Abstract

Knowledge of rectal anatomy in the prostate region is critical for proper hydrogel placement prior to definitive prostate radiation treatment. The rectourethralis (RU) is a muscle independent of the rectal wall, running superior to the rectum and inferior to the prostate. It appears merged to the rectum on MRI and CT but is readily displaced with ultrasound probe and water dissection. After water dissection, gel can be placed within or inferior to the RU and anterior to the rectum. This location can give the appearance of gel placement within the rectal wall on post-placement cross sectional imaging. We explore the implications of this finding in a large series. The study was an IRB approved retrospective review of technical outcomes in prostate radiotherapy through assessment of 300 patients undergoing definitive radiation who received hydrogel spacer placement under general anesthesia. Video tracking was implemented for the last 150 cases. Principles of placement included 1) optimization of probe position to increase the distance between prostate and rectum and decrease the risk of penetration, 2) avoid injection of water or gel against resistance, 3) goal separation of 1cm at base, mid, and apex. Gel position was classified into the following groups: 1) Superior to the RU with rectal exclusion (SRU RE), 2) superior to the RU with incomplete exclusion and lateral rectal extension around gel (SRU IE), 3) Inferior to the RU without rectal wall penetration (IRU), 4) Rectal wall penetration. Separation of the rectum and prostate was measured on axial imaging as minimal separation at base, mid, and apex Clinical consequences included severe pain and delay in therapy due to non-ideal placement. Rectal toxicity was scored by patient reported outcome instrument comparable to standard rectal toxicity scales. Of patients included in this analysis (n = 300), 120 (40%) were classified as SRU RE, 106 (35.33%) as SRU IE, 74 (24.67%) as IRU. No patients had rectal wall penetration. Patients in groups 1-3 did not experience severe pain or require delay in treatment and did not develop complications during therapy based on a patient reported outcome survey. There was no statistically significant difference is separation at base, mid and apex by gel position (0.39, 0.86, and 0.79 respectively) based on one-way ANOVA. Due to the appearance of gel in the rectal wall, radiation may be delayed. We classified the variant gel positions in relation to the RU and prostate. Abstract

Seven Fusarium species complexes are treated, namely F. aywerte species complex (FASC) (two species), F. buharicum species complex (FBSC) (five species), F. burgessii species complex (FBURSC) (three species), F. camptoceras species complex (FCAMSC) (three species), F. chlamydosporum species complex (FCSC) (eight species), F. citricola species complex (FCCSC) (five species) and the F. concolor species complex (FCOSC) (four species). New species include Fusicolla elongata from soil (Zimbabwe), and Neocosmospora geoasparagicola from soil associated with Asparagus officinalis (Netherlands). New combinations include Neocosmospora akasia, N. awan, N. drepaniformis, N. duplosperma, N. geoasparagicola, N. mekan, N. papillata, N. variasi and N. warna. Newly validated taxa include Longinectria gen. nov., L. lagenoides, L. verticilliforme, Fusicolla gigas and Fusicolla guangxiensis. Furthermore, Fusarium rosicola is reduced to synonymy under N. brevis. Finally, the genome assemblies of Fusicolla betae (CBS 175.32), Microcera coccophila (CBS 310.34), Rectifusarium robinianum (CBS 430.91), Rugonectria rugulosa (CBS 126565), and Thelonectria blattea (CBS 952.68) are also announced here.

Abstract

Recent publications have argued that there are potentially serious consequences for researchers in recognising distinct genera in the terminal fusarioid clade of the family Nectriaceae. Thus, an alternate hypothesis, namely a very broad concept of the genus Fusarium was proposed. In doing so, however, a significant body of data that supports distinct genera in Nectriaceae based on morphology, biology, and phylogeny is disregarded. A DNA phylogeny based on 19 orthologous protein-coding genes was presented to support a very broad concept of Fusarium at the F1 node in Nectriaceae. Here, we demonstrate that re-analyses of this dataset show that all 19 genes support the F3 node that represents Fusarium sensu stricto as defined by F. sambucinum (sexual morph synonym Gibberella pulicaris). The backbone of the phylogeny is resolved by the concatenated alignment, but only six of the 19 genes fully support the F1 node, representing the broad circumscription of Fusarium. Furthermore, a re-analysis of the concatenated dataset revealed alternate topologies in different phylogenetic algorithms, highlighting the deep divergence and unresolved placement of various Nectriaceae lineages proposed as members of Fusarium. Species of Fusarium s. str. are characterised by Gibberella sexual morphs, asexual morphs with thin- or thick-walled macroconidia that have variously shaped apical and basal cells, and trichothecene mycotoxin production, which separates them from other fusarioid genera. Here we show that the Wollenweber concept of Fusarium presently accounts for 20 segregate genera with clear-cut synapomorphic traits, and that fusarioid macroconidia represent a character that has been gained or lost multiple times throughout Nectriaceae. Thus, the very broad circumscription of Fusarium is blurry and without apparent synapomorphies, and does not include all genera with fusarium-like macroconidia, which are spread throughout Nectriaceae (e.g., Cosmosporella, Macroconia, Microcera). Abstract

Dy doped [alpha]-SiAlON ceramics prepared by the hot-pressing method has shown a high optical transmittance value in the infrared region and first principles calculation has disclosed the transparency mechanism. The valence shell of doped Dy atoms has interacted strongly with the doping states of [alpha]-SiAlON, which has resulted in the increase in the optical gap, suppressing the photoabsorption and leading to good transparency property.

Abstract

Zasmidium angulare, a novel species of Mycosphaerellaceae, and several novel taxa that reside in Dissoconiaceae, were identified from a collection of apples and Cucurbita maxima (cv. Blue Hubbard) from China and the USA that exhibited sooty blotch and flyspeck (SBFS) signs on their host substrata. Morphology on fruit surfaces and in culture, and phylogenetic analyses of the nuclear ribosomal DNAs 28S and internal transcribed spacer regions, as well as partial translation elongation factor 1-alpha gene sequences in some cases, were used to delineate seven previously unidentified species and three known species. Pseudoveronaea was established as a new genus of Dissoconiaceae, represented by two species, P. ellipsoidea and P. obclavata. Although Pseudoveronaea was morphologically similar to Veronaea, these fungi clustered with Dissoconiaceae (Capnodiales) rather than Chaetothyriales (Herpotrichiellaceae). Ramichloridium mali comb. nov., and three novel species, R. cucurbitae, R. luteum and R. punctatum were closely related with R. apiculatum, which together formed a distinct subclade in Dissoconiaceae. Species of Dissoconium s.lat. clustered in two well-supported clades supported by distinct morphological and cultural features. Subsequently Uwebraunia, a former synonym of Dissoconium, was resurrected for the one clade, with new combinations proposed for U. australiensis, U. commune, U. dekkeri and U. musae. Furthermore, we also reported that D. aciculare, Dissoconium sp., U. commune and U. dekkeri were associated with SBFS on apples.
