The high demand for the fashion industry currently results in the emergence of the fast fashion phenomenon, prompting consumers to spend more money on unnecessary clothing. This leads to excessive clothing production, which impacts pollution, waste, and emissions. The phenomenon of excessive fashion consumption and production can be mitigated by utilizing second-hand clothing products. Purchasing second-hand clothing products can be classified as part of mindful consumption behavior. The aim of this study is to examine the direct and indirect effects of Electronic Word of Mouth on mindful consumption behavior in the context of local second-hand clothing purchases. Additionally, this study also tests the mediating effects of consumer engagement and environmental attitudes. This research is quantitative in nature, employing data collection through questionnaires from local second-hand clothing consumers within the active workforce demographic (aged 18–59) in Indonesia, yielding 205 respondents. The data analysis technique used is structural equation modeling-partial least square (SEM-PLS). The research findings indicate a significant positive direct influence of Electronic Word of Mouth on environmental attitudes, consumer engagement, and mindful consumption behavior. Moreover, there is a notable positive direct influence between consumer engagement and mindful consumption behavior, while no significant influence is found in the relationship between environmental attitudes and mindful consumption behavior. Furthermore, the study confirms the mediating effect of consumer engagement between Electronic Word of Mouth and mindful consumption behavior but does not support a significant mediating effect of environmental attitudes on local second-hand clothing mindful consumption behavior. Article Highlights: This study explores the effects of electronic word-of-mouth on mindful consumption behavior in the context of Indonesian local second-hand clothing purchases. This research uses quantitative methodology through questionnaires filled by 205 local second-hand clothing consumers in Indonesia. The result shows that consumer engagement has effect on electronic word-of-mouth and mindful consumption behavior but does not affect environmental attitudes of the Indonesian second-hand clothing consumers. Since the Paris Agreement in 2015, climate change has become an important global issue, prompting companies to adopt sustainable practices. PT United Tractors Tbk (UT), which relies heavily on coal, faces challenges due to the declining coal market and increasing emphasis on Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) principles. This research explores UT's strategic transition to diversify into the minerals and renewable energy sectors and assesses the potential of Sustainability Linked Loans (SLL) to support this transition. The research aims to evaluate UT's readiness to implement SLL by examining its business strategy, ESG initiatives, and financial performance. A qualitative approach was used, involving semi-structured interviews with UT management and analysis of annual reports. Findings show that UT is committed to achieving a 50-50 revenue balance between coal and noncoal businesses by 2030. SLL offers a viable funding solution, providing financial flexibility and incentivizing ESG improvements through interest rate discounts. The study concludes that UT's strong commitment to sustainability and proactive management puts it in a good position to obtain SLL, enhancing its ability to balance its portfolio and achieve long-term sustainability. Recommendations include improving ESG measurement systems, securing SLL agreements, and continuously monitoring ESG achievements to maximize benefits. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The Great Reset is a concept proposed by the World Economic Forum to rebuild the global economy sustainably following the COVID-19 pandemic, emphasising stakeholder capitalism, greener practices, and more equitable social contracts. However, most of the literature focuses on the role of business and government actors in the Great Reset. At the same time, research that considers the role of higher education institutions (HEIs) is lacking. However, HEIs have the significant capacity to support various aspects of the Great Reset. In this work, we examine different mechanisms by which HEIs could bring change, such as fostering the growth of workforce skills, promoting entrepreneurship and innovation, participating in community development and others. A survey on a sample of university professors, postdoctoral researchers, and research assistants has been conducted with the goal of evaluating the degree to which HEIs have played a role in influencing economic recovery after COVID-19, leveraging the industry 4.0, enhancing regional development, revitalising global cooperation, formulating sustainable business models, restoring environmental well-being, and restructuring social contracts, skills, and employment opportunities. A two-step cluster analysis has been conducted, indicating that HEIs played different roles in the Great Reset process, being the Leaders, Followers and Laggers. We found a significant difference between the various groups of respondents according to their scientific field, position, and region regarding the perception of the role played by their HEIs in influencing economic recovery after COVID-19. The position of the respondents contributed to their perception of the role that their HEIs participated in the process of the Great Reset, with the assistant professors perceiving the most often that their HEIs are Leaders. Additionally, the scientific field and region of the HEI also impacted their role in the Great Reset, with the HEIs from technology and countries outside of Europe being the Leaders most often. On the other hand, Followers and Laggers were equally from social sciences and other fields and European countries. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

SMALL business ,BUREAUCRACY ,PRIVATE sector ,CERTIFICATION ,REGULATORY compliance - Abstract
In today's business landscape, sustainability is imperative for all companies, including Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) operating in the food and beverage sector. Specifically, businesses in this sector in Indonesia face the imminent deadline of October 17, 2024, stipulated by Law Number 33 of 2014 concerning Halal Product Guarantees and its derivative regulations. Compliance with these regulations requires SMEs to obtain halal certification, failure of which could jeopardize their business continuity. Despite the significance of halal certification, the number of certified SMEs in Indonesia remains limited. This research endeavors to identify alternative solutions to encourage more SMEs to register their products for halal certification. Employing a qualitative research approach with Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA), the study involved seven informants, including representatives from SMEs, government officials, a Halal Auditor, and individuals from Sharia Banking. The findings underscore the necessity for comprehensive support to facilitate SMEs in obtaining halal certification. This includes streamlining bureaucratic processes, offering financial assistance, and providing human resources. Collaboration among the government, academic institutions, and the community is crucial in this regard. The study reveals that SMEs require assistance in navigating bureaucratic hurdles, financial support, and human resources. To expedite the halal certification process, it is essential for the government to enact regulations that simplify the certification requirements for SMEs, ensuring compliance without compromising consumer trust. Given the financial constraints faced by SMEs during the certification process, financial aid from the government, academic institutions, and the community is pivotal. Additionally, the provision of competent human resources poses a significant challenge for SMEs, necessitating collaborative efforts from the government, academic institutions, and the community to address this hurdle effectively. In conclusion, this research not only highlights the challenges faced by food and beverage SMEs in obtaining halal certification but also underscores the need for coordinated efforts to support these businesses in their sustainability endeavors. Business sustainability, also known as corporate maintainability, is the administration of natural, social, and monetary concerns by a company to guarantee mindful, moral and progressing victory. Conventional corporate culture and social and natural concerns are regularly considered to be in struggle with monetary objectives. An effort has been made to incorporate a wide range of needs for long-term business growth under the umbrella of sustainable business development. The idea seeks to balance essentially conflicting needs and objectives and is set within a conflicting framework of social, economic, and environmental challenges. Competitiveness can result from sustainable business growth if the related opportunities are recognized and exploited effectively. This study aims to identify the correlation between a company's orientation towards the implementation of sustainability assumptions, the extent to which corporate social responsibility (CSR) strategy objectives are implemented and the value generation within a sustainable organization. The findings show that the factors examined in the evaluated firms are positively related to each other. Sustainable entrepreneurs need a more comprehensive set of actions appropriate to produce value in a sustainable firm, including the achievement of social, environmental, and economic objectives. They also seek both economic and non-economic ideals. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study aims to analyze the sustainability and innovation of practices adopted by startups in the pet industry, from the perspective of the Ecological Modernization Theory (EMT). A multiple case study was conducted involving 25 Brazilian startups. Data collected from interviews with owners and managers of these organizations were evaluated through content analysis. The findings reveal that the practices of pet industry startups are partially aligned with the EMT. There is a significant presence of digitization and innovations in processes and products, as well as initiatives focused on recycling, waste reduction, and conscious consumption. The absence of public policies and strict regulatory standards are the main identified barriers that hinder the adoption of a sustainable strategic vision. The study bridges the EMT with organizational reality, uncovers opportunities for collaboration in open innovation, and presents practical actions for advancing sustainability in organizations. Sustainable development is crucial for the competitive advantage of industries. However, implementing this business model faces challenges that can impact its integration and compromise the adoption of actions to address environmental, social, and governance (ESG) issues that are of interest to stakeholders. To date, no in-depth study has presented the relationship between ESG issues and practical actions employed for sustainable development in companies within the Latin American context. Therefore, this article aims to evaluate the relationships between the main ESG issues and the actions applied to develop this theme in the Latin American industrial context, highlighting the main barriers, opportunities, and implications for this integration. As a methodology, a documentary analysis of 79 reports from Brazil, Peru, Mexico, Chile, Colombia, and Argentina was conducted using the content analysis method. This analysis highlighted central concerns such as climate change, water management, waste management, biodiversity, local communities, diversity, and inclusion. Additionally, a trend of ESG thematic dissemination was identified, which is in an early stage of maturity and lacks studies to quantify and diagnose the environmental impacts of Latin American industries. These findings directly impact the empirical evidence of how the Latin American industry is neglecting social issues, is still developing studies to quantify its environmental impacts, and strongly adheres to the concept and theme of ESG. The conclusions of this study highlight three main points: (i) From 2018 to 2022, 47% of material topics were related to at least one ESG pillar, with a predominance of the environmental dimension, (ii) there was a trend of increased adherence to ESG and improvements in the materiality of reports, and (iii) it is recommended to enhance indicators, accelerate the sustainable transition, and integrate ESG themes into supplier selection and workplace safety to strengthen sustainability practices in Latin American companies.

AbstractThis paper aims to develop a model of sustainable business for Islamic rural banks in Indonesia through the transformation of digital, corporate governance, and financial performance. To achieve this objective, the quantitative research method was used, and the population in this research is 165 Islamic rural banks in Indonesia, while the sample used in this research is 30 Islamic rural banks in the West Java region from 2016 to 2021. The data used in this study is secondary data derived from financial statements and annual reports and analyzed using Partial Least Square (PLS). The research findings highlighted first that digital transformation significantly influences sustainable business. Second, digital transformation significantly influences corporate governance, and third, digital transformation significantly influences financial performance. Fourth, corporate governance has an insignificant influence on sustainable business for Islamic rural banks in Indonesia. Fifth, financial performance significantly influences sustainable business for Islamic rural banks in Indonesia. Sixth, corporate governance does not mediate the effect of digital transformation on sustainable business for Islamic rural banks in Indonesia. Seventh, financial performance is able to mediate the effect of digital transformation on sustainable business for Islamic rural banks in Indonesia. The practical contribution of this study offers empirical evidence for Islamic rural institutions regarding the impact of digital transformation on the sustainability of Islamic rural banks in the context of the dynamic digital economy and technological industry. While the topic of banks’ digital transformation has garnered significant attention, the focus has primarily been on a macro level. The findings of this study show top management that digital transformation can potentially serve as a form of market value management. Additionally, this research might serve as a valuable resource for digital transformation organizations seeking to enhance their sustainability initiatives and expedite their progress in the realm of sustainable business practices, particularly for Islamic rural banks in Indonesia. Furthermore, the present study has demonstrated the importance and potential for digital transformation within the Islamic banking sector, hence offering a promising avenue for Islamic rural banks to enhance their operational efficiency and client satisfaction. Considering that limited attention has been given to studies of the relationship between digital transformation and sustainable business in Indonesian Islamic rural banks, this study contributes to the existing literature by examining digital transformation as a new view in explaining and understanding Indonesian Islamic rural banks, which fills the gap because prior research on the topic of digital transformation in Indonesia’s Islamic banking sector has mostly ignored management viewpoints on internal corporate governance processes.

In the last few decades, the connection between innovation and sustainable development has been brought to the surface due to the concerns of academics, scientists, and policymakers regarding environmental and social issues. Although numerous studies have discussed the significance of innovation in achieving corporate sustainable development (CSD), the relationship between these two concepts remains vague. Under this background, the aim of this study was to examine which types of innovation have a significant impact on CSD. In particular, four types of innovation were tested — incremental, radical, product, and process innovation — with the three dimensions of CSD: the social, environmental, and economic dimensions. The data collected from medium- and large-sized firms revealed that incremental, radical, and process innovation had a significant positive impact on CSD. These results have substantial theoretical and managerial implications, as they indicate what types of innovation managers should focus on in order to improve their sustainable business performance. - Abstract
China's rapid economic growth in recent years has raised concerns about resource utilization and environmental sustainability. This study aims to assess the efficiency landscape of China's sectors between 2015 and 2021 using data envelopment analysis (DEA) to identify areas for improvement and inform sustainable development strategies. The study findings shown that the average technical efficiency score across all sectors was 0.75, indicating room for improvement. Large efficiency variations were observed, with the manufacturing sector exhibiting the highest score (0.82) and the construction sector the lowest (0.68). Inefficiencies were largely attributable to excessive resource inputs, particularly in energy-intensive sectors. Sectors lagging in efficiency displayed higher environmental footprints, highlighting the negative externalities of inefficient resource utilization. Targeted interventions focusing on resource optimization, technological upgrades, and green infrastructure development are necessary to improve sectoral efficiency and promote sustainable development in China. - Abstract
The ability of management to influence employee attitudes and behaviours towards organizational goals is pivotal for an organization's competitiveness, development, and survival. The study's objective was to investigate the link between entrepreneurial leadership, competitive advantage, and manufacturing development, mediated by employees' innovative behaviour, via the lens of resource-based view theory. Convenience sampling was used to collect quantitative data from the 378 manufacturing sector employees through the use of a cross-sectional design. There is a lack of research on the underlying mechanisms by which leaders influence organizational processes, such as innovation stimulation. This study explores the psychological mechanisms influencing entrepreneurial leadership and employee innovative behaviour, revealing that entrepreneurial leadership reduces work uncertainty, encourages innovation, and significantly impacts a firm's competitive advantage in the market. The findings of the study revealed that entrepreneurial leadership fosters an encouraging and supportive environment in the workplace, which in turn leads to a sustainable competitive advantage. Additionally, the findings showed that innovative behaviour significantly mediates the relationship between entrepreneurial leadership and competitive advantage. By expanding the applicability of resource-based view theory, the results of this research also contribute to the comprehension of the interplay between innovative attitudes, manufactural development, competitive advantage, and leadership, specifically in the context of manufacturing sector organizations. Blockchain technology is a core technology expected to play a highly instrumental role in competing with socioenvironmental challenges. The literature hypothesizes various blockchain functions for building a sustainable business ecosystem. This study unifies these diverse perspectives into an interpretive strategy roadmap that provides a holistic overview of how blockchain should be leveraged to deliver sustainability functions optimally. The study first identified the sustainability functions of blockchain through a content‐centric literature review. The study applied interpretive structural modeling (ISM) and drew on experts' opinions to model how and in which order blockchain delivers these sustainability functions. The study further drew on the ISM output and interpretive logic‐knowledge base to develop the promised roadmap. Results revealed that blockchain promotes a decentralized decision system that facilitates automation and real‐time information sharing (RIS) across supply chains. Blockchain introduces traceability and transparency into supply chain operations. These conditions offer monitoring of business operations and the development of trust across value‐chain stakeholders. These driver functions lead to value chain optimization and circularity integration into business and supply chain operations. When these necessary functional conditions are met, businesses can further draw on blockchain to promote economic and environmental aspects of sustainability through more complex functions enabling resource efficiency, cost reduction, pollution prevention, and higher profit margins. The order in which businesses can leverage these functions would define blockchain sustainability performance. Each function is uniquely valuable to sustainability, and none of them can be overlooked. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Fashion, acknowledged as among the most polluting industries, is responsible for excessive production and consumption, necessitating a reevaluation and transformation of current strategies by adopting more sustainable ones. The emergence of fashion subscription services (FSSs) has the potential to mitigate the industry's unsustainability. However, it is empirically unknown whether FSSs contribute to sustainable consumption and, if so, how their slow adoption can be addressed. This research: (a) examined whether consumers who already use FSSs are more engaged in pro‐environmental behaviors (Study 1), and (b) developed and tested an adoption model with a strong underscore on the mediating role of psychological ownership (Study 2). The results revealed that those who subscribe to such services display sustainable consumption behaviors, and psychological ownership acted as a critical mediator facilitating service adoption intentions. This research offers empirical evidence to support the theoretical premise of the service's positive impact on environmental sustainability and a strategic direction to accelerate its market penetration. The Circular Economy (CE) transition toward sustainable business needs a fundamental change in business culture, production process and resource management. The business sector must understand their own capacity to overcome business challenges and put the CE concept as a long-term investment that requires continuous commitment. This research aims to analyze and evaluate the business transition to CE adoption to obtain a sustainable purpose. This qualitative research with narrative analysis method focuses on identifying corporate CE management transition that comprises innovation in business process, strategic integration, and transformation process. The socio-technical transition theory is used as a research framework to identify the technical aspects of CE implementation and further a deeper analysis of social dimension amidst the perspective of people's interaction. The data collection, analysis, and validation approach, which included FGD, semi-structured interviews and documentary analysis, examined the nuances of the actor-related strategies and institutional enabling processes of CE transition in the study case company. The research also gained valuable insight into seeing the internal dynamics of company management utilize their influence in managing resources aligned with CE principles through open innovation and people interaction. The outcome of this study showed that company's shift towards the circular business could be achieved through an organizational learning process, with particular attention to strengthening internal transformation by actively involving employees. The open innovation approach is an excellent way to utilize a collaborative culture by combining existing technologies that could drive innovation in the industry. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Since Serbia is an agricultural country with a significant share of agriculture in the domestic GDP, significant impact of agriculture on the environment, nutrition and health of people, the state has an undoubted interest in the good business operations of economic entities in agriculture, but also an obligation towards this sector of the economy. In the research of the period from 2020 to 2023, the authors came to the knowledge that domestic business entities need knowledge and financial incentives in order to constantly adapt to changes in the market caused by external influences. Since the state, as well as the owner of a business entity that performs agricultural activity, is interested in the continuity of business in the agricultural activity, the authors concluded that it is necessary to provide such a policy that will stimulate the existence of a safe shareholder/owner of economic entities, improve standards in this activity and enable sustainable, continuous operation of these economic entities in the long term. Considering the rising interest in environmental, social, and governance (ESG) globally, various studies have shown that ESG practice increases firm value; however, there is still much debate. This study focuses on the relationship between ESG practice and firm value. Further, we identify the mechanisms constituting this relationship to address relevant research gaps. Specifically, this study examines the connection between ESG practice and corporate valuation, emphasizing the mediating role of a company’s reputation. Using panel analysis of data from 145 Korean firms (2014-2021), the study reveals that ESG practices notably enhance firm value, signaling their significance to stakeholders. Corporate reputation acts as a bridge between ESG efforts and value, with corporate reputation's influence varying across industries. This research presents broad implications for both academic and industrial fields, highlighting the strategic importance of ESG in enhancing firm value.

Corruption is a plague with serious economic and social consequences and has a greater impact than people perceive. The impacts on business are severe but often underestimated. The aim of this paper is to analyze the influence of public governance environment on the strategical opportunistic use of related party transactions in family firms. Considering corruption as a good indicator of conditions that boost unethical behavior, the study investigates whether high standard of public governance quality at a regional level, as well as low corruption, helps to reduce specific types of opportunistic transactions. Based on a regression analysis on European‐listed family firms in Italy, France, and Germany, we find that high public governance quality at the regional level reduces companies' opportunistic transactions. The study addresses a gap in the literature, first, because it empirically shows a link between the quality of the context and some unethical business strategies, confirming that a negative context leaves room for opportunistic behaviors and that high standards in the public governance quality discourage firms' opportunistic behaviors through specific transactions and, second, because it focuses on family firms suggesting that a strong family power that controls strategy and decision‐making process, if operate in a bad public quality context, may be involved in opportunistic behaviors. Despite the ever-increasing climate change and the melting of glaciers, the activities of cruise companies remain a sensitive issue, as this type of tourism is one of the most polluting. However, cruise lines are trying to stay green. Climate change is the result of many factors, reflecting changes in the atmosphere, processes in other parts of the Earth - oceans, glaciers, and recently the effects of human activity. CO2 gas (carbon dioxide) is considered the main factor causing the greenhouse effect. Due to the increasing amount of CO2 in the atmosphere, the temperature is rising all over the Earth. Their excessive amount poses a threat to the survival of humanity - melting glaciers, rising ocean levels, and warming the climate. The problem - it is important to analyze whether cruise tourism responds to today's current issues regarding adherence to the green course, because climate change, excessive use of plastic, and ocean pollution are directly related to the vitality of the planet. The purpose of this article is to assess the direction of the green course of the cr uise ship company MSC, to establish the relevance of sustainable business in modern life. Objective - to evaluate the green course of the cruise ship company MSC. Research tasks: Present the directions of the green course in business; To analyze the activities of the cruise ship company MSC in relation to the green rate; To evaluate the cruise ship company MSC's green course activities. Strict requirements have triggered a surge in innovation that could soon result in climate-neutral cruises. Lack of awareness, attractive price, lack of information and attractiveness of amenities are the main reasons why travelers are still not concerned with sustainability. Many travelers are unaware of the impact of their travel choices, believing that ecology drives up prices and makes services more expensive, although this is not always the case. The more the green rate becomes relevant to consumers, the more the cruise lines will take into account the needs of consumers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
ESG reporting and disclosure enable financial performance by attracting revenues and optimizing managerial decisions. Within this landscape falls the present study that aimed to examine the quality of ESG reporting connected to the financial performance of listed companies. Stratified analysis revealed four groups of companies according to the average value of ROA and ROE indicators, as well as four classes according to the average ESG disclosure score. The analysis of GRI topics and materiality disclosure scores showed an average disclosure level on ESG components, located between a satisfactory and a good level of disclosure. Also, companies were found to be more inclined to disclose data on the sustainability strategy but provided poor and vague information on the business model. The results of comparative clustering analysis based on FinESG reporting and disclosure scores showed that 31.57% of companies maintained their position in the final ranking. Content analysis of sustainability reports by Leximancer, v.5.0 software highlighted that the most salient topic was "employees", and it revealed correlations between the themes "employees" and "emissions". The practical implications of the study were found in the promotion of an integrated reporting that best meets the needs of both stakeholders and those of environmental protection and the development of society. This study systematically reviews the scientific literature on the role of open innovation in addressing current and emerging societal and environmental challenges. To do so, we analysed the what, how, who and why of integrating external partners for sustainability purposes. We found a clear predominance of open innovation mechanisms to develop environmental innovations rather than innovations focused on a triple bottom line. We identified at least four mechanisms associated with the inbound mode of open innovation (crowdsourcing, lead‐user workshops, intermediation, and experiments and discussion sessions) and 10 mechanisms related to the coupled mode of open innovation (alliance, business‐non‐profit engagement, co‐creation, joint ventures, cooperation, collaborative innovation contests, coopetition, cross‐sector partnerships, joint development projects, and innovation networks). Even though sustainability‐oriented innovation promises to be a source of societal transformation and entrepreneurial opportunities, we found that firms can face some tensions when simultaneously addressing financial, environmental and social purposes. - Abstract
This research paper delves into the pivotal role of strategic integration of artificial intelligence (AI) concepts across sustainability efforts in for-profit businesses. As organizations are increasingly starting to rely on AI-driven solutions, this study examines the profound implications of AI integration for two critical facets: impact on data management in companies and diversification of human engagement during interactions in the digital ecosystem. The main goal of this research is to analyze the AI adoption index within a sample of 240 medium and large-sized companies (therefore excluding new companies, small startups, and low-scale AI applications). Firstly, the paper scrutinizes how AI technologies enhance data management by enabling efficient data collection, analysis, and utilization. It emphasizes the importance of AI-driven data analytics in improving decision-making processes, resource optimization, and overall operational efficiency for sustainable practices. Secondly, this research explores how AI-driven personalization, omnichannel interactions, and recommendation systems significantly impact user experiences, satisfaction, and loyalty, ultimately contributing to sustainable business growth. Findings show that there are three separate profiles of companies (low, moderate, and high), distinguished by AI adoption index and other important dimensions. Future research should focus on determining preconditions for successful planning of AI adoption index improvement, using a data-driven approach. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper explores the potential of social entrepreneurship education (SEE) as a means to foster sustainable businesses. SEE is defined as a pedagogical approach that aims to develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes of students to address social and environmental challenges through entrepreneurial solutions. The paper reviews the literature on SEE and its impact on students’ entrepreneurial intentions, behaviors and outcomes. It also presents a conceptual framework that links SEE to the dimensions of sustainability: economic, social and environmental. The paper argues that SEE can enhance students’ awareness of sustainability issues, stimulate their motivation to create positive change, and equip them with the tools and methods to design and implement sustainable business models. The paper concludes with some implications for policy and practice, as well as suggestions for future research.

The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) have become the leading international reference for achieving a more inclusive and sustainable model of development. Businesses play an important role in changing the existing model. Analysis of the engagement of businesses with the SDGs first requires knowledge of how managers perceive advances toward achieving these goals. This knowledge is missing from the academic literature. This paper proposes a synthetic indicator that captures company managers’ ratings of how well their companies are meeting the 17 SDGs. To create the synthetic indicator, the DP2 distance method was applied. Companies that most positively rate the degree of achievement of the SDGs belong to the agrifood sector.

Global economic, social and environmental change drivers have tremendous effects on the dynamic and nested business environment calling for a sustainability transition to a circular bioeconomy. The transition will pressurise established industries to alter their value creation logic to consider sustainability holistically. The study follows a case study research strategy and investigates how an established Finnish pulp and paper industry reconfigures its communicated value creation logic. The findings of a qualitative document analysis suggest that the pulp and paper industry has started to explore new sustainable path-breaking innovations and create a common development agenda, which has resulted in incremental adaptations in the value creation logic. However, the industry’s narrative of already being sustainable has hampered the reconfiguration and stabilisation of the adapted value creation logic. From a theoretical perspective, adopting an interdisciplinary and systemic perspective is necessary to understand the changing business environment. From a managerial perspective, cross-sectoral collaboration and including perspectives of different actors can help in creating a holistically sustainable value creation logic.

The organic vegetable business is a business that has high opportunities. The real conditions experienced during the Covid-19 pandemic harmed farmers who were also in the organic vegetable business, namely a 50 percent decrease in sales. A sustainable agricultural business depends on the entrepreneurial spirit possessed by agribusiness actors. This study aims to analyze the influence of entrepreneurial internal and external factors on the sustainability of the organic vegetable business with business performance as an intervening variable. This research was carried out from October to December 2022 in Batur Village, Getasan District. The type of research used in this research is descriptive quantitative, with primary and secondary data types. The sample used is 100 respondents, taken by nonprobability sampling with the purposive method. Data analysis techniques used by researchers are structural equation modeling (SEM) and partial least squares path modeling (PLS-SEM). The results of this research are entrepreneurial internal factors (X1) with p-value 0,003 and entrepreneurial external factors (X2) with p-value 0,000 have a significant and significant positive effect on the sustainability of the organic vegetable business (Y2). But entrepreneurial internal factors (X1) with p-value 0,117 and entrepreneurial external factors (X2) with p-value 0,122 have no significant effect on business sustainability (Y2) through business performance (Y1) as intervening variables. Therefore, if everyone improves business performance personally it will distrupt business performance in the group.

AbstractSocial Entrepreneurship (SE) practice has become one of the solutions to the economic and social problems of the community during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study examines the role of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Best Practice, which acts as a mediator in the influence of SE toward Sustainable Business Development (SBD). This study applied a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional survey. The samples are actors in Micro Small Enterprises (MSEs) applying SE principles in Semarang, Central Java province, Indonesia, with 142 people obtained by purposive sampling. The structural equation model was used to test the relationship between variables. The results of the analysis prove that SE has a significant effect on the implementation of CSR Best Practice and SBD. The application of CSR Best Practice for employees and consumers can mediate the influence of SE toward SBD. In contrast, CSR Best Practice for Society and the Environment cannot act as mediators. Implementing the CSR Best Practice and SE strategies can encourage and develop added value and strengthen MSEs to achieve a sustainable business. The study results recommend that SE through CSR Best Practices is urgently necessary to solve economic and social problems in the community after the COVID-19 pandemic.

Information and Communication Technologies for Development (ICT4D) emerges positively as a sustainable practice since several studies are focusing on these positive aspects, such as digital financial inclusion and digital platforms for helping communities. This study intends to investigate how a sustainable business value model (SBVM) might be framed in ICT4D from the perspective of business practices. We analyzed the literature of 160 publications in the ICT4D research field from 2003 to 2022 using social network and content analysis to perform a systematic literature review. The findings reveal six different business value perspectives to establish an SBVM in ICT4D initiatives, suggesting a broader perspective for innovators and entrepreneurs to create new business formations for better development outcomes in their communities. This paper contributes to socioeconomic development by identifying ways in which the SBVM may contribute to different communities' development in emergent countries. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Here, the role of business managers in Poland and Germany in creating responsible business was analyzed. The authors examined CSR strategies, challenges in balancing interests and integrating CSR principles with business practices. They emphasize the importance of education and the active involvement of managers in CSR strategies for the company's long-term benefits. The article uses three key research methods. The first is a review of the Polish and foreign literature, allowing for an understanding of the global context of CSR. The second method is the analysis of CSR reports from Poland and Germany, giving insight into practices and standards in these countries. The third method is research based on a questionnaire survey conducted in Poland and Germany, enabling a direct understanding of the attitudes and practices of managers. Polish companies lean towards sustainable purchasing and training more than their German counterparts, pointing to a nuanced approach to CSR in Poland. Meanwhile, German firms appear more invested in community and environmental programs, highlighting their particular emphasis on certain social and environmental dimensions of business. There is a clear commitment to CSR in both countries, but the varied nature of the initiatives suggests differing cultural or regulatory influences. Enhancing CSR awareness, particularly around sustainability education and emission reductions, emerges as a priority for both nations. The data indicate that managers are crucial in steering CSR practices, with their active involvement often leading to positive outcomes. The study provides an analysis of current CSR landscapes in Poland and Germany. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: Environmental impacts associated with the fashion industry concern society and require commitment to sustainable development goals from leading companies. The role of the luxury sector in setting trends and negotiating power within the supply chain can lead this industry towards sustainability. This study constructs a comprehensive operational flux inventory attributed to an Italian luxury garment brand, aiming to investigate and propose feasible strategies to reduce potential impacts coupled with their products. Methods: Under the operational control criteria, a whole year of activities was tracked using mainly primary data from its management system. According to ISO 14064–1:2019, potential greenhouse gas emissions were classified, organized, and processed into six categories. The analysis, at the company level, covered the product's complete life cycle, i.e., from cradle to the grave. The ecoinvent database considered preferentially local geography, and the cut-off system approach, therefore assigning emissions to the primary user. Results and discussion: Results showed that the only unit in central Italy where the headquarter is located (excluding retail stores), producing 485,193 women's clothing in a year, emitted 9804 t CO
2 eq. Most of these impacts (69% or 6752 t CO2 eq) can be associated with indirect emissions related to raw products and materials, and about 93% of this amount results from the high-quality products used by the company. Transportation represents 14% of the total emissions, while the use phase accounts for about 13%. As a final step, six different mitigation scenarios were proposed and analyzed by focusing on non-core production activities, i.e., upstream, and downstream operations, and consumers' habits. Once combined, these strategies can potentially reduce by about 25% the study case company overall emissions. Conclusions: As a conclusion, exploring possible alternatives through environmental assessment tools can support strategies for achieving impact reduction. While aggressive changes can be done in non-core activities with excellent results, changes perceived by the customers can also be well desired to mark innovation and advances in the business mindset.
