Chromophobe renal cell carcinoma (chRCC) has a favorable prognosis. Due to irregular nuclei and nuclear pleomorphism, chRCC has a high Fuhrman nuclear grade (FNG). The chromophobe tumor grade (CTG) is a novel three-tier grading system that has been reported to be a better prognosticator than the traditional FNG. We compared the two nuclear grading systems in terms of patients’ clinical outcomes.

Penile calciphylaxis is a rare cause of penile gangrene that presents in patients with end-stage renal disease. The rates of comorbidity and mortality of penile calciphylaxis are extremely high. Unlike other penile gangrene, such as Fournier’s gangrene, the benefit of aggressive surgical therapy is controversial. Here we present a case of penile calciphylaxis in a 43-year-old man with end-stage renal disease on hemodialysis. He received total penectomy but died due to multisystem complications 2 weeks after surgery. We review the literature on the management options and outcomes in patients with penile calciphylaxis.

Few studies have investigated the contagion effects of exposure to others' confided suicidal thoughts among adolescents. The aim of this study was to investigate whether recent real-world exposure to confided suicidal thoughts was associated with adolescent self-harm and suicidality within one month, and if so, to determine the related risk and protective factors. A total of 5,879 Taiwanese first-year senior high school students participated in this study and completed on-line questionnaires regarding their experience of exposure to confided suicidal thoughts, self-harm and suicidality, socio-demographic information, Patient Health Questionnaire 9-item, Multi-Dimensional Support Scale, Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale, and alcohol and cigarette use. Of the enrolled adolescents, 3.4% had been exposed to confided suicidal thoughts (N = 200) within one month. The most common source of exposure was friends (N = 186). After controlling for a large variety of confounders, the adolescents with recent exposure to others' suicidal thoughts were four times more likely to harm themselves within one month (OR = 3.77; 95% CI: 2.26 - 6.30). The risks of suicidal ideation and suicide plans were also markedly increased (both OR = 5.15; 95% CI: 3.48 - 7.64 and 2.78 - 9.52, respectively). The risk ratios were highest if the source of exposure was from parents, and the contagion effects were dose-dependent. Support from parents and teachers could protect the adolescents from the impact of contagion. Our results suggest a contagion effect of exposure to confided suicidal thoughts among adolescents. Abstract Background Serum anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) had been proposed as a marker of ovarian reserve. The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of endometrioma and laparoscopic cystectomy on ovarian reserve as measured by serum AMH levels. Methods A total of 1,642 patients were recruited in this retrospective analysis. Control group (group 1) included 1,323 infertility patients without endometrioma. Endometrioma group (group 2) included 141 patients with ovarian endometrioma. Previous cystectomy group (group 3) included 147 patients who underwent unilateral or bilateral laparoscopic cystectomy due to ovarian endometrioma more than 6 months before enrollment. Current cystectomy group (group 4) included 31 patients who underwent cystectomy during study period. Serum anti-müllerian hormone (AMH) levels were measured upon enrollment with all patients. For patients in group 4, AMH levels were measured before and 3 months after cystectomy. Results Mean AMH level of patients in control group was significantly higher than that of endometrioma group or previous cystectomy group in each age subgroup, while the mean serum AMH level of the endometrioma group was also significantly higher than that of the previous cystectomy group in each age subgroup. The mean AMH level was significantly lower in patients with previous bilateral cystectomy compared to that of patients with unilateral cystectomy. The mean serum AMH level was also significantly lower in patients with bilateral endometrioma compared to that of patients with unilateral endometrioma. In group 4, mean AMH level significantly decreased from 3.95 +/- 0.42 preoperation to 2.01 +/- 0.21 ng/ml at 3-month postoperation. Conclusions Both ovarian endometrioma and cystectomy are associated with a significant reduction on ovarian reserve. Bilateral endometrioma exerts a more profound negative impact on ovarian reserve than unilateral endometrioma, regardless of either conservative or surgical intervention.

Background: The aim of this study was to assess the efficacy and safety of NRICM101 in hospitalized patients with COVID-19. Research design and methods: We conducted a retrospective study from 20 April 2021 to 8 July 2021, and evaluated the safety and outcomes (mortality, hospital stay, mechanical ventilation, oxygen support, diarrhea, serum potassium) in COVID-19 patients. Propensity score matching at a 1:2 ratio was performed to reduce confounding factors. Results: A total of 201 patients were analyzed. The experimental group (n = 67) received NRICM101 and standard care, while the control group (n = 134) received standard care alone. No significant differences were observed in mortality (10.4% vs. 14.2%), intubation (13.8% vs. 11%), time to intubation (10 vs. 11 days), mechanical ventilation days (0 vs. 9 days), or oxygen support duration (6 vs. 5 days). However, the experimental group had a shorter length of hospitalization (odds ratio = 0.12, p = 0.043) and fewer mechanical ventilation days (odds ratio = 0.068, p = 0.008) in initially severe cases, along with an increased diarrhea risk (p = 0.035). Conclusion: NRICM101 did not reduce in-hospital mortality. However, it shortened the length of hospitalization and reduced mechanical ventilation days in initially severe cases.
