We report the first record of Aquilegia grubovii (Ranunculaceae) for Russia, a rare species previously known from five localities in Mongolia. The species belongs to A. sect. Aquilegia subsect. Aquilegia and is characterized by curved or hooked spurs slightly longer than the limb of petals, 2–2.8 mm long, straight only at the top diverging fruits with stylodia 2 times shorter than follicles, smooth or tuberculate seed surface and stems covered with simple and glandular hairs. The new records of Aquilegia grubovii are located in the Azas Nature Reserve, which is situated in the central part of the Todzha basin, Tuva Republic (a large intermountain trough within the Altai-Sayan mountain region) of south-central Asia about 500 km west of Lake Baikal. We provide an assessment of the conservation status, geographical distribution and habitat of Aquilegia grubovii, along with an identification key to all species from Russia.

Aqueous-ethanol extracts (70%) from the leaves of Eranthis longistipitata Regel. (Ranunculaceae Juss.)—collected from natural populations of Kyrgyzstan—were studied by liquid chromatography with high-resolution mass spectrometry (LC-HRMS). There was no variation of the metabolic profiles among plants that were collected from different populations. More than 160 compounds were found in the leaves, of which 72 were identified to the class level and 58 to the individual-compound level. The class of flavonoids proved to be the most widely represented (19 compounds), including six aglycones [quercetin, kaempferol, aromadendrin, 6-methoxytaxifolin, phloretin, and (+)-catechin] and mono- and diglycosides (the other 13 compounds). In the analyzed samples of E. longistipitata, 14 fatty acid–related compounds were identified, but coumarins and furochromones that were found in E. longistipitata were the most interesting result; furochromones khelloside, khellin, visnagin, and cimifugin were found in E. longistipitata for the first time. Coumarins 5,7-dihydroxy-4-methylcoumarin, scoparone, fraxetin, and luvangetin and furochromones methoxsalen, 5-O-methylvisammioside, and visamminol-3′-O-glucoside were detected for the first time in the genus Eranthis Salisb. For all the above compounds, the structural formulas are given. Furthermore, detailed information (with structural formulas) is provided on the diversity of chromones and furochromones in other representatives of Eranthis. The presence of chromones in plants of the genus Eranthis confirms its closeness to the genus Actaea L. because chromones are synthesized by normal physiological processes only in these members of the Ranunculaceae family.

We have found a taxonomically unclear linear-leaved Potamogeton (section Graminifolii , Potamogetonaceae) in Central Yakutia (Asian Russia). This form resembles P . friesii and P . pusillus , two common species in the republic, and the mainly European species P . rutilus and North American P . strictifolius . These species, except P . strictifolius , did not differ by variation of the nuclear ITS region. The chloroplast markers petL-psbE and rpl32-trnL clearly separated the unclear Yakutian plants from P . friesii and P . pusillus , and the latter marker revealed similarity between the European P . rutilus and the Yakutian samples. The latter fit well within the morphological circumscription of P . rutilus . We confirmed the presence of P . rutilus in five localities in Central Yakutia and 13 more in other regions of North Asia. These records greatly extends to the east the distribution range of this species known before mainly west of the Middle Volga. Potamogeton rutilus prefers clean, mainly mesotrophic lakes with alkaline waters, and occurs in coastal areas or in limestone and sandstone catchments. The species usually grow in deep waters on silt-sandy bottom, in species-rich communities. It is sensitive to pollution and competition with more robust aquatic plants. Due to local distribution and specific habitat requerments P . rutilus can be regarded as threatened species and deserve the category Vulnerable in regional and global Red Lists.
