The present paper details the total wave-induced forces and moments on the circular cum parabola shape (CPS-PSB) and vertical front pile-supported breakwaters (VF-PSB) through a comprehensive experimental investigation under intermediate to deep water conditions. The model was subjected to the action of random waves with peak wave periods ranging from 1s to 2.6s. The total wave forces and moments were measured using a six-component force balance. VF-PSB experiences maximum wave force at lower submergence and the vertical force decreases exponentially as relative depth increases. In the case of CPS-PSB, the variation of vertical force with relative depth is similar to the energy loss. The horizontal wave forces on both PSB models decrease with their relative submergence as the wave exposure frontal area. The induced moments are higher for longer waves and higher submergence. The 25Cr7Ni stainless steel alloy system is gaining increasing interest in the oil and gas industry because of its combination of high strength and corrosion resistance properties. However, very few studies on the effects of starting powder attributes and chemical composition on the as-printed properties of 25Cr7Ni stainless steel fabricated through laser-powder bed fusion (L-PBF) exist in the literature. This study examined the influence of powder attributes and chemical composition on the samples from gas atomized and water atomized 25Cr7Ni stainless steel powders, fabricated through L-PBF, on their as-printed microstructure and properties. The mechanical properties that were examined included ultimate tensile strength (UTS), elongation (%), and hardness. The corrosion behavior was also studied using linear sweep voltammetry in 3.5 wt.% NaCl solution. The evolved phases were characterized using optical and scanning electron microscopy, as well as through X-ray diffraction. The gas atomized powders, with their spherical and uniform morphology, yielded as-printed parts of higher relative densities when compared to water atomized powders, with irregular morphology due to better powder bed compaction. The higher densification obtained in the L-PBF samples from gas atomized powders translated into the highest UTS, hardness, and yield strength among the L-PBF samples from water atomized powders and wrought–annealed 25Cr7Ni stainless steel. The presence of higher amounts of N and Mn in the chemical composition of the gas atomized powders over water atomized powders promoted the presence of retained austenite in the corresponding L-PBF samples. Higher amounts of Mo, combined with austenite content, yielded a higher corrosion resistance in the L-PBF samples from the gas atomized powder than in the L-PBF samples from the water atomized powders. The latter part of the work is focused on the evaluation of simulation parameters for analyzing the fabrication procedure for the L-PBF process using Simufact software. For a given set of process parameters, Simufact provides the distortion and internal stresses developed in the printed parts as output. The present study sought to evaluate the process simulation by comparing the experimental observations in terms of the part distortion achieved in a stainless steel cube fabricated through L-PBF with Simufact process simulation obtained using the same set of process parameters.

High-energy events such as tsunamis pose significant threats to coastal infrastructure and buildings, necessitating effective mitigation strategies to minimize damage. Compared to massive construction measures, buffer blocks are increasingly recognized as a potential solution for reducing the impact of such events. Understanding their effectiveness and optimizing their placement configurations is crucial for enhancing coastal resilience. The present study aims to experimentally evaluate the influence of buffer blocks on the depth of tsunami inundation. By comparing different configurations of buffer blocks, this study seeks to identify the most effective one for reducing the inundating flow depth. The laboratory tests revealed that the buffer blocks significantly influence flow depth and its characteristics. For ratios of flow depth to block height (R) below 1.5, the buffer blocks exhibited a delay in the arrival of the flow and effectively reduced the flow depths. However, for R values greater than 1.5, the effectiveness reduced as the flow began to overtop the obstructions. The increase in the flow depth at the buffer blocks was the least for a single-row configuration, while the multiple-row configurations with wider spacing offered higher flow resistance and increased the flow depths in front of the blocks. These findings suggest that strategically configured buffer blocks can substantially enhance coastal protection against high-energy flow events during natural coastal hazards. This study provides critical insights into the design and optimization of buffer block configurations, contributing to improved coastal infrastructure resilience and disaster mitigation strategies. The study aimed to evaluate suitable hormonal treatment regimen for inducing oestrus in postpartum anoestrus Vechur cows and its reproductive outcome. The efficiency of Ovsynch and Ovsynch + progesterone protocols in 12 anoestrus cows was studied. Six anoestrus cows were kept as untreated control and they were observed for a period of 180 days postpartum. Both treatment protocols resulted in a complete oestrus induction response of 100 per cent. The interval from treatment to induced oestrus was significantly lower in the Ovsynch group (50.10 ± 1.44 h) than in the Ovsynch + progesterone (54.40 ± 0.48 h) group. In comparison to the control group, treatment group animals displayed a high intensity score for oestrus. The duration of oestrus in the Ovsynch group (26.41 ± 0.53 h) was significantly longer than the control (24.45 ± 0.46 h) group and the Ovsynch + progesterone group (24.13 ± 0.42 h). The overall conception rate for three consecutive AI in Ovsynch, Ovsynch + progesterone and control group were 66.67, 83.33 and 33.33 per cent, respectively. The calving to conception intervals were significantly (p<0.001) shorter in Ovsynch (118.33 ± 9.71 d) and Ovsynch + progesterone (106.67 ± 8.12 d) groups than the control (191.5 ± 5.36 d). It is concluded that hormonal treatment is effective in inducing postpartum oestrus and reducing the calving to conception interval in Vechur cows. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
