No systematic review has been conducted or centralized repository created for published research on wild mammals in Indiana, despite studies dating back two centuries. I conducted a systematic review in Web of Science[TM], which produced 714 research articles on wild Indiana mammals published in 156 outlets by 1131 authors since 1906. Thirty-one authors published [greater than or equal to] 10 articles, and 29 papers were cited [greater than or equal to] 100 times. The most frequently used outlet was Proceedings of the Indiana Academy of Science (n = 155). Most studies dealt with ecology or natural history (38.2%) and management (22.0%). Indiana myotis (Myotis sodalis) was the most frequent target of study, and bats ranked as 6 of the top 10 most-studied species. Cold spots, i.e., understudied species X discipline combinations that might merit increased future attention, were assessed using quantile analysis of chi-square residuals and normalized metrics of research effort. Understudied state species of current conservation concern included star-nosed mole (Condylura cristata), badger (Taxidea taxus), swamp rabbit (Sylvilagus aquaticus), Franklin's ground squirrel (Policocitellus franklinii), and least weasel (Mustela nivalis), with population declines suspected in the latter. Understudied nonlisted furbearers for which range-wide population declines have been documented included gray fox (Urocyon cinereoargenteus) and muskrat (Ondatra zibethicus). Cold spots for nongame, nonlisted species included Cryptotis and Sorex shrews and southern bog lemming (Synaptomys cooperi). This single digital source for the widely scattered primary literature on Indiana mammals should make the voluminous prior research more accessible and useful to scientists planning future studies. Bobcat (Lynx rufus) populations have increased in the midwestern U.S. since the 1980s after substantial declines and local extirpations into the mid-1900s. We monitored 38 radio-collared bobcats (25 males, 13 females) from 1998 to 2006 in a recovering population in south-central Indiana to investigate survival and mortality causes. Annual survival was high (S = 0.80, 95% CI = 0.71-0.89), comparable to results from other studies of bobcats in unexploited populations and higher than in harvested populations. Of 17 known deaths, vehicle collisions were the largest source of mortality (n = 9; 53%), followed by illegal shootings (n = 3; 18%). Higher values of habitat heterogeneity within home ranges were associated with lower risk of mortality. Declines in amphibian populations have led to greater research and monitoring of species of interest, including terrestrial salamanders. Several methods have been used to study salamanders, including artificial cover objects (ACOs). Artificial cover objects are easy to install and use, limit destruction to habitats, are easily reproducible both across and within studies, and can reduce variability between observers and sites by not relying on observer search time or effort, or on natural cover. However, different ACO designs and spacing may yield different capture rates, and thus different estimates of population densities. We examined the influence of ACO wood type, size, shape, and spacing arrays on the number of individually marked red‐backed salamanders (Plethodon cinereus) captured under ACOs. White pine (Pinus strobus) ACOs yielded the most (average of 14 across 3 replicates) individuals, while white ash (Fraxinus americana) ACOs had the least (average of 7 across 3 replicates). Larger ACOs had similar capture rates compared to equal sampled areas of smaller ACOs, but a single smaller ACO tended to have fewer individual salamander captures than a single large ACO. Our results suggested that high‐density ACO spacing arrays may increase capture probability but reduce the area uniquely sampled by each ACO. In contrast, low‐density ACO arrays may produce population estimates more comparable to other arrays. Future studies should consider monitoring goals and available sampling effort when choosing a spacing array. As ACO study design impacts salamander capture rates, a clear understanding of the effects of each element of ACO design is important when drawing inferences or making comparisons among studies. Ecologists often focus on summarized composition when assessing complex, multivariate phenotypes such as fatty acids. Increasing complexity in fatty acid composition may offer benefits to individuals that may not be recognized by assessing mean fatty acid identity.Wequantified fatty acid identity and complexityinthe egg and muscleof spawning female yellow perch (Perca flavescens (Mitchill, 1814)) exposed to three overwinter thermal regimes (4, 8, and 13 [degrees]C) to evaluate (i) thermal regulation of fatty acid complexity, (ii) fatty acid complexity and identity differences between female muscle and eggs, and (iii) relationships between fatty acid complexity and egg traits. Temperature did not alter fatty acid complexity in either tissue. Muscle contained an even distribution of 12 abundant polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA), while eggs exhibited a simpler phenotype of eight compounds. Fatty acid complexity in female muscle was positively correlated with potential indicators of egg quality, including size and lipid content. Preferential allocation of fatty acids to eggs by females likely contributed to a simple phenotype dominated by PUFA precursors and energy sources, while muscle representeda more complex fatty acid phenotype. Recognizing complexity could elucidate variation in reproductive condition among individuals, while identifying patterns in fatty acid allocation among populations. Nous avons quantifié l'identité et la complexité des acides gras dans les oeufs et les muscles de perchaudes (Perca flavescens (Mitchill, 1814)) femelles reproductrices exposées à trois régimes thermiques hivernaux différents (4, 8 et 13 [degrees]C) pour évaluer (i) la régulation thermique de la complexité des acides gras, (ii) les différences de complexité et d'identité des acides gras entre les muscles de femelles et les oeufs et (iii) les relations entre la complexité des acides gras et les caractères des oeufs. La température n'avait pas d'influence sur la complexité des acides gras dans l'un ou l'autre des tissus. Les muscles présentaient une distribution uniforme de 12 acides gras polyinsaturés abondants (AGPI), alors que les oeufs présentaient un phénotype plus simple de huit composés. La complexité des acides gras dans les muscles des femelles était positivement corrélée à des indicateurs potentiels de qualité des oeufs, dont la taille et le contenu en lipides. L'affectation préférentielle d'acides gras aux oeufs par les femelles explique probablement en partie la simplicité du phénotype dans lequel dominent des précurseurs d'AGPI et des sources d'énergie, alors que les muscles représentent un phénotype d'acides gras plus complexe.
