Abstract

The purpose of this research is to examine the determinants that impact employee job satisfaction in the manufacturing industry of Malaysia in the midst of technological progress and economic changes that have been further complicated by the COVID-19 pandemic. The study utilizes the Delphi method to ascertain and rank workplace factors that influence job satisfaction. By employing a qualitative Delphi approach, the study amasses expert consensus in order to investigate the complex dimensions of job satisfaction within the manufacturing sector. The study solicits input from industry experts via two rounds of surveys in order to evaluate the significance of a variety of working environment factors. The analysis is guided by theoretical frameworks, including Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs and Herzberg’s Two-Factor Theory. In descending order of importance, industry experts agreed that compensation and benefits are the most significant determinant of employee job satisfaction, followed by support for work-life balance, rewards and recognition, organizational support, and opportunities for career growth and development. This research contributes to the body of knowledge on job satisfaction by utilizing the Delphi method, which is an innovative approach in this particular domain, to obtain expert consensus regarding the factors that influence job satisfaction in the manufacturing industry. This approach overcomes the constraints of quantitative methodologies by offering comprehensive analyses of the qualitative dimensions of employee satisfaction. In addition, the study provides policymakers and industry stakeholders with actionable suggestions, underscoring the importance of implementing comprehensive approaches to improve job satisfaction.

Abstract

This objective of this study was to examine the effects of communication, training and development, and transformational leadership on employee engagement during COVID-19 in Malaysia. Four hundred individuals were recruited, and data were analyzed using partial least square structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM). Communication, training and development, and transformational leadership were found to positively affect employee engagement. In the midst of the COVID-19 outbreak, this study investigated the aforementioned factors as part of the reciprocal process between the employee and the employer and their effects on employee engagement, thereby making original theoretical contributions. This study also provides vital insights for businesses to consider when designing effective employee engagement plans for future well-being in the workplace.

Abstract

Employee performance plays a crucial role in the productivity of organizations, especially in the hospitality industry in Malaysia. This work performance is influenced by leadership style, and finding the type of leadership style that is suitable to apply to employees is crucial, especially in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. Transformational leadership theory is selected for this study in determining leadership styles. There are four dimensions under transformational leadership theory, namely idealized influence, individualized consideration, inspirational motivation and intellectual stimulation. Data were collected online from 400 employees working in the hospitality industry in Malaysia and analyzed using partial least square structure equation modeling (PLS-SEM). The findings show that only two dimensions of transformational leadership, namely idealized influence and inspirational motivation, have a significant positive influence on employee performance. Implications in the context of human resource management and recommendations to increase employee performance are also discussed.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the effects of work-life balance, work environment, and reward and compensation on employee retention in Malaysia. A total of 400 questionnaires were collected online from employees within the service industry in Malaysia. Partial least square structure equation modeling was used to test the model and hypotheses. The results reveal that work-life balance and work environment had a strong positive effect on employee retention, but reward and compensation had a much stronger positive effect on employee retention. This research provides unique theoretical contributions by investigating these factors in the midst of the COVID-19 outbreak as components of the reciprocal process between employee and employer, and their effects on employee retention. This study also provides vital insights to business organizations to consider designing effective employee retention plans for a successful business.

Abstract

COVID-19 in Malaysia has significantly affected the higher education system of the country and increased the level of distress among university students. Empirical evidence proposed that environment quality is associated with university students’ life satisfaction during COVID-19. It was found that hope and optimism are linked with greater life satisfaction in general. Although past literature has reported the effects of hope and optimism on life satisfaction, there are limited studies examining the underlying mechanism among Malaysian private university students. Therefore, the current study offers the preliminary understanding of the intervening role of hope and optimism on the relationship between environmental quality and life satisfaction among private university students in Malaysia. A total of 133 private university students in Malaysia were recruited through homogenous convenience sampling. Partial least square structure equation modeling (SmartPLS) was used to analyze the mediation models. The results revealed that only hope mediated the relationship between environmental quality and life satisfaction, but not optimism. Hence, it is proposed that mental health providers should focus on providing hope-related interventions to university students in confronting COVID-19 challenges and ultimately improving life satisfaction.

Abstract

Konsep percaya merupakan satu istilah yang merujuk kepada perspektif sosio-budaya yang dikaitkan dengan satu konsep perhubungan yang membekalkan keselamatan, harmoni, dan kebajikan terhadap individu, pasangan, ahli keluarga dan komuniti secara keseluruhannya.Tujuan kajian ini adalah untuk mengenal pasti definisi percaya terhadap pasangan yang mana ianya berfokus kepada perhubungan dalam perkahwinan. Kajian ini melibatkan seramai 17 orang subjek lelaki dan perempuan yang telah berkahwin bagi tempoh kurang daripada 10 tahun. Rekabentuk kajian ini adalah menggunakan metod Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) yang membolehkan penyelidik untuk mengkaji pengalaman sebenar subjek kajian berkaitan isu yang dikaji. Penyelidik telah menjalankan sesi temubual secara mendalam kepada semua subjek kajian bagi mendapatkan data. Analisis data dijalankan mengikut metod IPA daripada Smith, Flowers, & Larkin (2010). Keputusan kajian telah menghasilkan lima (5) tema berkaitan dengan definisi percaya terhadap pasangan dalam perhubungan iaitu 1) Kebebasan, 2) Keyakinan, 3) Harapan 4) Komunikasi dan 5) Ikatan Sosial. Limitasi kajian serta cadangan untuk kajian akan datang turut dinyatakan.

Abstract

Kajian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji persepsi terhadap faktor pencetus kecurangan (kecurangan fizikal dan emosi) pasangan mengikut jantina. Seramai 695 orang yang terdiri daripada pekerja dan pelajar prasiswazah di salah sebuah universiti awam di Malaysia telah dijadikan responden kajian. Responden dikehendaki melengkapkan satu set soalan terbuka untuk mendapatkan maklumat mengenai faktor pencetus kecurangan. Hasil kajian ini menunjukkan terdapat enam tema utama yang menjadi persepsi faktor pencetus kecurangan terhadap pasangan bagi lelaki dan tujuh tema utama bagi perempuan. Faktor komunikasi dipersepsikan sebagai faktor utama pencetus kecurangan. Terdapat tiga sub tema dalam faktor komunikasi iaitu ketiadaan persefahaman bagi kedua-dua jantina dan tambahan sub tema salah faham dan sentiasa bergaduh antara pasangan bagi perempuan. Data telah dianalisis dengan menggunakan pendekatan indigenous psychology melalui pengkategorian, pengkodan terbuka dan pengkodan paksi. Implikasi penemuan dibincangkan dan hala tuju untuk kajian akan datang dinyatakan.

10. Strategi daya tindak remaja terhadap kebimbangan yang dihadapi dan pengaruhnya ke atas masalah kemurungan

Abstract

Kajian ini bertujuan untuk meneliti bentuk strategi daya tindak yang digunakan oleh remaja khususnya pelajar sekolah menengah di sekitar Kota Kinabalu, Sabah apabila menghadapi kebimbangan terhadap pelajaran dan melihat pengaruhnya ke atas masalah kemurungan. Secara khususnya, kajian ini dilakukan untuk mengkaji perbezaan strategi daya tindak, kebimbangan terhadap pelajaran dan masalah kemurungan yang dihadapi berdasarkan kepada gender dan tahap pendidikan pelajar. Selain itu, kajian ini cuba melihat peranan strategi daya tindak keseluruhan serta aspek-aspeknya sebagai moderator dalam hubungan kebimbangan terhadap pelajaran dengan masalah kemurungan. Reka bentuk kajian yang digunakan ialah reka bentuk tinjauan. Seramai 1188 orang remaja yang berumur antara 13 hingga 19 tahun yang terdiri daripada pelajar di 13 buah sekolah menengah di sekitar Kota Kinabalu telah dijadikan subjek kajian. Alat kajian Adolescent Coping Scale (ACS) telah digunakan bagi mengukur strategi daya tindak dan alat kajian Beck Depression Index-II (SDI-II) digunakan untuk mengukur tahap kemurungan ramaja. Data yang diperolehi telah dianalisis menggunakan ujian statistik deskrpitif yang merangkumi kekerapan, peratusan, min dan sisihan piawai. Sementara analisis inferensi pula melibatkan Ujian-t sampel bebas, dan Regresi mudah dan Regresi pelbagai. Keputusan yang diperolehi menunjukkan terdapat pengaruh kebimbangan terhadap pelajaran ke atas penggunaan strategi daya tindak keseluruhan dan aspek-aspeknya. Dapatan kajian juga menunjukkan strategi daya tindak keseluruhan serta aspek-aspeknya gagal untuk menjadi moderator dalam hubungan antara kebimbangan terhadap pelajaran dengan masalah kemurungan dalam kalangan remaja. Sehubungan dengan keputusan kajian yang diperolehi, beberapa implikasi dan cadangan turut dikemukakan.
