1. Springback Analysis in the Bending Process of V-shaped Stainless Steel AISI 304 Using Central Composite Design (CCD) Approach

Abstract

This study's principal goal is to investigate how the punch angle and punch radius impact the optimum springback during stainless steel sheet made of AISI 304 bent. Central Composite Designs (CCD) are employed for experimental design and statistical evaluation to determine the optimal springback. The experimental factors include punch angle (85,0°, 87,5°, 90,0°), punch radius (1,0 mm, 1,5 mm, 2,0 mm) with a constant 3200 Newton bending force. The analysis of variance (ANOVA) yields a substantial mathematical model that is quadratic for predicting the optimal springback. The attainment of optimal springback is foreseen through an ideal bending procedure employing a punch characterized by a 1,2 mm radius and an 89,7° angle, resulting in an anticipated average springback of 0,29°. Hence, the combination of punch angle and punch radius is pivotal in attaining the intended bending angle.

Abstract

Bending of sheet metal bending is widely used to operate in sheet metal. The bending operation raises some technical matters in production, such as the prediction of spring back and bending load. In this paper, the values of the spring back and bending load (force) are investigated for stainless steel sheet metal. This study aims to investigate the effect of punch parameters on spring back and bending forces, and to optimize the process parameters that are carried out to obtain punch parameters that produce minimum spring back and small bending forces. The two sheet metal thicknesses (1 and 2 mm) were applied. The experimental parameters were performed variable punch angle (i.e. 80o, 85o, and 90o), variable punch radius (i.e. 2 mm, 4 mm, and 6 mm), and variable punch travel (i.e. 18.5, 19, and 19.5). The Response Surface Methodology (RSM) was used to analyze the input process (punch radius, punch angle, and punch travel) and the responses (i.e. spring back and bending load/forces). The result of this study can determine the resulting spring back and bending load based on punch parameters. it can be concluded that spring back is significantly affected by punch angle and punch travel than punch radius. While the bending load is influenced by the punch angle and punch radius. Furthermore, the RSM was optimizing the all data to obtain the minimum spring back and bending force. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Minimizing the energy demand of machining operations has become mainly in the manufacturing field; encouraged by the significantly increase in the energy cost and the environmental effects due to high levels of energy demand. The energy consumed to cutting operation in turning process was divided into two sections, i.e. the energy used to setup machine and the energy consumed to cutting process. The total energy demand of machining process can be estimated with prediction equations based on material removal rate (MRR) and cutting force. This paper aims to promote an approach to predict and calculated the total energy demand of cutting operation performing the sustainable in turning process. The results presented that the estimated of energy demand values are almost similar to the actual values about 7.3 percent than the actual energy demand.

27. The Influence of Punch Angle on the Spring Back during V-Bending of Medium Carbon Steel

Abstract

This study presents the influence of punch angle on the spring back behavior of the medium carbon steel under V-bending through experimental and analytical studies. Punch angle from 80o, 85o and 90o were applied to the samples, which were bent on a 90° V-shaped die for the spring back evaluation. Results from both the experimental and analytical method indicate that the spring back has similar results with the punch angle of 80o, 85o and 90o.
