In this paper, we analyze performance of an intelligent reflecting surface (IRS)-assisted simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) system with the optimal phase shift. Specifically, we consider a transmitter sends power and information signals with the assistance of an IRS and spatially correlated fading channels. In practice, the channel between the transmitter and the IRS and between IRS and the receiver are spatially correlated, which constitutes a challenge for accurate performance analysis. In the system, we derive an optimal phase shift, in which the main lobe of the reflected signal at the IRS is directed to the receiver. Then, we develop a closed-form expression to evaluate the average harvested energy and information outage probability. We validate that the proposed model via Monte Carlo simulation.

A combination of seismic reflection, MASW and electric resitivity surveys are carried out to supplement a surface geotechnical observation at an area in Bosnia and Herzegovina for potential of further landslides. This is a Geoscientists without Borders project. Surface observation found soft and low strength layers in the area with multiple scarps and cracks. The depths of slip surface are estimated at 10m at the upper part of slope and about 2m at the lower part of slope. These are indicated by low reflectivity on the seismic reflection, low S-wave velocity in the MASW and high conductivity in the resistivity tomography sections. According to these results, several suggestions are made to local government to mitigate landslide disasters.

A heavy rainfall caused an extensive damage in the catchment area of River Sava in May 2014. In response, the Association of Geoscientists and Environmentalists of Serbia organized a Geoscientists without Borders project for 2015-2016 to assess landslide potential at six locations of Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Geophysicists from many parts of the world, local students, local government staff and local residents participated in the surveys carried out in three phases. Among these surveys, this paper presents one in Novi Seher in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The data were primarily collected for reflection survey and the MASW processing used a subset of the data by extracting appropriate traces. The analysis resulted in S-wave velocity sections which are geologically plausible, with a potential slip surface between 0 and 10m deep. This result will be integrated with seismic reflection and refraction analyses to contribute to designing disaster mitigation plan.
