An attempt is made to combine the best features of two materials by forming a heterojunction consisting of a thin film of polycrystalline n-type TiO/sub 2/ deposited on n-type polycrystalline Fe/sub 2/O/sub 3/. Evidence is presented that, under illumination, holes generated in the Fe/sub 2/O/sub 3/ participate in the water decomposition reaction. That is, incident light (2.2
