The objective of this research is to evaluate the effectiveness of innovation ecosystem instruments in increasing the adoption of innovation in sustainable entrepreneurship by proposing and developing a comprehensive assessment decision model. The strategy targets used in this research depend on five perspectives that are considered by decision-makers as significant for the adoption process. The decision model linked the five perspectives to ecosystem targets and various innovation ecosystem instruments which are economic, environmental, social, technical, and ethical perspectives. This research employed the Hierarchical Decision Model (HDM) as a methodology to construct a generalized ecosystem assessment model combined with the desirability curves method. The findings indicate that economic feasibility improvement and technical system development perspectives and their associated strategy targets as the most influential and important for fostering the adoption of innovation in sustainable entrepreneurship. - Abstract
Promoting sustainable entrepreneurship among ambitious entrepreneurs may be a successful means of lowering ecological footprints and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals in developing countries. Global environmental concerns are increasingly motivating young entrepreneurs toward sustainable start-up ventures, which serve as a primary predictor of entrepreneurial activity. Such an understanding has led to an increase in interest in investigating youth entrepreneurial intentions across various entrepreneurial tiers and kinds, particularly from the standpoint of sustainability. The purpose of this research was to look at the factors that influence university students' intentions to establish sustainable enterprises that promote the protection of natural and ecological resources. The data collected from 1932 Chinese university students were analyzed through partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM). The results disclosed that environmental values (β = 0.664, t-value = 8.973), green self-efficacy (β = 0.604, t-value = 6.565), environmental concerns (β = 0.547, t-value = 8.164), green citizenship behavior (β = 0.485, t-value = 9.151), and climate change knowledge (β = 0.345, t-value = 12.778) have a significantly strong positive effect on the students' sustainable entrepreneurial intentions. Moreover, findings also confirmed that green attitude partially mediates the relationships between environmental value, green self-efficacy, environmental concerns, green citizenship behavior and sustainable entrepreneurial intentions. The findings also revealed that environmental education moderates the positive effect of green attitude on sustainable entrepreneurial intentions and this effect is stronger for the students who have education with environment regarding courses. Therefore, it is suggested that environment and entrepreneurship-related courses be included in the syllabus of each discipline as compulsory subjects for promoting sustainable entrepreneurial intentions and addressing ecological concerns. This paper investigates the relationship between sustainable entrepreneurship and financial inclusion, financial literacy, and entrepreneurial orientation. As sustainable entrepreneurship gains academic and practical interest, understanding factors that enable entrepreneurs to operate sustainably is fundamental. The manuscript uses an electronic questionnaire distributed to key economic stakeholders and performs partial least squares structural equation modeling on data from 169 respondents. The results show that entrepreneurial orientation has a positive and significant impact on sustainable entrepreneurship, with a beta coefficient of 0.878 and a probability value of less than 0.01. Financial literacy significantly influences sustainable entrepreneurship, with a beta coefficient of 0.389 and a probability value of less than 0.001, and it partially mediates its relationship with financial inclusion, showing a beta coefficient of 0.3 and a probability value of 0.013. Financial literacy and financial inclusion are positively correlated, with a beta coefficient of 0.771 and a probability value of less than 0.05. However, the impact of financial inclusion on sustainable entrepreneurship is negative and insignificant, with a beta coefficient of −0.392, and there is no evidence that entrepreneurial orientation moderates the link between financial literacy and sustainable entrepreneurship. The findings provide valuable insights for Moroccan policymakers to promote entrepreneurship, suggesting that financial literacy plays a crucial role in enhancing sustainable business practices. The study emphasizes the need for Morocco to adapt to current programs and create a supportive financial environment for entrepreneurs. Due to a lack of comprehensive datasets, the study's conclusions are limited and might not accurately reflect the entire landscape. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Despite a potential mismatch between characteristics of cleantech innovations and the venture capital model, there has been a surge of cleantech venture capital firms (VCs). This paper investigates how cleantech VC investment approaches are aligned with hybrid institutional logics. We mapped 36 European VCs regarding their portfolio firms' industries, technology focus, and level of innovation. From this sample, we interviewed nine VC investors to gain a comprehensive understanding of the phenomenon. The findings show a heterogenous landscape of cleantech VC investment approaches. Cleantech VCs finance mostly incremental innovations in highly emissive sectors. For several of the VCs, the findings highlight a disconnect between the externally communicated cleantech mission and lack of approaches for environmental impact management. We develop propositions for future research. This study adds novel empirical perspectives and contributes to the development of hybrid logics in institutional logics theory with a nuanced examination of the European VC cleantech market. Purpose: In order to achieve a sustained level of entrepreneurship in India, it is very important that the spirit and culture of entrepreneurship are ingrained in students, right at the "school" level. Specifically, in this study we examine how student entrepreneurial behavior is influenced by entrepreneurial activities at school. Design/methodology/approach: We chose schools in India to recruit the students' samples; 520 higher secondary school students were approached in-person to understand their entrepreneurial intentions (EI). We applied PLS-SEM to test the relationships of serial mediation. Findings: Our findings imply that the students' entrepreneurial intentions are largely influenced by the school's entrepreneurship program (e.g. labs, lectures and exercises). Further, we noted that school career guidance and students' entrepreneurship attitude effectively mediate the relationship between school entrepreneurship curriculum and EI. Practical implications: Entrepreneurship education beginning in schools does foster stronger entrepreneurial intent over the short-term. It also helps in fostering entrepreneurs, who create jobs and support in achieving the country's desired SDGs. Originality/value: The study contributes new dimensions to entrepreneurship research focusing on school children hence anchoring at early stages. Purpose: The basic research hypothesis is as follows ' Socio-economic cohesion has a positive, statistically significant impact on the development of sustainable entrepreneurship in Poland from 2008 to 2022'. Design/methodology/approach: We normalize diagnostic variables into synthetic indicators to verify the hypothesis. We use the classical least squares method (OLS). Findings: Sustainable entrepreneurship in Poland has a positive trend, although it should be pointed out that the ecological awareness of entrepreneurs should be significantly increased. The results of the study show that social and economic cohesion has a positive impact on sustainable entrepreneurship. Research limitations/implications: The availability of data, the choice of normalization method and the estimation method for the model. Social implications: Socio-economic development that considers protecting the natural environment is a source of new entrepreneurial opportunities, generating new profits and solving social and ecological problems. It is a challenge for the entrepreneur, an opportunity, and at the same time, requires a change in the perception and understanding of his role in developing modern economic systems. Originality/value: The paper's novelty is an attempt to assess the impact of social and economic cohesion on sustainable entrepreneurship in Poland from 2008 to 2022. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
To date, deep-tech entrepreneurship and sustainable entrepreneurship are both attracting the interest of researchers. Indeed, deep-tech is being employed to address future sustainable challenges in the present. Nevertheless, the process of deep-tech startups is filled with distinct obstacles. These types of startups may necessitate a more targeted sustainable entrepreneurial process and specialised knowledge compared to conventional technological startups or general sustainable entrepreneurial processes. Currently, most publications discuss either a sustainable entrepreneurial process or conventional technical startups. Therefore, this article aims to investigate the process of sustainable entrepreneurs as they transition from startup ventures to scaleup enterprises within the context of the deep-tech industry. Based on previous sustainable entrepreneurial processes, a multiple case study was conducted within six deep-tech startups, using a narrative progress research strategy, to find the sustainable process pattern. A conceptual model of a sustainable entrepreneurial process in deep-tech industry is established, including five phases with six activities: (i) Sustainable idea definition; (ii) Sustainable opportunity recognition and evaluation; (iii) Venture launch; (iv.i) Sustainable products/services development; (iv.ii) New sustainable enterprise financing; and (v) Sustainable enterprise scaleup. This process enables sustainable deep-tech entrepreneurs, policymakers, and financial investors to necessarily have an overview of the key entrepreneurial stages to navigate from the startup to the scaleup process. - Abstract
Sustainable entrepreneurship has recently started to receive global attention, underscoring the need to understand the perspective of women entrepreneurs working in the apparel sector in Saudi Arabia. The present study focuses on exploring sustainable entrepreneurship with specific regards to the experiences of female entrepreneurs and sustainable activities within the sector. This study used a qualitative approach, conducting semi-structured interviews of 30 female entrepreneurs in Saudi Arabia's apparel industry. Thematic analysis was employed to understand sustainable entrepreneurship behavior and its causes. The descriptive findings reveal a strong correlation between advanced degrees and professional membership held by the participants, implying higher qualifications and membership with professional bodies result in work with more extensive and established fashion ventures involving on average 10 employees and five business partners. It was also found that female entrepreneurs in Saudi Arabia employed sustainable strategies based on their beliefs and customer needs and preferences. However, they faced issues of tradition and prejudice against women. This study further identified four critical categories of sustainable entrepreneurship drivers: gender dynamics (GDs), social norms (SNs), access to resources, and sustainable entrepreneurship practices. This study offers valuable recommendations to policymakers, actors, and women entrepreneurs striving to develop sustainable practices in the industry. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Developing solutions to sustainability challenges requires cooperation among various stakeholders, including organizations that compete at the same time. Prior studies investigate the barriers, drivers, outcomes and tensions of coopetition among sustainable entrepreneurs. In this paper, we consider the coopetition both among sustainable entrepreneurs and between sustainable entrepreneurs and incumbents. Based on interviews with 23 key stakeholders from the New Zealand alternative protein industry, our findings confirm that value alignment plays an important role in determining firms' openness to coopetition and misalignment can hinder coopetitive relationships. However, value misalignment can be mitigated in situations where sustainable entrepreneurs demonstrate high sustainability orientation, allowing for coopetition between sustainable entrepreneurs and incumbents. Finally, coopetition with incumbents enables sustainable entrepreneurs to support sustainable development. Overall, these findings suggest that coopetition is an important yet complex strategy for sustainable entrepreneurs. The findings provide several contributions to the literature regarding sustainable entrepreneurship and coopetition. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The degrowth paradigm has gained popularity in the sustainability discourse in recent years. Questioning the absolute decoupling of economic growth from environmental degradation, degrowth proponents suggest downscaling production and consumption to reduce resource extraction and energy consumption. However, this seems to be at odds with conventional wisdom about entrepreneurship. Thus, our research aims to shed light on the implications of the degrowth discourse on entrepreneurship. We answer how degrowth attitudes among (sustainable) entrepreneurs are associated with decision‐making on scaling strategies for their ventures. Differentiating between scaling fast and scaling slow strategies, we show that a degrowth attitude is negatively associated with scaling fast strategies, whether entrepreneurs consider themselves sustainable or not. However, sustainable entrepreneurship is positively associated with scaling slow strategies. Furthermore, we show that the development level of the economy an entrepreneur is active in is an essential factor in the decision‐making on scaling strategies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine how Portuguese women jewelry artisan entrepreneurs are empowered using digital technology. Recently, there has been an emphasis on the artisan and craft industry due to renewed interest in handicrafts but limited research exists about how digital and international entrepreneurship has influenced its growth. This study focuses on this gap by stressing the need to take a gender lens on international digital business activity in terms of how it is conducted. In‐depth semistructured interviews with women jewelry makers located in Portugal were conducted to understand how their digital experiences led to increased levels of internationalization. The findings suggest that the use of digital technology was supported by co‐creation, internationalization, and sustainability initiatives. The results of the study highlight the way crisis conditions from the COVID‐19 pandemic led to increased emphasis by artisan entrepreneurs on digital entrepreneurship and this had flow‐on effects leading to higher internationalization rates. - Abstract
Given the profound environmental and societal challenges, many higher education institutions (HEI) have adopted sustainability as a central mission to induce desirable societal impacts. While previous research investigated the transformation processes of HEIs toward sustainability, few studies took an explicit entrepreneurial perspective and questioned its implications for the Entrepreneurial University (EU) model. To address this gap, our study explores the emergence and pursuit of a Sustainable Entrepreneurial University (SEU). We specifically focus on the role of sustainable university business incubators (UBIs) as primary institutions of entrepreneurship within the SEU model. Using a multiple-case study of four German UBIs, we illustrate how they embarked on their sustainability journey, developed internal capacities to support sustainable entrepreneurship, and overcame various barriers during their transformation trajectories. Our analysis identifies six distinct sustainability transformation stages and proposes a stylized model to explain the emergence of sustainability in UBIs. Based on these findings, our study discusses several theoretical implications for the SEU. We illustrate that SEU sustainability impacts evolve over time and that continuous leadership commitment is a mediating factor. Moreover, our results suggest that SEUs strategically engage in external partnerships with alternating functions. Given the urgency to promote sustainable entrepreneurship in HEIs, the study concludes with several practical recommendations for practitioners and policymakers. Moreover, it offers suggestions for future research to explore the potential of SEUs and their contribution to addressing pressing societal and ecological challenges. Plain English Summary: University startups as catalyzers for sustainable impact– How university business incubators adopt sustainability missions and rethink startup support. In a world challenged by significant environmental and societal issues, many universities increasingly incorporate sustainability into their missions to make a positive impact. Our research takes an entrepreneurial perspective and focuses on the role of university business incubators in this transformation. By examining four German cases, we explore how these incubators adopted sustainability as a central mission, developed internal capacities to support sustainable startups, and addressed various challenges during their transformation. Our study outlines six distinct stages in the sustainability transformation of university business incubators, highlighting critical factors such as the enduring commitment of leadership and the strategic importance of external partnerships. Drawing from our findings, we discuss the implications of realizing the Sustainable Entrepreneurial University model, which promotes sustainability through entrepreneurship. Our research serves as a valuable resource for managers and staff looking to promote sustainability within business incubators and provides guidance for policymakers and university leaders working to develop effective startup strategies in response to societal and environmental challenges. The concept of sustainable entrepreneurship is becoming an increasingly pivotal area of focus in the global effort to address a range of pressing challenges, including climate change, resource scarcity, and social inequality. Entrepreneurs who integrate economic, environmental, and social goals into their business models can serve as pivotal agents in achieving both profitability and societal well-being. Nevertheless, despite the growing interest in sustainable business models, entrepreneurs encounter considerable obstacles that impede the scalability and success of their ventures. This study focuses on the identification and analysis of the principal obstacles across five key dimensions: economic, regulatory, social, technological, and environmental. The aim of this research is to examine the difficulties encountered by those engaged in sustainable entrepreneurship and to suggest strategies for surmounting these challenges. Methodologically, the study employs a multi-dimensional approach, with each challenge examined through qualitative analysis. The economic challenges, including the high initial costs and difficulties in accessing funding, are identified as some of the most significant barriers. The presence of regulatory challenges, such as inconsistent environmental policies and the absence of governmental incentives, serves to further complicate the business landscape. Furthermore, social challenges, such as consumer reluctance to pay higher prices for sustainable products and resistance to adopting new, eco-friendly habits, also play a crucial role in hindering the success of sustainable ventures. Furthermore, the absence of access to sophisticated green technologies and the requisite expertise to deploy them constitutes a substantial technological impediment for entrepreneurs. The results of the study indicate the existence of several potential avenues for addressing these challenges. For example, the increasing consumer demand for environmentally friendly products and services, in conjunction with technological advancements, presents a substantial opportunity for sustainable entrepreneurship. The practical value of the research lies in its strategic recommendations, which encourage collaboration between policymakers, businesses, and investors. Such collaborative endeavours can facilitate the creation of an enabling environment for sustainable entrepreneurship, thereby reducing economic and regulatory burdens while simultaneously promoting technological advancements. In conclusion, the study emphasises the necessity of a coordinated approach in order to overcome the barriers faced by sustainable entrepreneurs. By capitalising on emerging opportunities and cultivating a supportive ecosystem, entrepreneurs can simultaneously achieve financial success and a positive impact on society and the environment.

Environmental sustainability has become one of the key issues for the future development of the European Union (EU). Estonia's startup entrepreneurship contributes prominently to innovative ideas in energy technology and information and communication technology (ICT) applications, essential for sustainability. Research and education are prerequisites for innovation in both fields. The gap in educational levels between Estonian women and men, favoring women, is among the largest in the EU. However, the proportion of women in entrepreneurship is significantly lower, even though the share of women in ICT personnel is among the highest in Europe. This study sought to determine women's contribution to sustainability (technology) startups in the context of these contrasting gaps. The article's dataset was based on sources such as the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor, Ministry of Education and Science, Business Register, and Startup Ecosystem. It qualitatively analyzed the sustainability orientation of ventures and the gender structure of founders across nearly 1300 startups and clarified the share of selected startups' fundraising within the entire ecosystem. Through a simple regression analysis, we uncovered some short-term trends. Our findings indicate that 92% of the accumulated €4.46 billion in startup funding is foreign capital, and 171 sustainability startups account for nearly 63% of the ecosystem's total fundraising. Among the founders of top-invested startups, only 6% are women, whereas women constitute 23% of the founders of sustainability startups. Despite this, sustainability startups with female participation have secured only 2.2% of the total investments in the sustainability group, highlighting a drastic gender disproportion. However, the fundraising trend for women's sustainability startups founded in the last five years is more positive, reaching 24% of this group's investments. Although their overall share remains significantly lower compared with the entire startup ecosystem, this emerging trend is a promising sign of the breakthrough for female entrepreneurs in a traditionally male-dominated sector. The article's conclusion summarizes the study's results and suggests future gender-based research and development opportunities.

Abstract The current work highlights the evolution in knowledge management for sustainable entrepreneurship research by analyzing the key trends and major concepts. Additionally, the knowledge structures of such research themes were analyzed and mapped. Moreover, this paper seeks to present a research agenda concerning the study subject. It employed an integrated bibliometric approach and systematic review of knowledge management and sustainable entrepreneurship research by conducting two main procedures, namely domain analysis (i.e., key trends and evolution) and knowledge structures analysis (i.e., intellectual, social, and conceptual structure). A total of 233 documents were obtained from Scopus and Web of Science datasets and analyzed using both R 4.1.2 and VOSviewer software. The findings demonstrated that the contributors (i.e., the authors, nations, journals, and institutions) produced a discernible evolution in the body of knowledge on the themes of knowledge management and sustainable business within the designated period. Furthermore, science mapping approaches deeply grasp the social, conceptual, and intellectual structures of such research themes. This current work is considered one of the first attempts to systematically review, analyze, and visualize the scientific productions on knowledge management and sustainable entrepreneurship. The findings of the current work also offer a solid understanding and insights into the potential directions for the research agenda in these disciplines.

The main objective of this study is to provide a comprehensive and inclusive review of current research on sustainable entrepreneurship (SE). One of the aims of this study is to navigate the understanding of SE practices by investigating the prospects and trends in research on sustainable entrepreneurship. It seeks to present an efficient portrayal of the latest research on sustainable entrepreneurship, serving as a valuable reference for scholars, practitioners, and policymakers. By applying the PRISMA approach, this study is based on a systematic literature review (SLR), and a substantial pool of 363 Scopus results and 291 WOS results was obtained using the keyword "sustainable entrepreneurship," yielding a total of 654 articles that may be deemed possibly relevant. After the methodological screening, 234 mainly chosen studies using databases, including Scopus and WOS. This SLR utilizes thorough descriptive, Network, and thematic analysis, research tendencies, and methodological approaches. The findings of this study discussed the possible research gaps and future trends, suggesting the significant need for a stable framework for SE concepts. Empirical and exploratory studies are linked with social, economic, and technological scope, specifically sustainability, and are related to artificial intelligence (AI) studies. It contributes to laying the groundwork for future investigations into the critical connection between entrepreneurship and sustainability. Furthermore, given the continuously changing landscape of sustainable business, certain conclusions may be outdated. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: The study aims to analyze how the characteristics of intellectual capital (IC) facilitate green entrepreneurship development in the context of ecology, environment and sustainability. Specifically, the evolution of IC and green entrepreneurship was explored through a systematic review, including the relationships and interactions between human, structural and relational capital and green entrepreneurship. Design/methodology/approach: Meticulously combing the Web of Science Core Collection, the researcher conducted a bibliometric analysis of 800 English-language articles from 2002 to 2023. Employing co-word analysis and visualization, the literature on IC and green entrepreneurship was synthesized and systematized, exploring core topics, knowledge architectures and their evolutionary trajectories. Findings: The IC elements such as human, structural and relational capital interact with green entrepreneurship; IC enhances the innovation and competitiveness of green entrepreneurship, while green entrepreneurship orientation influences the accumulation and reshaping of IC. The flow of IC impacts the establishment of green start-ups and the emergence of green industries, promoting sustainable growth. Originality/value: The dynamic interplay between IC and green entrepreneurship is marked by intricate relationships and diverse attributes. Currently, no comprehensive theoretical model has been established to address the complexities intrinsic to this study. The evidence suggests that the green entrepreneurial orientation influences corporate initiatives to bolster human and structural capital, with structural capital serving as both a constraint and catalyst for human capital. The paper presents an embryonic framework of IC for green entrepreneurship, highlighting its critical role in the aggregation and reconfiguration of IC or venture creation and industry evolution. This contributes to a more profound understanding of IC in entrepreneurial contexts, providing a basis for future research and practical strategy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

[ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
While research exploring the benefits and challenges of integrating sustainability and digitalization in new ventures has been on the rise, a comprehensive examination of the accumulated knowledge on this topic remains elusive. Addressing this gap, this study aims to identify the simultaneous focus on digitalization and sustainability aspects in entrepreneurship literature and to investigate how the business model perspective has been incorporated into these studies. Using a two-phase bibliometric analysis of 284 papers from 2005 to 2022 in the Web of Science database, this paper identifies the unique research clusters in the literature. The gathered data was subjected to co-occurrence, citation, co-citation, co-author, and bibliographic coupling analysis. The results reveal that while some studies prioritize digital entrepreneurship with minimal consideration of sustainability, others predominantly emphasize social impact and sustainable development, treating digitalization merely as a means to an end. Additionally, only a small group of scholars have surveyed business models in this context. This study not only offers valuable insights into current trends and patterns in digital sustainability, but also provides a framework and suggestions for scholars and entrepreneurs alike to navigate this evolving landscape. The findings especially highlight the need for business model thinking to connect the digital and sustainable features of entrepreneurship, for the creation of more diverse international scholar networks, and for the execution of in-depth empirical research that allows for the inquiry of particular relationships and mechanisms. - Abstract
This study analyzed the relationship between environmental and cognitive factors and the entrepreneurial intentions of business students from the perspective of the Planned Behavior Theory. Data were collected in the classroom through a questionnaire that was distributed to 229 freshmen in the first year of the Accounting, Economics and Administration course, and the analysis was carried out using the Partial Least Squares - Structural Equation Model (PLS-SEM). It was found that education and conducive business environments are predictive of cognitive factors, such as a favorable evaluation of an entrepreneurial career choice and social pressures, with indirect effects on intentions to undertake entrepreneurship (EI). In addition, entrepreneurial intentions are influenced by cognitive factors, such as a positive evaluation of an entrepreneurial career and perceived entrepreneurial ability. This demonstrates that environmental factors potentiate cognitive factors and, indirectly, the intention to undertake entrepreneurship (EI). It was identified that public policies do not influence the perceived entrepreneurial capacity and that social pressures are not predictive of the surveyed students' intentions to undertake entrepreneurship. These data require the attention of universities and governments to create environments that are conducive to entrepreneurship and students' decisions to engage with sustainable projects and business models. It is concluded that environmental factors are predictive of cognitive aspects with positive and significant effects on the entrepreneurial career intentions of university students. An entrepreneurial attitude and the ability to transform ideas into actions create space for the promotion of a student micro-entrepreneur and the cultivation of a sustainable entrepreneurial culture in higher education. The current work highlights the evolution in knowledge management for sustainable entrepreneurship research by analyzing the key trends and major concepts. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Ethical and sustainable thinking is an important competence in the engineering education to support students' abilities to act and perform in a responsible manner in corporate contexts, and consequently contribute to a sustainable future. This paper investigates engineering students' attitudes towards ethical and sustainable thinking focusing on the corporate social responsibility (CSR) principles in the context of entrepreneurship courses as a part of larger research project. Engineering students from a Finnish and an Estonian university (N = 342) responded to a self-assessment survey. The students' attitudes towards CSR principles were assessed both on the enterprise level and the individual level as expectations of potential future employees. The findings indicate that engineering students acknowledge the need to take into account responsible thinking and that it is important for enterprises to be both socially and environmentally responsible in their activities. The self-assessment tool of ethical and sustainable thinking associated with the entrepreneurship competence model and CSR principles can be helpful in practice when university teachers wish to support and assess their students' attitudes towards CSR principles among other entrepreneurship competencies when creating new course content. - Abstract
As the concept of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) coincides with the direction of enterprises' sustainable development goals, this study measures sustainable entrepreneurship at the enterprise level by extending ESG measures. A time-varying measure was constructed using state-space models, and the entropy weight method was applied to obtain the final index. We selected annual data of 318 A-share listed companies for 2011–2020 and established a two-way fixed-effects model of time and individuals by applying the constructed sustainable entrepreneurship index. This study examines the impact of sustainable entrepreneurship on corporate value and discusses the moderating effects of financing constraints and government subsidies. The empirical results reveal the following aspects. First, sustainable entrepreneurship has a significant positive effect on corporate value. Second, the greater the degree of financing constraints faced by enterprises, the weaker the role of sustainable entrepreneurship in promoting corporate value. Third, the greater the government subsidies received by enterprises, the stronger the promotion. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Circular start-ups (CSUs) are gaining popularity to radically rethink the linear resource flows of global production systems and adopt ambitious approaches towards a circular economy from inception. For CSUs, the institutional environment is particularly relevant; this is because the complex nature of sustainability challenges requires a deep engagement with institutions to drive transitions from linear to circular practices. This article analyses how and why institutional factors influence CSUs in the highly entrepreneurial region of Catalonia in Spain. Based on a multiple case study, our findings demonstrate that CSUs are affected by informal institutions through founder motivations, their ability to create opportunities and social values. Formal institutions influence CSUs regarding the previous experience of founders, accessible ecosystem actors and supportive laws and regulations. These findings are important for effective policymaking to develop adequate support mechanisms and understand the particular challenges and opportunities CSUs face compared to traditional start-ups. SMALL business ,SUSTAINABILITY ,MARKET orientation - Abstract
Despite concerted scholarly and managerial interests in sustainability, integrating the principle of sustainable development in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) remains an elusive goal. This article examines the complex interdependent nature of three strategic orientations (entrepreneurial orientation, market orientation, and sustainability orientation) and two external environmental conditions (competitive intensity and institutional support) and how they may jointly affect SME's financial, social, and environmental goals (triple bottom line or TBL)—in a nonlinear, configurational way. In accordance with this broad objective, the authors utilize fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA) on a sample of 289 SMEs operating in a developing economy. This approach enables nuanced detection of the various ways in which causal conditions (i.e., strategic orientations) and contextual conditions (i.e., external environmental factors) together can lead to the presence and absence of TBL. The analyses reveal complex causality between TBL and its antecedent conditions that cannot be explained solely by isolated net effects. Specifically, for each TBL dimension, two distinctive configurations are found to be consistently sufficient, thereby providing important theoretical and managerial implications. As a booster of entrepreneurship and innovation, digital technologies are gradually unlocking their transformative potential to mitigate and address major environmental and social problems, together with the platform connecting stakeholders, they offer new opportunities for value co‐creation. While the digital sustainable entrepreneurship framework, encompassing opportunity recognition and exploiting process, is still in the preliminary exploration. The article focalize the digital platform application cases of four sustainable start‐ups and attempts to deconstruct the process of digital sustainable entrepreneurship grounded in the dynamic capability theory. The results indicate that the company integrates the identification of sustainability issues and prediction of heterogeneous needs into multiple opportunity perception, thus establishing stakeholder identification and psychological empowerment to reserve implicit resources, so as to realize the creation of mixed value based on digital platform construction and interaction. The process of "perception–accumulation–co‐creation" presents an alternating cycle of evolution. The results provide support for sustainable entrepreneurship by highlighting the role of dynamic capability as action potentials connected with digital platforms, which in turn foster the study of digital innovation management. The study contributes to the advancement of the theory and practice of sustainable entrepreneurship (SE) by enabling a deeper understanding of the emerging construct, sustainability‐oriented entrepreneurial intentions (SEI) which is a precursor of SE. A unique, comprehensive model depicting the role of the individual‐level antecedents of SEI is developed from an exhaustive literature review, and it is then validated using survey responses from youth in India. Of the seven constructs identified from the literature, four constructs, namely Altruism, Environmental Values, Intrinsic Rewards, and Attitude Towards Sustainability (one of the Theory of Planned Behavior constructs [TPB]), were found to have the strongest relationship with SEI, while others (Extrinsic Rewards, General Self‐Efficacy, Job Security, Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) constructs Perceived Entrepreneurial Desirability, and Perceived Entrepreneurial Feasibility) were reported as statistically significant. Partial Mediating effects of TPB constructs were also reported. This research provides empirical evidence on the individual‐level antecedents of SEI, hence contributing to the sparse body of literature available on the emerging construct, SEI. The findings provide valuable insights for policymakers and educators to design effective approaches to foster SEI and expand the adoption of SE among young individuals. The originality of this study lies in the fact that, to date, no comprehensive research has been conducted on any demographic group in India to examine the individual‐level factors that influence SEI. Industrial economic activity is one of the primary causes of environmental degradation and a source of issues related to social inequality. Nevertheless, research has shown that the application of the sustainable entrepreneurship model can significantly improve environmental and social conditions while maintaining continuous and sustainable economic growth. Despite that, statistics show relatively low engagement in sustainable entrepreneurship, potentially due to a lack of expertise among entrepreneurs. Due to the low engagement, available sustainability performance metrics are not a relevant measurement tool. Thus, the purpose of this study is to identify a set of criteria that evaluate expertise levels in sustainable entrepreneurship within the manufacturing industry. Through the application of monographic and secondary data analysis methods, the authors carried out a literature review. The findings indicated that sustainable management is a key component to the triple-bottom-line (TBL) framework that is used as a conceptual basis for sustainable entrepreneurship. Additionally, the authors identified 19 criteria of sustainable entrepreneurship within four dimensions of sustainability (environmental, social, economic, and management). Despite the limitations, with a more refined literature review, the criteria could be applied as a comprehensive resource to estimate expertise in sustainable entrepreneurship in future studies on small and medium enterprises (SMEs). The purpose of the study is in two fold. First, the study examines the impact of language, history, and culture in Anglophone and Francophone countries on the rate of unemployment and economic growth. Second, the study explores the extent to which sustainable entrepreneurship influences the rate of unemployment, and economic growth in Anglophone and Francophone (A&F) countries. The study employed a descriptive and quantitative research design where a longitudinal data were sourced from the World Development Indicators and World Bank Entrepreneurship databases on 12 and 9 Francophone and Anglophone countries respectively. The random effect and the generalized method of moments (GMM) regression models were employed to attain the objectives of the study. The findings of the study revealed that there is a significant negative effect of sustainable entrepreneurship on unemployment; sustainable entrepreneurship has a positive significant effect on economic growth; and also, history and culture were found to have a significant impact on unemployment reduction and economic growth. However, language was found to have an insignificant influence between A&F countries suggesting that the ability of sustainable entrepreneurship to minimize the rate of unemployment and boost economic growth is generic irrespective of linguistic factors. Angola is one of the countries at the bottom of the ranking in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Creating sustainable businesses can accelerate the achievement of the SDGs. The present study analyses the antecedents of sustainability-oriented entrepreneurial intention (SOEI) among Angolan higher education students. It starts from the relationships established by the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) that were adapted to the sustainable strand. New possible behavioural antecedents of SOEI were added. The Partial Least Square method was applied to a sample of 308 Angolan higher education students. The results show that the TPB dimensions can be adapted and used as antecedents of SOEI and that the TPB can be extended, comprising new antecedents of SOEI also related to individuals' behaviours such as risk-taking propensity, internal locus of control, creativity and proactivity. These unknown antecedents can be taught, learned and stimulated, with universities, policymakers and organisations playing a pivotal role. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The global challenges and problems that threaten sustainability and human wellbeing demand the provision of creative, innovative, and affordable solutions so that they are within the reach of different levels of society. From the point of view of Higher Education, this is a major challenge since it is responsible for training new generations with the competencies and knowledge that allow them to respond to contemporary challenges and problems. This study provides a framework to promote sustainable entrepreneurship through transdisciplinary and abductive thinking. This combination of approaches will allow students to identify, analyze, and understand contemporary problems and, through a systematized process based on the "design thinking" design model, propose creative, innovative, and affordable solutions that can be implemented through entrepreneurship mechanisms. The identified findings that will be presented in this work are (i) the relevance of the Education 4.0 model as a reference to promote transdisciplinarity in a current teaching-learning context, (ii) The relevance of "design for sustainable development" as a trigger for sustainable entrepreneurship, (iii) The formation of desirable competencies in the profile of the higher education student based on transdisciplinarity and abductive thinking within the active learning process, and (iv) quantitative and qualitative measurement that allows measuring acceptance and evaluation of the long-term sustainability of the solutions obtained. This work will present the implementation of the proposed framework through a case study. This case study allowed us to identify elements of the proposed reference framework. The case study will address the problem of water scarcity and pollution, describing initiatives to achieve ODS 6, where it explains how sustainable and visionary solutions can be forged through transdisciplinary collaboration and abductive thinking. The project named "STEAM-mural fountain" done by a transdisciplinary working team between academia-society-industry is described, which aims to make technological advances in water treatment and monitoring visible to society. This study aims to explore the interaction of entrepreneurs with role models and role models' narratives (influential individuals, well-known ventures, stories, etc.) in the context of sustainability orientation. While some entrepreneurs are engaged in sustainability-oriented actions, others are not. Keeping in mind that role models can influence entrepreneurs' perceptions, action orientation, and values, there is a significant lack of clarity on how role models interact with entrepreneurs in terms of influencing sustainable-oriented business activities. Hence, this paper examines the nature and dynamic of these interactions in the context of entrepreneurial ecosystems by applying systematic inductive qualitative research methods and choosing the Estonian entrepreneurial ecosystem (EE) as a context. This study contributes into ongoing EE research by providing a better understanding of how supportive environments of EE and entrepreneurs' exposure to a variety of role models can foster sustainable entrepreneurial practices; expands understanding of Social Learning Theory in a sense of including "negative" rolde models and their influence by exploring how they can catalyze opposite behaviors, prompting entrepreneurs to reject unsustainable practices and adopt more ethical and environmentally friendly approaches. - Abstract
Purpose: This article explains the causal mechanism supporting sustainable longevity by analysing the last three generations of one of the oldest family firms in Latin America. Design/methodology/approach: An explanatory single-case qualitative research based on critical realism explores why and how this family firm has been able to maintain its multigenerational longevity. Findings: Los Lingues's evolutionary strategy, driven by transgenerational entrepreneurship under effectuation, has supported this family firm's sustainable longevity. Its effectual logic emerged mainly from the richness of the firm's historical resources embedded in its identity, knowledge and social capital and priority to preserve socioemotional wealth. Originality/value: This study integrates socioemotional wealth and effectuation theory to explain a family firm's ability to survive through generations and sustain longevity. The study demonstrates the relevance of effectual logic in the entrepreneurial dynamics of a multigenerational family firm. Effectual logic drives the firm evolution and adaptation for sustainable longevity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Previous research suggests that the entrepreneurial ecosystems (EEs) support factors are critical for the systemic development of micro, small. and medium enterprises (MSMEs). However, there is limited understanding of how MSME owner's/manager's characteristics impact their perspectives of the EE support factors for business development. This study addresses this research gap to adopt a coherent approach to understand the EE in supporting MSMEs to achieve transformational entrepreneurship (TE), which builds sustainable businesses for long-term societal benefits. The MSMEs characteristics alongside the EE factors were tested with 576 MSMEs in Nigeria. The MSME owner's/manager's characteristics were positively correlated to their perspective of EE support factors (access to finance, markets, resources, and policies and regulations), which were inadequate. The findings will assist theory and practice development to understand and focus on the EE discussed in the context of TE in Nigeria, offering potential insights for similar developing economies.
