It is shown that a normalized complex Hadamard matrix of order $6$ having three distinct columns, each containing at least one $-1$ entry necessarily belongs to the transposed Fourier family, or to the family of $2$-circulant complex Hadamard matrices. The proofs rely on solving polynomial system of equations by Gr\"obner basis techniques, and make use of a structure theorem concerning regular Hadamard matrices. As a consequence, members of these two families can be easily recognized in practice. The kissing number $\tau(d)$ is the maximum number of pairwise non-overlapping unit spheres each touching a central unit sphere in the $d$-dimensional Euclidean space. In this note we report on how we discovered a new, previously unknown arrangement of $40$ unit spheres in dimension $5$. Line systems passing through the origin of the $d$ dimensional Euclidean space admitting exactly two distinct angles are called biangular. It is shown that the maximum cardinality of biangular lines is at least $2(d-1)(d-2)$, and this result is sharp for $d\in\{4,5,6\}$. In this paper we present a combined approach of isomorph-free exhaustive generation of graphs and Gr\"obner basis computation to classify the largest $3$-distance sets in $\mathbb{R}^4$, the largest $4$-distance sets in $\mathbb{R}^3$, and the largest $6$-distance sets in $\mathbb{R}^2$. In this paper Seidel matrices are studied, and their spectrum and several related algebraic properties are determined for order $n\leq 13$. Based on this Seidel matrices with exactly three distinct eigenvalues of order $n\leq 23$ are classified. In this paper we describe some new algebraic features of the Gram matrices of complex Equiangular Tight Frames (ETF). This lead on the one hand to the nonexistence of several low dimensional complex ETFs; and on the other hand to the full algebraic classification of all complex ETFs in C^3. In this paper we introduce modular symmetric designs and use them to study the existence of Hadamard matrices modulo 5. We prove that there exist 5-modular Hadamard matrices of order n if and only if n != 3, 7 (mod 10) or n != 6, 11. One of the main goals of design theory is to classify, characterize and count various combinatorial objects with some prescribed properties. In most cases, however, one quickly encounters a combinatorial explosion and even if the complete enumeration of the objects is possible, there is no apparent way how to study them in details, store them efficiently, or generate a particular one rapidly. In this paper we propose a novel method to deal with these difficulties, and illustrate it by presenting the classification of quaternary complex Hadamard matrices up to order 8. A complete classification of quaternary complex Hadamard matrices of orders 10, 12 and 14 is given, and a new parametrization scheme for obtaining new examples of affine parametric families of complex Hadamard matrices is provided. The intended purpose of this work is to provide the reader with a comprehensive, state-of-the art presentation of the theory of complex Hadamard matrices, or at least report on the very recent advances. In this paper we give a new construction of parametric families of complex Hadamard matrices of square orders, and connect them to equiangular tight frames. The results presented here generalize some of the recent ideas of Bodmann et al. and extend the list of known equiangular tight frames. In this paper we construct a new, previously unknown four-parameter family of complex Hadamard matrices of order 6, the entries of which are described by algebraic functions of roots of various sextic polynomials. We conjecture that the new, generic family G together with Karlsson's degenerate family K and Tao's spectral matrix S form an exhaustive list of complex Hadamard matrices of order 6. In this paper we use a design theoretical approach to construct new, previously unknown complex Hadamard matrices. Our methods generalize and extend the earlier results of de la Harpe--Jones and Munemasa--Watatani and offer a theoretical explanation for the existence of some sporadic examples of complex Hadamard matrices in the existing literature. As it is increasingly difficult to distinguish inequivalent matrices from each other, we propose a new invariant, the fingerprint of complex Hadamard matrices. As a side result, we refute a conjecture of Koukouvinos et al. on (n-8)x(n-8) minors of real Hadamard matrices., Comment: 10 pages. Constructions of Hadamard matrices from smaller blocks is a well-known technique in the theory of real Hadamard matrices: tensoring Hadamard matrices and the classical arrays of Williamson, Ito are all procedures involving smaller order building blocks. We apply a new block-construction for order 6 to obtain a previously unknown 2-dimensional family of complex Hadamard matrices. Our results extend the families D_6(t) and B_6(t) found by various authors recently. Strongly quadrangular matrices have been introduced in the study of the combinatorial properties of unitary matrices. It is known that if a (0, 1)-matrix supports a unitary then it is strongly quadrangular. However, the converse is not necessarily true. In this paper, we fully classify strongly quadrangular matrices up to degree 5. We prove that the smallest strongly quadrangular matrices which do not support unitaries have exactly degree 5. Complex Hadamard matrices have received considerable attention in the past few years due to their appearance in quantum information theory. While a complete characterization is currently available only up to order 5 (in \cite{haagerup}), several new constructions of higher order matrices have appeared recently \cite{dita, karol, BN, MM, sz}. In particular, the classification of {\it self-adjoint} complex Hadamard matrices of order 6 was completed by Beuachamp and Nicoara in \cite{BN}, providing a previously unknown non-affine one-parameter orbit. In this paper we classify all \emph{dephased, symmetric} complex Hadamard matrices \emph{with real diagonal} of order 6. Furthermore, relaxing the condition on the diagonal entries we obtain a new non-affine one-parameter orbit connecting the Fourier matrix $F_6$ and Di\c{t}\u{a}'s matrix $D_6$. The purpose of this paper is to introduce new parametric families of complex Hadamard matrices in two different ways. First, we prove that every real Hadamard matrix of order N>=4 admits an affine orbit. This settles a recent open problem of Tadej and Zyczkowski, who asked whether a real Hadamard matrix can be isolated among complex ones. In particular, we apply our construction to the only (up to equivalence) real Hadamard matrix of order 12 and show that the arising affine family is different from all previously known examples. Second, we recall a well-known construction related to real conference matrices, and show how to introduce an affine parameter in the arising complex Hadamard matrices. This leads to new parametric families of orders 10 and 14. An interesting feature of both of our constructions is that the arising families cannot be obtained via Dita's general method. Applications in quantum information theory and quantum tomography have raised current interest in complex Hadamard matrices. In this note we investigate the connection between tiling Abelian groups and constructions of complex Hadamard matrices. First, we recover a recent very general construction of complex Hadamard matrices due to Dita via a natural tiling construction. Then we find some necessary conditions for any given complex Hadamard matrix to be equivalent to a Dita-type matrix. Finally, using another tiling construction, due to Szabo, we arrive at new parametric families of complex Hadamard matrices of order 8, 12 and 16, and we use our necessary conditions to prove that these families do not arise with Dita's construction.
