The article informs about a randomized controlled trial comparing the effectiveness of piezocision-aided canine retraction (CR) with and without micro-osteoperforation (MOP). Topics include the study design, participant eligibility criteria, and the primary and secondary outcomes, which assessed the rate of CR, angular changes of the canine, and changes in buccal cortical bone thickness using cone beam computed tomography.

Objective: This review aimed at analyzing the literature comparing vacuum-formed retainers and lingual-bonded retainers for maintaining treatment stability and periodontal health and evaluating retainer failure and patient satisfaction. Methods: Electronic databases such as PubMed, Cochrane Library, Ovid, Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar were searched. Only randomized controlled trials were involved. Risk of bias was evaluated using Risk of Bias 2 Tool. Meta-analysis was performed and certainty of evidence was assessed with Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation approach. Results: Five randomized controlled trials were included for qualitative analysis and 2 studies were included for quantitative analysis. Two studies concluded that lingual-bonded retainers were more effective than vacuum-formed retainers in maintaining treatment stability. Two studies had a high risk of bias and 3 studies had some concerns. No statistically significant difference in Little's Irregularity Index (standard mean difference = -0.10; P value = .61), inter-canine width (standard mean difference = 0.66; P value = .09), inter-molar width (standard mean difference = 0.08; P value = .85), arch length (standard mean difference = -0.18; P value = .60) between the 2 retainers was noted. Periodontal status and retainer failure rate (odds ratio= 2.28; P value = .23) were similar in both retainers. Patient discomfort, soreness, and speech difficulty were more with vacuum-formed retainers and oral hygiene maintenance was easier with vacuum-formed retainers. Conclusion: A very low-level certainty of evidence suggests that both vacuum-formed retainers and lingual-bonded retainers were equally effective in maintaining treatment stability. Periodontal status and retainer failures were similar in both retainers. Vacuum-formed retainers were better for oral hygiene maintenance but were associated with discomfort, soreness, and speech difficulty than lingual-bonded retainers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aim: The purpose of this study was to determine whether patients with class 2 skeletal malocclusion in a private dental hospital had skeletal discrepancies. Materials and methods: This was a descriptive, retrospective study, and the dental information archiving software was used to collect all the data from the patients who attended the dental clinics at Saveetha Dental College, SIMATS, Chennai, India (DIAS). March 2020 through March 2021 saw the collection of patient records. We gathered and tabulated the data. The gathered data underwent additional processing, was entered into Microsoft Excel, and then went through statistical analysis using IBM SPSS statistics analyzer v.23.0. Results: The current study used a total sample size of 88950 patients. Skeletal class 2 malocclusion was seen in 0.01 percent of cases overall. The data in this study was examined for the occurrence of different skeletal inconsistencies. Results were satisfactory and showed that there were skeletal differences. A gender bias was evident, with 50.4 percent of the sample population being female. Mandibular deficit was the most frequent skeletal discrepancy, and class 2 div 1 dental malocclusion was most frequently detected. Conclusion: Mandibular deficit was shown to be the most common skeletal discrepancy within the constraints of the current investigation, and a substantial correlation between the skeletal discrepancies and the gender of the study group was found. Aim: The aim of this study was to predict the 3D structure of luxS of Fusobacterium nucleatum and identification of key residues by in silico homology modeling and molecular docking for inhibiting autoinducer-2 (AI-2), responsible for biofilm formation. Materials and Methods: The current study was to explore 3D structure of luxS protein along with its major residues that are directly responsible for the activity by homology modeling employing Discovery Studio V4.0. Further, a ligand-based pharmacophore was generated, employing the known ligands to control AI-2 producing enzymes and to ultimately regulate biofilm formation in the oral environment subjecting to key bioinformatics tools. Results: The multiple sequence alignment study showed 26 and 56% similarity in target and template sequences of luxS protein, respectively. Homology modeling indicated high structural similarity between the two luxS proteins (homocysteine and 4, 5-dihydroxy-2, 3 pentanedione) with a low root mean square value of 0.6 Å, in addition to leading to major mutations that are responsible for the production of AI-2. A pharmacophore model was generated as a template for virtual screening to explore potent luxS inhibitor. ZINC15 database was used for similarity search algorithms and screening against a generated pharmacophore model. During molecular docking, a molecule was structurally identified with a high libdock score and significant binding energy, in addition to establishing a regulatory mechanism with the receptor protein. Conclusions: This investigation paves way for the high throughput virtual screening to characterize luxS and associated proteins resulting in considerable minimization of time and funds before taking up biological confirmatory tests in the wet laboratories during exploration of possible inhibitors. Background: The wrinkles and grooves on the labial mucosa called sulci labiorum forms a characteristic pattern called as lip prints. The study of lip print is cheiloscopy it is used as an identification tool in the forensic department these days since lip prints are unique as fingerprints in each individual’s. Aim: The aim of the study was to compare the lip prints of North Indians and South Indians and to analyze its uniqueness. Materials and Methods: The study group consists of 100 people, which included both 50 North Indians and 50 South Indians. The subjects had no lesions on their lips and they were not sensitive to lipsticks. A single coat of lipstick was applied on the subject’s lips evenly, not too thick. The subjects were asked to keep their lips in a closed and resting state, and a strip of cellophane tape was used to take the lip print impression. The grooves and furrows in the impression were clearly examined using a magnifying glass, and the type of lip print was identified. The number of lines and furrows, length, branching, and combination was noted and recorded. Then, the lip prints were compiled, analyzed, and interpreted. Results: Lip prints are unique like our thumbprint and in correlation of lip prints among North Indians and South Indian, Type 2 was dominant in North Indian upper right lip; Type 1a was dominant in South Indian. Type 1a was dominant in both North Indian and South Indian upper left lip. Type 2 was dominant in both North Indian and South Indian lower right lip Type 2 was dominant in North Indian lower left lip; Type 1a was dominant in South Indian lower left lip. Conclusion: Lip prints are unique and it can be used for identification purposes. Among North Indians and South Indians, Type 2 and Type 1a were most predominant in both the population. Introduction: Of the various orthodontic bonding materials, orthofix is a fairly new entrant into this field. This material was exclusively introduced for orthodontic bonding purposes; however, the application of this material for orthodontic purpose has not been scientifically evaluated so far. Aim: The aim of the present study was to evaluate by an in-vivo double blinded split mouth rando mized clinical trial, the overall bond failure rates of two Bis-GMA based composite materials namely Transbond XT and Orthofix. Materials and Methods: Thirty three participants who fulfilled the inclusion criteria were randomly allocated by lottery method into two groups. Group A participants had maxillary right and the mandibular left quadrants bonded using Orthofix and the remaining quadrants were bonded using Transbond XT. In Group B, the quadrants were reversed. Both groups were followed for a period of six months and were reviewed every 3-4 weeks. If a bond failed, the details were recorded and the duration of treatment before each breakage was calculated. Data were analyzed using Independent t-test and chi-square test. (p< 0.05) at 90% power. Results: The overall bond failure rate for 263 brackets was 2.7% for Orthofix and 3.6% for Transbond XT. The mean esitmated survival time was 221.58 days for Transbond XT and for Orthofix was 220.07 days. The difference between these mean values were statistically insignificant (p>0.05). Similarly, failure rates of the anterior and posterior segment were compared and no difference was observed between the groups (p>0.05). The maxillary and mandibular teeth were compared and more failures were found in the mandibular teeth among both the groups but they were not statistically significant (p>0.05). Conclusion: The overall bond failure rate and mean survival time for Transbond XT was similar to Orthofix with no statistically significant difference. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
