El cáncer de próstata es uno de los cánceres más frecuentes en varones. Su incidencia ha aumentado en los últimos años, debido, en parte, a la detección precoz mediante el cribado con la determinación del antígeno prostático específico (PSA). El hueso es la localización más común de las metástasis, las cuales son frecuentemente sintomáticas, produciendo dolor, debilidad y afectación funcional. Las metástasis óseas son usualmente osteoblásticas, aunque también se ha demostrado incremento de la resorción ósea. Se presenta el caso de un varón de 49 años, diagnosticado recientemente de cáncer de próstata, que acudió al Servicio de Urgencias por dolor torácico derecho. La exploración física mostró dolor de características mecánicas en 5ª-7ª costillas. La radiografía de tórax mostró ausencia del 6º arco costal.

Introduction: In the educational process of children and adolescents in schools, there are many personal and contextual situations that significantly affect the students in their school stage. In this way, variables such as emotional intelligence, burnout and academic engagement play a fundamental role in the school life of adolescent students. The objective of this work was to analyze the relationship between emotional intelligence, burnout and academic engagement in a sample of 1756 students belonging to 12 public secondary education centers. Method: The study was composed of 1756 students belonging to 12 public compulsory secondary education (ESO) centers. The present work consisted of an ex post-facto prospective study with a simple descriptive design, responding to a simple random sampling. The instruments used were the Spanish versions of the Trait Meta-Mood Scale-24 (TMMS-24), the Maslach Burnout Inventory-Student Survey (MBI-SS) and the Utrecht Work Engagement Scale-Student (UWES-S). Results: The results showed positive relationships between the dimensions of emotional intelligence and academic engagement in the same way that negative burnout. In add, physical and emotional exhaustion and cynicism negatively predicted emotional intelligence at the same time that vigor, dedication and absorption did it positively. Discussion or Conclusion: The importance of the promotion of adaptive behaviors and emotional skills that improve school performance and the academic life of students in their educational centers was revealed.

Introduction: During the school stage of the students in their schools different personal and academic activities have a decisive influence on the personal and on the performance variables. Therefore, the study of variables such as emotional intelligence, engagement and academic performance will help to understand the relationships between these constructs. The objective of this paper was to analyze the relationship between emotional intelligence, academic engagement and school performance in a sample of 3,512 adolescent students belonging to 18 compulsory secondary education schools. Method: The instruments used the Spanish versions of the Traid Meta-Mood Scale-24 (TMMS-24), the Utrecht Work Engagement Scale-Student (UWES-S) and the school performance was quantified through the average mark of their student. Results: The results showed positive relations of school performance with academic engagement and emotional intelligence, except with emotional perception, in turn, as a predictive value of the dedication to academic tasks. Discussion or Conclusion: The need to promote adaptive behaviors in the classroom as facilitators of positive attitudes for school performance and social development of students was revealed.

Background: During the school years, many contextual and academic scenarios ensue that demand students mobilise their intrapersonal and social abilities. The way these situations are faced will determine the future personality of teenage students. This study aims to analyse the relationship between self-esteem and self-efficacy and the possible mediating role of satisfaction with life in secondary school students. Methods: The study comprises 816 participants, both male (N = 426; 52.20%) and female (N = 390; 47.89%) from 11 private and public secondary schools. The instruments used are the Academic Self-Efficacy Scale (ASES), the Rosenberg Self Esteem Scale (RSES) and the Satisfaction With Life Scale (SWLS). Results: The results reveal a gender difference in terms of self-esteem and significant correlations between the three constructs under consideration. Self-esteem is found to play a mediating role between self-efficacy and life satisfaction. Conclusion: The study reveals that self-esteem has significant influence in self-efficacy and life satisfaction in adolescents and in the mediating role that self-esteem plays in the relationship between the other two constructs. This emphasises the importance of building self-esteem towards the personal and psychological development of students.

Digoxin poisonings are relatively common and potentially fatal, requiring immediate therapeutic intervention, with special attention to the patient's hemodynamic status and the presence of electrocardiographic and electrolytic disturbances. To identify factors associated with seven-day and thirty-day mortality in digoxin poisoning. A retrospective, observational, multicenter study was conducted across 15 Hospital Emergency Departments (HED) in Spain. All patients over 18 years of age who presented to participating HEDs from 2015 to 2021 were included. The inclusion criteria encompassed individuals meeting the criteria for digoxin poisoning, whether acute or chronic. To identify independent factors associated with 7-day and 30-day mortality, a multivariate analysis was conducted. This analysis included variables of clinical significance, as well as those exhibiting a trend (p < 0.1) or significance in the bivariate analysis. A total of 658 cases of digoxin poisoning were identified. Mortality rates were 4.5% (30 patients) at seven days and 11.1% (73 patients) at thirty days. Regarding 7-day mortality, the mean age of deceased patients was comparable to survivors (84.7 (8.9) vs 83.9 (7.9) years; p = ns). The multivariate analysis revealed that factors independently associated with 7-day mortality encompassed the extent of dependence assessed by the Barthel Index (BI 60–89 OR 0.28; 95% CI 0.10–0.77; p = 0.014 and BI>90 OR 0.22; 95% CI 0.08–0.63; p = 0.005), the identification of ventricular arrhythmias (OR 1.34; 95% CI 1.34–25.21; p = 0.019), and the presence of circulatory (OR 2.84; 95% CI 1.19–6.27; p = 0.019) and neurological manifestations (OR 2.67; 95% CI 1.13–6.27; p = 0.025). Factors independently associated with 30-day mortality encompassed extent of dependence (BI 60–89 OR 0.37; 95% CI 0.20–0.71; p = 0.003 and BI>90 OR 0.18; 95% CI 0.09–0.39; p < 0.001) and the identification of circulatory (OR 2.13; 95% CI 1.10–4.15; p = 0.025) and neurological manifestations (OR 2.39; 95% CI 1.25–3.89; p = 0.006). The study identifies the degree of dependency assessed by the Barthel Index and the presence of cardiovascular and neurological symptoms as independent predictors of both 7-day and 30-day mortality. Additionally, the detection of ventricular arrhythmia is also an independent factor for 7-day mortality. • Digoxin poisoning is a common, life-threatening issue. • Frailty and comorbidities should be considered, given the high prevalence of this poisoning in the elderly. • Identifying factors linked to mortality in the initial assessment warrants closer patient monitoring. El objetivo de este estudio ha sido describir las estrategias de afrontamiento utilizadas por los adolescentes en las distintas situaciones de estrés que les suceden en su vida cotidiana, así como su repercusión en la felicidad subjetiva. Para ello, se evaluó a 1.402 alumnos/as de Enseñanza Secundaria (711 chicos y 691 chicas) de entre 12 y 17 años. Los resultados muestran como los chicos hacen más uso de estrategias de tipo no productivo, mientras las chicas buscan más el apoyo social. El modelo creado para la variable dependiente felicidad permite una estimación correcta del 92,9% de los casos (X2 = 477.351; p < 0.001; R2 = 0.607). Los resultados indican como la percepción de la felicidad subjetiva es mayor entre quienes usan estilos de afrontamiento orientado a otros, mientras, el afrontamiento no productivo, incide en una menor felicidad subjetiva. Como principales conclusiones, señalar la necesidad de trabajar con los adolescentes las estrategias de afrontamiento con el grupo, un mejor manejo de las estrategias de carácter más introspectivo, así como el incremento y entrenamiento en el uso de las estrategias de afrontamiento activo y de soporte emocional.
