge-biasing systems, where higher total plasma energy is obtained with higher NBI power and applied voltage on biasing electrodes. C-2W operations have now reached a mature level where the machine can produce hot, stable, long-lived, and repeatable plasmas in a well-controlled manner.

Abstract: This study successfully developed a refueling technique for a field-reversed configuration (FRC) via axial plasmoid injection and demonstrated it on the FAT-CM device at Nihon University. The target FRC is generated using the collisional-merging formation technique combined with conical theta-pinch formation. Plasmoids with an FRC-like configuration are coaxially injected from both ends of the FAT-CM device toward the preexisting target FRC. Postinjection, the system achieves equilibrium, resulting in increases by factors of 1.8 and 2.4 in the total inventory and plasma energy, respectively, compared to cases without injection. This method effectively accomplishes FRC refueling while preserving the intrinsic characteristics of a simply connected, axisymmetric configuration and a high beta value approaching unity. Therefore, this approach offers potential for repetitive refueling in the reactor stage having a FRC plasma core. Experimental outcomes are compared with magnetohydrodynamic simulation results. In the collisional merging process, the characteristics of the pre-collision plasmoids, such as the strong toroidal rotation and coherent FRC-like magnetic field structures of the FRC, are not preserved. Experimental environments have been constructed to investigate such unique properties of the resulting FRCs.

7. Lipopolysaccharide structure modulates cationic biocide susceptibility and crystalline biofilm formation in Proteus mirabilis

Abstract: Chlorhexidine (CHD) is a cationic biocide used ubiquitously in healthcare settings. Proteus mirabilis, an important pathogen of the catheterized urinary tract, and isolates of this species are often described as “resistant” to CHD-containing products used for catheter infection control. To identify the mechanisms underlying reduced CHD susceptibility in P. mirabilis, we subjected the CHD tolerant clinical isolate RS47 to random transposon mutagenesis and screened for mutants with reduced CHD minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs). One mutant recovered from these screens (designated RS47-2) exhibited ~ 8-fold reduction in CHD MIC. Complete genome sequencing of RS47-2 showed a single mini-Tn5 insert in the waaC gene involved in lipopolysaccharide (LPS) inner core biosynthesis. Phenotypic screening of RS47-2 revealed a significant increase in cell surface hydrophobicity and serum susceptibility compared to the wildtype, and confirmed defects in LPS production congruent with waaC inactivation. Disruption of waaC was also associated with increased susceptibility to a range of other cationic biocides but did not affect susceptibility to antibiotics tested. Complementation studies showed that repression of smvA efflux activity in RS47-2 further increased susceptibility to CHD and other cationic biocides, reducing CHD MICs to values comparable with the most CHD susceptible isolates characterized. The formation of crystalline biofilms and blockage of urethral catheters was also significantly attenuated in RS47-2. Taken together, these data show that aspects of LPS structure and upregulation of the smvA efflux system function in synergy to modulate susceptibility to CHD and other cationic biocides, and that LPS structure is also an important factor in P. mirabilis crystalline biofilm formation.

Abstract: As part of their excretion care protocol, many of the senior citizens living in nursing homes are required to wear a diaper for urinary incontinence. However, the diaper must be changed by the caregiver after each incontinence episode, and some of the elderly affected may be unable to inform the caregiver about an episode because of cognitive problems or owing to a sense a shame. Being able to predict the volume of urine in the bladder without having to attach any sensors to the body would make it possible for the caregiver to take the residents to the toilet before they have an incontinence episode. Moreover, the residents would not have to wear a diaper. With this goal in mind, in this study, we developed a macroscopic model for urine accumulation in the bladder as well as a method for predicting the urine volume in the bladder based on the absorption spectrum of urine obtained immediately after urination. The proposed method does not involve attaching a sensor on the skin. We performed a series of experiments to evaluate the proposed method and calculated its error rate based on the actual amount of urine and that predicted using the method. The error rate was then compared with that for an ultrasonic sensor attached to the skin above the bladder. The mean of the error rate of the proposed method was 15.46% whereas that of the ultrasonic sensor was 23.42 %, with the two being significantly different at the 5% level.

9. Aluminosugilite, KNa2Al2Li3Si12O30, an Al analogue of sugilite, from the Cerchiara mine, Liguria, Italy

Abstract: Aluminosugilite (IMA2018-142), ideal formula KNa2Al2Li3Si12O30, is a new mineral that was found in the interstices in manganiferous metacherts from the Cerchiara mine, Liguria, Italy. Aluminosugilite is an Al analogue of sugilite belonging to the milarite group. It occurs as aggregates of small prismatic and/or granular crystals up to 1 mm in length, and it is pinkish-purple with a pale purple to white streak and a vitreous lustre. It has a Mohs hardness of 6–6.5. Its cleavage is indistinct, poor on (0001). Measured and calculated densities are Dmeas.=2.71–2.72 g cm−3 and Dcalc.=2.73 g cm−3, respectively. Aluminosugilite is optically uniaxial (–), with ω=1.577–1.586 and ε=1.575–1.585, with a weak pleochroism. The magnetic susceptibility is lower than that for sugilite. Aluminosugilite is insoluble in HCl, HNO3 and H2SO4, like sugilite. The empirical formula of aluminosugilite calculated on the basis of O =30 from the result obtained by electron microprobe analysis and laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy is K0.99Na1.99(Al1.38Mn0.313+Fe0.243+Ti0.05Mg0.01)Σ1.99Li3.06Si11.99O30. Structure refinement converged to R1=2.17 %. Its space group is hexagonal P6∕mcc, with unit-cell parameters a=9.9830(4) Å, c=13.9667(5) Å and V=1205.45(7) Å3. Based on the refined site occupancies, the ideal structural formula of aluminosugilite is CKBNa2AAl2T2Li3T1Si12O30. The variation of the A–O3 distance is governed by the cationic substitution at the A site. The a and c dimensions of aluminosugilite are shorter than those of sugilite due to Al substitution for Fe3+ at the A site.

Abstract: The Borromean halo nucleus 6He has been studied by a kinematically complete measurement of Coulomb and nuclear breakup into α + 2n on Pb and C targets at 70 MeV/nucleon. Fully quantum-mechanical four-body breakup calculations reproduce the energy and angular differential cross sections below Erel∼1 MeV for both targets. The model used here reproduces the 6He ground-state properties as well as α-n and n-n scattering data and predicts an average opening angle 〈θnn〉 of 68∘ between the two halo neutrons. However, the model underestimates the breakup cross sections for higher Erel, indicating a possible contribution from the inelastic breakup. Alternatively, we examine the empirically modified calculations that reproduce the energy-differential cross sections for a wide range of scattering angles for both targets. The extracted B(E1) peaks at Erel∼1.4 MeV and amounts to 1.6(2) e2fm2 for Erel ≤ 20 MeV, resulting 〈θnn〉 = 56−10+9 degrees. In either interpretation, the current results show evidence of the dineutron spatial correlation in 6He.

Abstract: Background Biologics are commonly used for the treatment of Crohn’s disase (CD); however, the proportion of biologics used and their initiation time from diagnosis differs widely between different regions. There is limited information about the patient characteristics and the treatment persistence of each initial biologics, and the treatment persistence of top-down and step-up therapy. iCREST-CD is a prospective, non-interventional, longitudinal, observational registry study conducted at 19 tertiary centres to understand the characteristics of CD treatments in actual clinical settings in Japan. We conducted an interim analysis (cutoff date: 30 June 2022) of iCREST-CD to mainly evaluate the indication and outcomes of initial biologic therapy. Methods Patients newly diagnosed with CD after June 2016 based on the diagnostic criteria of the Japanese Guidelines, aged ≥16 years at the time of informed consent with no prior exposure to biologics were enrolled. Patient demographics, clinical data, disease activity and medical treatment were recorded. Biologic use without prior steroid use was defined as top-down and biologic use with prior steroid use was defined as step-up. Results A total of 672 eligible patients (68.2% male) with mean age (±SD) of 29.4 (13.1) years were analysed. Cumulative proportion of patients prescribed 5-aminosalicylic acid, steroids, immunomodulators, and biologics at 6- and 12-months from diagnosis were 71.3%, 40.6%, 31.4%, and 47.5%; and 75.0%, 43.6%, 36.0%, and 59.7%, respectively (Figure 1). A total of 498 patients received biological therapy—infliximab (IFX; 121 [24.3%]), adalimumab (ADA; 244 [49.0%]), ustekinumab (UST; 107 [21.5%]), and vedolizumab (VDZ; 26 [5.2%]). The mean age (±SD) at the initiation of biologic treatment was IFX: 28.2 (11.3), ADA: 26.6 (10.8), UST: 30.4 (14.1), and VDZ: 36.2 (17.4), and the mean (±SD) levels of C-reactive protein (CRP) (mg/L) was IFX: 25.9 (26.8), ADA: 18.9 (26.0), UST: 13.5 (17.9), and VDZ: 9.5 (19.0) (Table.1). The initial biologic treatment persistence rates of IFX, ADA, UST and VDZ at 36-months were 77.5%, 75.8%, 79.8%, and 49.0%, respectively (Figure 2). Patients receiving top-down and step-up therapy were 284 (57.0%) and 214 (43.0%), respectively. The treatment persistence rate of initial biologics by top-down and step-up therapy at 36-months from diagnosis was 81.6% and 66.9%, respectively (P=0.001) (Figure 3). Conclusion This registry study that demonstrated the treatment persistence rate of initial biologic therapy was significantly higher in the top-down than the step-up approach.

Abstract: Surface material on airless bodies exposed to the interplanetary space experienced the bombardment by low-energy (~1 keV/nucleon) solar wind particles and micrometeoroid impacts. These processes, alongside the resultant surface modifications, and spectral darkening and reddening are called space weathering [1]. Space weathering of the Moon and the asteroid 25143 Itokawa belonging to S-type asteroids have been investigated intensively [e.g. 1-5]. The Hayabusa 2 spacecraft returned samples from the asteroid 162173 Ryugu C-type asteroid. The Ryugu samples give us the first opportunity to investigate space weathering of C-type asteroids. The Mineralogy-Petrology Fine (M-P F or Sand) sub-team mainly investigates small grains (typically ~100 μm across). The main purposes of the M-P F sub-team are to understand the variationof mineralogy of the allocated grains and the nature of space weathering of the asteroid Ryugu. Abstract: In 2015, the Gamma-Ray Observation of Winter Thunderstorms (GROWTH) collaboration launched a mapping observation campaign for high-energy atmospheric phenomena related to thunderstorms and lightning discharges. This campaign has developed a detection network of gamma rays with up to 10 radiation monitors installed in the cities of Kanazawa and Komatsu, Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan, where low-charge-center winter thunderstorms frequently occur. During four winter seasons from October 2016 to April 2020, a total of 70 gamma-ray glows, i.e., minute-lasting bursts of gamma rays originating from thunderclouds, were detected. Their average duration is 58.9 s. Among the detected events, 77% were observed at night. The gamma-ray glows can be classified into temporally symmetric, temporally asymmetric, and lightning-terminated types based on their count-rate histories. An averaged energy spectrum of the gamma-ray glows is well fitted with a power-law function with an exponential cutoff, whose photon index, cutoff energy, and flux are 0.613±0.009 MeV, 4.68±0.04 MeV, and (1.013±0.003)×10^{−5} erg cm^{−2}s^{−1} (0.2–20.0 MeV), respectively. The present paper provides a catalog of gamma-ray glows and their statistical analysis detected during winter thunderstorms in the Kanazawa and Komatsu areas.

22. P690 Prolonged benefit of filgotinib in patients with Ulcerative Colitis in SELECTION

Abstract: Background Filgotinib (FIL) is a once-daily, oral, Janus kinase 1 preferential inhibitor approved for the treatment of patients with ulcerative colitis (UC) in the UK, EU and Japan. In the phase 2b/3 SELECTION trial (NCT02914522),1 FIL 200 mg (FIL200) was well tolerated and effective in inducing and maintaining clinical remission vs placebo (PBO) in patients with UC. This post hoc analysis of SELECTION data further evaluated the prolonged benefit of FIL treatment from week 10 (W10) until W58. Methods In SELECTION, adults with moderately to severely active UC were randomized 2:2:1 to receive FIL200, FIL 100 mg (FIL100) or PBO once daily for 11 weeks in Induction (IND) Studies A and B (biologic-naïve and -experienced patients, respectively). Patients in clinical remission or with a Mayo Clinic Score (MCS) response at W10 (responders) were rerandomized 2:1 to continue their IND FIL dose in the 47-week Maintenance (MNT) Study. This post hoc analysis evaluated the hazard ratio (HR) for protocol-specified disease worsening (PSDW) in patients who continued FIL200 during MNT (FIL200→FIL200) vs those rerandomized from FIL200 to PBO (FIL200→PBO). The proportion of patients with a prolonged benefit at W58 was also evaluated across all FIL200 and FIL100 MNT arms. A prolonged benefit was defined as clinical remission or an MCS response at W58, among W10 responders. Among patients with prolonged benefit at W58, the proportion of those who had Inflammatory Bowel Disease Questionnaire (IBDQ)-remission at W58 was also assessed across all FIL200 and FIL100 MNT arms. Results Baseline characteristics were similar between MNT arms, although biologic-experienced status was more common in patients who did not have a prolonged benefit vs those who did. FIL200→FIL200 treatment (n=199) reduced the risk of PSDW by 74% vs FIL200→PBO (n=98) (HR [95% CI]: 0.26 [0.17–0.40]; p Conclusion After a year of FIL200 treatment, two-thirds of patients who were in clinical remission or had an MCS response at W10, and ~80% who were in clinical remission at W10, had a prolonged benefit. 1. Abstract: Micro-magnetic nondestructive evaluation and testing techniques are particularly efficient for the evaluation of plastic strain in steel components. A new method derived from the magnetic incremental permeability experimental setup and called Eddy Current Magnetic Signature (EC-MS) seems to be the particularly adapted for such evaluation. Numerical simulation of EC-MS has never been done before. In this article, the EC-MS method is described first, then a lump scalar phenomenological model based on a modified Jiles-Atherton model and extended to dynamic behavior is proposed for its simulation. All the simulation details are exposed and justified with physical observations.

Abstract: In this study, we prepared GdZn2 by mechanical alloying method and measured its magnetization to reveal the magnetic and magnetocaloric properties. For a milling time (MT) ≥ 10 and 20 h, the GdZn2 phase was confirmed by X-ray diffraction measurements. For MT = 40 and 60 h, amorphous like patterns are observed. For MT = 10 and 20 h, magnetization (M) as a function of temperature below 80 K showed ferromagnetic-like increase. The observed values of M are 4.5 μB at 5 K for MT = 10 and 20 h, which is smaller than that of the theoretical expected value of 7 μB. For MT = 40 and 60 h, the long-range ferromagnetic order collapses because there is no spontaneous magnetization. The value of ΔT, where ΔT is the full width at half maximum of the magnetic entropy change (ΔSm (T)), increases significantly for MT ≤ 20 h because of the gradual release of magnetic entropy by the milling effect. Since M decreases with increasing MT, the maximum values of |ΔSm|, the relative cooling power, and the refrigerant capacity also decreases.

Main funding source(s): Boston Scientific Japan Background Transcatheter left atrial appendage closure (LAAC) provides an alternative to oral anticoagulation for thromboembolic risk reduction in patients with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation (AF). A meta-analysis of previous two randomized trials reported improved rates of hemorrhagic stroke, cardiovascular/unexplained death, and nonprocedural bleeding compared to warfarin (1). Recently, the next-generation LAAC device, the Watchman FLX system, became available, and showed a low incidence of adverse events and a high incidence of anatomic closure (2). This transcatheter stroke prevention has already been approved in Asian countries. However, there is little data of LAAC in Asian population. Purpose This study sought to assess efficacy and safety of LAAC for patients with nonvalvular AF in Asia. Methods The TERMINATOR (Transcatheter Modification of Left Atrial Appendage by Obliteration with Device) registry is a multicenter nonrandomized study in Japan. This enrolled patients who underwent LAAC in 23 Japanese institutions. The LAAC was indicated for patients with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation in whom oral anticoagulation is required, but who have a risk of bleeding (history of BARC type 3 bleeding or HAS-BLED score ≥3 points). Baseline patient and procedural characteristics and clinical outcomes were evaluated. Results A total of 729 patients were enrolled between September 2019 and November 2021. The mean age was 74.9±8.8 years and the mean CHA2DS2-VASc score was 4.7±1.5. The Watchman generation 2.5 and FLX system were used in 469 (64.3%) and 260 patients (35.7%), respectively. Procedural success was achieved in 722 patients (99.0%). In-hospital adverse events were as follows; 6 tamponades (0.8%), 3 pericardial effusion (0.4%), 2 device embolization (0.3%), no stroke (0%), and no death (0%). During follow-up, device-related thrombus and all-cause death were reported in 16 (2.2%) and 23 patients (3.2%), respectively. Conclusions LAAC with the Watchman system provides compatible efficacy and safety outcomes in Asian population.

27. Magnetic field effects on the specific heat of a diluted Pr system Y1-xPrxIr2Zn20

Abstract: The specific heat of Y1-xPrxIr2Zn20 with x = 0.044 has been measured down to 0.08 K in magnetic fields of B ≤ 12 T. The 4f contribution to the specific heat divided by temperature C4f/T diverges as −lnT in B = 0 and 2 T applied along the [100] direction. In B = 4 T, however, C4f(T) exhibits a broad maximum, which shifts to higher temperatures with increasing B. This behavior can be explained by the Zeeman effect which splits the ground state doublet through the first excited triplet. The 4f contribution to the entropy, S4f(T), in B ≥ 4 T is well reproduced by the crystalline electric field calculation, whereas the calculation fails to reproduce the S4f(T) data in B ≤ 2 T. We propose that the on-site interaction of the active quadrupole in the ground state doublet with two-channel conduction bands gives rise to the –lnT variation of C4f/T.

Abstract: Electrical resistance R and specific heat C were measured to study the physical properties of the novel compound Nd5CuSn3 which crystallizes in the hexagonal Hf5CuSn3-type structure. Nd ions occupy two non-equivalent sites. The values of R and C showed distinct anomalies at the magnetic transition temperature TM of 56.3 K. The increments of TM in the magnetic fields are consistent with the material being in a ferro- or ferri-magnetic state at temperatures below TM.

Abstract: Samples of the carbonaceous asteroid Ryugu were brought to Earth by the Hayabusa2 spacecraft. We analyzed 17 Ryugu samples measuring 1 to 8 millimeters. Carbon dioxide–bearing water inclusions are present within a pyrrhotite crystal, indicating that Ryugu’s parent asteroid formed in the outer Solar System. The samples contain low abundances of materials that formed at high temperatures, such as chondrules and calcium- and aluminum-rich inclusions. Abstract: To differentiate between infectious and non-infectious diseases occurring in immunocompromised patients without acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) using high-resolution computed tomography (HRCT).HRCT images of 555 patients with chest complications were reviewed retrospectively. Infectious diseases (n=341) included bacterial pneumonia (n=123), fungal infection (n=80), septic emboli (n=11), tuberculosis (n=15), pneumocystis pneumonia (n=101), and cytomegalovirus pneumonia (n=11), while non-infectious diseases (n=214) included drug toxicity (n=84), infiltration of underlying diseases (n=83), idiopathic pneumonia syndrome (n=34), diffuse alveolar haemorrhage (n=8), and pulmonary oedema (n=5). Lung parenchymal abnormalities were compared between the two groups using the χThe χ2 test results showed significant differences in many HRCT findings between the two groups. Multiple logistic regression analysis results indicated the presence of nodules with a halo and the absence of interlobular septal (ILS) thickening were the significant indicators that could differentiate infectious from non-infectious diseases. ILS thickening was generally less frequent among most infectious diseases and more frequent among most non-infectious diseases, with a good odds ratio (7.887, p0.001). The sensitivity and accuracy for infectious diseases in the absence of ILS thickening were better (70% and 73%, respectively) than those of nodules with a halo (19% and 48%, respectively), while the specificity in the nodules with a halo was better (93%) than that of ILS thickening (78%).The presence of nodules with a halo or the absence of ILS thickening tends to suggest infectious disease. Specifically, ILS thickening seems to be a more reliable indicator.

Abstract: Contains fulltext : 249977.pdf (Publisher’s version ) (Closed access) BACKGROUND: It is important to evaluate whether a new treatment for heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) provides additive benefit to background foundational treatments. As such, we aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of empagliflozin in patients with HFrEF in addition to baseline treatment with specific doses and combinations of disease-modifying therapies. METHODS: We performed a post-hoc analysis of the EMPEROR-Reduced randomised, double-blind, parallel-group trial, which took place in 520 centres (hospitals and medical clinics) in 20 countries in Asia, Australia, Europe, North America, and South America. Patients with New York Heart Association (NYHA) classification II-IV with an ejection fraction of 40% or less were randomly assigned (1:1) to receive the addition of either oral empagliflozin 10 mg per day or placebo to background therapy. The primary composite outcome was cardiovascular death and heart failure hospitalisation; the secondary outcome was total heart failure hospital admissions. An extended composite outcome consisted of inpatient and outpatient HFrEF events was also evaluated. Outcomes were analysed according to background use of angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors, angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARBs) or angiotensin receptor neprilysin inhibitors (ARNIs), as well as β blockers and mineralocorticoid receptor antagonists (MRAs) at less than 50% or 50% or more of target doses and in various combinations. This study is registered with ClinicalTrials.gov, NCT03057977. FINDINGS: In this post-hoc analysis of 3730 patients (mean age 66·8 years [SD 11·0], 893 [23·9%] women; 1863 [49·9%] in the empagliflozin group, 1867 [50·1%] in the placebo group) assessed between March 6, 2017, and May 28, 2020, empagliflozin reduced the risk of the primary outcome (361 in 1863 participants in the empagliflozin group and 462 of 1867 in the placebo group; HR 0·75 [95% CI 0·65-0·86]) regardless of background therapy or its target doses for ACE inhibitors or ARBs at doses of less than 50% of the target dose (HR 0·85 [0·69-1·06]) and for doses of 50% or more of the target dose (HR 0·67 [0·52-0·88]; p(interaction)=0·18). A similar result was seen for β blockers at doses of less than 50% of the target dose (HR 0·66 [0·54-0·80]) and for doses of 50% or more of the target dose (HR 0·81 [0·66-1·00]; p(interaction)=0·15). Empagliflozin also reduced the risk of the primary outcome irrespective of background use of triple therapy with an ACE inhibitor, ARB, or ARNI plus β blocker plus MRA (given combination HR 0·73 [0·61-0·88]; not given combination HR 0·76 [0·62-0·94]; p(interaction)=0·77). Similar patterns of benefit were observed for the secondary and extended composite outcomes. Empagliflozin was well tolerated and rates of hypotension, symptomatic hypotension, and hyperkalaemia were similar across all subgroups. INTERPRETATION: Empagliflozin reduced serious heart failure outcomes across doses and combinations of disease-modifying therapies for HFrEF. Clinically, these data suggest that empagliflozin might be considered as a foundational therapy in patients with HFrEF regardless of their existing background therapy. Abstract: Fast ignition (FI) is a promising approach for high-energy-gain inertial confinement fusion in the laboratory. To achieve ignition, the energy of a short-pulse laser is required to be delivered efficiently to the pre-compressed fuel core via a high-energy electron beam. Therefore, understanding the transport and energy deposition of this electron beam inside the pre-compressed core is the key for FI. Here we report on the direct observation of the electron beam transport and deposition in a compressed core through the stimulated Cu Kα emission in the super-penetration scheme. Simulations reproducing the experimental measurements indicate that, at the time of peak compression, about 1% of the short-pulse energy is coupled to a relatively low-density core with a radius of 70 μm. Analysis with the support of 2D particle-in-cell simulations uncovers the key factors improving this coupling efficiency. Our findings are of critical importance for optimizing FI experiments in a super-penetration scheme., Fast ignition is an interesting scheme for nuclear fusion reaction. Here the authors show electron generation using intense short laser pulses and energy transport by coupling the laser energy to the imploded plasma core as in the ICF conditions.

50. Analysis of Dark Data of the PICNIC IR Arrays in the CIBER

Abstract: We have measured and analyzed the dark data of two PICNIC IR arrays (P574 and P560) obtained through the Cosmic Infrared Background ExpeRiment (CIBER). First, we identified three types of bad pixels: the cold, the hot, and the transient, which are figured in total as 0.06% for P574 and 0.19% for P560. Then, after the bad pixels were masked, we determined the dark noise to be 20.5 ± 0.05 e- and 16.1 ± 0.05 e-, and the dark current to be 0.6 ± 0.05 e-/sec and 0.7 ± 0.05 e-/sec for P574 and P560, respectively. Finally, we discussed glitches and readout modes for a future mission.
