Abstract

Laboratory hydrate formation process simulation provides a theoretical support for determining the dynamic revolution behaviors of actual hydrate reservoirs. In view of this, based on the ITS electrical resistance tomography (ERT) module, a dedicated apparatus was developed to simulate the in-situ core-scale distribution of natural gas hydrate directly during the process of hydrate formation and dissociation in artificial sediments. Beach sand was used as porous media to simulate the formation of methane hydrate and assess the 2-D ERT evolution characteristics simultaneously. The findings were obtained. (1) The apparent average resistance values of hydrate-bearing sediment system are determined by the combination of hydrate forming rate and salt-removing effect, showing fluctuation rise behaviors during the process of hydrate formation. (2) When the hydrate forming rate is high enough, hysteresis influence of salt-removing effect on apparent average resistance value is observed. After the hydrate formation, there still exists a mass transfer process controlled by the difference of salt ion concentration. (3) Difference between original and real-time ERT distribution indicates a heterogeneous formation process of hydrate within the sediments. In conclusion, initial gas–water contact relationship and distribution is the virtual factors for hydrate heterogeneous distribution behaviors, while that of spatial difference of ion concentration caused by the salt-removing effect plays a key role in promoting local hydrate formation position change.

Abstract

The bolted flanged joint with metal C-rings is commonly applied to long-term services for several decades. It has been affirmed that the produced stress relaxation can cause the sealing load to continuously decay during the long-time service, which is unfavorable for the sealing performance. This paper presents a finite element (FE) method to investigate the stress relaxation characteristics of the bolted flanged joint with a metal C-ring. The Nonlinear Isotropic Hardening constitutive model is used to describe the rate independent plasticity of all the materials, and the Strain Hardening equation is used as the creep constitutive equation. In the FE model, the bolted flanged joint is considered as a whole, and the stress relaxations of all the components including of the gaskets, the bolts and the flanges are calculated by the unitized method. The method can be adopted to investigate the stress relaxation characteristic of the bolted flanged joint at any time, and estimate the active time when the critical sealing load has been defined. By comparison with the performed experiments, the FE method was verified. Based on the proposed FE model, some simulation results are presented and discussed, which mainly correspond with the relations of some design parameters of the metal C-ring with the stress relaxation of the bolted flanged joint. It explains how the stress relaxation characteristic is influenced by these parameters, which is helpful for the design, assemblage, and maintenance of the bolted flanged joint with long-term service requirements.

Abstract

Swine are considered as 'mixing vessels' of influenza A viruses and play an important role in the generation of novel influenza pandemics. In this study, we described that the H3N2 swine influenza (swH3N2) viruses currently circulating in pigs in Guangdong province carried six internal genes from 2009 pandemic H1N1 virus (pmd09), and their antigenicity was obviously different from that of current human H3N2 influenza viruses or recommended vaccine strains (A/Guangdong/1194/2019, A/Hong Kong/4801/2014). These swH3N2 viruses preferentially bonded to the human‐like receptors, and efficiently replicated in human, canine and swine cells. In addition, the virus replicated in turbinate and trachea of guinea pigs, and efficiently transmitted among guinea pigs, and virus shedding last for 6 days post‐infection (dpi). The virus replicated in the respiratory tract of pigs, effectively transmitted among pigs, and virus shedding last until 9 dpi. Taken together, these current swH3N2 viruses might have the zoonotic potential. Strengthening surveillance and monitoring the pathogenicity of such swH3N2 viruses are urgently needed. Abstract

Scheme design decides about 70% – 80% of the product design cost, and is critical importance to the success of product design. In this paper, a theory of fuzzy comprehensive evaluation was proposed for the selection of several options based on value engineering and fuzzy mathematics. The index system for value evaluation of the product design scheme was constructed with the function analysis method. Then based on the fuzzy control concept, the fuzzy sets including the uniform index factors, the evaluation language and so on were established, and the memberships between the factor sets and the remark sets were described with the fuzzy triangle membership functions. The fuzzy relation matrixes of the function evaluation and value evaluation were established for the products at different layers from scheme layer to goal layer, then the vectors of fuzzy evaluations were solved for defuzzification and getting the sequence of the evaluation on multiple design schemes. The fuzzy comprehensive evaluation of the project value was carried out for the 4 examples: single screw pump, double suction twin screw pump, single suction twin screw pump, and variable lead twin screw pumps. The evaluation result could give the best selection of screw pump design schemes.

Abstract

The main interface docking seal (MID seal) is one of the key components in the developing low impact docking systems for future space vehicles, and its sealing property is crucial to the spacecrafts docking in space. A seal-on-seal structure is one of the mainstream designs of the MID seal, and is generally made of rubber materials that can adapt to the complex space environment. For the MID seal of the seal-on-seal structure, it is further confirmed that the porous media theory is suitable to study the sealing property by investigating the micromorphology characteristics of seal contact faces, which based on a leakage model is proposed by this paper. In this model, both the primary seal and the secondary seal are considered as a whole, which is more consistent with the structure and the physical process of sealing face leakage. By comparison with the performed experiments, the leakage model was verified. Based on the proposed leakage model, some simulation results about the studied MID seal are presented and discussed, which mainly correspond with pressure distributions, compression levels, design parameters and operating temperatures. These analyses clearly present some intrinsic relationships implicated in the leakage model. This study is favorable for the mechanism researches, designs, assemblies, and applications of the MID seal, and other seals like that are also included.

Abstract

Abstract Background Porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2) is associated with post-weaning multi-systemic wasting syndrome (PMWS) in young weaned pigs. Immune stimulation was found to activate the replication of PCV2 and exacerbate the clinical outcome of the infection. Proper amount of interferon-α (IFN-α) is able to enhance PCV2 infection and production in Porcine kidney-15 (PK-15) cells when administered after inoculation. Methods In the present study, luciferase reporter assays, construction of mutant viruses, Analysis the replication efficiency and the response to IFN-α treatment in PK-15 cells and animal experiments were carried out to analyze the function of interferon-stimulated response element (ISRE) of PCV2 and its role during viral replication in vitro and in vivo. Results A functional viral ISRE sequence, 5′-CTGAAAACGAAAGA-3′, was identified in Rep gene promoter (Prep) of PCV2. PCV2 Prep is composed of two mini promoters, the proximal one span the sequence +1 to -106, containing an ISRE while the distal mini promoter is composed of three tandem GC box like sites locate at -85 to -194. It was demonstrated that viral ISRE is necessary for porcine IFN-α initiated luciferase expression enhancement and it plays an important role in affecting the replication efficiency of PCV2 in vivo and in vitro. Conclusions These findings provide a theoretical basis for the Phenomenon of immunostimulation is able to enhance PCV2 infection, and improve the understanding of the complicated mechanisms involved in the host and pathogen interactions of PCV2.

48. Prediction models for seal performance of a space seal considering atomic oxygen effects

Abstract

A low impact docking system with advanced capabilities has been developing for future spacecrafts, and its main interface docking seal (MIDS) is both a critical component and a research topic of interest. It is a typical design for the MIDS that adopts the elastomer seal-on-seal structure made of silicone rubbers, and the atomic oxygen (AO) in space had been found to take great effects on the sealing performance by previous experimental studies, especially for the seal leak, seal adhesion, and compression set. Exposure to AO may cause obvious changes on the sealing surface of the MIDS, and some characteristic parameters of morphology are proposed to characterize the changes in this study, including of the porosity, roughness and radius of curvature. Both the leakage model and the adhesion model of the MIDS are further developed to predict the sealing performance considering AO effects, which had been confirmed by the application experiments. The experimental data are in good agreement with the calculation data. The effects of AO on the sealing performance are simulated and analyzed by the proposed prediction models. The results are beneficial to the developments of the MIDS and other space seals.
