1. EECN: Analysis, Potency, Benefit for Students Knowledge and Attitude to Conserve Mangroves and Coral Reefs

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to measure student knowledge and attitudes in conservation of mangroves and coral reefs, introducing and applying Environmental Education Community Network (EECN) to students in wider scale. The method used in this research is a descriptive method and used a survey for gathering data. Samples were selected with simple random sampling in several schools and Jakarta State University. The results showed Average score of knowledge students from all levels were with low category. Average score of attitudes students from all levels were with high category. Students' knowledge was still low and attitudes in terms of mangroves and coral reefs were high. This result showed that students need a model that could enhance knowledge and attitude to conserve mangroves and coral reefs. EECN is one model that have the potential to empower students' knowledge and attitude in protecting the environment.

Abstract

Learning supplements are learning media supporting the material or the primary media used in the learning process. Today's 21st-century learning has to integrate technology and learning activities. This research aims to develop a digital educational comic learning supplement for Vocational High Schools (SMK). The subjects of this study were students of tenth grade from SMK Negeri 46 Jakarta. This type of research is development research, which is adopted from the Borg and Gall development model. The instruments used in this research include media validation sheets, teacher interviews, response questionnaires, and learning outcomes tests. Based on media trials in the field, the following results were obtained: 1) The media developed was feasible with an average media validation questionnaire by experts of 91.5%. 2) The results of the effectiveness test of the digital educational comic learning supplement developed on waste material can improve student learning outcomes. Abstract

The mangrove forest ecosystem has a significant contribution to the biota that live in the surrounding waters as a food source, one of which is the gastropod class. The purpose of this study is to determine mangrove density, gastropod abundance, and the correlation between mangrove density and gastropod abundance. This research was conducted in March to June 2022 in the Pulau Rambut Wildlife Reserve. The method used in this research is a survey method in the field by drawing a line 50 meters long, then dividing the line into three plots, measuring 10 x 10 meters with a distance between plots of 10 meters. In order to determine the sampling point to take gastropods is by using the purposive sampling technique was used. The data is categorized based on the variables. Mangrove density is variable X, and the abundance of gastropods is variable Y. The results showed that the mangrove density in the North, East, and Southwest of the Pulau Rambut Wildlife Reserve was included in the very good category with a value of 33,400 ind/ha. The highest abundance of gastropods was dominated by the species Aclis sp., with a total of 4,089 individuals, and the lowest was Monodonta sp. totaling six individuals. Mangrove substrate and organic matter content in the area determine the abundance of gastropods. The correlation between mangrove density and gastropod abundance was calculated using simple linear regression analysis with a correlation coefficient of 0.148, while the value of a determination coefficient was 0.022, which means it is positively correlated. Abstract

The aim of this study was to engage students in 21st century learning through the implementation of a Dilemma-Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) teaching model. The Dilemma-STEAM teaching model integrates dilemma stories with problem solving tasks to support students' thinking and problem solving using the STEAM approach. Qualitative research was employed in three schools involving 25 students in a primary school and 60 students in two junior high schools. The data were collected through semi-structured interviews, reflective journals, and classroom observations. The students discussed a dilemma story about energy and thematic data analysis found that they solved problems and construct their understanding of STEAM concepts such as environmental car, oven, and hydroelectric power plants using a range of different strategies. In solving the problems, the activities helped the students to develop the 21st century skills of critical and creative thinking, and collaboration and communication skills. Finally, a dilemma-STEAM model enabled a multidisciplinary approach to be used in conducting science lessons to provide meaningful learning experiences for students. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Micro-teaching is a teaching method currently used by many universities in Indonesia to provide real-world experiences and practice basic teaching skills. This method is able to provide optimal results when it is accompanied by observation, assessment, and optimal feedback to students. Observation, assessment, and feedback activities will run well if the adequate assessment instruments support them, meet the current demands, and are valid. This study aims to develop and validate an instrument for assessing basic teaching skills in implementing microteaching. The instrument was developed by adding skills in using technology in TPACK-based learning following the demands of teacher competence in the 21st century. This research is a development research which involves 53 students as samples. The instrument that has been developed can be used to implement online or offline microteaching. A total of 78 statement items were generated to assess eight basic teaching skills. Three validators carried out expert validation and stated that 92.4% of the instrument was feasible. The reliability test with Cronbach's alpha is 0.9 (very reliable). The item validity test resulted in 56 valid items, and for the evaluation survey, student responses as instrument users gave good results. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

31. Are self-confidence and curiosity in studying biology related to achievement motivation?

Abstract

In the 2013 curriculum students are required to be active in all learning activities. Through active learning that has been applied, students are expected to be able to explore deeper information about Biology material that has or has not been explained by the teacher. This attitude shows that students have curiosity which will then lead to self-confidence so that it encourages students to achieve good results. This study aims to determine the correlation between self-confidence in studying biology and curiosity (curiosity) with student achievement motivation. This research was conducted at SMAN 97 Jakarta in the even semester 2020/2021 academic year. The method used is a quantitative method through correlational studies. The sample used was 100 students taken from three classes of XI MIPA using simple random sampling technique. The data in this study were taken using three test instruments, namely: self-confidence test, curiosity test and student achievement motivation test. Most of the results obtained from the three tests are in the high category, with the percentage of confidence in studying biology by 62%, curiosity by 62% and student achievement motivation by 57%. Therefore, based on the results of the study, it was found that there was a positive correlation between self-confidence in studying biology and curiosity with student achievement motivation.AbstrakPada kurikulum 2013 siswa dituntut aktif dalam segala kegiatan pembelajaran. Melalui pembelajaran aktif yang sudah diterapkan, siswa diharapkan dapat mengeksplor informasi yang lebih dalam tentang materi Biologi yang telah ataupun belum dijelaskan oleh guru. Kompetisi Sains Nasional tingkat SD/MI (KSN-SD) dan atau yang sederajat telah dirintis sejak tahun 2003 merupakan salah satu wadah strategis untuk mewujudkan paradigma pendidikan yang mengedepankan peningkatan daya nalar, kreativitas, kemampuan berpikir kritis dan sadar terhadap lingkungan harus diaplikasikan dalam setiap langkah pengembangan ke depan. Oleh karena itu, perlu dilakukan suatu strategi pembinaan yang efektif dan efisien agar mampu mewujudkan paradigma pendidikan yang berimbas pada pembangunan nasional. Kegiatan pengabdian ini didasari kenyataan sangat minim keterwakilannya dalam KSN-SD tingkat nasional dari sekolah-sekolah Islam, pada umumnya kondisi seperti ini terjadi karena guru pembimbing sains masih memiliki keterbatasan dalam memahami silibus, karakteristik soal serta strategi pembinaan KSN-SD. Tujuan umum kegiatan ini adalah meningkatkan kemampuan guru dalam mendampingi siswa pada kegiatan dan pembinaan KSN-SD Di sekolah. Pelatihan ini menggunakan Metode experiential learning dengan pendekatan participant-centered melalui teknik case study, dan simulasi, dilanjutkan dengan proses pembuatan media pembelajaran sederhana. Target luaran yang dihasilkan adalah didapatinya kesepakatan kerjasama pembinaan KSN-SD bagi guru dan siswa antara sekolah terkait dengan prodi Biologi dan pendidikan Biologi FMIPA UNJ, peningkatan pemahaman dan pengetahuan guru-guru pembimbing Sains terkait Filosofi dan Silabus KSN-SD, peningkatan kemampuan pengorganisasian pembelajaran, penggunaan pendekatan dan metode pembelajaran dalam pembinaan dan pendampingan siswa peserta KSN-SD, pengenalan materi dan ketrampilan membuat soal setara soal-soal KSN-SD dan pada akhirnya terjadi peningkatan prestasi peserta KSN-SD.

Abstract

Low land Anoa is an endangered and endemic species to Sulawesi. The solitary, monogamous, wild and aggresive characteristic make them difficult to mate. The purpose of this study was to determine the sexual behaviour of young anoa pairs and mature anoa pairs at ABC. The study was conducted on 4 until 16 August 2017. Behavioural observation was done using animal focal sampling technique by recording the sexual behaviour that occur during the mating process of each pair. The results showed there are differences in sexual behaviour between the pairs of anoa. In the young anoa pairs, there were no attempted of mounting behaviour, penile erection, penile intromission.

Abstract

Anoa is an endemic species of Indonesia that is listed as endangered in the IUCN Redlist list and also included in the Appendix I CITES. Anoa’s reproduction have been constraint due to their natural behaviour. This animal is a solitary animal, monogamous, wild and aggressive, Incorrect mating time can lead the into a fight between the male and female. Information about the estrus cycle is very important in determining the optimal mating time for anoa. The study aim is to determine the estrus cycle of anoa based on behaviour and change in the vaginal epithelial cells. Behavioural data were observed by focal animal sampling technique to 3 female anoas in Anoa Breeding Center Manado during January-August 2017 at 07.00-17.00 CIT. Vaginal swabs cytology was done during July-August 2017 in the morning and afternoon by using terilized cotton swab and Giemsa stain. The vaginal swabs cytology techniques with Giemsa staining can be used to determine the changes in epithelial cells and confirm the estrus phase of anoa. Based on vaginal cytology the length of the estrus cycle of each individual anoa at the Anoa Breeding Center is different. At Manis the lengt of estrus cycle ranges 23 days, Rita 15 days, Denok 21 days and Ana is unidentified
