The focus of this paper is a possible Siberian link with the Na-Dene Languages, based on cognitive lexical semantics. Dene-Yeniseian is a proposed language family consisting of the Yeniseian languages of Central Siberia and the Na-Dene languages of North-Western North America (Campbell 2011; Trombetti 1923; Vajda 2010, 2011, 2018). The paper connects semantic universals, Ket and Dene folklore, and also comparative historical linguistic research. In analyzing a group of cognates, the paper’s aim is to discuss the cultural, cognitive and pragmatic reasons that enabled these cognates to survive for several thousand years. Our main point is that factors such as the relative importance of linguistic signs in a language community, lingual conservatism of semantic universals and the distinctiveness of its referents, probable frequency with which these words were used, and their cultural symbolism in relatively similar environments significantly contributed to their survival in ethnic groups belonging to the proposed language family. Our cross-disciplinary study helps us identify the essential place of eco-ethnic material in interpreting cross-continental similarities and emphasizes the integrative role of culture. It will be argued that the eco-ethnic lexicon reflected by the Dene-Yeniseian cognates reveals several thousand years of diachronic cognitive processes.

The paper is devoted to the problem of the concept “painting” realization in the “Moon and sixpence” by S. Maugham. It is argued that application of cognitive discourse analysis and analysis of the conceptosphere of the literary text is helpful in overcoming difficulties in interpretation of the original literary text. Various methods of studying literary text existing in modern methodology are shown. The contribution of Russian and foreign science in determining approaches to the analysis of communicative and cognitive components of the text and application of interdisciplinary approaches and consideration of cultural aspects of literary texts of the target language are emphasized. The need for incorporating development of important translational competences into the process of carrying out cognitive-discourse analysis of the literary text is demonstrated

The article considers the changes taking place in a contemporary university under the influence of globalization processes. The authors note the following contradiction: on the one hand, according to the logic of globalization processes, “the idea of a university” today must assume a purpose to ensure a new world linguistic, cultural and national order. What choice lies in store for a university if it cannot ignore globalization processes and, at the same time, it cannot give up its national spiritual distinctiveness? A solution of the contradiction is linked to a search for new forms of existence of culture and spirituality as a humanitarian component of the university's life and the content of its “idea”. The contemporary “idea of a university” finds itself in the unity of universal and individual, global and local.

This paper analyzes the structural content of foreign language discourse. Flexibility, mobility, fluidity and self-development of the discourse are closely connected with the ability of people to retain in their memory and to momentarily elicit from it an enormous number of words necessary for the process of constant communication. Teaching a foreign language discourse as a super-complex self-developing system can be successfully improved due to the methodological technique we have elaborated and described in the paper. We explore a model of teaching that has an interdisciplinary status and is based on synergetic principles, where language, environment and linguistic personality constitute an open super-complex self-developing system with a considerable accent on personal effort.

The article deals with the problem of tolerance in the prospective of modern information sociality. The method of comparativism makes it possible to find the specifics of the status of this problem at different stages of historical development. Sociocultural approach allowed us extensively consider tolerance as a way of communicative interaction between people (in the biological, social, national, cultural plans). Due to the nature of the modern type of society, its communicative ontology, tolerance is seen as a principle indifferent towards anthropological orientations in the society organization. Tolerance is a social, but not individually personal principle of life interaction between people. However, particularly this indifference gives tolerance possibility to organize society based on democracy, law and ethical norms and to saturate all forms of human interaction with the anthropological content. In this content tolerance has both positive (tolerance is the basis of social democratic regimes) and negative (alienation and disunity of people on a personal level, the crisis of personal identity) sides.

The adaptation of works of literature has been a staple part of film production in all countries of the world. Western theories of adaptation have focused on the relationship of the film to the original text, and the vision of the director. Essentially these theories can be reduced to one question: who owns the film version: the author or the director? In Russia, the relationship between authors and director is further complicated by time, as the genre of literary adaptation has much in common with the historical film: both tell us as much about the times in which these films were made, as about the source material. Russian film adaptations of literature have consistently referred to the source text with great respect but also with an eye to their contemporary relevance. The Russian classical and Soviet literary heritage provides a rich repository of cultural values that can be celebrated in any era, but which can also comment on the mores of that era, sometimes to satirical effect. What distinguishes the Russian approach to literary adaptation is its espousal of periodization, wherein a film adaptation may reveal more about the time in which it was produced than develop the actual literary original itself.,
