Aim: To synthesise evidence related to medical adhesive tapes and supplementary securement products for peripheral intravenous catheters in adults, to prevent complications and device failure. Design: Integrative review informed by Whittemore and Knafl and reported in accordance with the PRISMA 2020 statement. Data sources. The Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, US National Library of Medicine National Institutes of Health, EMBASE/MEDLINE and Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health were searched from 2000–21 September 2020. Review Methods. Studies enrolling hospitalised participants >16 years with peripheral intravenous catheters secured by medical adhesive tapes, or supplementary products (bandage, splint and sutureless securement device), were eligible. Quality appraisal was performed using Critical Appraisal Skills Program checklists. Results: Nineteen studies met criteria, including 43,683 peripheral intravenous catheters. Quality appraisal identified high or unclear risk of bias in 58% of studies. Nonsterile tape was the most common intervention tested (14 studies), alone or in multiproduct combinations. Nonsterile tape directly over insertion sites was associated with increased PIVC failure and complications. Sutureless securement devices potentially reduce failure and complications. Multiproduct combinations were very common. Practice recommendations regarding other tapes and secondary securement products are challenging, due to conflicting, or lack of, evidence. Conclusion: Tapes and secondary securement product evidence are limited, and over half of the studies are of low methodological quality. This review found nonsterile tape was associated with increased failure and complications; multiproduct dressing and securement bundles were prevalent; and significant evidence gaps exist particularly regarding bandages and splints. The results provide nurses with evidence of medical adhesive tapes and supplementary product effectiveness for peripheral intravenous catheter securement, and future research directions to reduce unacceptably high failure and complication rates. ABSTRACT: In broiler breeder production, up to 2% of hatching eggs are rejected because of cracked or broken shells. Eggs with cracks give a reduced hatchability and a lower chick quality and cause economic loss. The main goal of this study was to determine the effect of sealing eggshell cracks with surgical tape on hatching parameters. A total of 3,000 eggs from a 34 weeks old Cobb 500 broiler breeder flock was used in the experiment. Six hundred intact eggs represented a positive control. Other eggs were artificially cracked by the operator either on the first day of storage (1,200 eggs) or on the fourth day of storage (1,200 eggs). In both groups, cracks on 600 eggs were sealed by the adhesive surgical tape while the other 600 eggs remained untreated and were used as a negative control. Within each experimental group, eggs were assigned randomly to 4 setter trays representing 4 replicates of 150 eggs. The egg weight loss during incubation was the highest (P < 0.01) in groups of nonsealed cracked eggs. The egg weight loss in sealed groups was higher compared to the control group (P < 0.01). Percentage of egg contamination was not different between groups. Embryonic mortality was higher in non-sealed groups in all stages of embryonic development (P < 0.01) compared to groups of sealed cracked eggs and the control group. Hatching percentage was significantly lower in non-sealed groups (P < 0.01) compared to sealed groups and positive control. No significant difference in hatching parameters was observed between sealed groups and positive control, indicating that surgical tape can be used for sealing cracks on the eggshell to support embryonic survival.

Objectives: Currently, there are various surgical options for the treatment of lateral ankle sprains, and deciding which surgical option to use is a question worth considering. Furthermore, there is a relative scarcity of mechanical research comparing suture anchor repair (SAR) and suture tape augmentation (STA) internal brace for the repair of the anterior talofibular ligament (ATFL). Therefore, this study aimed to compare the efficacy of arthroscopically all-inside ATFL SAR and STA for reconstruction to treat lateral ankle sprains through biomechanical testing., Methods: Eighteen fresh-frozen cadaver ankles were used for the study and divided into one of three groups: (1) intact ATFL group, (2) arthroscopically reconstructed with suture tape augmentation internal brace of the ATFL (STA group), and (3) arthroscopically repaired ATFL with suture anchors (SAR group). We used custom fixtures to test the specimens for loading to ultimate failure and stiffness., Results: The mean load to failure of the STA group (311.20 ± 52.56 N) was significantly higher than that of the intact ATFL group (157.37 ± 63.87 N; p = 0.0016) and the SAR group (165.27 ± 66.81 N; p = 0.0025). The mean stiffness of the STA group (30.10 ± 5.10 N/mm) was significantly higher than that of the intact ATFL (14.17 ± 6.35 N/mm; p = 0.0012) and the SAR group (15.15 ± 6.89 N/mm; p = 0.0021). The suture anchor repair withstood failure loads and stiffness similar to the intact ATFL., Conclusions: In terms of failure load and stiffness, the reconstructive outcome of ATFL reconstruction with STA is markedly superior to that of SAR reconstruction of the ATFL and the intact ATFL. Surgical augmentation methods have been introduced to the Modified Broström (MB) technique to support native anterior talo-fibular ligament (ATFL) healing and function. This study aimed to investigate the isolated biomechanical performance of common MB augmentation elements, including allograft, suture tape, and copolymer, compared to native ATFL. Six cadaveric feet were dissected, isolating the ATFL from all surrounding soft tissue. The fibula and talus were clamped on the testing frame so that the ligament was in line with the load cell. Six samples per augment group were fixed on a test frame with a gauge length of 20 mm to replicate ATFL length. All samples were pulled to failure at 305 mm/min. Biomechanical outcomes included stiffness, elongation, and ultimate load. Mean ± standard deviation was reported. Stiffness was highest for suture tape (246.4 ± 52.1N/mm), followed by allograft (114.2 ± 26.2 N/mm), native ATFL (78.6 ± 31.8 N/mm), and copolymer (9.4 ± 2.9 N/mm). Significant differences in stiffness were observed between all groups except when comparing ATFL stiffness to allograft (P = 0.086). Copolymer resulted in significantly larger elongation at ultimate load compared to native ATFL, suture tape, and allograft (P < 0.001). Elongation at ultimate failure was highest for copolymer (30.0 ± 8.7 mm) and significantly greater than all other groups (P < 0.001). Ultimate load was highest for suture tape (544.1 ± 59.7 N), followed by native ATFL (338.5 ± 63.7 N), allograft (308.3 ± 98.5 N) and copolymer (146.7 ± 8.9 N). Suture tape ultimate load was significantly greater than copolymer (P < 0.001). Ankle sprains are common musculoskeletal injuries which can develop into residual chronic lateral ankle instability. When non-surgical treatments fail, surgical intervention is often indicated. We performed a systematic review of the literature comparing outcome measures of modified Broström repair to suture tape augmentation for lateral ankle stabilization. All studies available in PubMed up to July 2023 were screened. Three randomized controlled trials involving 235 patients met inclusion criteria. All the studies reported on Foot and Ankle Ability Measure, two of the three studies found higher postoperative Sports Activity scores in the suture tape group. Two of the studies reported Foot and Ankle Outcome Score, neither were found to be significantly different. The third study analyzed return to pre-injury level of activity between the two surgical techniques and found a faster return to activity for suture tape compared to modified Broström procedure. Pressure-sensitive adhesives are widely utilized due to their instant and reversible adhesion to various dry substrates. Though offering intuitive and robust attachment of medical devices on skin, currently available clinical pressure-sensitive adhesives do not attach to internal organs, mainly due to the presence of interfacial water on the tissue surface that acts as a barrier to adhesion. In this work, a pressure-sensitive, repositionable bioadhesive (PSB) that adheres to internal organs by synergistically combining the characteristic viscoelastic properties of pressure-sensitive adhesives and the interfacial behavior of hydrogel bioadhesives, is introduced. Composed of a viscoelastic copolymer, the PSB absorbs interfacial water to enable instant adhesion on wet internal organs, such as the heart and lungs, and removal after use without causing any tissue damage. Introduction: According to current clinical practice, a minimum of 7 knots are required to provide secure hold in high-strength sutures. A new technology featuring a suture tape with a salt-infused silicon core has been recently developed, potentially reducing the number of needed knots., Aims: to (1) assess the influence of number of knots on tape security, (2) evaluate the effect of different ambient conditions on knot security, and (3) compare the biomechanical competence of the novel versus a conventional suture tape., Materials and Methods: A conventional suture tape (ST, SutureTape tm ) was considered for knot tying together with the novel suture type (DT, Dynatape tm ). Specimens were assigned to receive different number of knots, ranging from 3 to 7, and to be exposed to different media during tying-air (dry), saline solution (wet), and fat (fatty-wet). Seven specimens were considered for each suture type, knot number and ambient condition. With knotted sutures mounted between two roller bearings, quasi-static tensile ramp tests were performed to evaluate knot slippage, ultimate force at rupture, and minimum number of knots preventing suture unraveling for each suture tape and condition., Results: Whereas the ST ruptured without unraveling with a minimum of 6 knots in all specimens and ambient conditions, the minimum number of knots for a DT rupture without unraveling was 6 in dry, 4 in wet, and 5 in fatty-wet condition. Ultimate force at rupture with a minimum number of needed knots did not differ significantly between ST and DT (p ≥ 0.067), in contrast to knot slippage that was significantly bigger for ST versus DT in wet and fatty-wet conditions(p ≤ 0.001)., Conclusions: In fatty-wet conditions-related to open surgery-the novel Dynatape tm suture tape requires 5 instead of 7 knots to achieve their security. In wet conditions-related to arthroscopic surgery-this number can be reduced to 4 knots. Introduction: Recent advancements in surgical techniques have led to renewed interest in ACL repair, particularly for acute, proximal tears. Suture tape augmentation (STA) has emerged as a promising technique to support ACL healing while preserving native tissue and potentially improving outcomes. This study aims to evaluate the outcomes of ACL repair with STA in patients with acute, proximal ACL tears., Methods: We retrospectively reviewed patients who underwent ACL repair with STA between June 2018 and October 2020. Inclusion criteria were acute (< 6 weeks) ACL rupture, Sherman type I tears, and minimum follow-up of 3 years. Exclusion criteria included mid-substance or distal ACL tears and previous knee surgeries. Clinical evaluation involved stability tests, PROMs, and gait analysis using Prokin WalkerView. Second-look arthroscopy and histological analysis were conducted on a subset of patients., Results: Twelve consecutive patients (7 males and 5 females) with a mean age of 27.4 ± 7.9 years and mean BMI of 23.3 ± 1.6 kg/m 2  were included. Time to operation was 19.5 ± 8.7 days. Mean follow-up duration was 53.2 ± 9.4 months. One patient experienced a traumatic re-rupture. One had a contralateral ACL tear and one experienced hardware irritation. Clinical tests were negative for instability in all patients. Post-operative IKDC, Lysholm, and FJS-12 scores showed significant improvement (p < 0.001). All patients (100%) achieved minimal clinically important difference for all PROMs. Walking gait analysis revealed high symmetry indices for range of motion (93.50%) and step length (95.80%) with near symmetrical loading. Second-look arthroscopy showed intact repairs with healthy tissue morphology and integration. Histology revealed increased cellularity, high nuclear density, and preservation of vascular and neural components indicated by CD34 and S-100 markers., Conclusions: Arthroscopic ACL repair with STA provides favourable clinical, functional, and histological outcomes with low re-rupture rates when performed on acute, proximal ACL tears. Thumb carpometacarpal arthritis is common with aging, more common in women than men, and usually occurs after age 40. If a patient fails conservative treatments such as splinting, medications, and corticosteroid injections, then surgical intervention may be appropriate. Currently, there is no consensus on the best surgical treatment. By limiting metacarpal subsidence, ligament suspensionplasty with suture tape augmentation offers great pain relief, excellent functional outcomes, and limited postoperative immobilization. With this technique, trapeziectomy is first performed. A portion of the abductor pollicis longus tendon is resected and loaded onto the SwiveLock anchor using 4-0 FiberLoop, in addition to suture tape. The prepared graft and tape construct is anchored into the lateral first metacarpal (MC) base and index metacarpal base. After surgery, patients are put in a short arm thumb spica splint, interphalangeal (IP) joints free. Active motion is initiated at the first postoperative visit, usually within 1 week. All patients who had thumb arthritis treated with carpometacarpal suspensionplasty and suture tape augmentation between 2015 and 2022 by a single hand surgeon at our institution were queried. A total of 110 patients were invited to take part in this study, and 61 patients consented and were included in this study. Mean last in-office follow up was at 7.5±4.0 months, which showed significant improvements in pinch strength ( P =0.011). Purpose: Recently, a new dynamic high-strength suture (DC) was introduced, also available in tape form (DT), featuring a salt-infused silicone core attracting water in a fluid environment to preserve tissue approximation. The aims of this study were to (1) assess the influence of securing throw number on knot security of two double-stranded knot configurations (Cow-hitch and Nice-knot) tied with either dynamic (DC and DT) or conventional (FW and ST) high-strength sutures and tapes, and (2) compare the ultimate force and knot slippage of the novel dynamic versus conventional sutures and tapes when used with their minimal number of needed securing throws., Methods: Seven specimens of each FW, ST, DC and DT were considered for tying with Cow-hitch or Nice-knots. The base of these Cow-hitch and Nice-knots was secured with surgeons` knots using 1-3 alternating throws. Tensile tests were conducted under physiologic conditions to evaluate knot slippage, ultimate force at rupture, and minimum number of throws ensuring 100% knot security.  RESULTS:  For both Cow-hitch and Nice-knots, 100% security was achieved with 2 securing throws for DC, DT, ST, and with 3 securing throws for FW. With these minimum numbers of securing throws, ultimate force was significantly higher for Nice-knots versus Cow-hitch tied with DT (p = 0.001) and slippage was significantly less with Nice-knots versus Cow-hitch tied with DC (p = 0.019)., Conclusions: The minimum number of securing throws required to achieve 100% security was 2 with DC, DT and ST for both Cow-hitch and Nice-knots configurations, in contrast to FW where 3 securing throws were needed. Introduction: This study evaluated patient-reported outcome measures and reinjury rates in higher-risk adolescents and young adults aged 14-25 years old following Anterior Cruciate Ligament reconstruction using autograft with suture tape augmentation (SA ACLR)., Materials and Methods: We performed a retrospective case series of patients aged 14-25 who underwent SA ACLR by a single surgeon between 2016 and 2020. After a minimum of 2 years of follow-up, data was collected on reinjury and patient reported outcome measures, including Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score (KOOS), Marx Activity Rating Scale (MARS), Single Assessment Numeric Evaluation (SANE), and Visual Analog Pain Scale (VAPS)., Results: 27 patients were identified. 4 were lost to follow-up, and 23 met inclusion criteria (11 male, 12 female). Average age was 20, and average follow-up was 2.5 years. Failure rate was 8.7%, with two patients requiring revision ACL reconstruction. One patient required two additional meniscal operations with intraoperative findings demonstrating maintenance of an intact ACL. Postoperative patient-reported outcomes measures (PROMs) were obtained for the patients who did not require additional surgery (n = 20), and preoperative PROMs were available for 16 of these patients. Postoperatively, patients reported a mean VAPS of 0.74 ± 1.27, MARS of 8.05 ± 5.58, and SANE of 83.05 ± 16.47. Mean KOOS was 86.92 ± 11.77 with subscores Pain of 86.94 ± 12.94, Symptoms of 82.16 ± 14.96, ADL of 95.81 ± 8.10, Sport of 75.61 ± 21.52, and QOL of 70.64 ± 22.04. Paired t-tests demonstrated significant improvements in VAPS, SANE, and KOOS outcomes following surgery. Patients were significantly less active postoperatively as reported by the MARS. A multivariable regression analysis showed that increased age predicted poorer postoperative KOOS Pain outcomes, and female sex predicted inferior KOOS Pain and Sport outcomes., Conclusion: SA ACLR is a safe and effective surgical technique in the high failure risk young adult demographic, with a low reinjury rate and acceptable KOOS scores. Patients were active with minimal pain at minimum two years of follow-up. Purpose: To assess the outcomes of medial patellofemoral ligament (MPFL) reconstruction using synthetic suture tape in paediatric patients with patellofemoral instability (PFI)., Methods: This ambispective comparative study, conducted from 2014 to 2022, included paediatric patients who underwent MPFL reconstruction with synthetic suture tape and had a minimum follow-up of 1 year. Pre- and postoperative clinical and functional outcomes, patient satisfaction and complications were assessed., Results: The study comprised 22 patients (29 knees), with a median age at surgery of 14.4 years (interquartile range [IQR] 10.9-16.7) and a median follow-up of 46.5 months (24.7-66). Notably, 13 knees (44.8%) had open growth plates at the time of surgery. The cohort included patients with Down syndrome (3 patients), Ehlers-Danlos (2), arthrogryposis (1), generalized joint hypermobility (8) and previous unsuccessful PFI surgeries (8). Concomitant procedures were performed on 16 knees. Postoperatively, improvements were observed in all but one patient, who reported residual pain. There were two other complications: one suture-tape rupture and one surgical wound infection. Functional scores significantly improved: Kujala, +14 points (7-29) (p < 0.001); IKDC, +10.5 points (5.2-25.3) (p < 0.001); Tegner, +2 points (0-4) (p < 0.001); Lysholm, +15 points (0-37.5) (p < 0.001). Most patients achieved excellent outcomes by Crosby-Insall criteria (21 patients, 72.4%) and reported high satisfaction (23 patients, 79.3%)., Conclusions: MPFL reconstruction using synthetic suture tape is a viable and effective treatment for paediatric patients with PFI, particularly for those with connective tissue disorders, generalized joint hypermobility or past surgical failures, significantly enhancing clinical and functional outcomes with an acceptable complication rate., Level of Evidence: Level IV., (© 2024 European Society of Sports Traumatology, Knee Surgery and Arthroscopy.)

Background: : Medical adhesive-related skin injury can occur during health care. Professionals must adopt preventive measures to maintain the integrity of the skin and patient comfort and safety. Objective: : To map the existing scientific evidence on preventing medical adhesive-related skin injury in adults. Design: : Scoping Review. Methods: : Searches were conducted in PubMed/Medline, Cochrane Library, Embase®, Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences, Cumulative Index for Nursing and Allied Health Literature, and Google Scholar, without period delimitation. Duplicate studies and those that didn´t answer the research question were excluded. Results: : Of the 209 studies identified in the search process, 30 made up the final sample. The prevention of injury by adhesives mainly involves identifying risk factors, proper adhesive selection, and correct application and removal. Health education and medical records about injuries related to medical adhesives are essential. Conclusions: : The prevention of medical adhesive-related skin injury should be done by adopting multifactorial measures, which range from identifying risk factors and correct handling of adhesives to the process of educating professionals, patients and communities about these injuries. Background: Medical adhesives are used to affix components to the skin. They are part of procedures performed by medical specialties because of their participation as constituents of different products, such as tapes, dressings, and electrodes. Aim: This study aims to assess the prevalence of, and factors associated with, the development of medical adhesive‐related skin injuries (MARSIs) in patients treated with medical tapes in the neonatology department of a large teaching hospital in Brazil. Study Design: Cohort study. Methods: All premature newborns (gestational age from 28 to <37 weeks) admitted in the neonatal intensive care unit of a teaching hospital, from March to August 2019, were followed up. Neonate skin condition was assessed based on the Neonatal Skin Condition Scale (NSCS). Data analyses were conducted in R software. Results: In total, 46 premature newborns were included in the study; 552 evaluations were performed—mean of 11.7 per patient. Most neonates (n = 41; 89.1%) used adhesive tapes, either paper tape (n = 37; 80.4%) or transparent film dressing (n = 34; 73.9%). Newborns' face and head were the most affected body regions (n = 125; 50.2%). Eight patients had MARSIs (19.5% of patients who used tape). NSCS scores (P value <.001) and the adopted warming system (P value =.01302) were associated with the occurrence of MARSIs. Incubators seem to be a protective factor for MARSI (OR = 0.048; IC95% = 0.0008‐0.75; P value =.013). Conclusion: Adhesive tapes in premature newborns should be considered a risk factor for injuries. Although NSCS showed mild‐to‐moderate impairment and lesion severity was low, this event is relatively frequent in neonatal units. Relevance to Clinical Practice: Awareness of the risk associated with adhesive tape application and removal in newborns allow health services to better address the problem by enforcing good practices, elaborating better protocols, qualifying the health care professionals, and potentially selecting softer tapes for neonates. BackgroundEndotracheal tube security is a critical safety issue. We compared the mobility of an in situ endotracheal tube secured with adhesive tape to the one secured with a new commercially available purpose-designed endotracheal tube-holder device (Haider Tube-Guard). We also observed for the incidence of oropharyngeal or facial trauma associated with the 2 tube fixation methods.MethodsThirty adult patients undergoing general anesthesia with neuromuscular blockade were prospectively enrolled. Immediately after intubation, a single study author positioned the endotracheal tube tip in the distal trachea using a bronchoscope. Anesthesiologists caring for patients secured the tube in their normal fashion (always with adhesive tape). A force transducer was used to apply linear force, increasing to 15 N or until the principal investigator deemed that the force be aborted for safety reasons. The displacement of the endotracheal tube was measured with the bronchoscope. Any tape was then removed and the endotracheal tube secured with the Haider Tube-Guard device. The linear force was reapplied and the displacement of the endotracheal tube measured. The Haider Tube-Guard device was left in place for the duration of the case. The patient's face and oropharynx were examined for any evidence of trauma during surgery and in the recovery room. On discharge from the postanesthesia care unit, the patient answered a brief survey assessing for any subjective evidence of minor facial or oropharyngeal trauma.ResultsUnder standardized tension, the endotracheal tube withdrew a mean distance of 3.4 cm when secured with adhesive tape versus 0.3 cm when secured with the Haider Tube-Guard (P 1 cm) when adhesive tape was used to secure the tube versus 3% (1/30) when the Haider Tube-Guard was used (P 4 cm) when the endotracheal tube was secured with tape versus 0% (0/30) when secured with the Haider Tube-Guard (P = 0.004). Six patients with taped endotracheal tubes required the traction to be aborted before 15 N of force was achieved to prevent potential extubation as the tape either separated from the face or stretched to allow excessive endotracheal tube movement. None of the patients appeared to sustain any injury from the Haider Tube-Guard device.ConclusionsThe Haider Tube-Guard significantly reduced the mobility of the endotracheal tube when compared with adhesive tape and was well tolerated in our observations.

Background: The treatment of chronic scapholunate dissociation (SLD) can be challenging due to several factors such as poor quality of ligament, malalignment of the carpus, limited surgical options, and risk of recurrent instability. Various surgical techniques have been developed, but there is ongoing debate regarding the optimal surgical technique. This study aimed to report the clinical and radiological outcomes after dorsal scapholunate (SL) ligament complex reconstruction using suture tape-augmented autologous tendon graft., Methods: The study included patients with Garcia-Elias stage 3-4 chronic SLD, SL advanced collapse (SLAC) stage 1, and a follow-up period exceeding 1 year. Pre- and postoperative SL gap, SL angle (SLA), radiolunate angle (RLA), and dorsal scaphoid translation (DST) were measured, and wrist active range of motion, Modified Mayo Wrist Score (MMWS), and visual analog scale (VAS) were evaluated., Results: Nine patients were included in this study with a mean follow-up period of 17 months (range, 15-31 months). All patients were male, with a mean age of 49 years (range, 30-62 years). Eight patients were classified as Garcia-Elias stage 4, while one was classified as SLAC 1. The median (range) of preoperative, immediate postoperative, and final follow-up measurements for SL gap, SLA, RLA, and DST were 5.4 mm (4.5-5.9), 2.1 mm (1.8-2.5), and 2.5 mm (2.0-2.8) ( p = 0.008); 76° (69°-88°), 50° (32°-56°), and 54° (50°-64°) ( p = 0.008); 22° (11.5°-33°), 2.8° (0.5°-3.8°), and 3.8° (2.2°-5.6°) ( p = 0.008); and 2.8 mm (2.0-3.4), 0.8 mm (0.1-1.2), and 1.0 mm (0.1-2.0) ( p = 0.008), respectively. Immediately after surgery, all radiological measurements showed significant improvement, which persisted up to 15 months postoperatively. The preoperative and final follow-up measurements of active flexion, extension, radial deviation, and ulnar deviation of the wrist showed significant improvement. Background: To analyze the feasibility and clinical results of the modified Broström operation (MBO) combined with suture tape augmentation under arthroscopy for chronic lateral ankle instability (CLAI) in patients with generalized joint laxity (GJL)., Methods: From October 2019 to October 2021, a total of 111 patients (111 ankles) treated with MBO combined with suture tape augmentation under arthroscope were retrospectively divided into a GJL group (29 patients) and a control group (82 patients). Mechanical stability of the affected ankle joint was evaluated radiographically preoperatively, at 6 months postoperatively, and the last follow-up. Complications and surgical failures, as well as visual analog scale (VAS) score, the Foot and Ankle Ability Measure (FAAM), and the Karlsson score were also recorded. All statistical analyses were completed using SPSS 20.0., Results: The average follow-up time was 21.7 ± 5.2 months for the GJL group, and 20.9 ± 5.3 months for the control group. Pain and symptoms in both groups were effectively relieved by the procedure reflected by decreased VAS scores, improved FAAM and Karlsson scores at 6 months postoperatively, and the final follow-up ( P  < .05). Preoperative talar tilt angle and anterior talar translation were significantly greater in the GJL group than those in the control group ( P  < .05). Postoperatively, both talar tilt angle and anterior talar translation were reduced in both groups at 6 months postoperatively and the last follow-up ( P  < .05), and we found no significant difference between the two groups ( P  > .05). Furthermore, we found no significant difference in VAS, FAAM, and Karlsson scores between the 2 groups 6 months postoperatively and at the last follow-up., Conclusion: Arthroscopic MBO combined with suture tape augmentation is a reliable procedure for treating CLAI with GJL. Background: The Broström procedure is an established procedure in cases of primary lateral ankle ligament repair (LALR). To improve postoperative stability an augmentation device, InternalBrace™ (Arthrex, Naples, FL) has been introduced. This study evaluates remodelling of the anterior talofibular ligament (ATFL) in patients undergoing a tape augmented Broström technique as well as clinical outcomes., Methods: In this study 32 patients with chronic lateral ankle instability (CLAI) receiving augmented LALR were included. Clinical outcomes were evaluated at a one-time postoperative visit between 12 and 18 months. A 3 T magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) was done to evaluate the morphology of the ATFL. Statistical analysis was completed with the free software and environment R version 3.6.3 (Bell Laboratories, Murray Hill, NJ, USA) and P-values < 0.05 were considered statistically significant., Results: The mean follow-up time was 15.3 ± 1.8 months with a return to sport time of 4.0 ± 2.4 months. The average AOFAS (American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society Score) score was 94.4 ± 7.2, the FAOS (Foot and Ankle Outcome Score) demonstrated 87.3 ± 10.4 points and the FFI (Foot Function Index - 2 scores (pain and function score)) was 22.9 ± 20.1 and 15.4 ± 10.4, respectively. The MRI findings demonstrated an average length of the ATFL of 18.6 ± 4.3 mm and the width was 3.6 ± 0.9 mm. A clear differentiation between the ATFL and the augmentation device could be shown in 28 cases. The Fisher's exact test could not depict a significant correlation between the presence of a bone marrow edema and the tension of the augmentation device with a level of significance of α = 0.05., Conclusion: An anatomical healing tendency of the ligament repair and good integrity of the augmentation device could be shown based on MRI findings. Purpose: To perform a systematic review of clinical studies to directly compare clinical outcomes of patients undergoing anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) with versus without suture tape (ST) augmentation., Methods: A systematic review was performed by searching PubMed, the Cochrane Library, and Embase to identify comparative studies directly comparing outcomes of ACLR with versus without ST augmentation with a minimum follow-up of 12 months. The search terms used were anterior cruciate ligament suture tape. Patients were evaluated based on graft failure rates, return to sport (RTS), anteroposterior (AP) laxity, and patient-reported outcomes (PROs)., Results: Five studies (all Level III) met inclusion criteria, including a total of 246 patients undergoing ACLR with ST augmentation (SA group) and 282 patients undergoing ACLR without augmentation (control group). Patient age ranged from 14.9 to 29.7 years. The mean follow-up time ranged from 24.0 to 48.6 months. The mean body mass index ranged from 25.3 to 26.3 kg/m 2 and the overall percentage of males ranged from 43.4% to 69.0%. Overall, the graft failure rate ranged from 1.0% to 25.0% in the SA group and 8.0% to 20.0% in the control group. Among the studies that reported RTS rates, the rate ranged from 69.2% to 88.9% in the SA group and 51.5% to 87.5% in the control group. Among all PROs, 2 studies found a significant difference in the Tegner score favoring the SA group. Otherwise, no significant differences were found between groups in terms of PROs. No significant differences in AP laxity were found between groups within any particular study. Background: Lisfranc injuries are often treated with open reduction and internal fixation using rigid fixation techniques. The use of flexible fixation to stabilize the Lisfranc joint is a newer technique. The purpose of this cadaveric study is to compare the amount of diastasis at the Lisfranc interval under diminished physiologic loads when treated with a knotless suture tape construct and a solid screw., Methods: Ten cadavers (20 feet) had native motion at the intact Lisfranc interval assessed at multiple increasing loads (69, 138, and 207 N). The Lisfranc ligamentous complex was then disrupted, and testing repeated to evaluate the amount of diastasis. Randomization was performed to determine the type of fixation for each cadaver: solid screw or knotless suture tape construct. Once fixation was completed, specimens were cyclically loaded for 10 000 cycles at loads, and diastasis was quantified after each load cycle to compare the interventions. Diastasis was measured using motion tracking cameras and retroreflective marker sets. A non-inferiority statistical analysis was performed., Results: Diastasis mean values were confirmed to be >2 mm for all load bearing conditions in the injury model. Posttreatment, diastasis was significantly reduced when compared to the sectioned conditions ( P  < .01) for both treatment options. Study Objective: To determine whether the combination of skin tapes and tissue adhesive is superior to either method alone for laceration repair.Methods: This was a prospective, longitudinal experiment on six anesthetized swine. Thirty-six full-thickness linear wounds were created using a metal template, then closed using one of three methods: skin tapes over benzoin, tissue adhesive, or a combination of both. The study was done in two parts. Group 1 (immediate excision) animals were euthanized at day zero for skin excision and tensile strength testing following wound repair. Group 2 (delayed excision) had initial wound repair; animals were euthanized at day 35 for skin excision and tensile strength testing.Results: In Group 1, the combination of skin tapes and tissue adhesive provided the strongest immediate wound closure. Average mean force for disruption immediately after wound repair was 19.9 lbs. for the tapes and tissue adhesive group compared to 9.6 lbs. for adhesive alone and 8.9 lbs. for tapes alone. The difference in mean force for combination repair vs. tapes alone was 10.3 lbs. (95% CI 4.1, 16.7), and combination vs. adhesive alone was 10.9 lbs. (95% CI 4.7, 17.3). In Group 2, the mean force required for laceration disruption for those repaired with both tape and tissue adhesive was 188.9 lbs. The mean force until wound disruption for tape only was 165.6 lbs., and the mean force until wound disruption for tissue adhesive alone was 118.9 lbs. The difference in mean force required for wound disruption for those repaired with adhesive alone vs. combination repair is 66.5 lbs. (95% CI 21.2, 111.9). The difference in mean force required for wound disruption between the other two groups was not statistically significant.Conclusions: This study demonstrates that the combination of skin tapes and tissue adhesive provides superior immediate wound closure strength to either of these methods alone in a porcine model. Background: Multiligament knee injury (MLKI) is a severe subclass of orthopedic injury and can result in significant functional impairment. Novel MLKI graft constructs such as suture augmentation aim to enhance graft strength and optimize knee stability. The purpose of this study was to present patient-reported outcome measurements of a cohort at a minimum follow-up of 2 years after multiligament knee reconstruction (MLKR) with suture augmentation., Materials and Methods: A retrospective chart review was performed to identify patients who underwent MLKR with suture augmentation. Demographic and injury-specific variables were gathered preoperatively and postoperatively. Patients were contacted at a minimum of 2 years postoperatively to collect Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System, Multiligament Quality of Life, and Lysholm knee scores., Results: Twenty-seven patients underwent MLKR with suture augmentation, with 15 being female (55.6%) and 12 being male (44.4%). The mean pain score was 49.93±9.96, the mean physical function score was 49.56±10.94, and the mean mobility score was 47.56±8.58. The mean physical impairment score was 33.96±23.69, the mean emotional impairment score was 36.55±26.60, the mean activity limitation score was 28.00±25.61, and the mean societal involvement score was 30.09±27.45. The mean Lysholm knee score for the cohort was 67.93±22.36., Conclusion: Patients who underwent MLKR with suture augmentation had satisfactory scores across all patient-reported outcome measurements. On the basis of these criteria, the average patient achieved an acceptable clinical outcome, demonstrating that MLKR with suture augmentation is a safe and efficacious surgical technique for the treatment of MLKI. Purpose: Arthroscopic repair is performed for fovea injuries of the triangular fibrocartilage complex (TFCC) when instability of the distal radioulnar joint results in pain, decreased grip strength, and mechanical symptoms. During TFCC repair, reconstruction of its attachment to the fovea is important. Nonabsorbent suture tapes have gained attention for ligament repair in the trapeziometacarpal joint, scapholunate ligament, and thumb metacarpophalangeal ligament. However, there are no reports of TFCC repair using suture tapes. We evaluated the early postoperative results of this approach., Methods: Participants underwent arthroscopic suture tape repair of foveal TFCC tears and were observed for more than 1 year. All repairs were performed using suture tapes and an outside-in technique with a bone tunnel from the ulnar shaft to the fovea. The postoperative complications, postoperative wrist range of motion, grip strength, and the Modified Mayo Score were evaluated., Results: Arthroscopic repair with a suture tape was performed for 20 hands using the outside-in technique. The ranges of motion for the operated and nonoperated hands were comparable 1 year after surgery (pronation, 84° ± 4°; supination, 83° ± 4°). The mean grip strength improved from 65% ± 13% before surgery to 89% ± 9% after a year. The mean Modified Mayo Score improved from 58 ± 11 before surgery to 91 ± 8 after a year. Postoperative complications included abnormal sensation of the dorsal ulnar side in 2 hands., Conclusions: After using a suture tape to attach the TFCC to the fovea, satisfactory function was achieved in the early postoperative period with grip strength restoration. Purpose: To assess whether posterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (PCLR) with suture tape augmentation can yield more stability after isolated PCLR., Methods: A prospective database was retrospectively reviewed to identify patients who underwent primary isolated PCLR (control group) or isolated PCLR with suture tape augmentation (study group) from January 2016 to September 2020. We analyzed subjective International Knee Documentation Committee (IKDC), Lysholm, and Tegner knee scores; posterior drawer test findings; posterior stress radiographs; and return-to-sports activity rates. The minimal clinically important difference (MCID) was used to evaluate clinical relevance (subjective IKDC, Lysholm, and Tegner scores)., Results: A total of 59 patients were included in this analysis (28 in control group and 31 in study group). The average length of follow-up was similar between the study and control groups (48.6 months vs 47.9 months, P = .800). Knee function was significantly improved in the study group in terms of subjective IKDC scores (85.1 ± 6.4 in study group vs 79.8 ± 6.4 in control group, P = .002), Lysholm scores (86.3 ± 7.4 vs 80.8 ± 7.4, P = .005), and Tegner scores (7.0 ± 1.4 vs 5.6 ± 1.7, P = .006). However, the differences between the control and study groups were less than the MCID for the subjective IKDC score and Lysholm score. In the control and study groups, 21.4% of patients (6 of 28) and 48.4% of patients (15 of 31), respectively, returned to their preinjury sports activity levels (P = .031). At last follow-up, the mean side-to-side difference in posterior laxity was significantly improved in the study group compared with the control group (1.52 ± 0.70 mm in study group vs 3.17 ± 2.01 mm in control group, P < .01)., Conclusions: Primary isolated PCLR with suture tape augmentation provides better posterior stability than PCLR without suture tape augmentation at a minimum of 2 years' follow-up. Xkin closure is a newly developed medical suture device for lacerations and surgical wounds that can reduce scarring, pain and the risk of infection compared with conventional sutures or staplers. A randomized controlled study was performed to compare the wound healing effects and complications of Xkin closure with stapler closure. Fifty patients who underwent robot-assisted radical prostatectomy for prostate cancer were randomly assigned. Only the wound above the navel, which was extended to take out the prostate was targeted. The wound was examined at 2, 6 and 12 weeks after surgery, and the modified Vancouver Scar Scale (mVSS), scar height and side effects were assessed with a 3D skin analyser. Forty-six patients (23 Xkin, 23 Stapler) were analysed. The mVSS scores, vascularity and pliability were significantly lower in the Xkin group compared with the stapler group at the 12-week follow-up. No significant differences in the maximum peak and depth of the scars were detected between the two groups using 3D photographs at 12 weeks. Xkin is an effective wound closure method for improving scar outcomes. Objective: This study aimed to measure the effectiveness of neuromuscular taping (NMT) form I (a polyacrylate tape 0.6cm wide and 30cm long) on wound temperature and erythema in diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) as an initial study in NMT intervention trials., Method: The study employed a quasi-experimental pretest and post-test design with a seven-day observation. The research sample was 38 patients with DFU grades 2 and 3. The sample was divided into two groups: the control group (n=19) and the intervention group (n=19). In wound care, the modern dressing was applied to both groups while NMT was applied to the intervention group in form I with 30cm long and 6mm wide strips, and on the proximal, distal and lateral sides. The wound bed temperature was measured with a non-contact infrared thermometer, and erythema was measured with Corel Photo-Paint X5 software (Corel Corp, Canada). Statistical analysis between the two groups was carried out using the Mann-Whitney test, independent t-test and Chi-squared test with p< 0.05 representing statistical significance., Results: The preliminary results revealed that no statistically significant differences (p>0.05) were noted between the groups in sociodemographic or clinical characteristics, including age, body mass index, blood sugar, duration of diabetes, sex, smoking history, wound temperature and degree of erythema. Finally, it was also observed that, after seven days of application, NMT form I increased wound bed temperature, and reduced the level of erythema (p<0.05)., Conclusion: In this study, NMT form I has been shown to increase the wound bed temperature and reduce the degree of erythema in DFUs.

Introduction: Ventral penile curvature is a key factor in determining the surgical approach to proximal hypospadias repair. However, there is limited evidence regarding the efficacy and long-term effects of the procedures used to address curvature. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of urethral plate transection alone with tissue traction therapy on penile curvature in two-stage repair of proximal hypospadias., Material and Methods: This was a prospective study of primary hypospadias patients who underwent a two-stage repair with urethral plate transection as the sole straightening procedure. After stage 1, taping was applied as tissue traction therapy and continued until stage 2. Penile curvature was measured using a goniometer under artificial erection before and immediately after urethral plate transection and during the second stage of repair. The primary focus of this investigation is the angle of curvature after 6-month taping., Results: The study included 46 patients with a median age of 13 months at the start of treatment. The median angle of penile ventral curvature was 70° after degloving, 60° after urethral plate transection, and 0° during the second stage of repair. Full correction of ventral curvature was achieved in 42 patients (91 %)., Discussion: This publication is the first of its kind to propose taping as a method for penile traction therapy in hypospadias. The study reveals that penile ventral lengthening can be achieved through tissue traction therapy following UP transection alone. These findings challenge the current consensus that complete straightening of the penis in the first stage is necessary to prevent recurrent curvature and that ventral lengthening is required to correct corporal disproportion. However, further validation and long-term data are needed to definitively confirm the effectiveness of tissue traction therapy after urethral plate transection., Conclusions: This study demonstrated significant resolution rate of penile ventral curvature in proximal hypospadias following urethral plate transection alone with taping. Background: Skin tape-strips and biopsies are widely used methods for investigating the skin in atopic dermatitis (AD). Biopsies are more commonly used but can cause scarring and pain, whereas tape-strips are noninvasive but sample less tissue. The study evaluated the performance of skin tape-strips and biopsies for studying AD., Methods: Whole-transcriptome RNA-sequencing was performed on paired tape-strips and biopsies collected from lesional and non-lesional skin from AD patients (n = 7) and non-AD controls (n = 5). RNA yield, mapping efficiency, and differentially expressed genes (DEGs) for the two methods (tape-strip/biopsy) and presence of AD (AD/non-AD) were compared., Results: Tape-strips demonstrated a lower RNA yield (22 vs. 4596 ng) and mapping efficiency to known genes (28% vs. 93%) than biopsies. Gene-expression profiles of paired tape-strips and biopsies demonstrated a medium correlation (R 2  = 0.431). Tape-strips and biopsies demonstrated systematic differences in measured expression levels of 6483 genes across both AD and non-AD samples. Tape-strips preferentially detected many itch (CCL3/CCL4/OSM) and immune-response (CXCL8/IL4/IL5/IL22) genes as well as markers of epidermal dendritic cells (CD1a/CD207), while certain cytokines (IL18/IL37), skin-barrier genes (KRT2/FLG2), and dermal fibroblasts markers (COL1A/COL3A) were preferentially detected by biopsies. Tape-strips identified more DEGs between AD and non-AD (3157 DEGs) then biopsies (44 DEGs). Tape-strips also detected higher levels of bacterial mRNA than biopsies., Conclusions: This study concludes that tape-strips and biopsies each demonstrate respective advantages for measuring gene-expression changes in AD. Thus, the specific skin layers and genes of interest should be considered before selecting either method., (© 2024 The Authors. BackgroundEarly detection and treatment of melanoma is important for optimal clinical outcome, leading to biopsy of pigmented lesions deemed suspicious for the disease. The vast majority of such lesions are benign. Thus, a more objective and accurate means for detection of melanoma is needed to identify lesions for excision.ObjectivesTo provide proof-of-principle that epidermal genetic information retrieval (EGIR™; DermTech International, La Jolla, CA, U.S.A.), a method that noninvasively samples cells from stratum corneum by means of adhesive tape stripping, can be used to discern melanomas from naevi.MethodsSkin overlying pigmented lesions clinically suspicious for melanoma was harvested using EGIR. RNA isolated from the tapes was amplified and gene expression profiled. Background & Problems: Medical adhesives are typically used to fix wound dressings and catheters in place. Medical adhesive-related skin injuries (MARSI) are frequently caused by repetitive or improper usage of these products. The incidence rate in this unit is as high as 12.5%, which increases the difficulty and cost of care. After analysis of the situation, we identified the main causes of MARSI in our unit as: (1) Inadequate use of medicaladhesive products, (2) Lack of relevant education and training to prevent MARSI, and (3) lack of a standardized skindamage- care procedure. Purpose: To decrease the incidence of MARSI in the pediatric intensive care unit. Resolution: A training program was enacted to teach proper medical-adhesive application and removal techniques to caregivers. Consensus on care procedures was reached and care standards were modified. A mechanism for quality control was established. Results: After implementing the program, the incidence of MARSI dropped from 12.5% to 5.18%, which achieved the target of this project. Conclusions: Other caregivers at our institution remain unaware of MARSI prevention techniques and protocols. We plan to continue cooperating with other staff members to prevent MARSI and to continue to reduce related skin injuries to as close to nil as possible. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

INTRODUCTION: Fixing a skin graft is essential to its integration in the recipient bed. The literature presents several fixation techniques. However, only few reports on the use of microporous tape are available. This study aims to demonstrate and promote the use of microporous tape in fixing skin grafts. METHODS: A prospective study was performed from January 2014 to January 2016. In 40 patients, a sterilized microporous tape was used as an isolated method to fix skin grafts. RESULTS: The use of skin graft immobilization showed satisfactory results and consequently good integration. CONCLUSION: The use of a sterilized microporous tape is an excellent method for fixing skin grafts because it is easy, fast, and safe to use.

Purpose: This study was performed to evaluate the safety and feasibility of skin adhesives and to compare postoperative and cosmetic outcomes after wound closure in single-port laparoscopic appendectomy (SPLA) between skin adhesives and steri-strips., Methods: This was a single-center retrospective study. We included 22 and 47 patients in whom skin adhesive and steri-strips were used respectively, for skin closure after subcuticular suturing in SPLA between August 2014 and 2020. The patient scar assessment questionnaire (PSAQ) was completed postoperatively to assess postoperative cosmetic outcomes., Results: On the postoperative day, patients in whom skin adhesive was used had significantly lower numeric rating scores than in whom steri-strips were used (2.8 ± 0.8 vs. 3.9 ± 0.8, p < 0.001). The frequency of analgesic administration within 24 hours and between 24 and 48 hours after surgery was significantly lower in the skin adhesive group compared to the wound closure strip group (1.4 ± 0.8 vs. 2.7 ± 1.2, p = 0.013 and 0.2 ± 0.4 vs. 0.7 ± 0.9, p = 0.002, respectively). In the PSAQ, "satisfaction with appearance" and "satisfaction with symptoms" subitem scores were significantly lower in patients in whom skin adhesive was used (11.3 ± 3.0 vs. 15.1 ± 4.5, p = 0.006 and 6.5 ± 1.8 vs. 9.5 ± 3.3, p = 0.003), whereas, "appearance" and "consciousness" subitems revealed no statistically significant differences between the groups., Conclusion: Liquid skin adhesive closures seem to be safe and feasible and cause less postoperative pain, resulting in greater patient satisfaction with postoperative scars than wound closure strip closure after subcuticular suturing in SPLA.

There are so many wound closure materials and suturing techniques described in the literature and surgeons have to deal with different kinds of wounds. It would be very difficult for a surgeon who is aiming to have the perfect wound closure to choose the exact wound closure technique and material. In this review, we aimed to outline how and when to use the available wound closure technics/materials (sutures, staplers, surgical tapes, tissue adhesives) and the scientific claims behind their effectiveness for various kinds of wounds. A literature review using PubMed and Cochrane search engine is performed. Keywords searched during the literature survey were; suture, tissue adhesive, surgical tape, stapler, suturing technique. Literature data states that there are many factors to choose the correct material and suturing technique including the type and place of the wound, wound tension, the type of injured organ, physician expertise and routine, patient age and general health condition and the available wound closure material. Careful consideration of these factors and the proper execution of suturing techniques/materials can lead to excellent wound closure results. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objectives: The aim of this retrospective study was to compare subcuticular sutures and Steri-Strip™ S in closing median sternotomy incisions in children with regard to wound healing and scar formation. Methods: Fifty-three children and adolescents were enrolled in this study who all underwent a median sternotomy at age 0–18 years and had their presternal cutaneous wounds closed with either a running subcuticular suture (Group 1) or Steri-Strip™ S (Group 2). Their scars were assessed using the Patient and Observer Scar Assessment Scale (POSAS). Secondary outcome measures were the scar measurements and the incidence of wound problems post-surgery. Results: A significant difference was found between both groups in median POSAS observer scale scores for the items thickness (p =.027), pliability (p =.045), surface area (p =.045) and the total score (p =.048). All in favor of the subcuticular suture group. There were no significant differences concerning the POSAS patient scale scores. Middle parts of scars of patients in Group 2 were significantly broader (p =.001) than scars of patients in Group 1. No significant differences concerning wound problems were found. Conclusions: There are, according to our results, no significant differences in wound healing of median sternotomy incisions in children closed with either a subcuticular suture or Steri-Strip™ S. Significant differences do exist regarding scar formation and final cosmetic results of the scars, in favor of subcuticular closure. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background Repair of facial laceration in the emergency department can pose a number of difficulties. Children can be uncooperative, but adults can also be if they have sustained head trauma or are intoxicated. Leukosan SkinLink consists of topical adhesive and adhesive tape that can be applied easily to long or tense wounds. In this study, the authors compared conventional suturing with Leukosan SkinLink for facial laceration patients in the emergency department. Methods The prospective study was carried out from March 2013 to September 2013 with linear facial laceration patients visiting the emergency department. Exclusion criteria were open fractures, joint injuries, skin defects, hairy skin, and mucosa. The author used Leukosan SkinLink for skin closure in the experimental group and used conventional suturing in the control group. The scar evaluation using the Patient and Observer Scar Assessment Scale (POSAS) along with satisfaction scores, procedure times, and complications were compared. Results A total of 77 patients (30 in the control group and 47 in the experimental group) participated and underwent follow-up for 6 months postoperatively. The scar assessment using the POSAS and the satisfaction score in both groups were similar. The average procedure time in the experimental group was shorter. In the control group, there were four cases of wound dehiscence, two of infection, and one of skin necrosis, whereas four cases of wound dehiscence and one allergic reaction occurred in the experimental group. Conclusions With a simple application technique, Leukosan SkinLink is a new effective method for facial laceration repair especially useful for children and uncooperative adults.

Background: The skin in contact with the adhesives used to secure catheters is vulnerable to medical adhesive-related skin injury (MARSI). The incidence of these injuries and the risks associated with their development have not been accurately estimated previously in critically ill patients., Aim: The aim of this study was to investigate the incidence and risk factors for MARSI in catheters of critically ill patients., Methods: A prospective cohort study was conducted in adult intensive care units of two Brazilian university hospitals. A total of 150 patients (439 catheters) were included. The skin exposed to the catheter fixation adhesives (central venous, nasogastric, nasoenteral, and indwelling urinary) was examined daily by four trained researchers. The patients' sociodemographic and clinical data were collected from their electronic medical records. The association between independent variables and MARSI was investigated by bivariate statistics, followed by a multiple logistic regression., Results: The MARSI incidence was 42% (86.5 MARSIs per 1000 patient-days). Advanced age, prolonged hospital stay, dry skin, repetitive adhesive removal, low Braden Scale score, and hypoalbuminemia were associated with MARSI (p < .05). According to the multivariate logistic regression, dry skin increased the chance of MARSI by 5.2 times (odds ratio: 5.2; 95% confidence interval: 2.4-11.1), while the Braden Scale score was a protective factor, showing 30% less chance of MARSI for each added score (odds ratio: 0.7; 95% confidence interval: 0.6-0.9). A higher incidence of MARSI was observed in nasoenteral catheters and in those fixed with adhesive using natural rubber. The MARSI types were predominantly mechanical (70.3%): skin stripping (41.3%), skin tear (26.1%), and tension injury or blister (2.9%)., Conclusions: MARSI is a common event in adult intensive care units, and most risk factors are modifiable.
